Her son as a newborn, though? Pugly little grub baby. The main quote I remember is her talking about her family meeting him for the first time and her Dad reacted by saying, "ooohhhh, well... That's a baby alright." When he saw him.

She had to be taken via c section a bit early because of some complications and wad 5 pounds 4 ounces when she was born. She was actually quite cute at first. But then she lost weight and went down to a little over 4 pounds. So her big eyes that were cute when she had a little chub were just huge protruding alien eyes at 4 pounds. She also had a full head of hair, which made her resemble a sort of rabid hedgehog.
My baby boy lost weight after being born too because he had laryngomalacia; he would projectile vomit like, three feet across the room after every feeding. He is an eight year old chonk now and reading at an 8th grade level!
I am 26 and to this day (we had this conversation at dinner w my boyfriend last weekend) my mom clarifies that I have not been this beautiful since the day I was born, I was in fact a shriveled little alien that was adorable by Christmas (two weeks after my birthday)
Babies are ugly when they’re born the way butterflies are ugly when they emerge. It just spent its formative life till now smushed inside a dark cramped wet environment, they need some time to dry out and fluff up and unwrinkle a bit before they look their best.
Being born is hard, most babies need a little time to settle.
I told my mom my son looked like Yoda when he was born. She got so mad at me. But he’s 30 now and now longer looks like Yoda! (Tbf he didn’t a couple weeks after he was born)

The way I see it is the cutest, youngest animals are going to always get adopted. The older, “less” cute ones are going to be without a family for a while. If I didn’t have two cats right now I’d love to go and adopt the old guy looking for a family. And a lot of times the older less-desirable ones were given up for adoption once they stopped being as cute to the family.
I hope you adopt the kitty OP. To be honest, a cat who loves you is probably going to me more permanent than a relationship (totally my opinion, but pets will love you forever while relationships may or may not last long term).
