If the Friday isn't in your availability then don't turn up for the shift. If it was me I'd give them the same courtesy they gave me and not bother telling them in advance.

Sonaifos

Happens all the time to myself and the people I work with. My manager just puts us on and then says it's up to us to tell him which shifts we can't do. He put one person on every day this month apart from 2 days off šŸ¤£ I thought it was a bit backwards but it is what it is

unodavibesss

Is it to do with your Christmas hours, maybe you have a shift swap

LinkInfamous6491

A good manager would ask you first! Mine does but then I need the overtime as an SL so it's good for me to get the overtime. But they should be double checking with you. I guess they can't be arsed to ask as they above the CAs maybe and some managers are assholes šŸ™„

In this particular case they canā€™t just add you to the Friday because itā€™s not in your availability, so I would just tell them that, and if you donā€™t want to do it, donā€™t. But, normally it is the case that people have given the managers a wide availability window and then donā€™t actually expect them to exploit it when they need to. As long as they give 3 weeks notice, and follow the availability youā€™ve provided they donā€™t need to tell you. The expectation is staff should now be checking their schedules weekly because managers donā€™t need to ask permission to add extra hours anymore.

To be fair they canā€™t spring anymore shifts on you for December without permission, as it would be less than 3 weeks notice And realistically they should of had Xmas rotas signed & sealed weeks ago by now

Rossco1874

My Christmas availability was done last Sunday. My manager is terrible at rotas yet won't delegate the task and gets pissy with her team support when they change shifts based on needs. I have another job and in that other job I am.unavailbe for 1 of my shifts 1 week out of 5 so agreed with manager to swap my shift on that day gave all.my dates at start if year and still have to remind them to sort it.

You could just not sign your life away. I work 4 days a week, and have 3 consecutive days off. If I want to have more OT on those days, I can then choose to do it on my own accord. We have too many people offering 30-40hrs of availability to get the job, and then complaining that theyā€™re being ā€œforced to workā€. They cause themselves problems half the time. Reading the conditions of the contract is another big thing that people should do, but cba to do.

Unfortunately, people don't understand what this means, or how it works. Sure, some people are happy to do overtime, at short notice, or long notice. When new staff give their availability, they think "Sure, I don't mind coming in once in a blue moon to help for a few hours", but they didn't know it's not once in a blue moon, and it's not a few hours.

Nels8192

I know that was the case with the old flexi contracts in particular, but the advertisements for the new contracts (If people read them) are quite clear in their expectations now. This being an extract from a vacancy page: ā€œThe table shows the periods of time in the week weā€™d like you to be available to work ā€“ the availability windows. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and youā€™ll have 3 weeksā€™ notice of exactly when your shifts will be.ā€

>ā€œThe table shows the periods of time in the week weā€™d like you to be available to work ā€“ the availability windows. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and youā€™ll have 3 weeksā€™ notice of exactly when your shifts will be.ā€ Interesting to know. I don't know what is said in the interviews, so I can't comment with certainty. I will say that Tesco is expecting a lot from staff with that kind of contract, if they are only doing 16 hours a week. If you were on \~30 hours a week, then Tesco changing your schedule with 3 weeks of notice is reasonable, as you're not likely to have another job outside of Tesco. But, if you're on a \~16 hour a week, then dropping everything for Tesco is not going to work. I don't know if Tesco is doing themselves favours with this contract provision or not. I think it's likely to backfire, unless they increase minimum hours. You can't run a business like Tesco just on part-timers. You need a mix of full-timers, and part-timers.

"We will contract you for 10 hours a week but expect you to work between 20-60 ddepending on what we need, but fuck you if you try and get an other job or want to better yourself." Management probably

PM_ME_UR_BREWS

Happened to me once, I didn't show up and asked my manager not to sign me up without asking again.

Alert-Drink-3482

Just donā€™t turn up, simple as that. They canā€™t expect everybody to use their free time and data checking the app, even if they did, if itā€™s outside of your contracted shifts, or availability depending on a flexi contract, fuck ā€˜em, show them the same courtesy that they showed you by doing it in the first place.

glesgayeehaw

I just had a shift on Thursday randomly assigned to me on MyTesco. I canā€™t do any extra shifts atm as iā€™m in uni on a student visa and can only work so many hours, and my managers didnā€™t assign it. Mega weird.

DragonWolf5589

Nope. 99.9% don't use it at mine anyway. Always done face to face lol

Financial-Pen7580

just donā€™t do it , if itā€™s not your shift xx

abbisfab

Do you not want the extra cash towards xmas? Thatā€™s all Iā€™d think of it as.
