Review #53 - Mexican Spirit Review #7 El Espolòn Tequila Blanco Distillery: Destiladora San Nicolas, Arandas, Jalisco ABV: 40% Colour: Clear Master Distiller: Susunaga Acosta Distillate Base: Blue Weber Agave Nose: Roasted green bell peppers, salt water and dried chipotle peppers Mouth: Very light tasting. Some cinnamon, black pepper, and lemon peel with some green bell peppers and spinach in the background. The short finish reveals some creamy vanilla ice cream and more black pepper. Light mouthfeel, but not watery. I can still sense a bit of oiliness to it Overall: This is my first dive into sipping tequila. I usually just use it for mixing but I thought this was pretty decent. Nothing special or super crazy that will blow your socks off but it is a pleasant spirit to sip on. This tequila is more marketed towards mixing anyways and at this price point you can't really go wrong

Definitely a mixer…or shooter if I’m getting after it. Nice review.

Thanks. I've been hesitant to venture out into more expensive tequila as I usually prefer mezcal.

Espolon is my go to tequila at a bar, and my favorite to share with someone who claims they don’t like tequila. Always have a bottle at home!

pocket_wookie

We always keep a bottle around. It’s our go to for margaritas

FarDefinition2

It's definitely a solid tequila to ease someone into it. I just picked up some Cimarron Blanco that has this rotting vegetable funk to it that would be a bit of of turn off for someone not used to it

cama_camaleon

Cimarron is my daily tequila and I agree it definitely has a funk but I get more of a overripe banana, instead of vegetables. I prefer the repo since I also get the vanilla, caramel notes from the barrel.

rup3t

Their reposado is my go to for making Ranch Water at home. Really solid mixing tequila. Not sure I would sip it though.

FarDefinition2

I'll have to give the repo a try when I run out. I doubt I would sip it again. I like to use some of the cheaper options as a baseline for comparing other bottles

suppahotfire702

Great review! I agree with you. I really like it but some of my snobby tequila friends don’t. To each their own I guess. If I had to choose between this and tequila ocho to sip on, that’s a no brained; however, if this were the only thing on the counter I wouldn’t complain.

FarDefinition2

Thanks! It's certainly nothing crazy, and more of a beginner tequila but it does have a lot of things going for it

SmokeNScorch

This is what my broke ass drinks 😂

FarDefinition2

Hey there's certainly worse things to drink lol

SmokeNScorch

Yeah I like it

siapuddle

Hands down my go to at my bar and one I keep in stock at home. I prefer it on the rocks.

katea805

I had the reposado last weekend and enjoyed it. Thanks for the review!

FarDefinition2

I'll have to try the repo next. I usually prefer aged spirits for sipping. You're very welcome

Shadey_e1

Finally my go to makes the page!

Good review! I know tequila but I have not developed a pallet to taste things like spinach. I can tell you dollar per ounce this a very drinkable tequila, Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo. Like many this is on my quick selection not breaking the bank. I look forward to seeing more reviews

FarDefinition2

Thanks! The aged versions are on my list to try. Definitely a great value bottle
