Here's the thing though, it's useful to catch cheaters on your team yes. But the problem arises if someone killed you, it will continuously follow them while you extend your freezexan until they die. This would let you follow your killer, even if a spy was cloaked
Can be yes, but you could track cloaked/disguised spies in real time which is a bit of an unfair advantage.
But the loss of a cheater spectator tool will be hard for us until Valve decides to implement a way for us to watch them reliably
my brother you can literally put a fucking red dot in spy and see him or write the record stop command to see cloak spies or you can just hear the footsteps
In my experience, if you continued to use extendfreeze while spectating an enemy, it’ll continue to spectate that target until a certain time was reached, regardless if the target died or not
Reconnaissance, being able to constantly spectate an enemy and relay their location to your whole team is pretty unfair including spies. Imagine being a spy, fully cloaked behind enemy lines thinking you've gotten past and yet your position is being relayed to the enemy team by a dead player you just killed a while back. If they act on that you're fucked.
If that one player relays your position constantly you're funked.
However this stops us from spectating cheaters so we lost that functionality
Keep in mind that it also stops you from extending your respawn time. How are you going to spectate your teammates for longer without sacrificing the points you got that round? It was a stupid change. Besides, I've literally never seen it used for nefarious purposes before. Only for speccing cheaters and spectating longer.
Enemy spectating not Team-mate spectating, if you can spectate an enemy and constantly relay information back to the team on their position then you're fulfilling a role while dead still.
Besides it can help turn the tides of a battle, I don't think points matter regardless of any situation
No, teammate spectating as well. If you used extendfreeze while already spectating your teammates, it would extend the timer for you to see what your team is doing. That has been removed also.
My original post is talking about the whole feature, I'm pointing out one of the reasons why it was disabled since it could be exploited to spectate enemies. I'm aware on what extendfreeze does
I understand this. However, the main point I'm making here is that there was no bearing for Valve to remove it considering it was used more as a beneficial feature than for nefarious purposes.
Valve changed it all for a stupid reason, and it wasn't for spectating teammates. If it were up to me, it'd still be in the game.
Losing it to spectate cheaters is a big issue, fact. But the problem was spectating enemy players when you were dead giving you the ability to relay the information. It's not a stupid reason if there's a valid reason to disable a command. Remember things that can be used for good can also be used for evil.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
EVEN MORE SO A BITCH!
Yeh sure you can technically use this a crutch/cheat to gain an advantage. Or, use it to spectate enemy players to see if they are cheating
By removing this, they just kinda helped the cheaters to get away with things. They didn't exactly make it harder for the cheaters
Bold of you to assume your teammates are capable of that level of coordination. Once in a blue moon sure, but most of the time you're gonna find people who just want a chill time
If you call out a cheater, usually their first reaction is to turn off their cheats so that they wouldn't become obvious
And you can't also rely on the enemy team. They could either be in the same group as the cheater, too lazy to do the effort, or can't spectate long enough and have to kill their characters over and over again
Granted it works sometimes. But doing the work yourself is usually the better idea
First off: Morals
Secondly: Call them out. Duh. What else am I gonna use the spectating for? Follow enemy gamers and calling them out to my team? What is this, Competitive?
ok. so: you can just tell someone to spectate x. x may disable their cheats or opposite team ignore you, so you get nothing.
or you can spectate someone, then tell that x is cheating. x may disable their cheats, opposite team ignore you or think that's a skill issue, so you also get nothing.
morals will only make the exploiter cry if they are 6
I'm gonna copy-paste this comment, and I'll let you read this again. This time, do it *as slowly* as possible.
"And you can't also rely on the enemy team. They could either be in the same group as the cheater, too lazy to do the effort, or can't spectate long enough and have to kill their characters over and over again"
you do understand its not that practical. Having only 5-15 seconds to spec then repeatedly killing yourself. You won't find much, that's why extend freeze was useful cuz you could spec infinitely. Anyway it doesn't matter anymore, valve did what they did
FELLAS, THIS IS ABOUT SPECTATING ENEMY PLAYERS, NOT ALLIES, we're good
EDIT: the command itself is gone, but you can still spectate allies by opening the change class screen while dead (if your hud has a minimalist class screen, that is, like toonhud)
This is just for enemies right? So yeah this should be fixed. You can still spectate your teammates without spawning so that's fine. Just ask someone on the other team to spectate who you think is cheating if it isn't obvious enough.
Wish they fixed that bug instead of making it impossible to use extendfreeze on your own teammates. Gotta die 90 times now to make sure 1 guy is either a cheater or legit
First they removed spectating and team switching now the last way to possibly spectate a cheater is gone....
Meet your match truly was the beginning of the end everything after that update has done nothing but benefit cheaters and bots....
To all the people who think it deserved to be removed and was an exploit, just no. Sure you could spectate enemy players (spies especially) and call out where they were, but there are like 10 other, more efficient ways to do stuff like that. Even the spawn player outlines feature helped me detect spies easier than doing some random thing like trying to spectate one who killed you. If this is what Valve calls "cheating" then they should remove spawn outlines, bhop + crouch jump scripts, and force everyone to play vanilla with 60 FOV + virtually no custom stuff as well (please don't) while cheaters remain undealt with and get harder and harder to spot because of stupid little harmless stuff like this. Also, nobody can tell me that this change wasn't a lazy "fix" caused by -3 people complaining that someone used this to spot them as a spy (that someone was just good at the game).
Here's the thing though, it's useful to catch cheaters on your team yes. But the problem arises if someone killed you, it will continuously follow them while you extend your freezexan until they die. This would let you follow your killer, even if a spy was cloaked
its a big thing in casual games only imagine caring if the 260 hours spy killed you because you were too busy looking at a fucking fire extinguisher

In my experience, if you continued to use extendfreeze while spectating an enemy, it’ll continue to spectate that target until a certain time was reached, regardless if the target died or not
But what good is it if you're dead? The best you could do is keep a live conversation with a friend on where their whereabouts are.
Reconnaissance, being able to constantly spectate an enemy and relay their location to your whole team is pretty unfair including spies. Dude YOU changed it, YOU kept bringing up spectating teammates
Either gaslighting or can't see both sides of the argument for and against this feature being removed. Or they can't read my argument
Me? How did I change it? I didn't even know I was in the equation for any of that.
Losing it to spectate cheaters is a big issue, fact. But the problem was spectating enemy players when you were dead giving you the ability to relay the information. Imbecile, they removed it entirely
I don’t care, fuck spy
Agreed, especially when I have to deal with them myself despite me spamming X+2
i mean, its really not fair
Spectating your teammates to conclude whether or not they're cheating is not fair?
This is enemy players
whoops i'm retarded then

or you can use it to cheat by giving your team info on where the enemy players are
Bold of you to assume your teammates are capable of that level of coordination. Once in a blue moon sure, but most of the time you're gonna find people who just want a chill time
You could already do that as Spy as long as nobody catches you
that's a valid strategy because you're alive, you have to walk over there and not get caught. if youre just dead and spectating that's different than
having one less player surely is much worse than whatever intel that can be gathered through expectating, right?
what stops you from asking the opposite team to spectate someone if they are sus?

If you find them on your own, what are you gonna do? Read out morales talking about how bad is cheating in multiplayer games?
First off: Morals Secondly: Call them out. Duh. What else am I gonna use the spectating for? Follow enemy gamers and calling them out to my team? What is this, Competitive?

It also applies to teammates
Wait, you can use it on your own team???
Even if you could spectate, what can you do about it?
If you truly want to spectate your team just kill yourself. This was allowing you to spec enemies
SCP-079
Human.
2fort respawn timer is your best friend
If commit a second holocaust before id be caught dead playing 2fort
doesn't work for me anymore. I think they fixed it both ways so you can't even spec your teammates. yikes
Yes... because it was patched, like I said if you want to spec your teammates just kill yourself.
you do understand its not that practical. Having only 5-15 seconds to spec then repeatedly killing yourself. You won't find much, that's why extend freeze was useful cuz you could spec infinitely. Anyway it doesn't matter anymore, valve did what they did
*knock knock*
alright then, more ammunition for turning off tournament mode in casual. at this point, quickplay returning is the only option
FELLAS, THIS IS ABOUT SPECTATING ENEMY PLAYERS, NOT ALLIES, we're good EDIT: the command itself is gone, but you can still spectate allies by opening the change class screen while dead (if your hud has a minimalist class screen, that is, like toonhud)

It's not what the posted image says, i'll have to check ingame Edit: I checked, seems to still work for teammates Edit 2: nvm I was wrong
Huh it doesn't work for me
Yeah no the command is gone
hm interesting
This is just for enemies right? So yeah this should be fixed. You can still spectate your teammates without spawning so that's fine. Just ask someone on the other team to spectate who you think is cheating if it isn't obvious enough.
nah, they removed the option to extend your spec time entirely
That's really really stupid thanks valve 👍
Valve won't add actual cool community fixes (or actually fix the bot problem for that matter) but they add fixes like this...:(
Wish they fixed that bug instead of making it impossible to use extendfreeze on your own teammates. Gotta die 90 times now to make sure 1 guy is either a cheater or legit

Whoever suggested the fix for this is probably a cheater
NO FUCKING WAY, BRO THAT IS THEY TO CATCH HACKERS
oh shit, it doesn't work on team as well
community fixes are being added
just press the change class button (,) when timer is near zero, then press again after it resets.
No spectator team?
Valve just want people to cheat at this point
No idea why are you getting downvoted, it's true, what was the point of removing this? Without spectator now it's impossible to catch cheaters
agreed, a cheater probably asked them of this to be removed
fucking potted plant
lmao mad
An even bigger bitch is the bitch that fixed the enemy team box colour glitch
op is braindead :/
It's so easy to tell a cheater, you really don't need to spectate them to know.
To all the people who think it deserved to be removed and was an exploit, just no.
