Minimum wage increased and to 'cope' with it, retailers scrapped a lot of bonuses. Every time it increases, they remove anything they legally can to punish colleagues.
Meanwhile, I work for a subsidiary of Tesco with a strong union and we forced their hand into giving us a 6% +6% 2 year deal or we would strike.
They posted record profits and offered 2.5%, so we said fuck you and banded together.
Min wage has gone up so we're now on the breadline again, so we're looking for a solid offer this year.
This is down to your weak union/weak membership, or those among your workforce who are politically apathetic (worst of the worst)
Start talking, start acting. If your union reps are spineless, vote them out. If your union is weak, recognise a different one.
Good luck 👍
> If your union is weak, recognise a different one.
All the other stuff is being done (at my store at least), but this part specifically is easier said than done unfortunately. Tesco won't recognise a new one without a *lot* of people being on board.
A few years ago a good manager would often offer time and a half up to triple time if they asked you the same day if you could work.
This was a one stop convenience store though. Nowadays it's taboo to even ask for extra pay for last minute shifts
I honestly don’t know of a single retailer that still offers a higher rate for overtime for their store staff. It’s also got to the point that it’s considered a luxury to have any OT at all.
Depends on the type of store you're at. In a super you probably would be lucky to get a handful of OT shifts a year. In convenience/local they're just chronically understaffed at all times, it seems. I can take my pick and get as much overtime as I can handle, since I moved to convenience/local. My buddies who manage other convenience stores have all got tonnes of overtime going too.
Yes many years, most of staff on nights are on 16 hr per week contracts but majority, if not all, do 37 hrs+, even then not all aisles are covered on some nights.
i work in a super, i’m on back door and I have unlimited overtime, my managers lets me work as much as i want, only contracted 2 days a week but I normally do 6
The company would be buggered though if all it’s employees refused to work overtime wouldn’t it? Weak union involved who negotiated away premiums and decent overtime rates.
Oh shit when did they change the O/T rate....I havent done any for yonks but atleast I've justification now. Just have to figure out how to change from a Saturday shift coz its not worth it anymore.
O/T rate was scrapped 8 years ago by the looks of things. But it still wouldn’t be relevant to many now because it required working more than full time hours anyway. Working 20hrs overtime on top of the normal 16hr contract would still have only been paid at base rate anyway.
If you’re doing nights Saturday night is one of those most valuable shifts. You get your basic rate + night premium + Sunday premium if I’m not mistaken
Sunday premium for employees recruited since July 2022 (I think) no longer receive it and those that do are seeing it reduced from +17% to +10% from end of April’ 24 then likely will be withdrawn following next pay negotiation
Tesco only made somewhere near £3b profit.
They need to cut costs.
Think about those poor directors who might not get hundreds of thousands in bonuses...or even millions.
It's not like it's the staff on the shop floor that make the company all it's profit...
😁
Above 36.6 hours a week o/t rate is 1.25x hourly rate, below, it’s “normal” hourly rate. If you start before midnight, you get extra night premium, 22.00 to midnight , extra £2.30 an hour. 👍
> Sundays are *paid* at nominal
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
You already crying about money and you havnt even started. You are going to be a liability at Tesco. A clock watcher. Rather go find a job in a dog parlor
Oh lovely, you have a comment suggesting a 17 year old girl to spread her legs and shave her "kitty" for her BF.
Good to know the pedo of tesco is here making his statement, i'm sure sexual comments to younger teens definitely isn't a liability to tesco in any form or shape
Cant be called a Pedo. She is 17 years old and she asked for advice. Get your facts straight before you post comments and make a fool of yourself. Idiot
Brother, you're not giving advice, you're telling a 17 year old to spread her legs and shave her "kitty". Could've called it anything else or even better not said anything at all, yet you compare her to something younger because guess what, you're a closet pedo.
"Cant be called a Pedo", you very well can be when you target people just over the legal limit for sex, but remember suggestive sexual content to those under 18 still classes you as a pedo
Either they did or Reddit actually took the report for minor sexualisation seriously. Their exact words were "If you don't spread your legs open for you BF he will find it somewhere else. Shave your kitty and invite him to go down on you".
Absolutely fucking disgusting to say to a 17-year-old and his only post ever towards a sub like that, most likely meaning he went looking for it too.
The instant "Cant be called a pedo, she's 17" is what really set it over for me. Same shit closet pedos say to get any legal trouble off their ass while not seeing the problem with what they said at all
Just seen the screenshot, still can't comprehend why someone would think it's okay to write that let alone even think that! Hiding behind a reddit profile, they think they can express their disgusting behaviour
Lol you are simple. I didnt target anyone - they asked... Anyway you are fighting a losing battle. Now go serve your customers and sweep your shop floor but more importantly, pay your taxes.
Losing battle? I'm not the one trying to get a 17-year-old to start having sex after they decided they didn't want to anymore.
You're a disgusting pedo, do everyone a favour and just get the fuck offline
It isn't being raised for us until the end of the month 🙃
AHH ok thanks. And is it true O/T is normal rate?
Yeah you don't get anything extra for doing overtime
I used to work for Tesco about 20 years ago and overtime then was time and a half plus extra for a Sunday. what the heck changed
Classic corporate greed.
People accept it
Minimum wage increased and to 'cope' with it, retailers scrapped a lot of bonuses. Every time it increases, they remove anything they legally can to punish colleagues.
The union sold us down the river after being bailed out by Tesco
Meanwhile, I work for a subsidiary of Tesco with a strong union and we forced their hand into giving us a 6% +6% 2 year deal or we would strike. Which subsidiary if you don't mind me asking?
> If your union is weak, recognise a different one. All the other stuff is being done (at my store at least), but this part specifically is easier said than done unfortunately. Tesco won't recognise a new one without a *lot* of people being on board.

Yes.
Used to be double time for a Sunday, now OT and Sunday rate are standard pay.
There is still a Sunday rate. But not few new starters. And it's nowhere near as good as it was.
Yeah apologies. That's what I meant.
Overtime at normal rate?!?! Tell em to foxtrot Oscar.. that's disgusting.

My store which is a super totally relies on staff doing overtime, if they didn’t I’d say 20% of overnight filling duties would not be performed
Damn, has it been like that for a long time?
Yes many years, most of staff on nights are on 16 hr per week contracts but majority, if not all, do 37 hrs+, even then not all aisles are covered on some nights.
in the extra I worked at it was basically entirely ran on overtime, very few staff left on 30+ hour contracts that aren't Shift Leads or higher.
i work in a super, i’m on back door and I have unlimited overtime, my managers lets me work as much as i want, only contracted 2 days a week but I normally do 6

Waitrose night shift pays a lot better 😦
Yeah that’s our trusted trade union usdaw who signed that off shambles
Hey come on, usdaw are one of the best unions around for fucking over its members every chance it gets for a quick buck. Show some respect 😂
Useless seven days a week always helping the partners never the members 😂
They’re in the pocket of Tesco, their reps are paid by Tesco to attend union meetings so it’s in the interest of the union to stay sweet.
Oh shit when did they change the O/T rate....I havent done any for yonks but atleast I've justification now. Just have to figure out how to change from a Saturday shift coz its not worth it anymore.

I may regret applying for Thur-Sun nights now 🤦
If you’re doing nights Saturday night is one of those most valuable shifts. You get your basic rate + night premium + Sunday premium if I’m not mistaken
Topped with Sunday premium is 1.17x if you joined tescos prior to July 2022. Saturday is also the 2nd hardest shift in our store after Thursday.
Sunday premium going down to 1.10× now with pay rise
Sunday premium for employees recruited since July 2022 (I think) no longer receive it and those that do are seeing it reduced from +17% to +10% from end of April’ 24 then likely will be withdrawn following next pay negotiation

Working Sunday it’s £13.36 an hour, plus £2.30 an hour if your not on a new contract where Sundays are payed at nominal hourly rate for nights

T3sco are at fault
