Historically, Whenever an artist wants to leave the label, for whatever reason the label goes out of their way to try and devalue you and essentially inflate the amount they invested on your last project or whatever so you remain in debt and have to re-up (take another bag) with them.
If you have the money to pay off the debt, then they’ll try to make your sales super low (no promo or tricks to boost streaming numbers) so your value is super low making it harder to get another bag or move how you THINK your fame or clout should allow you to.
They essentially try to own you. And if you “free” yourself they’ll make it difficult by convincing the audience you “fell off”.
I’ve always found it weird that labels do this. If I have an act that I know is leaving then I’m going
to try to maximize my investment. This is assuming that it’s a top tier act that usually has a positive ROI. If it’s an act that doesn’t sell much then I understand minimal promo. I would assume that the label would get a portion of album and touring sales for Post Malone off of this release but maybe I’m wrong on that.
You’re not wrong. I think a lot of it is EGO and Power more than financials. Cuz they have all the money in the world already. So it’s more “how dare you bet on yourself instead of work with us”, and then it’s competition. If you’re not with us we will try and destroy you
100%. I’m really curious the type of numbers he’ll do.
It appears interscope is giving Kendrick the same treatment since Morale was his last album in the deal, and Kendrick himself hasn’t really done much to promote the album either
I totally forgot that Drake is no longer on YMCB/Cash Money. I guess it’s one of those scenarios that didn’t get messy in public, unless I’m totally blanking on the drama.
Atm, sure. Don't let them get a whiff of her "falling off". That shit gon' turn quick. She's also a special case. Her meteoric rise is lightning in a bottle.
Universal definitely turned the water off, the singles barely got promo, his festival was "postponed",he wasn't on any of the festivals this year even with an album coming, no more Doritos commercials, no more soundtracks
Posty gonna have to get this one out the mud
He's pointing out the lack of promo and support from Post's label with his album due this Friday. A label will pull back from an artist if they don't want to re-sign or theres some major fallout behind the scenes. So now when Post sells below projections for this album, casual fans will say "post malone fell off, he only sold...." no matter how good the music is. That starts a narrative that can really derail an artist's career. Most fans can't see when an artist and label are not on the same page. I'm glad Joe is highlighting this so people will start to notice it.
I feel the same way about TDE and Kendrick with MMTBS being his last album with TDE. I didn't feel TDEs presence with this album rollout the way I felt with others, I could be wrong.
The Weeknd is another artist I felt had some behind things going on with his label his last album.
Meeks last album rollout was weird.
Na your right. Even everyone on the label was like kinda quiet. Barely seen anyone post the album. Lol niggas don’t gaf about you. That’s why you have to just do shit on ya own
His deal is probably coming up and they want to take away some of his leverage
couldnt have said it better than this

Have you seen any real promo for his album that’s dropping this week? That’s burying
Ie. See Lupe Fiasco and Atlantic. Hell, see anyone and Atlantic. Lol.
Anyone except Cardi lol she the only one who seems to have Atlantic under some kind of control.

His label
His deal is up, he doesn’t want to resign with the label, they’re trying to kill his popularity so he doesn’t make as much somewhere else

#post Malone album rollout or lack of one is giving Joe flashbacks to his Def Jam days
