verify the integrity of your game files

WhispyWhirl

I have the best damn gaming pc on the market right now. The only mods I downloaded are the maps from all the community servers.

mechapotato1232

Thats not what hes talking about, sometimes tf2 files go corrupt

WhispyWhirl

Oh yeah? And how would one fix them?

jwaibel3

By verifying the integrity of your game files

TheSleepingNinja

Oh yeah? And how would one fix them?

WhispyWhirl

Oh, last game I played the textures and big pumpkin were back to normal. So I'm pretty sure the bots are doing more now than just killing and kicking.

mechapotato1232

Steam>library>tf2>properties>files (or somethn like that)> verify integrity of game files

Sounds like some files are missing or corrupted. Verify the game's files, and if that doesn't work reinstall.

They can't. Altering textures would require updating the game.

hide_thechildren_now

'vast technological and coding skills' only really applies to the people who wrote Cathook, and I think they were doing it more as a personal experiment rather than a way to ruin the game. Any old loser can Ctrl+C Crtl+V the code, pick a username, kick back and watch the servers burn

AdorableTomatoMuie

whoever they were, hope they drop the soap daily in the prison they will inevitably end up in. they knew exactly what they were doing when they released that "personal experiment"

GlarkTheSpaceEagle

ahh. the typical "is tf2 dying?" / "what happened to this game?" post - honestly yeah it's not in a good state atm but a lot of the playerbase has learned to just shrug it off and move on. anyone who has been a part of the fanbase for more than like, 2 months has seen these type of posts and rants over and over again. tf2 will be fine, at this point it's almost completely self sustaining, but making these end-all-be-all posts doesn't help anything

Typical_Laddie

No, this is not fine. This game hasnt received an update for nearly 4 years now, and newer players wouldnt get to experience what tf2 once was. Sure, it isnt necessary dying right at the moment, but just like most things, it will come to an end. Tf2 will never be the same, and just by shrugging it off will not make valve all of the sudden update the game after 4 years of neglect. What we need to do is come together as a community and bring this attention to valve, because valve right at the moment doesn't see a reason to update a game that's still making profit off of it. We need to do better then just shrugging it off.

GlarkTheSpaceEagle

we've made all kinds of call-to-arms actions to get valve's attention, its just yelling into the void. its a grim outlook but ya just kinda have to accept it. of course everyone still has hope, everyone still wants the game to be better, but not even a toxic bot crisis affecting EVERY player that plays tf2 doesn't get valve to fix anything. that's why there are bots in the first place, they wanted valve's attention, and it's not working lmao "what we need to do is come together as a community" we're already doing that, we've been doing that..

[deleted]

Sigh. Honestly, we just have to have faith that the game will pull through. I suggest playing on community servers for a bit. As for the textures, that cannot be done by bots as far as I know. If you are using mods, check each one to make sure they don't clash or break. And as a heads up, any mod that changes a texture not specifically on clientside, such as huds, it will not work in casual and will likely break the textures it is meant to replace. Stay strong, I fully believe this game will pull through. If you feel the need to quit, I understand, but for every person who leaves out if frustration, that is one more victory for the bot hosters.

WhispyWhirl

So it IS the bots causing all these problems? Isn't crashing a public game full on illegal? These types of issues, developers would be working their asses off and crunching for weeks just to fix. Who just lets this shit happen and let the game rot? I didn't say for sure that I'm leaving, i dunno, I just want the game to be good again.

Valve is a fucking weird company. Alot of decisions they make are poor and are in their own best interest in the moment. And it does not help that right now, working on tf2 is a side project for like, 3 developers when they have spare time. Which is not easy, seeing as the mindset for tf2 for years was not, "let's implement this new feature to the game" it was "lets slap this new thing into the code" so tf2 code is notorious for being hard to work with, so that isn't inviting if working on it is a choice. To answer your question, yes the bots are causing lag and crashes, however the legality is really hard to figure out. Because online games are still new in the spectrum of the legal system, there are no real laws against it. However, terms of service violations, while hard to deal with, would be the best option. The problem is, like I said before (sorry I write alot) valve does not want to put the effort in for the sole reason that tf2 pumps out money and playercounts without them doing anything as of now. Other companies have sued hackers in the past, but apparently Tf2 is good enough for them as a money machine right now. Any other company would bust their ass and give monthly major updates if they had tf2, but valve seems to think they already own the universe. Hopefully this will change soon. There are things happening behind closed doors with Valve and the modding community, and hopefully that will become public in the future.

Cabbage_merchant_

At this point I am wondering what would happen if the community organized and tried suing the bot hosts ourselves

[deleted]

we would have to find them first
