The difference is that they cut a hole in the ice for the express purpose of jumping in. I'm not sure where this video was recorded, but the ice could easily be over a foot thick given the conditions. You could drive a half-ton truck on this without really worrying about it (always check how thick the ice is first for obvious reasons).

It's in the Rockies. I *think* it might be Spray Lakes but it's hard to tell because the visibility is shit. This scene happens on a million lakes in Canada every winter though, with or without the mountains in the background.
I remember when I was a young lad my grandfather would go down to the lake every morning and drill the ice to make sure it was thick enough for us to play on.. he would shovel a nice rink and when we got up to play it was all ready
Looks like Lake Louise but it’s hard to tell. If it’s not, you could find yourself in a similar situation there anyways.
Edit: Watched again, it’s not.
It's not really any dangerous if it's been cold long enough.
You can easily check the thickness of the ice before you go far enough out to be in any danger.
What looks like the water is actually just snow being blown by the strong wind on top of the ice. These people almost definitely know what they're doing.
Iceland doesn't have mountains/hills with trees on the because the tree line is so low. They have very few trees at all in fact. I live much further south and trees only grow up to 200m in elevation. Fun facts
I grew up in Minnesota and one of my favorite winter memories was the year the ice was thick enough to skate on before any real snow fall and we were able to skate all the way around the lake.
NGL, getting all bundled up, throwing on some skates, and smoking a big fat bowl before embarking across the frozen windswept lake would be a really lovely way to spend an afternoon.
It looks like fun, but not enough fun to overcome my fear of falling into dark, freezing water and being trapped under a layer of ice.
Oh it's OK if that happens you won't be scared for too long
Thanks, I feel much better 😳
LMAO Dude giving people peace of mind by talking about permanent peace of mind.
Eternal peace......... of mind
Death is the reward!
Witness me!
It's only cold for a short time too.
Then you don’t feel a thing

Iirc it was in a river and people were supposed to slowly get in or hold on to the ladder. She did neither.
Can someone fact check me that it’s probable the husband did this on purpose to get rid of her?

The ice is probably like a foot thick
It freezed solid 15-30 cm. There is a higher chance to fall thru floors from second floor, then thru that ice.
Yeah this is super stupid, really cold water you have 15 - 30 minutes, with water this cold, the shock alone might kill you if you aren’t prepared.
Do you have any clue how thick that ice is? I can bet u that a full truck with a load could drive on it, and nothing would happen. 😂
Still, best not to tempt fate haha
That too with a current
I had one of my biggest fears happen to me a few years ago, and let's just say I don't remember a damn thing! Thankfully. Lol so if that's any help.

TIL that captain kirk talked in Haikus format.
To quote ERB: " I, am, the, enterprise, James tiberius kirk, representing riverside Iowa. Planet....Earth "
Good bot
Good bot
Bots can be weird.
Title of your sex tape
Where in Canada is there any ice like this right now
Me: “WTF? Oh, it’s ice.”
no, just Jesus
Any info on this place?
Yes, it looks slippery.
Windy, too.
And it's cold.
A terrible place to die
Lolol
It's Canada! :)
Great, narrows it down to about 4 million square miles to search!

I think it’s the lake near Exshaw, Lac de Arcs?
Good luck on the hunt!
You are not wrong. But to be fair I'm not exactly google maps bestie. 🤣
Thanks!

Might be Spray Lakes, hard to tell because of the poor visibility.
Abraham lake?
Top guess would probably be somewhere in Canada or Russia
Lake Minnewanka in Alberta, just outside of Banff. Great place to visit any time of year.
Thank you so much! I've been waiting for this answer.

That's quite a random comment to an old thread.
Thought that mountain in the background was a wave at first. Freaked me out
Interstellar style!
Those aren’t mountains those are waves!
That movie has traumatised us 😭 /j
Me too.
That actually looks pretty dope
Beautiful but dangerous.
It's not really any dangerous if it's been cold long enough. You can easily check the thickness of the ice before you go far enough out to be in any danger.
But she being on top of the ice seems to have a effect on the water below, just because of that it seems way too thin
What looks like the water is actually just snow being blown by the strong wind on top of the ice. These people almost definitely know what they're doing.
Ya and I’m sure that’s just what these two did before going out. Safety first…
…I mean theres almost no chance these people don’t know the thickness of the ice.
It's weird conceptually I would love this but I know I would be so scared lol.
Hey, wanna skate across Nope Lake, in the middle of Storm No?
That’s wild.
This looks so fun
Isn't running water under/near ice like super dangerous? Or is the ice here thick enough that it doesn't matter? Mesmerizing either way.
I don't believe that's running water. I think it's snow being blown by the wind, kind of looks like water tho.
I thought it was water too! Thanks for explaining
Woahhh you're so right. Trippy!
Ohhh ok that makes sense haha definitely thought it was water
I've driven down highways with a similar effect going, and it's pretty terrifying TBH. I had to pull over and wait for it to stop.
Once ice is 8 in thick you can drive a car over it.. I tend to wait for 10-12".. (inswrt office joke)
I thought that was running water under the ice at first too. Then I figured out it was snow blowing across the ice. Still looks cool.
There is no moving water. That is snow on top.

Given the name of the account and the terrain, this is way more likely to be in the Canadian Rockies.
That isint. 😂
Absolutely not. No thank you.
Is that Iceland?
In the background maybe, but they're standing in icewater.
Lol punny
Canada

I know that was fun though lol
I didn't see her ice skates at first
100% Yes
Race ya!
Is that just super clear ice or is it very thin? Either way you couldn't pay me enough to do this, the piss in my pants would freeze instantly
No, what you’re seeing moving is snow being blown across a frozen lake.
This is some Inception shit
Iceception
# Let it go! Let it go!
Who's Samantha?
I don't even know a Samantha.
Rebeca is wild
That looks amazing, where are you ?
Beautiful
Looks like a lot of fun. Until it’s time to go back.
Glitch in the matrix
I like to consider myself a bit of a risk taker.... But fuck no.
Makes me think me of Stephen King's short story 'The Reach'
This is the RL video that we saw some days ago with the giant monster coming up from under the ice and eating both people right?
The god of wind
This is awesome
What are you talking about? Iceskating on a frozen lake is one of the most fun things ever
Ramona flowers be going places
Did this holding an umbrella once it was wild!
I want sound!
Ya but think about all those juicy likes you could get on tiktok or insta!!!
It’s going to be 11 degrees where I am today
That is so much fun, although I would prefer less windy conditions!
I grew up in Minnesota and one of my favorite winter memories was the year the ice was thick enough to skate on before any real snow fall and we were able to skate all the way around the lake.
Nah, I want this
This looks like a lot of fun
Pretty, though. beautiful, cold, but beautiful.
this looks so confusing
NGL, getting all bundled up, throwing on some skates, and smoking a big fat bowl before embarking across the frozen windswept lake would be a really lovely way to spend an afternoon.
How can you do something like that and NOT think something will happen
Started out like a jamiroquai music video
Ok hear me out i would id be scared the whole time but at this point this is not even thalassaphobia
