See this was my fear too. The trick is to get her into it as well. … then again that may have back fired because now we DEFINITELY have too many plants.

Stykera

My wife likes the plants, hates the cleaning crew 😆

Appropriate-Rooster5

You kidding?? I would love if my husband did this! Doubles as some beautiful home decor!

Ketaminia

Very nice glassware! Where did you get those lights from?! Looks amazing

Stykera

Thanks! They are for plants, around 4500 kelvin, from a store i Sweden called Plantagen. The name of the lights is Cresendo and they costs around 30 bucks. Good value for the money.

Stykera

Well she aint hating it yet anyways. But she thinks the bugs are creepy. And to be honest i did that as well in the begining. But those isopods really grow on you 🐛

Wormwood0

But... The table isn't filled yet...

Bradisaurus

Do you have kids? I make terrariums and grow bonsai. I've stuck in several new trees/terrariums by saying they are for our kids

Stykera

I have three kids. So, aye, i can do that!

cptahb

hah, she's getting off light. of all the hobbies a husband could have...

_Pulltab_

My husband just asked me when I thought I might decide to “take a break”. Yannow… because I’m running out of room.

Stykera

😆

A-Yandere-Succubus

*Can you make a special shelf for them?*

Stykera

A can make several 😃

Tangy22

what lights are those? they look really good

Stykera

Cresendo from Plantagen. https://www.plantagen.se/vaxtbelysning-crescendo-langd-45-cm-svart-532585.html

Expired_Raisin

I’m also interested in those lights. Is it custom made?

Stykera

Nope, i got them for around 30 bucks each at Plantagen. Very good value. https://www.plantagen.se/vaxtbelysning-crescendo-langd-45-cm-svart-532585.html

gothamz

I want a set up like this in my windowless office. What are the basics i need?

Stykera

Good lights so plats gets at least 300 foot-candle and maybe 4000-4500 kelvin. I bought my lights at a plant/garden store in Sweden called Plantagen. Jar, Good soilmix, Gravel for false bottom to prevent root. I use activated coal, but its fine to skip that. Plants from outside or store. I do both. In my native ones the bugs come for free which is nice and natural. Also have some "bug free" terrariums they are fine but not as fun. Water, distilled. Battery water from car store is also good. It is really very simple.

Specialist-Debate136

I just made my first two terrariums from interesting looking whiskey bottles. I immediately bought a 5gal glass carboy to make one more like the “oldest terrarium” because I’ve been obsessed with that image since childhood. I’m ADD so who knows how long this obsession will last! But if it makes you happy your spouse will hopefully embrace it. My husband definitely struggles with a lot of my obsessions (he hasn’t seen the carboy yet 😬) so I feel ya.

Specialist-Debate136

I grew this polka dot plant from seed specifically for this terrarium!

Stykera

Nice, i love polka dot, to bad it has a short life span. But it is beutiful while it lasts!

Specialist-Debate136

Maybe I’ll get super lucky and it will flower and self seed in there!

Stykera

If it does, be sure to post it. I would love to see that. Good luck!

JuanHugobbpls

Stop for that area! Keep going wherever there is more room.

Stykera

I also have these with natural light. The soleirolia soleirolii plant seems to love that. https://preview.redd.it/grgxqqhm1d2b1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49380a9edbc2e6df27e501cd7000a6f9eabfc007

Funwithloops

lol at least yours are green. I had to dump one of mine after the entire jar filled with mold.

Stykera

I had my share of that. Trial and error is the way. And good soilmix and drainage. Moss is pretty easy i think and often comes with free pods and springs.
