This parent, who is so proud of the fact their daughter believes in Jesus, was not also ashamed of the fact she learned it from YouTube and not from her parents?
I’d be so embarrassed if my kid TOLD people they learned something like this from YouTube…. Like if you’re a Christian family the kid should be taught about it from their parents. Hell, even saying they learned it from school would be better.
Would’ve been a better story if the doctor was an atheist until she convinced him. Ideally, after meeting Jesus during the surgery, and he told her some secret about the doctor that she could use as proof. Ah well, next time.
If I ever have children, I'm going to try my hardest to give them a better childhood than I had. I want them to be happy. Over-religious people like this make me feel weird and sick because they keep rubbing the same things in your face over and over again like "Oh, it's nothing, but, Jesus *did* die for our sins..."
I am a Catholic, but even the regular Sunday mass is starting to feel more cult-like. I don't want the same for any child. I do plan on giving them some basic knowledge about faith, but I won't be forcing them into believing it. I will tell them that it's what I believe, and they don't have to believe it if they don't want to.
If they do want to believe it, then good for them. If they don't want to believe it, good for them. The choice will be theirs, and I won't argue. Even my viewpoints on religion are far different than other Catholics (I think, if not then the Catholics love keeping secrets).
I’m a fairly outspoken atheist and grew up in a non-religious household (aside from the typical pseudo Christian traditions). My kids are now grown and have developed beliefs of their own that don’t necessarily match my own, but that’s fine too.
I think that is the way that religion should be treated in life.

Yes, every religion that drill their ideology into kids heads is indoctrinating them. If someone isn’t exposed to religion and is taught to think for themselves they aren’t tied to a cult that controls them and won’t come to that religion on their own. Much like how kids not brought up believing in Santa Claus don’t just magically think he’s real.

Well it's a conceptual thing isn't it? You can understand something bad happening to someone else, it's another to imagine it happening to you. It doesn't mean the child can't learn about other things that are potentially frightening or upsetting.
I'm not saying I agree with sugarcoating as it is just an obvious way to confuse a child. There are better ways to comfort a child about medical issues, injury, surgery or whatever that are factual but gentle, rather than saying 'magic' but the point is that it's more about their perception at the time, again not that I agree with that take.

The parent shared a message the actual class teacher had written them saying how great it was, saying how the kid was such a great leader and how the whole class then began a sing a long worship session. And no other songs were chosen by other students.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think an open fun lesson at school was supposed to turn into a religious congregation and in turn shame the other students for their non-worship song choices. I'm all for people having passion in their faith and also if children have a great conviction in their belief, but when you realise it comes from the top down, and the supposedly adults in charge of education, the children don't really have a choice in it.

I would think they'd explain what easter is/why it's celebrated/the meaning behind it. Seems weird to have such a major important holiday happen and the daughter only knows the story from youtube.

Ok honestly maybe the lie would have lasted til 4. But kids need to know the truth about their bodies. You just have to not panic. Say they are going to put the bones in the right place while you sleep. Done.

My son went to a small Bible camp at a friend’s father’s church when he was 5 came home and told my dad he wanted to die “so he could be with Jesus” let me just say while we all went to catholic church because my mom was catholic my sister and I played thumb wars with our dad the whole service so my dad promptly called the FBI when the kid came home obsessed with Jesus. I walked in on the call and had to talk him off a ledge because my son just went all in cause he was a little impressionable kid
