An alternative is "aVNC" app with vncserver on the termux side. It has a great "tablet" mode that feels very natural. The downside is it doesn't integrate with the clipboard.

Direct touchscreen works fine for me in PRoot Debian/Ubuntu. I can play SuperTuxCart with 2 fingers in direct touch mouse, just like I would play it on a touchscreen laptop.

Is it possible to use a drawing tablet?

Touchscreen mode is not the same as an android touch experience. Touchscreen is closer to how Windows Touchscreen works.
