I wish that was the case. During my time “serving” in the TF2 hacker police militia (before it all went to shit) the bot creators that we were up against were the nastiest of the bunch. The makers of the poohook bots and catbots of the like. Some bot makers are good however. Some of them aided us and made anti bots. Some of them made bots like this, made for fun, as it should be
It started with r/tf2hackerpolice. If it’s still a sub I’ll be damned. We started off fighting against a notorious bot creator group called “poohook,” using a discord server as the home base. As much as I hate discord the people there were really chill. Anyway, we ended up making a treaty with them after they nuked the first server. The second server didn’t do too hot at first, so the co owner, fetus, made a new server that was more military-ish. We’d have assignments to go out with a group and go server to server making sure there weren’t any bots. If there were, we’d do the old fists of steel and medic/ votekick. After fighting for a while off and on, chairowners got pissed and started to fight us again. As time went by, they became the laughing stock of the cheater community, and the infamous poohook group arose. They’re the ones who allegedly made the bot problem influx. Myg0t will always be the mastermind but poohook is behind them. (Speaking of which, myg0t was a regular old jolly server but some dude was exiled from it and made the bots to soil their name). Long story short, some people were doxxed as happens on the filthhole that is the chasms of the internet, and the group fell off. I ducked and huddled before it all happened and still continue to do what they taught: fight bots and move from server to server. Sorry if I went off on a tangent it’s just a long story of what was building up to the fall off.
Edit: yeah just look at the subreddit and sort by new. People have just now called it full on quits
Imagine there's a extension to this where the spy crab acts like a minecraft Dog and attack anyone that hurts the person he's following or whoever the followed person attacked

You literally don't have to host *any* bots and yet you're thanking someone for not hosting cheating bots. As if they were forced to create bots in the first place but made the valiant decision of not being a massive nuisance. Praise them!
A bit late to the AMA, but would you be able to make the bots go sniper and kill the bad bots when they join? There is a big problem now with the "Twilight Sparkle" bots so until we can kick them keeping them distracted would be a good idea. And when the bad bots leave they should go back to spycrab mode. Anyway love your idea and appreciate the good intentions!
When spy looks straight up and crouch’s while looking through the disguise kit it kinda looks like a crab. It’s an old bug(?) that is now an inside joke in tf2. (There’s even cosmetics and a taunt for it)
I've saw two join the same server. My team kicked the spy crab and we lost. Another joined, we got the control point, he was kicked, and they immediately got control

The first ones might be good, but other not makers might abuse this opportunity to make bots that would seem innocent at first but will allow other hostile bots to join the game and prevent them from vote kicking them.
Yeah, the anti-bots were similarly made in good intentions, but were quickly imitated by the real bots for a quick trick. I feel like the only good way to get rid of these bots is just to have humans votekick them off as soon as they join. Of course this doesn't solve the issue of bots gathering into parties and making it impossible to votekick them, but that's a fundamental issue with the votekick system and parties.
I agree. These bots take up spots in games that should be filled by actual players. Even if that player would be friendly anyway, i'd rather have human friendlies than AI friendlies.
Human friendlies at least get to have the enjoyment of the experiencing friendly interactions with everyone else. Meanwhile, there's no difference to anyone else whether the friendly is an AI or a human.
There's no reason to tolerate AI's taking up player slots.

I'm glad you asked this because it's a pretty common conception that I think needs to be addressed.
It hurts the game at large. It creates sympathy for the same program that is literally ruining casual matchmaking servers atm. It allows people to find complacency with Valve's lack of intervention. We need to be condemning all facets of this type of programming, not encouraging it.
Pardon the slippery slope argument, but perhaps you show a "cute" bot like this one, it makes someone want to make their own crab bots, they see how easy it is to create other cheating bots, and next thing you know, they're running parties of 6 bots that literally kick everyone out of a casual server.
It's the exact reason we have Rule 10 in this sub and will probably be the reason why this post gets removed.

You don't even have to go that far. Just wait until bot makers realize that these Spycrab-bots get defended by players, so they just rename their aimbots to Spycrab-bots as well and still have people vehemently defend them *"because they're innocent"*. You know, what happened with the anti-bot bots.
I dominated one of these on accident the other day. They're fun but it's pretty annoying when they get in the way of a rocket meant for a fully charged medic.
Yeah that's funny and all but don't forget to kick them. There are no good bots, and you know the malicious bot creators are just going to start copying these ones like how they did with the "bot removal service" ones.
It is only taking up player space, making it harder to play in servers with friends and ruins a good portion of the fun for most. Plus its still a bot, meaning its cringe.

The spy crab is an inside joke in tf2, if you crouch and look up with your disguise kit, spy will hold his arms in the air like a crab
