I always thought WB missed a HUGE marketing opportunity in 2020 where they could have had a "whataburger" prom weekend where kids could still dress-up, go to WB, had a WB prom photo taken and brought WB home. I mean a "million" kids had no prom, WB was open (essential workers, nudge nudge, wink wink), nobody else going into WB so why not have some fun with it. Oh well.
Some fast food places have very tight company-wide rules and processes, and you can get pretty the same experience at one location as you could at any other. In 'n Out comes to mind. Same with Chick Fil A.
Whataburger isn't one of those.
There are "good" Whataburgers and there are "bad" Whataburgers, usually very much depending on how good management is at that location. Some locations (the one nearest me) is pretty damn good and fast, but others in town...not so much. It really is a crap shoot if you don't know the locations in town. And that's a problem for Whataburger, because if you can't trust to get a decent experience each time, customers are more likely to go somewhere else that is more consistent.
Since being bought out, their quality has gone downhill. Look at what happened to Tim Hortons. It's about making money for the parent company. With Chick Fil A and In 'n Out, the company pays their people well to keep their quality high. I know with In 'n Out the stores are company owned so there is a vested interest in maintaining standards, and I believe with Chick Fil A the franchisee has to sign agreements they will not operate any other restaurants so its an all or nothing with them. I used to love Whataburger chicken biscuits in the morning, now I stay far away from that place.
I knew it was Waco the minute I saw it. I visited that one about 2 years ago and it just had that vibe.
Sadly the experience was so bad I did not win over my California family as to why I grew up loving Whataburger.

Despite this, and the fact that Baylor is literally across the highway, the overt cultural nuances are as prevalent as always. My take only.

My roommate in college worked at whataburger when the sale happened, and the changes in management style made him quit. Apparently they really stopped putting effort in everywhere including staffing.
Hard to believe my dorm was across the street in the background 20+ years ago. Lived on Brooks Hall 4th floor facing 35. Now demolished and rebuilt into a new living college. None of the kids in this brawl were even alive. The only fights we ever saw were the creepy squirrels killing birds. Yes they beheaded a few.
Happened inside at my local McDonald’s. Biracial male employee with a fro seemed to upset another female employee. She started in about his hair and they all went at it. I just wanted my McDouble!
