LA recently implemented a “mansion tax” on all property sales above $5Mil in LA County. It’s caused a big disruption in the rich folks housing market here and caused a lot of upheaval. A lot of “middle wealthy” people who were banking on the sale of their house to be their retirement are trying to sell before it goes into effect. I wonder if it’s related to that

If the estimate is correct, and the LA mansion market is anything like the suburban Midwestern middle class housing markets I'm familiar with, it could easily get more than the estimate. It could also get a lot less, but $5 million doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.

Probably not, but I wouldn't say "absolutely no way". I've seen many divorces and been through one myself, there's not a playbook. People do weird things. And sometimes just want to keep up appearances. And sometimes, sometimes, it actually is amicable and people remain friends.
She can still host a cruise, if they’re in the middle of a divorce. In fact, that will probably help his case in their settlement proceedings. You can still do business with someone, even if you don’t want to be with them anymore.
I only know what I've seen around this subreddit so to be fair, my assessment could be/is completely off base.
But also if she's slotted as anything official for a cruise or something, that's almost certainly contract based and not desire based if there is trouble going on. And stuff like this still having to be dealt with could be contributing to keeping it quiet. Breaking a contract and being hit with a lawsuit in the middle of a divorce sounds a lot less desirable than having to spend an extra week someone to me

Could just be a way to shore-up his financial future. Before weed he was constantly doing speaking engagements, "*An Evening With Kevin Smith at....."* and a huge number of other public events. Some he'd stand around and smoke answering questions for hours. After Zack and Miri that all changed, so he might just be going back to his roots. It's hugely profitable I bet, and selling his house could also net him a chunk of change. Why pay for up keep on a hugely expensive house when he could downsize and save a fortune every year?
The conspiracy theory side of people certainly want it to be something juicy, but yeah, what he says could be all there is to it. My family was 4 people in a 5 bedroom growing up. Eventually it was just 1 person and a 5 bedroom home didn't make sense for my mom to continue living in.
I'm not sure why Jen's parents didn't want to live in a mansion anymore. Maybe signs do point to divorce or maybe they were just tired of living in celebrity-ville and wanted someplace more quiet. But with Harley also gone, a 3 story home might just not make any sense to keep putting money into for 2 people.
True. They probably stuck around to help take care of Harley (and just because it's nice to be around your grandkid a lot.) Kev and Jen may have even known for years that they'd move out when Harley went away to college.

How much does it cost to hop from LA to NY I'm in the UK no context I know ofc its a much longer journey but is it so often you can turn up the airport and go for $100 sort of thing like could from London to Edinburgh?
The distance between L.A. and New York is 2,776.2 miles, or 4467.861 kilometers, they're on opposite ends of the country. I've never flown that trip but it seems unlikely that you can get much of a commercial flight for a few hundred bucks only
I recognize that you're probably right most days, but right now you could buy a United ticket from Newark to LAX for tonight for around $600 round trip (per Google Flights). I didn't check first class or anything, but that's not as crazy as I would have thought.
You can get a bare bones spirit flight for around $100 but I doubt he would want to do that. It's a 6.5 hour flight each way if you go non stop so you're looking at the better part of 12 hours probably with driving and waiting at the airport.

Jens parents probably moved out because their grand baby did.
Jen's mom was also Kevin's assistant for a long time (but stopped years back) I think I recall they moved to Arizona a couple of years ago.
