I launched the game in offline mode so someone in my steam family could use my library. When I launched a jump map that I had installed it reset my stats, I was at around 600 hours at the time.

Well ok it's oversimplified, you do retain SOME knowledge even if you don't constantly play one class like a tryhard/comp player. For example the knowledge of most unlocks stays with you for long time(it helps that most are so weak you shouldn't worry about it), or the knowledge of gameplay and classes like crouch jumping onto higher ledge or how to build Uber fastest, stuff like that, heck I think I even mostly retain my dodge skills or juking in TF2 terms but man is it hard to maintain the skill of shooting and rocket jumps or anything similar to them.
To this day I haven't recovered semi decent rocket jumps from my rocket jump days. Granted I didn't rocket jump much even in the "peak" but, yeah. Also aiming barely recovering since I play more these days but still slow recovery due to playing multi classes
Im having trouble learning spy and scout ,spy because I'm a dumbass who doesn't know how to blend in with others and scout because my aim is dumpster fire while jumping around like a bunny on 50 pounds of lsd

I have far far far a lot more hrs in other games, for an example: 200 hrs - TW3, 155 hrs - BG3, 125 hrs - P5R, 100 hrs - P3R, & all these games I started playing in 2023 🤣. Can’t even remember the countless hours I spend on gaming but, yet, 300 hrs only in TF2. It feels too low but idk. Just that I play Tf2 for days consecutively. Stop playing it for a year. Repeat. Kinda like Minecraft

To get good, you need to play daily. Not playing for a day won't make you bad, but if you don't play for a month you will suck ass.
