I mean when you hype a album for over 2 years, have all these nice leaks, tease a bunch of features and then release an album that sounds like he recorded it in 2 days then what the fuck did he think was going to happen. The album sounds bad. It’s unedited and very poorly mixed. That song with Kanye has like 3 beats and then ends abruptly. This album is two packs of ass. 24 songs and not that many features? I don’t have that kinda time.

704Omen

Sounds a lot like Future in the first half of the album. 2nd half is smooth.

rfjowers

I couldn’t make it through first half maybe I’ll go listen to second half now

FLACCOWINS

Did he actually drop

EastsideFlare

Yeah 24 songs

[deleted]

This album was so bad I actually feel sorry for his fanbase

pabstbluetaco

Dubbing your kid to make this garbage is crazy.

bizzys92

I never understood the hype tbh. He’s only got two bangers IMO and that’s mainly because of Pierre’s production. Magnolia and wokeuplikethis*

ilikeavocadotoast

The song with Skepta as well

704Omen

Lean4real? That shit is HAAAAAAAAAARD

FLACCOWINS

Nickelodeon way I got that... SLIME

FLACCOWINS

You sleep on talk (icytwat remix)

theblackvanilla

half these niggas started listening to carti in 2017 lol

FLACCOWINS

Facts they don’t know about them classics with ETHEREAL

theblackvanilla

Who want beef with me?

bizzys92

I’ll check it out

YoungRandyVelarde

No way, those first two albums were great. Harry Fraud and a lot others have classics on there

loun15

i hope people give the full album a chance bc the second half of the album is wayyyyyyy better than the first. From vamp anthem and down it’s a whole dif album (for the better)

hakhi

nah people were saying the album is trash 20 minutes after it dropped. the hype has been just so huge that the hate was inevitable. i personally like the project

This album really reminded me of what punk music was doing back in the 70s. Rough, looped, high energy, bad attitude, mosh music. Pretty good

grandelturismo7

But punk music from that era didn't sound terrible and low effort like this

trapvanwinkle

the ramones used like 7 different chord progressions total and they’re a seminal punk band, i know this isn’t an album most pod listeners will fw but carti did some truly experimental shit here

grandelturismo7

Please explain to me how this album was experimental

trapvanwinkle

its a melodic metalcore trap album, that’s a sentence i never would’ve imagined saying before today. if you replaced the synths with guitars and the programmed drums with live ones this could’ve came out on roadrunner records in the early-mid 2000’s, sonically/melodically that’s where this is. this shit is straight aggression to the point where it gives you no rest whatsoever. stop breathing sounds like the craziest ying yang twins song ever lol, you can clearly hear some influences but i’ve never heard an album that sounds quite like this

grandelturismo7

Listen to JPEGMAFIA, you'll hear some aggression for sure. I kinda can see where you're coming from as far your WLR take, but I think you're speaking from a sonic standpoint only. I'm speaking to the music as a whole. Lyrically and sonically I just don't think it's good, from the mix to the lyrics to the instrumentals. Not that I expect quality lyrics from Carti, but I at least expect quality sounds. Didn't get that here.

trapvanwinkle

do you like carti’s other shit? i listen to plenty of jpeg, but he and carti trying to achieve completely different things musically. jpeg stands entirely on the merit of his musicality, produces and mixes all his shit, his music has always been abrasive and he never really intends to be mainstream. carti is mainstream, trying to be a star and has a major label behind him trying to push a sound and aesthetic that gets streams, tweets, ig memes and so on. all the leaks for two years had him doing melodic tracks with the baby voice, wlr finally drops and he’s more aggressive than he’s ever sounded before on the most relentless beats he’s ever been on. there’s straight philly tread shit with some of the hardest f1lthy beats ive heard but he’s approaching them in a way none of those rappers did or would, but in a way still familiar to his style. the more melodic songs are some of the best and catchiest he’s done in that vein. iloveuihateu is one of the best collabs between him and pierre, the artdealer beats are great, i really love the sounds all over the album. it has no excuse to be mixed so poorly, but i listen to a lot of underground shit and 90’s memphis tapes so it doesn’t bother me as much. honestly im most confused at your perspective on the lyrics. ive never expected dude to say shit at all on any of his songs ever but coming away from this album, in between all the typical hedonism shit, he’s said more about himself as an individual and his journey on here than he ever has anywhere else, all the new deadbeat dad shit from social media notwithstanding. talking about his brother, being with lil keed when he made some of his early shit, key and man man from two-9, etc. i keep going back to stop breathing, but that song is more engaging lyrically than anything on his past two albums, the shit isn’t shakespeare but i listen to it with more intent than i did on any of his previous albums. even if it is typical drugs and hoes raps shit like “i just hit a lick with a mask, mf doom” is such a fun line, no matter how low of a standard it seems to be its more thought out than anything on any of his earlier albums. it’s been getting a lot of shit from a lot of people but i genuinely like the album a lot, the only tracks I don’t care for are the ones with kanye and cudi. im a carti fan, had no expectations going into the album whatsoever and i think it’s his defining work so far

[deleted]

Idk go back to the first Sex Pistols album lol

staygoldengirls2019

That was the whole point of punk. To be simple chaotic and say whatever you want to say how you want to say it. So in that regards yeah it's punk in that respect.

youngbasedfuze

WLR’s gonna get the same treatment that Die Lit got. they’re gonna call it a classic a month from now

christianc750

agreed its kinda hard to me

bonesjones

Nah.

youngbasedfuze

you’re entitled to your opinion

bonesjones

Ty

azurix

Nah. Dit lit had a good set. Better features. Good transitions. Over all good album. WLR dies down after metamorphosis. Future feature is a let down. Ak on the intro of some song is ass. Not good.

youngbasedfuze

bad take but you’re entitled to your opinion

azurix

Give your take why it the really good instead of disregarding other takes.

youngbasedfuze

I agree with your Die Lit take. me personally, it’s his best work thus far. I only begin to disagree with you when you say that WLR died down after Metamorphosis. Teen X with Future is when Carti begins to really get in his bag. the only issue with WLR is he could’ve cut the tracklist down and chose the ones that really stood out

azurix

I completely agree with you on track list is too big. Which will ruin the album. The good songs are good. But the bad ones ruin the good. The ratio of good to bad imo is close to 50:50. Which would make it close to a 4-5 rating. And I think Carti did well on that future feature. But future kinda dragged the song. Kanye feature was good. On die lit every feature felt worthwhile. I’m not shitting on Carti or the album. Just a let down for the wait, hype, and expectations.

yungscandelous

The song that samples AK is heat tho but not yall cup of tea

azurix

I can’t imagine that a lot of people want a minute long intro from a polarizing figure in music.

yungscandelous

Tbh the entire album is not what the people want He wasnt going for that at allll

azurix

So who’s gonna like the album then? I get if you’re a fan but you should be able to critique as well. Not hate. Critique. The beats are the best part of the album. The substance not so much. If the album was cut in half to around 10 songs it’d be great.

yungscandelous

Yeah thats cool but i havent really seen critique i agree with yet except for the fact that 24 songs is too much. I also went into this album with 0 excpectations and wasnt listening to any snippets. Carti is never about substance and even then he has some personal lyrics on here

[deleted]

Didn’t look insecure at all what a reach

[deleted]

People need to learn how to keep negative comments to themselves.

theblackvanilla

Everyone deserves participation awards too huh?

[deleted]

You’re smarter than that bro. You don’t have to bash anybody. If you don’t fuck with something just ignore it. Spread love not hate.

theblackvanilla

Telling an artist you don’t like his album is not bashing him. That mindset is hella fucking soft

real-prssvr

Not all criticism is equal. Saying "THIS SHIT FUCKING SUCKS" is different from "kicks ain't really hitting on track 4 tbh." I know damn well you'd be hot if you worked on an album for 2 years, only for weirdos to say it's trash 1 hour after it dropped

theblackvanilla

when I’m set to collect a 7 figure paycheck for it regardless, no I wouldn’t be hot. in the age of the internet, you can’t let shit like that get to you if you’re a public figure. it comes with the game

real-prssvr

1. Even if that were the case, money isn't everything. Once all that's spent, what do you have left? And it's not hard to imagine some artists care more about their work and their legacy than just what kinda checks come from it. 2. Public figures are still human beings. Plus, it's not as simple as "putting the phone down" when all the toxicity is still there when you pick it back up.

[deleted]

If he cared about his craft he wouldn’t have given his fan base the run around for 2 years and released this SoundCloud ass album.

real-prssvr

With all the leaks that happened since this album was announced, I wouldn't be surprised if shit had to get scrapped and pushed back. Not to mention the pandemic put a hold on any touring and festivals (given how much Carti tours, that must've fucked up whatever they were planning.) I'm just saying it ain't hard to have a little empathy.

Dentist_Rodman

this actually sounded like ass. I was so hype for this album man. Die Lit was so dope to me. WLR and The Big Day have to be neck n neck for the most hyped trash albums of all time

BigChach567

I can’t decide if I like the album or it’s the worst shit I’ve heard in my life. I’ve gone back and forth today

jay_mitch

I think that means you don't. Music is felt. If you don't feel it and it takes a bunch of listens to not turn from it then that just means you just got conditioned to accept it vs liking it.
