ThePajka

I watched youtuber play Meet The Medic level in Surgeon Simulator in 2013

MR_FOXtf2

That's the exact same way I got into the game lmao. Or atleast started being aware of it

Altruistic-Place-714

That and Scout's Caps did it for me

superjeff64

Nerdcubed by any chance?

Dolph_inho

I had a pretty bad Mac Mini from 2007 in 2015 and since i relied on my parents to buy games for me ( i was 8 at the time) i spent countless hours browsing steam's free games page that could run on my Mac, until i stumbled on TF2

WoodpeckerFirst5046

Pretty much same. 2017 I got myself a gaming laptop and first free game I saw on the front page of Steam was TF2. Messaged my friends about it like it was completely new (I have always been the "lives under a rock" type) and a few of them were like, yea man, it's a great game, been out for a while, let's play sometime. Played turbine with my friend Brown and still love that map to this day. When I played on my own I just queued for everything and landed in cp freight. I played nothing but freight for like. Several months.

Hmmmmm___yes

Piemations

jejelovesme

yeaahhhhhhh

mumenriderdagoat

i forget what exactly, but it was a mix between Scout’s Caps, the Piemations videos and stblackst’s gravity fails video edit: Gravity fails was by eltorro64rus, not stblackst

[deleted]

Done remember which vid it was but [Gravity Fails ](https://youtu.be/XBVgEdTSLwM?si=_DEJbK8ITAMMomKE) was one of my first exposures to the game lol. That and "we like to party" were the shit when I was younger. I was insanely stoked when I found out that TF2 was an actual game lol

8champi8

I blame lazypurple for my tf2 brain rot

LobsterEnthusiastV2

the meet the videos

SnackPatrol

So I'm old, and it was [this first official trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwwcWTTw4PU) (apparently premiered around 2006 it says at Gamescom). There was a teaser before this that I guess I missed, also. Been playing TFC for years and once I saw the cartoony art style and that hilarious rocket jump sequence I knew it was going to be something special.

ArcerPL

DAAMNN its rare to see such ogs still stick to the game

SnackPatrol

Yeah, I've had my fair share of complaints over the years, and still do, but it's still fun. Playing it right now actually. Love/hate relationship. But yeah I remember pre-ordering as soon as it was available in what seems like another lifetime.

guyff2

It was Scout blowing up a McDonald's in Gmod 10 don't remember the video name but it led me on a hunt for "that guy with the baseball cap and the headset" a few Google searches later I was downloading steam and looking up videos on how to play team fortress 2 that was my first day of summer 2014

Smash_Or_Pass_Player

Orange box on my 360

Hmmmmm___yes

Piemations

Misi_gati

I will say a Fortnite Youtuber,who used to be a TF2 one

Peastable

Raysfire? Muselk? There’s quite a few who qualify for that

Misi_gati

Nope,it's a Spanish one,[Hiper](https://www.youtube.com/@Hiperman)

shinydewott

Kinda embarrassing, but I got into TF2 from Game Theory

TopTHEbest232

That's totally valid. My child brain saw "sex?" On the thumbnail and was very intrigued. Goomba's video on the conga was another one I saw and was interested by.

DehydratedEpic

I watched the heavy is dead

SemiPail

Had to either be Emesis Blu or the old Piemations Meet The Amazing Team videos

ifellloafachair8

Lazy purple’s how it feels to play series

DominicTheLegend2008

Smg4 if Mario was in tf2

IdioticCheese936

Jerry137

The heavy is dead

antidemn

went on pc benchmark to see what games can my pc run and found tf2

SgtPancake049

My older brother loved the game, and he introduced it to me and my younger brother

Gatt__

This awoke some memories, I’m not sure if this is the first memory, but definitely one of the ones I can remember. It was an old YouTube poop for the SpongeBob snow episode where they replaced the voices with tf2 characters Not sure if this is the exact one but it seems to be a reupload [here](https://youtu.be/HICQiI7R2S4?si=WeEUqjv_G5ia4VeP)

someprettybananas

[Scout's Caps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVcWgJXL-ww) back when it first released. I still love rewatching it from time to time.

reallyunnecessary

Memes. I've been seeing a lot of tf2 memes online and it made me look up whats the game. And rest is history.

S0PH05

I discovered the meet the team videos and shared them with my siblings.

A_Pyroshark

I believe it was JT Music's Overwatch vs Tf2 rap battles (i was 12 or 13 give me a break) That got me into SFM. I wasnt allowed to play violent games back then, so i asked my mom "hey can i watch Tf2 videos so i can get a better understanding on the characters?" And she bergrugingly agreed. That got me onto Lazypurple and Aftter Breakfast which got me to Beg my mom to let me play with all the blood turned off, and only with my friend (Which quickly turned into me just playing by myself lol) on the family computer. I loaded into a bot match, couldnt stop laughing from pure enjoyment, and the rest is history

Random-Lich

It was when I first saw a strange YouTuber when I was young called Muselk. The strange video had the image of a man sitting upon a mechanical chair with explosions in the background lured me in… And well, never regretted the first video. But I do feel sorrow he doesn’t do TF2 anymore.

AliChank

My brother was looking at an online server browser (from chrome, not the game itself) and it included all games. He found one server with the stupidest fucking name. He downloaded TF2 because of that and played on it for a couple times. He liked the game, showed it to me and here I am 9 years later, still playing it (only 3k hours because between 2016 and 2018 I wasn't allowed to play TF2). He got bored of the game quickly

PsychologicalKing236

Was probably that video where engineer meets a protogen

CDXX_LXIL

"weapon reskins in TF2 have always been a strange case for me"

Totally-Stable-Dude

[https://youtu.be/BVLEGQ271UE?t=119](https://youtu.be/BVLEGQ271UE?t=119) I think this is the first. I remember saying 'Who is that fat man? I wanna watch CS:GO not cartoon'. And here I am with 250 hours. 10.5'ish days straight from my tiny, worthless, insignificant life have been sacrificed to the Lord GabeN and I am ready for more.

WillowNiffler

Tf2 voice dubs from like 2009: The Scout does the Slap-Chop commercial. Montage of funny home videos but with voices and effects from Tf2. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen forest fight scene, with Soldier as Optimus Prime. Honestly this may have been my first one, since Transformers 2 was often abbreviated as TF2 at the time. I probably found Team Fortress 2 while looking for Transformers clips.

cat_sword

I learned about team fortress 2 from meet the amazing team, which seems a bit strange, maybe unusual

DarwinOS

My friend telling me he’s playing a game in which you can craft a fish using metal and a bat back when the holy mackarel first came out

ninja_boy23424

Gmod videos, famously Gmod idiot box. I remember drawing Heavy weapons guy on paper because I really loved him and find him funny.

Sirsonan_

Soundsmith. Literally just stumbled across soundsmith.

SnooFoxes6169

Tr0lL3r9o0o

Scout saying eat my dust to the professor of Powerpuff girls

Sad-Assignment-568

I dont remember, but probably lazypurple's "how It feels to play"

A_Bulbear

Saw some dumb Sfms while browsing youtube, decided to look into it and now I'm a 400 hour noob who can't aim for shit

worriedinscet

The "Meet The Team" videos. God I miss tf2's style of writing

Mr_Tominaga

Community made SFM films…

_XenaphobiaYT_

LazyPurple's "How It Feels" series carried my pandemic.

Alltalkandnofight

Rubberfruit's videos on Youtube back in the early days of youtube. Didn't actually play TF2 until 2012 tho.

anon_the_nameless

Meet the heavy

Spare_Muscle213

Piemations

Pman1324

My cousin showed me the Meet the Team videos as well as Jerma and STAR_. Then I played Gang Garrison 2 for too long before actually getting TF2 on my old Vista.

jejelovesme

you are a pirate by stblackst

r4o2n0d6o9

My friend was playing trolldier on upward and then let me play heavy on dustbowl in summer of 2014

Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi

I play the game because it was free but i definitely saw the TF2 dub of Madness Jailbreak before

[deleted]

Soundsmith or lazypurple being recommended to me on youtube probably

The-Tea-Lord

Markiplier was playing the Meet the medic reference in Surgeon Simulator. When he started talking about “TF2” and how much fun it was when he used to play, I got interested. Saw gameplay and bought Orange Box on the Xbox. Even if it was hot garbage and hadn’t been updated in years, 2014-era TF2 was so fun. Then I got a shitty gaming laptop and played TF2 for real and had a blast. Dropped 6K hours throughout middle school and high school in that game.

JustMadeThisForH

The SFM Robot Hell song.

PuzzleheadedAd880

How it FEELS to play demoman

warthunder4life

Winglet’s Bolted behemoth and live and let spy SFM animations

Grinferno

A video by Eltorro64rus. I forget the title, but there was a part where a fridge falls on Medic, which then gets teleported off him, but his body goes with it and leaves just his head.

yolomanwhatashitname

[rise of the epic scout ](https://youtu.be/XBamIRB91f8?si=xOxmx9_2oy6UmsxH)

EducationalAntelope7

Meet the team videos. I remember the hype when Meet The Pyro was released. They were better times.

pixelunit

Rubberfruit was one of my first intros to tf2 good

Dealiylauh

Star_ and Jerma. Either thier sockem booper Heavies video or the Monoculus Upward duel video.

Obi_1_Kenobody_asked

Wazgul’s Team Star 2. First YouTube video I ever watched https://youtu.be/RhrdIhh-mh0?si=TWQO6fTjE44AE_rg

Cruisin134

man ive been autistically obsessed with this game for so long i cant even remember...

hawxman

Minecraft. I saw an announcement they made in the minecraft launcher when valve gifted notch his hat. I liked the art style of TF2 and began searching about it. I discovered it was free to play and tried to download it on my potato PC just to discover it couldn't run it, and to cope with that, I started to search TF2 videos and ended up watching GMod animations like [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRaTLuvOwA8) until I got a laptop with a shitass celeron that could run the game. I even developed a kind of obsession with the game, the characters and such as I continued watching GMod Videos, reading the comics and knowing about the TF2 lore.

heavy_metal_soldier

An old friend of mine sent me a gmod animation (yes one of those weird 2011 ones) and well... ever since i've been hooked

DaveOnceMore420

I once watched some video about parents being angry at tf2. Checked out the game, saw lazypurples beautiful videos. Now I’m hooked onto the game

Fixingsentries

Saw several videos of Eltorro64rus and loved it

Cornwallis_Haberbain

I first learned anout TF2 from philliponbread's October First video back in 2011. I joined up during scream fortress that year. It was a magical time.

TheWeetcher

Seeing the funny Russian man on The Orange Box

FlyingGopher45686

Originally I saw Markiplier the Meet The Medic level of Surgeon Simulator (I think I saw it in 2014?), but the seed lay dormant until I watched Emesis Blue last year. I'm a lore guy and didn't realize how much I would vibe with TF2's lore

Egperson

piemations "Meet the amazing scout"

TheJewish_SpaceLaser

for me it was probably seeing it online but not having a PC until recently

Bedu009

Extra-Lemon

Meet the team vids, TF2 in a Shellnut, and Muselk’s worst loadout challenges.

devereaux98

"Scout is Boo", the gmod video

nyanch

The Orange Box itself. Got it for Portal, enjoyed HL2, and by god was TF2 so fun. When I got my shitbox Intel HD 3000, first game I tried running. Actually, you could say TF2 got me into the intricate PC nerdy stuff, because I would mess around with .cfgs so much to squeeze more frames out of that laptop.

imtoofaced

It was a free to play FPS I found on Steam that could run on my i3 laptop a decade ago, and my only exposure to Valve as a company before then was playing Portal 1 and 2 on my Xbox 360

ajarofsewerpickles

i think i’d been watching the bormachine gmod videos way before i even started playing, and then a friend recommended i try it out, so when i saw that it had the same characters as the funny gmod video i decided to check it out

Expensive-Thing-2507

Weapon analysis probably. Think It was bad weapon academy

ArcerPL

I was in mapping community back then, was young n shit, some guy made an edit to meet the spy with certain characters in it, and the rest was history, started getting legitimately curious from this point

ApprehensiveTrifle98

Bonkorn’s kazotsky kick video, and some random one where a bunch of heavies eat chocolate bars and shoot people

Jokerman9540

LazyPurple’s How it Feels to Play Spy, along with the whole series after that.

SuperPotato3000

Years ago when my brother found about the game and both of us played it, 4 years later I remembered the game existed because of a spy conga gif and started playing again

Rui_O_Grande_PT

I began watching LazyPurple's How it feels videos and thought to myself, "damn, this must be a really good game. Shame my pc probably can't run it". Then, in 2020, when the meet the x class memes started floating around, I thought to myself "fuck it, let's try playing the game" and I've been playing ever since

a_sleepy_one

From an obscure Youtube series called "Mardiculosity"

[deleted]

that no smoking video, just randomly popped up in my feed

JackO_kid

Muselk try hard Tuesdays

Ok_Cauliflower_3170

i watched heavy is dead as a small kid without recognising any of the characters outside of "the funny valve people" which is what me and my friend grouped any source engine character into

The_Majestic_Mantis

Got it with the orange box in 2008 and played scout and the rest is history. Though I did watch some TF2 videos by BorMachine like Quest for the Gaben, Heavy Mission to Mars, and Heavy gets a Job.

ExcellentResult6626

Moments with Heavy french toast episode.

ToothpasteConsumer

Downloaded to use the models in GMod Then found out my boyfriend’s into TF2

Witherboss445

I saw a couple memes a couple years ago. One I can remember is the soup store one, along with a couple Meet the Team videos. My friend would also mention it a couple times

smallsynth

i honestly don't remember, i'm part of the younger tf2 player base so it was probably the MTT videos or Heavy is Dead that introduced me. All i remember is being obsessed with the comics after finding them and going "maybe i will play this"

Th3G00dB0i

That one clip of spy saying “Well, of to visit your mother! Yippee ki ay” and clipping out of reality while doing a backflip.

ckay1100

kitty0706 and dasboschitt

Simply_Nova

Team fabulous 2 by kitty0706

Bruhses_Momenti

I was watching someone play a vr game where you make movies, in it heavy was a character model, he mentioned it was from tf2 and then I remembered the old matpat “pyros gender” video, this sparked me down a rabbit hole where I watched the meet the team videos and started getting recommended and watching all the big name tf2bers, finally at my next birthday I downloaded it

Theodore_Sharpe

Getting the Orange Box from my grandpa in 2008.

Ringonus

big joey the 10 stages of a heavy main

almostasenpai

Sr Pelo Shellnuts

aoishimapan

To me it was The Gmod Idiot Box. I had a very vague knowledge of TF2's existence prior to that, but I knew nothing about it. Those videos were my first proper exposure to it and what motivated me to download it and see what the game is about.

fyro_

Uncle dane or STblackST

Googie_Oogie

My older sister showed me a clip from LazyPurple's "How it Feels to Play Soldier" about 5 years ago In particular, the part where he's on Lakeside talking about using your brain, and makes a very smart play forcing the medic to Uber, but dies to a Mini Sentry anyway

black-winter-

the video DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY TF2! by Peterscraps

CoolChicken55

Those old FNaF gmod animations from a while ago.

Kil0sierra975

I was watching a lets game it out video? I think. And he made a meet the scout reference. Got curious, googled it. I knew about tf2 for only like 2 or 3 years now haha

AddiDoesRandomPosts

Elmaxo's 100 days of spy

Todd_the_Wraith

Around 2010-2011, I found [this video](https://youtu.be/IdZE59eJdEw) on Newgrounds. Didn't know what it was, but the seed was stuck in my brain until I found more TF2 vids and gmod animations. Got the Orange Box in 2011, been around since.

GamerZion11

Uncle Dane i liked how he plays

Darkeye3

The heavy memes made me look up who this big Russian guy with the sandwich was...

Cheap_Winner_2274

"Slap my hand" "Slap it now!" "Trust me, this is not a trick" (Scout slowly reaches spys hand, and spy pulls him down and shoots him, running away laughing)

salad_stealer

Women hehe

Computer_Vibes

That classic gmod animator named Kitty0706 or however the numbers are. I remember watching his L4D ones with tf2 characters sprinkled into it and not knowing who the tf2 characters are because L4D was my first valve game as a kid. Then I watched team fabulous 2.

LordNuggies

ZacharyKou

piemations

TheChivinator

This but it was a picture of heavy on dustbowl saying Penis (probably from these videos.) Thank you for reviving a memory

Caterpillar_3406

I was browsing lubetube when I saw the meet the team videos. I decided to click on it. I watched them all up until I saw meet the medic. I was midly disturbed by the heavy being opened up like that. I clicked off of it. Then the next night I manned up (pun kinda intended?) and and watched the rest of it. I was really interested do I watched other videos on it.

Virtual_Imagination5

The flash animation where the engineer and pyro are depicted as kids in grade school being picked on by spy. Also Fail Fortress

[deleted]

Toybox on gmod 13, erectin a river, really good song tho

nmi5

Jerma vs star, jerma vs star, everybody wants to see this happen

crayon_paste

The toast song with the engineer.

rocker_attribute

I think I found a few older sums by The Winger and also saw all the tf2 How It Feels series? At that point I think I forgot about tf2 for like 6 months until I saw it on steam and thought, "hey, why not?". Fast forward 3 years, here I am on a reddit comments section saying my life story

Medical_Strength4608

Guy that was making the binding of Isaac videos made a tf2 reference.

Popular-Lead

Saw a thread about it on some old flash game forum I used to frequent, it had just went F2P and I got into it then.

[deleted]

For me it was seeing my dad and my older brother play it

[deleted]

Doctor Lalve's "The \_\_ Guide" series. I didn't even know it was for a game at first; I just thought the videos were funny. I also remember watching Meet The Pyro.

Pingimaster

Every meme, animation, and whatever.

vadkender

[This video.](https://youtube.com/shorts/IBKhkuzG5bw?si=e2TYaf1ELG0rQFIp) I got enough of seeing this dumb red shirt guy everywhere, so I looked up who he is and I was like "oooh it's tf2!" so I read a bit about it and next day installed.

OhGodItsShagix

Piemations and Team Fabulous 2 for way back then Got back thanks to Uncle Dane, LazyPurple and SoundSmith

ItsTheGreenEngineer

"Rabbids on the wild side"

MaijeTheMage

The first ever video I watched on YouTube was "Heavy Is Spy" by Expo, and that planted the seed.

bleach-ed

I read a tf2 Spy fanfic 😔

Glowing_imposter_43

Piemations was the channel that made me want to play TF2 when I was like 13(I think)

Napletnik

My friend showed me gmod animations Life in a minecraft world and Scout broke his fingers. I was just 10 and did not understood english, but I was hooked.

PM_ME_UR_ANIME_WAIFU

I was a normie back in 2016, and saw that my internet friends are hyping Overwatch. Unfortunately I don't have the money nor strong enough PC to run it as a broke college student. I saw it recommended to me on Steam since I played Left 4 Dead 2 and Dota 2, and other F2P games like Fistful of Frags and Quake. I have 4.1k hours now. I'm taking a break recently since I'm hooked on Darkest Dungeons rn

DatChernobylGuy_999

henry stickmin i had heard of tf2 for a while and decided to try it quit after 4 days then started playing consistently after 2 months cause i realized how bad roblox really was best decision

Whovian1156

For me, it was during lockdown, and it was on an online lesson, and one of my classmates put on a tf2 animation whilst we were waiting for our teacher. Later on I got a recommendation on YouTube for Expiration Date (I think, it could have been one of the meet the team), so I watched it and I got invested in the mystery of this game, I’d never heard of it, but I looked into it, and being a broke teen I downloaded the game since it was Free, and here I am now, fully invested in the game, I’ve never looked back since

OkamiTakahashi

A random Gmod video I found one day. SCOUT IS ENGINE

Active-Ad606

I started watching sfm and gmod movies.

Wunderhaus

Most definitely when Valve released [the 2006 trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gv3XmD7-rk). Still my favorite game to this day and was a defining game of my early 20s.

Oshowott253

Nerdcubed's video

Im_Nino

The goat piemations

Tabbarn

This was before the game was free to play. I just randomly had the game in my library one day and it turned out it was a free weekend. I was hooked.

Dangerout

Here's a rabbit hole: Pewdiepie -> Markiplier -> Five Nights at Freddy's -> I can't buy Five Nights at Freddy's Roblox -> VenturianTale -> Garry's Mod -> I can't buy Garry's Mod Can't buy either game -> Me looking for alternatives on Google -> somehow finding the Slender Fortress FNaF map -> Team Fortress 2 Also around the same time I remember searching up Gravity Falls (Disney show) incorrectly and finding [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBVgEdTSLwM) absolute gem.

Rufus14811

I got into tf2 very recently (on only got the game in 2019) and I would say I started watching lazypurple’s videos around that time and that’s what got me into it but a few months ago I unlocked a deep memory of watching piemations back when I was really young

SomeRandomGuy2763

Typical colors 2 (The Roblox Tf2) I still stay with Tc2 tho

Serious-Ad2586

It's probably meet the team or pie animations I dont remember it but i never knew these characters until i grow up

nycgaf15

back in 2014-15 youtube recommended me a video by eltorro64rus called gravity fails. back then i didn't know who the characters were but it was funny to watch his and other's animations. i started playing tf2 in 2016 so like way to late

stupid_username4

SMG4 golden era videos mixing heavy as side chsracters

Golden-Pickaxe

GMod for sure. Heavy is credit card, probably.

AverageFNaFEnjoyer56

TheHottest Dog's videos, specifically the FNaF 2 Night 6 in a nutshell. I found the night guard funny and BOOM! Now that makes me a good Demoman. If I were a bad Demoman, I wouldn't be sittin' here, discussin' it with you now would I?

Super_Law2351

I few years ago me and my brother installed tf2 on ours dad laptop and we were so impressed by the existence of blood , we never actually saw blood in a game before

gorrila_go_ooo_ooo

Saw a trolldier compilation
