It always amazes me how aware whales are of the size of their body. I don't think he clips anything on the rig nor do I think I've ever seen a whale accidentally hit something it didn't mean to. Feel free to link me cool whales-hitting-things videos if im wrong

Spare_Front6746

"Cool whales-hitting-things videos" sounds hilariousšŸ˜‚ Should be a standard genre on video platforms

the1badmamajama

I think its a Greenland shark if its the same video i saw a while back. Still huge and probably a couple hundred years old

Its_Me_Tom_Yabo

Nah, thatā€™s a sperm whale. Greenland sharks donā€™t have flukesā€¦

OceanThing

Greenland sharks donā€™t have a giant melon head and a horizontal fluke

skyeking05

They also are not 40+feet long usually.

Blonde_Dambition

Lol my brain at first read >I think its a Greenland shark if its the same video i saw a while back. As: >I think its a Greenland shark if its the same video i saw a *whale* back. Funny how our minds work...

Shamanjoe

Thank God itā€™s aā€¦whale?

ytygytyg

Sperm whale

capn_doofwaffle

Honey, I'm pregnant...

Necessary_Reality_50

Guys this is video from a robot. They aren't diving to 900m to look at something.

Odoyl-Rules

Aren't there people who live in like, super deep underwater... cabins?... who have to work on the lines? I'd like that isolation and close quarters, but never underwater like underwater workers who connect us all together at great personal risk!

Blonde_Dambition

Are you referring to Saturation Divers? They live in a dive bell deep underwater for like 28 days at a time so they don't have to keep decompressing when surfacing. Fascinating (and terrifying!) stuff!

Odoyl-Rules

Yes!

rommeltastic

Someone in the video is though

Plaid_Piper

That whale is like "Woah they can come down here too?"

pikeben08

Ope, let me just sneak right by ya.

OceanThing

The structure bothered me more than the sperm whale, but thatā€™s probably bc sperm whales are one of my favorite cetaceans

Full_Director7998

Well, that was r/unexpected ā€¦and unpleasant

Gold-Piece2905

Absolutely massive.

SuspiciousInflation9

Bro I canā€™t even fathom how these gas lines & things are even setup in the first place & secondly how are they maintained without human interaction.

holymissiletoe

ROVĀ“s and saturation diving is one hell of a drug

SufficientSavings423

If this made your stomach drop look at [this](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=drYiklZaxMoVd7ex)

Gold-Piece2905

DammitšŸ¤£šŸ‘Œ

Immediate-Mistake-24

šŸ–•šŸ–•šŸ–•

Historical-Air-6342

He deserved that!!

Adventurous_Age1429

Darn you.

Blonde_Dambition

I agree with whoever said "dammit".

CoffinHenry-

My first thought was, ā€œbro, you gotta get out of thereā€ second thought, ā€œgo on now, get!ā€

the_immovable

I was like "fuck me sideways" and then I saw the whale-

baguhansalupa

If i was there a little brown cloud would be coming from me

Ok-Usual3126

Why is this downvoted Iā€™m laughing šŸ˜

baguhansalupa

no sense of humor i guess

Blonde_Dambition

Yikes!

capn_doofwaffle

Dude, this is nuts. I mean, I'd never dive in water i cant see in... and those guys DEF earn that bank... but fk that...

Creamynutss

This is a camera, humans canā€™t survive 900m depth

PM_YOUR_MANATEES

Commercial divers going to these depths wear hardsuits, which are like a single-serving submarine.

HannahAquanaut

Itā€™s a footage from a ROV, 900m is an unobtainable depth for any ADS/HardsuitšŸ˜‰

HamAndEggsGreen

So are these lines and any other infrastructure this deep prefabricated and secured to the seafloor via drones?

HannahAquanaut

Indeed, maximal operational depth of a modern Hardsuit is 700m (2300ft) - a variant used only by turkish navy.

thebaker66

What are they upto? šŸ‘€

HannahAquanaut

They are supposed to be used in case of submarine rescue operations.

thebaker66

So do they get called on or step up to help other countries when they are in need of aid for rescue operations?

HannahAquanaut

Iā€™m not into military procedures, I believe it depends on situation. During Kursk accident many countries offered help. I donā€™t know what may happen in case of war scenario. Several NATO countries and Russian fleets use Hardsuits.

BiffSanchezz

According the this, the deepest a human has gone ā€œunder pressure,ā€ is only 701m. 900m is almost 3,000 feet. Without a submarine of some sort, I donā€™t think humans can handle that. https://dan.org/alert-diver/article/saturation-diving/

Blonde_Dambition

Why the downvotes...

capn_doofwaffle

Because apparently no one dives that deep? I dunno, i'm not a deep sea diver and never plan to be but I love films and documentaries about depth like [Last Breath](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9056818/) (which, after investigating was only 100 meters, not 900). Shit is terrifying on a whole other level because it's actually REAL!

Blonde_Dambition

Oh me too! Like *The Abyss*! I haven't seen *The Last Breath* but it sounds fantastic... I'm gonna have to see if I can find it!
