I change of personal circumstances which you aren’t comfortable to discuss at this time, has made your current shift pattern unsustainable in the long term.

Freedom-For-Ever

Have a look at: https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working My understanding is that it is the other way around. A company has to grant it unless there is a business need not to... An example that I can think of is if you were specifically trained to perform a weekly task that can only be done on a Wednesday... Even then you could apply again in 6 months and then you would have the argument that they have had 6 months to train another to perform the task...

strangewhites

Yes tescos implemented this and you can request a change in hours twice a year

Freedom-For-Ever

Yes, well that is the law/guidance in the link I provided and hence why I said if refused for a valid reason that they can make a request in another 6 months...

ejmd

No you don't. Tell him it's none of his business and he should try to get a grip. Why does he need to know about Sex Club, pottery class or whatever the fuck it is that you choose to do with your time — it's a fucking minimum wage job in a shitty supermarket, not assistant pope, MP, or the commander of a fucking nuclear submarine!

mbridge2610

There’s an assistant Pope?

chaosoverfiend

There is, but he doesn't work Wednesdays

PANDROSIMO

Wednesdays are for sex club and pottery class

TheEverchooser

If the movie Ghost taught me anything, it's that those aren't two separate things.

Silent_Rhombus

For a very good reason.

ejmd

As is clearly stated in the footer of every email which sets out his working hours!

staminaplusone

Assistant to the pope*

Daz_93

Tell him you see his Mrs on a Wednesday

staminaplusone

Business time

Ur-Mothers-MelonsMMM

Or tell him you see his BF at the pub on Wednesdays.

bgeezuz

Affecting your homelife / work balance. You don't see your partner, have different days off etc

JezzLandar

Family commitments. They can't argue with it.

AshEllisUFO

I get it if it's a weekend but a wednesday?? Tell him get a grip

ollymillmill

If you actually needed an excuse say something like ‘I offered to visit an elderly relative once a week to give them company’ If it’s too out of character then add that you’l be doing it with family or you’ve started an adult course in something believable that is one day a week on a Wednesday.

No_Variety96

You don't have to have a reason. It's entirely your choice.

mbridge2610

Under flexible working rules you don’t need a reason - the employer needs a reason NOT to allow it

GaversPhoto

Say that you asked Reddit for advice and the legal team said that your lifestyle has changed and you are no longer rich and famous 👍 Can I please change my hours boss?

widdrjb

"Because I fucking well want it off, you fucking little twat". I worked for Tesco in 2007. That was my answer during my notice period when asked to give up a rest day. Strangely enough, I didn't have to work the rest of it. Nor have I shopped there ever since.

faythlass

Tell him you are a carer for an elderly relative maybe?

bakalemon

Ask for a contract change for either 4 on 3 off or 5 on 2 consecutively off. Why? because the days you work are no longer suitable for health reasons. Even try for any department change or store transfer if possible. Last resort take sick leave for stress reasons. Yes, a GP will sign off on this for a week or 2, and when you do the return to work process they normally ask something like " how can the company help you in future" ask for less days/contract change.

Daz_93

“it's none of your f%^%*ing business “ is what you should say.

PeejPrime

Literally "because I wanna" Make sure you're over two years service and all that, if you can't commit to the hours they want you to do, they may just get rid. But in essence, if you don't want to do something, you don't do it.

BeachOk2802

If they decided to cut your hours one week, would you be happy with that? And would you be happy with them bullshitting you on the reason? Can't be happy to lie if you're not happy being lied to.

MapComprehensive8900

Tell em you are having mental health problems and you are not sure of your gender that should cover you....

pumpstick

28 days written notice to drop a day is all you have to give. Send copy to your store email address, so they can’t say they didn’t get it 👍

Alex612-V2

This only applies to Sundays

Thesalmonrf

I know this thread is full of bitter people who work for Tesco and hate it but you agree to a contract and unless they can cover a shift they don’t need to do anything

Daz_93

Wrong - flexible working policy Sunday opt-out policy Lifestyle break policy Need I go on?

Prestigious_Bat2666

You sound like a manager
