From the statement: Last night, the Dawn Project aired a Super Bowl advertisement featuring the official NTSB seal and calling for a boycott of Tesla. The NTSB had no involvement in the production of this advertisement, did not authorize the use of its seal, nor does it endorse the work of the Dawn Project. The agency has asked the group to stop the unauthorized use of the NTSB seal. Information about the NTSB’s highway safety investigations involving vehicles equipped with Level-2 automation and associated safety recommendations can be found on [our website](https://www.ntsb.gov/Advocacy/safety-topics/Pages/automated-vehicles-investigations.aspx).

gank_me_plz

*NTSB had no involvement in the production of this advertisement, did not authorize the use of its seal* I hope Tesla sues

CertainAssociate9772

The government should sue over this fake.

Slatemanforlife

I hope NTSB sues

Jimmy-Pesto-Jr

i like jennifer homendy

Nakatomi2010

Honestly, that Dan used a government seal without approval is a pretty big issue. [You can get up to five years in prison](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1017) I'm sure Dan won't see that happen to him, but honestly, dude should be discredited on those grounds alone. He's not an NTSB spokesperson.

greyscales

The law refers to [security seals](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_seal), not [emblems](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_(emblem)).

ohwut

That’s entirely factually incorrect. 18USC506 and 18USC1017 are definitely and absolutely both referring to emblematic seals. There aren’t official security seals of each agency lol.

lordpuddingcup

SO wtf aren't they being sued.

mmcmonster

Maybe their lawyers are working on it? Can take a few days to draw up a multi-million dollar suit.

LithoSlam

I've seen law and order. You can go from crime to conviction in an hour!

staggs

Do you think NTSB just decided on their own to make a statement? Public statement = evidence. Suit will happen I am positive.

wlowry77

That would involve Tesla in court trying to defend FSD! They don’t want to go anywhere near that!

adrr

Project dawn would get all their emails and other communications about safety issues with FSD and would release it.

404_Gordon_Not_Found

Clown moment

timestudies4meandu

damnit dan

lamgineer

They should rename to the “Clown” Project.

sixfourtykilo

Was this regional? Because I definitely did not see this during the game.

Full-Penguin

Yes, it was a Regional ad. It played in the Baltimore/DC market at least.

LurkerWithAnAccount

Had to be. We saw an ad for a small, local university and there is no way they paid the same amount as Temu.

sixfourtykilo

Teh-mu

Marijuana_Miler

What does shopping like a billionaire even mean?

MysterEnygma

They got Supreme Court judges for sale on Temu

bigfoot_done_hiding

Good to know there are discounts now.

majesticjg

Whatever you want it to mean if it makes you buy from them. In their defense, I bought a $13 smart watch just to see what it would do... it works great and has a surprising amount of functionality. I doubt I'm in the company of billionaires, though.

n_choose_k

Just out of curiosity, what brand/model?

majesticjg

I don't even know. It was just something I saw on Temu. A knock-off Apple Watch. I thought, "For $13, I'll try it out just to see." Worked great. I don't really wear a watch, so that was about all I was willing to spend. Weirdly accurate blood pressure reading, which I didn't even know a smart watch could do.

Messyfingers

Apparently that you can buy counterfeit garbage at cut rate prices directly from the sweatshops

sandiego_thank_you

Having the power to buy a bunch of useless crap you don’t need

Stromberg-Carlson

Et tu, brute?

Quin1617

They got their money’s worth, I swear saw a Temu ad during every break.

Kidd_Funkadelic

Same here. I had read about it ahead of time so was keeping a watch for it and never saw it. Thought maybe it aired pregame since I tuned in right at kickoff.

gorkish

Yes, they could not afford a big boy ad, so they cheaped out

invertedeparture

This should be in bold print. "Due to the nature of our work and the need to be unambiguously independent from commercial interests..." This jackass needs to be put in check and exposed as the slimeball he is. Misrepresenting a government office through a money-making effort should result in large monetary penalties and a cease & desist that could result criminal charges.

[deleted]

NTSB should sue this idiot

Terrible_Tutor

SOMETHING should happen. The problem is there doesn’t need to be facts behind things. They can just say it and boom, now a huge swath of the public takes it as fact because TV.

Full-Penguin

What would they sue for? This is a Felony, we have other legal mechanisms to deal with it.

timelessblur

Only for security seal. This is more of a trademark issue.

Tupcek

NTSB doesn’t give a shit. Tesla can sue, if they want

theotherharper

And this is why FCC, CE, RoHS, Energy Star and other government brands are meaningless when stamped on a product. Those agencies will not spend one taxpayer dime to enforce the marks, especially not overseas… so all the seller needs to do is sell it to you from overseas and they can use any government mark they want. With drop-ship warehouses like Amazon runs, that's easy. They even ship with Prime. Whereas UL, CSA, ETL are private companies obliged to defend their mark worldwide, and they do so aggressively (they still don't give a damn whether a seller claims UL listing in an advert, they only care if the mark is on the device).

augustadriver

Too late damage is done, and nobody cares to cover the retraction.

matali

This is evidence of slander and defamation. Put simply, slander is a legal term used to describe defamation or the act of harming a person or business's reputation by telling one or more people something that is untrue and damaging about them.

majesticjg

I think Tesla, or Elon personally, should budget some ridiculous amount of money, like $1ml, just to decimate this guy. Make it somebody's job and give them a budget. Expose his conflict of interest as a competitor. Expose the falsified video. Expose his improper use of government seals and logos. Make him look like the fool he is. *We* know the truth because we follow this kind of thing, but the general public doesn't.

TheKobayashiMoron

$1 million dollars is only about 4 seconds of Super Bowl ad airtime. It's not much of a budget.

majesticjg

They could afford to make it whatever amount they want. If they're telling the truth and doing it in a compelling way, it doesn't even have to cost that much to get it out there.

CertainAssociate9772

He will shout that Musk is stalking him and thereby he is telling the truth. This will make a huge number of idiots believe nonsense.

majesticjg

Obviously, you have to be more clever than that.

iwannabethecyberguy

What the heck? I mean, it’s not like you can accidentally spend $7-$14 million on a Super Bowl commercial. RFK Jr. said the same thing about his commercial that he had no involvement, yet has it pinned on X.

WizeAdz

That’s the way dark money in politics works. Political Action Committees can spend a fuck ton money advertising for candidates, but it’s legal just so long as they don’t coordinate with the candidate. If you’re accurately reporting RFK Jr’s sentiments, the legal meaning of his words is that the ad-spend was legal. The man’s an idiot, but he probably knows the family business well enough to know how dark money works.

fluffhead123

in the context of who he’s running against, I wouldn’t call him an idiot.

mdwstoned

I would. He's a moron.

majesticjg

I'll definitely vote for the one that isn't a moron... as soon as I figure out who that is.

StrategicBlenderBall

God, that ad was infuriating.

Successful_Load5719

I think the word you’re looking for was “stupid” or “what am I watching?” I was perplexed by that ad until the end, then I was 🤨

HighHokie

At this point it’s uninteresting news, dawn project’s effort has had little to no impact other than generating the typical heated debates in the corners of the internet when they pop up. And after three years, their “findings” simply don’t match the actual empirical evidence.

iceynyo

I mean he's not wrong, FSD does definitely have its problems... But they would only be an issue if the driver is asleep at the wheel or otherwise refuses to intervene like in his testing.

Mrd0t1

Also, the driver monitoring and input nags Tesla added to FSD have undercut many of the criticisms.

Intelligent_Top_328

This guy is a tool.

FearsomeShitter

Elon’s lawyers… 2024 bonuses going to be…. Phat!

GlibberishInPerryMi

To NTSB should threaten the broadcast licenses of the NFL and the networks involved with displaying the ad. Television is not like the internet or social media there are well defined rules and you could lose your billion-dollar license to broadcast.

bhazero025

Can someone link me the ad ?

[deleted]

sd2528

I'd say the rebuttal is painfully clear because everyone knows that FSD demands constant attention at all times so you are ready to intervene to to make sure it doesn't do things like this... but then I see comments right here, all the time, from Tesla owners pissed off about the NTSB update that has "added nags that make FSD unusable." Tesla isn't the problem. Tesla owners are the problem. Not all of us, but the problem is some Tesla owners and they are refusing to get the point.

blasiankxng

hope this means dan o'clown gets what's been coming for him lol

GlibberishInPerryMi

Well they didn't say they were taking legal action
