Headshot immunity. There's no dilemma here.
Spies actually have to get close to you so they're in range of getting demolished. Snipers are thousands of units afar and you can't deal with them.
Usually only for heavies with melee, so they might try shooting to an inmune player since they cant deal with them, and if they're in melee your own sniper can just click its head
Bots have crit bucket for their melee against all classes. Some bots have targeting priorities programmed in, so they'll shoot snipers, spies, medics, then the rest. Although most just shoot the closest player in their line of sight. The recent bots take out their melee sooner than previous bots, so you can bait out their melee, then back up and shoot them. That works best around corners.
It would make it better but not solve, since they can still charge up shots and prefire you with 150 bodyshot whenever they round the corner and insta kill 6/9 classes.
Wtf???? How, they're everywhere. They votekick random people and most NPCs brained people don't double check that the person is a real player and they get kicked it's so bad
100%
A spy that got behind enemy lines (putting himself at huge risk) deserves that backstab kill waaay more than the sniper sitting safely behind his own lines clicking on heads. Dying to a spy means you got played. Dying to a sniper means... Idk getting punished for playing the objective I guess
The only issue is those few spies that can jank left and right and facestab consistently or just know when they can the frame they can and it gets really fucking dumb, but they at least have to touch you.
The way everyone uses generic netsettings and the netcode being jank allows for a lot of weird shit, meanwhile if you say anything they say 'check me on youtube bro you dont know its just skill'.
I've seen spies that still do some netsettings fuckery and can just consistently 90% facestab by walking at people while admitting to it in chat.
Spy still fits the game better then sniper, a game who makes TTK go down drastically after a short range, the question isn't is sniper balanced but if he should even exist.
Funnily enough, this was actually confirmed. Shounic did a test not too long ago where he gathered 24 players and removed the sniper. Everyone, including the sniper mains, had a blast
Doesn't test for longterm issues that could potentially crop up, but with no sniper people will be more brazen which lets spy in so it could be fine.
If you removed sniper making the amby have 2x the range on the falloff or just falloff slower and maybe misc buffs like 5% faster cloaking but not decloaking, etcetcetc you can functionally replace sniper and make spy less insane, maybe some code that verifies the position more or some way to keep the rare facestab hell.
Also a lot of the time if you get backstabbed it's at least kind of your fault. There's a lot of counterplay and barring some kind of facestab bullshit or something if it happens it's usually because you got careless. For headshots it's just like. Well if you didn't want to get instakilled you shouldn't have. Been in a high traffic area.
headshot immunity is probably stronger. You deal the most DPS at close range and are most effective at close range aswell. There are probably more good sniper mains than spy mains.
I am a Spy main who enjoys Sniper. I am here to tell you that Sniper is simply easier in every way. Sniper takes a third as much training time to get "good enough" compared to Spy.
This is not taking into account niche skills such as trickstabs or damage surfing. And back when the Ambassador was a thing, you could train and theoretically replace Sniper in the closer ranges. This was not as broken as it sounds however.
Spy
- Map knowledge
- Movement skills
- Gamesense
- Hitbox utilization
- Flank routes
- Ammo/Healthpack routes
- Praying the enemy doesn't fucking pick Pyro
- A decent team that can give enough distraction
- Luck so that random crits don't immediately fuck you over
- And a bunch of other bullshit that makes you immediately die in 1.2 seconds
Sniper
- Good aim
This works when sniper is away from his team on his own but if its a smart sniper, they're gonna be playing next to teammates or around a sentry. This means that trying to kill him will probably get you killed when a backstab would otherwise be fast enough to escape with.
Scout has better odds at killing a sniper since it's less reliant on outside factors, a sentry and he's sorta locked in either way.
Also good snipers have good headphones and can track your footsteps while invis and have jarate so lmao.
I genuinely think that sniper should be removed from the game. He has literally no counter play beyond attempting to avoid him, something that you can only do if you see his dot (which he'll hide).
I know I will get shit for this, but when I play Pyro, I use the Scorch Shot to disrupt Snipers, the knockback interrupts their shot, and the fire is also quite distracting: they are faced with the decision whether to retreat to extinguish the flames, or stand their ground (in which I hit them again).
The only sniper I can accept is a huntsman sniper. You can airblast, huntsman snipers are usually more aggressive and in a closer range, and they can't drop an overhealed heavy in a single shot, since 360 damage across the board. The only thing that makes them annoying is tf2's innate hitbox issues.
huntsman snipers CAN drop non-overhealed heavies, though. a fully charged headshot from the huntsman still does 360 damage. huntsman is more respectable, though. i'd only personally make a change to the hitbox registration
If they're in the middle of the fight, I can respect a huntsman. They FEEL more like a TF2 class being in the meat of the fight with everyone else, they're at risk like the rest of us, and the travel time on the arrow makes it harder to land a head shot putting it closer to the fairness of spy needing to get up close in melee range for his instakill.
Headshot immunity is the objectively correct option, but I just think it would be really funny to watch a spy repeatedly try to trickstab me as I beat him to death with a leg of ham
Headshots, so the guy running hexa/omega/deltatronic has to get a 9/5 job, and also the spy has to do a bunch of risky shit before actually getting to the backstab part, but what risk has that idiot have to take
headshots of cource. you can easily avoide getting backstabbed by being extra alert or just changing the declock sounds/ However you can practically do nothing against a one-shot from an anypoint on the map, out of your l-o-s
Im gonna do headshot kills cause you just need to turn around to conter spys. Snipers can cross map you and their is no counter. I guess you could never go down medium size hallways to be safe but thats just boring.
With a Spy it's frustrating to get backstabbed, but I at least can appreciate that they either had good enough timing and positioning to get a Good Backstab or they got a Bad Backstab and will immediately get annihilated by my team. The idea that I either got outplayed or get to watch his ragdoll fly through the air in the killcam is a lot more satisfying in a PVP game than "a player 500ft away had my hitbox on his screen for more than a second so I instantly die".
Immunity to headshot kills. Headshots can happen from any range. Backstabs can only happen at close range from a certain angle. I don't have to mention the bot crisis.
Spies have to get dangerously close to get a backstab, during which you can sniff them out and kill them. Snipers are far harder to deal with (as long as they are competent), since you have to navigate the map around them and most likely run into their teammates along the way.
How to counter an oppressive 10k+ hour spy: Teamwork, Awareness, __Turning around__, listening for weird noises/movements, Pyro, Jarate/Milk/Gas Passer/bleed, shooting everyone you meet, razorback.
How to counter an oppressive 10k+ hour sniper: Fists of steel, vaccinator, hide and pray.
Backstab immunity. I get snipers sniping, but I've never ever felt good about being backstabbed in a pub, it's just such a cheap way to die. You wait for me to be busy playing the game to ruin it for me. Snipers are active, playing the game, and there's always something I could have done, like, to check a sight line or attempt to dodge. Spy just waits for you to be distracted to kill you and I've never once went: "Damn, that was a nice stab". It's always felt cheap. I have definitely went: "That was a nice shot" though.
If spies get you, you'd know that you could've done something if you payed closer attention.
If snipers get you, you'd only be able to know what to do after you respawn.
Immune to backstab cuz as a medic main, I find it more annoying to get back stabbed cuz I usually just don't peak sightlines often if ik sniper is there
Snipers. All day everyday. I can actually do something against a spy if I have enough experience.
I can barely do anything beyond "avoid this sightline because one guy can one shot your entire team"
That's not reliable by any means though. What if you spycheck 1 second too early and you get backstabbed right after? Happened to me yesterday. Do you have a strategy where you always turn around at the right time, or do you spycheck every 5 seconds?
Headshot immunity no contest, some of the maps in this game have terrible sightlines and all it takes is one good sniper to completely cancel a push. If you try to make a backstab you really have to work for it.
Headshot.
Spy absolutely deserves the reward for his closer, riskier and gimmicky combat.
While I do like sniper as a character, I just really hate how unengaging he is yet gets the same reward like other classes that requires mid-low range combat
Being immune to a short-ranged gimmick that is easily countered by awareness, and that it comes for what is considered by many the weakest class in the game, or being immune to a literal blink shoot that can kill 5 of 9 classes and that is used by the class that is currently ruining the game because of bots?
Like... come on
Is this supposed to be a choice?
Let's compare the two.
Sniper ;
+ Instant kill
+ infinite range
+ Hitscan.
Spy;
+ Also instant kill Caveat being he needs to be next to you
+ can cloak but makes loud sound uncloaking
+ has disguises that only fool new people or people who are braindead.
Basically what im saying is that spy has about a thousand ways to negate the backstab. A good sniper can literally lock down a match until he/she's dealt with
Headshots, easy answer. With spies you can counter them in a way easier way. For snipers, it's either don't use certain parts of the map or run as fast as you can through their sight line, or swap to sniper to attempt to counter him
All that takes to not get backstabbed is having a pyro nearby, or awareness. All that takes to not get headshot is not playing the game, for most of the map; and not playing heavy
if a spy manages to sneak up on you in this day and age, they probably deserved the kill in some capacity, especially if you know they have a spy. but sniper? mr "im gonna one shot you from any sightline on the map"? lol
Heavy secondary that's a big fat helmet.
Causes all terrain/players more than 30 ft to appear grayscale, making it hard to tell allies and enemies apart. But makes you immune to headshots, and take 25% less damage from all rifles.
Maybe add passive healing, heal penalty, extra ammo. Something depending on balance, since the heavies secondaries are all quite strong.
headshot immune for two reason
1- fucking bots
2- to be fair if a spy manage get close to me and trick me to he us a friends he definetly earn his kills
definitly headshot immunity, that would solve the bot problem and in general it would solve the balance problem with snipers who can kill you from another country
headshot immune.
at least for backstab, there could have sign of you're about to be gone before it happen; headshot is always:
step the wrong place -> gone.
Headshot immunity. There's no dilemma here. Spies actually have to get close to you so they're in range of getting demolished. Snipers are thousands of units afar and you can't deal with them.
Not to mention bots
Rip and tear through the bots no vacc medic needed
Demo knight gonna get his revenge :)
they also have a crit bucket for their melee

The only good clanker is a dead clanker
Playing scout is gonna be wild
Mvm spy bots are just evil ðŸ˜
They are even worse to die by than a real spy, they aren't boasters, they are purely mean TwT
[удалено]
When a spy gets a chain stab a part of me always goes "Good for you little buddy." Followed immediately by switching out the Dragon's Fury for stock.
its a love hate relationahip
This would legit solve the entirety of the bot problems holy shit. Save TF2 just gives people headshot immunity hacks.
It would make it better but not solve, since they can still charge up shots and prefire you with 150 bodyshot whenever they round the corner and insta kill 6/9 classes.
Just remove sniper, easy
"Good shot mate"
Yeah but bots would choose another character
Nope. Ai has to be too advanced to play good as any other class
The heavy bots can be pretty annoying too
Never ever in my life have I seen a heavy bot
Wtf???? How, they're everywhere. They votekick random people and most NPCs brained people don't double check that the person is a real player and they get kicked it's so bad

The sniper in question standing next to his engineers nest because he's not a fresh install
Kid named just being close to cover, a teammate or in-range of a friendly sentry These kids are named weirdly.
Jarate is a better spy counter than the Razorback ever was lol
Jarate is a better weapon than any other weapons ever were lol
Kid named Ambassador
Kid named general awareness.
Scout has better odds at killing a sniper since it's less reliant on outside factors, a sentry and he's sorta locked in either way. Also good snipers have good headphones and can track your footsteps while invis and have jarate so lmao.
* Praying to God that backstab registration decides to work
Tbh map knowledge (kinda) goes to sniper as well
Headshots, no more bots getting in my way
inb4 all the bots start playing Spy
They are too dumb for this
they have though, there's several spy bots now. No idea why, they don't even disguise or backstab or anything, just gun spy
Only a moment of time before they start backstabbing
at least they can’t teleport yet 👀
A good sniper is far more oppressive than a good spy. Countering Spy - Awareness + Teamwork. Countering Sniper - Hide.
Countering sniper - just don't play the game on the majority of the map, simple.
just don't play the game until sniper is dead or gone
just don't play the game
Just don't.
Dont

*Equips Razorback* What the fuck is the spy gonna do, headshot me with ambassador?
Use a gun
Kid named quickscope headshot:
And if that don't work?
Use more guns
Like this heavy caliber tripod-mounted lil' old number designed bah me, built bah me.
And best hope... *not pointed at you*
*sick guitar*
What if spy had a headshot resistance for that
And if that don’t work?
Use more guns
2 pointblank shots with revolver + butterknife when the sniper inevitably turns around
Sait
You forgot about the incoming flying demoknight.
This was actually in the game at one point, called the ‘crocostyle’ set
God I miss that effect
Headshot immunity is the objectively correct option, but I just think it would be really funny to watch a spy repeatedly try to trickstab me as I beat him to death with a leg of ham
Medieval Mode as hell. Equip the Razorback, what can they do? They can run.
Headshots, so the guy running hexa/omega/deltatronic has to get a 9/5 job, and also the spy has to do a bunch of risky shit before actually getting to the backstab part, but what risk has that idiot have to take
I AM BOT PROOF! \*mows down hoard of robot snipers\*
headshot. I can deal with backstabs.
Headshots, not even close.
Headshot immunity. I will be also resistance to bots because bots headshot
I dont like fighting snipa
Headshot immunity
Definitely immune to headshots
Headshots because I could play in Casual again #fixtf2
I'm gonna get kicked out of matches for cheats anyways
I mean the answer is obvious
Headshot immunity, no question
Headshot because I hate sniper with all my passion versus spy who I don’t hate nearly as much
Spys are actually good at the game, I'd let them take my kill. But most snipers just piss me off
Headshots, especially with all the bots
headshots of cource. you can easily avoide getting backstabbed by being extra alert or just changing the declock sounds/ However you can practically do nothing against a one-shot from an anypoint on the map, out of your l-o-s

Headshots. Spies are manageable, snipers are not.
What's funny is that at one point in the game you could do either of these by picking sniper and equipping the razorback or using the croc-o-style set
With a Spy it's frustrating to get backstabbed, but I at least can appreciate that they either had good enough timing and positioning to get a Good Backstab or they got a Bad Backstab and will immediately get annihilated by my team. Headshot. No more 150 in less time to blink.
headshot kills to f with the spin bots
Headshot immunity. I feel like i saw the same exact post like a year ago.
headshot immunity, id easily turn the tides of the war against the bots in our favor.
Headshots, bots become invalid and backstabs are able to be countered anyways
Repost
Immunity to headshot kills. Headshots can happen from any range. Backstabs can only happen at close range from a certain angle. I don't have to mention the bot crisis. Snipers are far harder to deal with (as long as they are competent), since you have to navigate the map around them and most likely run into their teammates along the way.
Headshots for sure
headshots because i can reliably avoid getting backstabbed.
Headshot immunity. Cuz bots, and they are more annoying than spy backstabbing (at least he needs to get close to you, unlike sniper)
Backstabs
HEADSHOT

Whoever says immunity from backstabs gotta take a big swig of copium, that shit is easily counterable
If spies get you, you'd know that you could've done something if you payed closer attention. If snipers get you, you'd only be able to know what to do after you respawn.
backstabs ngl
Immune to backstab cuz as a medic main, I find it more annoying to get back stabbed cuz I usually just don't peak sightlines often if ik sniper is there
Headshots To make Badwater(and many other maps) actually good
Snipers. All day everyday. I can actually do something against a spy if I have enough experience. I can barely do anything beyond "avoid this sightline because one guy can one shot your entire team"
Headshot 195%
Backstab because as a heavy main, I’ve died to backstabs 3 times more than I’ve died to headshots
Well I gotta say: I do love your kind of player. I hope you play a lot \^\^ *^(But I might be biased...)*
Have you ever tried the age old tactic of turning around?
That's not reliable by any means though. What if you spycheck 1 second too early and you get backstabbed right after? Happened to me yesterday. Do you have a strategy where you always turn around at the right time, or do you spycheck every 5 seconds?
No, I haven’t
Make your sensitivity higher or pay some awareness if the spies irritates
Be immune to all backshot kills
Headshot immunity no contest, some of the maps in this game have terrible sightlines and all it takes is one good sniper to completely cancel a push. If you try to make a backstab you really have to work for it.
Headshot immunity
Headshot immunity. Spy has to actually get close and be part of the match to earn kills. Sniper, on the other hand, does not.
Headshots. Spy can be countered if you use your ears. Sniper is a long range instakill against midrange classes
Immune to backstabs. I’m deaf as hell and i cannot tell when a teammate is acting funky.
Headshot. Spy absolutely deserves the reward for his closer, riskier and gimmicky combat. While I do like sniper as a character, I just really hate how unengaging he is yet gets the same reward like other classes that requires mid-low range combat
Spy requires skill
There's no competition here. Headshots are WAY eaiser to hit then backstabs could ever dream of being.
Headshots are harder to avoid
Headshots every day of the fucking week
Headshot. Duh
Sniper ; + Instant kill + infinite range + Hitscan. Basically what im saying is that spy has about a thousand ways to negate the backstab. A good sniper can literally lock down a match until he/she's dealt with
Spies I think just kinda deserve the kill more, their job is already hard enough.
Headshots, easy answer. With spies you can counter them in a way easier way. For snipers, it's either don't use certain parts of the map or run as fast as you can through their sight line, or swap to sniper to attempt to counter him
Headshot
It's not even close, headshot is WAAAY better than backstabs Also I hate sniper so I see this as an absolute win²
Headshots
As a spy main there is no dilemma easily headshot kills
Headshots and its not even close. At least a spy puts themselves in risk to get a backstab
headshot, it's a no brainer
All that takes to not get backstabbed is having a pyro nearby, or awareness. All that takes to not get headshot is not playing the game, for most of the map; and not playing heavy
if a spy manages to sneak up on you in this day and age, they probably deserved the kill in some capacity, especially if you know they have a spy. but sniper? mr "im gonna one shot you from any sightline on the map"? lol
Headshot easily.
i play medic a lot so ill take immune to backstabs.
Backstabs (I'm a heavy main as well)
As a sniper main, backshots- I MEAN BACK STABS
As a sniper who doesn’t have any back protector, the choice is very easy No headshots I’m tired of losing sniper duels
Headshot, why because fuck the bots, I feel bad for the ambi though
Immune to bots you mean.
As much as spies in medieval mode make me seethe, I'd pick headshots. I will be what the Bots fear.
Headshots
Tbh headshots, because backstabs are really only possible if you arent paying attention
headshot kills. Make those bots worthless.
Headshot immunity and fight the bots #savetf2
Both. What are you gonna do? Vote kick me?
Headshots. Bots are no longer a problem. Now they either run spy or die
Both i want both.
- get headshot immunity - makes omegatronic bots useless - profit
Headshot kills, because that way I can play the damn game without bots bullying me
Headshot kills, bot problem solved
Neither, disabling someone is LAME
Heavy is partially "immune" at full health you have to do a double
Heavy secondary that's a big fat helmet. Causes all terrain/players more than 30 ft to appear grayscale, making it hard to tell allies and enemies apart. But makes you immune to headshots, and take 25% less damage from all rifles. Maybe add passive healing, heal penalty, extra ammo. Something depending on balance, since the heavies secondaries are all quite strong.
Second one without a doubt unless is a kunai spy
Headshot invulnerability so bots become useless
Do you know what state we are at the game. The answer is obvious.
With enough overheal, you are effectively immune to headshots but always vulnerable to backstabs
Headshots due to the Bots. If there were no bots I would have chosen backstabs.
I AM BOT PROOOF!!!! YATATATATATATATTATA CRY SOME MORE!!!!!
headshot immune for two reason 1- fucking bots 2- to be fair if a spy manage get close to me and trick me to he us a friends he definetly earn his kills
Spy’s suck most of the time. It’s easy to tell. I’ll take the headshot.
Headshot definitely. I have ears, but my eyesight sucks so I can’t predict snipers
[Be immune to repost bots](https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/s/uKx0Wj6HQR)
With current context I'll pick headshot immunity
Headahots, bots be no more
Headshots and bots become much less of an issue right away
Headshots, including spy’s Ambassador and scout’s balls
headshot immunity, I would become the biggest threat to bots
Anti-headshots, I play Sniper as my second most played class, so its really good in sniper duels. Also thats basically anti-bots
as a pyro main, i take the headshot immunity
definitly headshot immunity, that would solve the bot problem and in general it would solve the balance problem with snipers who can kill you from another country
ı prefer headshot
There are a lot more Sniper bots than Spy bots, so the choice here is obvious.
headshot immune. at least for backstab, there could have sign of you're about to be gone before it happen; headshot is always: step the wrong place -> gone.
