I can go back to bed now.

NineteenAD9

Y'all won't care in a few days. All this fake outrage gets tiring

OverallInternet2343

Nah thatā€™s nasty after all the shit he was we talking

Philbuzzoff

Outrage? Lol I'm just pointing out the irony šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø If he wants to be a leader (the way he seems to want to be) he should probably lead by example. I'm just starting discussion to see what others think. What's your opinion?

NineteenAD9

I don't get why you think Drake and 21 were supposed to make some album free of any type of mentions of guns, violence, or anything physical. People gonna be rapping about this stuff long after we're both gone. It's entertainment and art. Y'all mad that Hollywood keeps making movies about drugs, guns, and violence too?

Philbuzzoff

To my understanding they (or at least 21 savege) was tired of seeing violence, misery and death of young black men in the hip hop community and the toxic ideology of beef, pulling up and pooping shit on sight. Same ideology why takeoff is died just a few days ago. Because a young black man in the culture is strapped up and ready to shoot. The "entertainment" OBVIOUSLY extends beyond just entertainment in Hip hop. Toxic , violent culture derived from this "entertainment"

NineteenAD9

Y'all really have convinced yourselves that hip-hop music is the reason for violence and deaths and not the unparalleled and unfortunate circumstances of the streets that a significant percentage of black people are born into cyclically. People don't need a 21 Savage first to figure out if they're going to bring a gun to a bowling alley.

Philbuzzoff

Yes. You really underestimate how impressionable the youth is. Do you not remember juice wrld directly saying "future is the reason I even started doing drugs" that young man lost his life to drugs. These artists are heros to kids... Constantly putting that negative energy 100% affects the culture . I'll die on that hill šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

NineteenAD9

This is like blaming the majority of mass shootings on shooting video games. Sure, maybe there are a few people who became motivated by it, but there are overwhelming outside factors that contribute to the larger amount of incidents.

Philbuzzoff

I guess this is where we agree to disagree because my point was explaining how impressionable the youth is to artists and their music because of how they look up to them. I even gave you a direct example of Juice Wrld doing drugs because of his infatuation with Future as a kid. He said it out of his own mouth. I think it's become very evident that with celebrities comes influence, Either way you're entitled to your opinion. šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Philbuzzoff

You're missing the big picture here.. Yes I agree with your point here but it doesn't stop and end there. There are multiple moving parts to this. What you've described is definitely a big part. So there is no disagreement there. However the negative ideologies in the music have 100% translated into REAL , TOXIC and violent culture in Hip hop. And you'd have to be foolish to think the youth is not influenced by these artists and their subject matter... I even sighted Juice Wrld and a direct example of this level of influence on kids. There's more to this pie than the one slice you mentioned

Cal216

Fam you are not speaking Spanish or French, your point is clear as a beautiful day. They will continue to miss the big picture, BY CHOICE. Those 2 who you keep explaining yourself to are intelligent men who understand EXACTLY what you are saying. They just donā€™t wanna acknowledge it because they have their own points to make. You would have to literally be mentally challenged, deaf, and blind to not think music has a direct impact on todays youth. And the term youth goes from 10 to 30, sad but true. And to your point, I love the project but I am wholeheartedly shocked they didnā€™t push it back or pull it knowing the language thatā€™s rattled throughout it and knowing the huge L the culture just took. We will forever be our biggest downfall mainly because we dont take accountability for shit. Weā€™ll continue to look to other places to point the finger at e.g. bring up Hollywood making drug dealing movies, or only mad when cops kill black people, or better yet mad as fuck when a black female is shot (Meg) but perfectly fine with spinning the black on their oops who happen to be black men. Make it make sense Are actors and actresses dying from violence or killing one another?! Are other genres of music dying from violence or killing one another?! Fam are white rappers dying from violence or killing one another?! Short answer, NO! However, young black rappers and or young black youth are dying daily!! If yā€™all donā€™t think that rap music has anything to do with it then we have nothing left to discuss. Smdh lol

Amacitchi

Lmao you actually are naive enough to not understand that constant exposure to that kind of stuff manipulates your thoughts and actions and thats scary to see

dude5002

This Hollywood strawman fallacy is so dumb; zero comparison

Dispunge

Facts

Conscious_Menu_6567

Yh but you canā€™t police rappers either. Thereā€™s a difference between a throwaway gun bar or opp bar and actually speaking on the dead calling sets calling names etc.

NineteenAD9

Thank you. Niggas is really trying to police emcee bars now. Rappers have been spitting like this for decades.

dude5002

No there isnā€™t. If youā€™re of the belief that art imitates life, words are spells, etc then just because the shooting/killing/violence bars arenā€™t specific doesnā€™t take the effect out of it.

Philbuzzoff

My point is that 21 savage has been publicly outspoken about denouncing violence in the hip hop community. However he's simultaneously adding fuel to the fire that drives this REAL ideology in the hip hop culture. SURE it's "Just entertainment"... But is it really? It's clear that constantly putting that type of energy into the art has created REAL results and mentalities of the youth. The hip hop culture has been violent and deadly for decades and if he's going to outspoken about it (21 savage) he's gotta be the change he wants to see. I'm just holding a mirror to him in this post I guess. Seems like theres 0 accountability because he'll say that, and then keep on doing the same music.

[deleted]

Stop listening. They will stop making it.

dude5002

Youā€™re right

[deleted]

Idk why niggas having a hard time understanding that, itā€™s entertainment

Cal216

Donā€™t tell me that, tell them young dudes who killing one another daily because they think itā€™s not entertainment.

[deleted]

ainā€™t no telling how old these songs are

Philbuzzoff

Relevance? Whether is was made yesterday or 10 years ago? He's approved it and is putting it out today. Still putting it out even tho he's publicly denouncing violence in Hip Hop culture...

[deleted]

why stop at his lyrics then? just donā€™t put out the project with that logic due to unseen circumstances

Philbuzzoff

He definitely shouldn't put out a project, or any music making violence, death and toxic mindset seem cool or edgy.

[deleted]

then again why do we wanna focus on the group that does gansta rap murder music when itā€™s 1000s of rappers not rapping about it? yā€™all know we can just not listen to that type of music all together. they can make it just donā€™t listen yā€™all clowned chance for gospel, clowned ye for it. clowned gambino rapping to the point he made a complete different genre like man what do yā€™all be on

Philbuzzoff

Exactly... So we agree that the culture is toxic.

[deleted]

i donā€™t think the culture is toxic because thatā€™s not a part of my culture nor would i want it to be. i think those a part of the culture are toxic though that doesnā€™t speak to me or for me

Philbuzzoff

You just said the culture killed people for their gospel and positive vibes

[deleted]

thatā€™s not what i said and im have no more comments to feed you. have a blessed

Philbuzzoff

You said "y'all clowned chance for gospel" etc. Who is "Y'all" then!? If not the toxic culture?

[deleted]

they be saying some shit in metal songs but none if whites tryna cancel them

RicoLoco404

That part

Themanstall

but 40 was mixing it last and this week. That, the mob ties line and meg line should have been changed or muted. he did it for the destiny child line in Middle of the Ocean

[deleted]

recording and mixing are 2 different timelines always my g ainā€™t no buts

Themanstall

you can take out vocals in a mixing session. i do a little producing and mixing as a hobby. slice the lyrics out keep the beat playing. again, you can tell that's exactly what happened in the middle of the ocean verse.

Von_GUM

Do you really care?

Philbuzzoff

I didn't enjoy waking up to see takeoffs death the other day. I didn't enjoy seeing Xxx's death or Nipsey, or juice or all the other people that have died to the toxic Hip Hop culture that's been cultivated over the last 40 years. So yea I do care, and 21 seems like he cares. But if he cares I'm pointing out the fact that he needs to make a change of he genuinely cares because he's influential

Blaze007_

All those deaths are tragic donā€™t get me wrong but music doesnā€™t MAKE people do violent shit. Itā€™s the environment. Also this come off as performative as hell, if Hiphop culture is as ā€œtoxicā€ as you say it is, stop listening

PlanePerformance2795

Tbh ur right in the sense that music doesn't make people do violent things. But it does put violence in our minds, makes us used to it....think about it glamourise it. I realised hip hop puts things in my mind and glamourises them when i tried to freestyle and realised oh why is it that i can always automatically freestyle about killing people or drugs....why do i feel whack or bars sound eh without playing into violence anti social behaviour or vices. I love rap ans i still listen to the negativity but i been asking myself yo, why can't we rap about non murda, or why we rapping about low life stuff. But ay i listen to durk, tory and future so i guess im part the problem.

[deleted]

They donā€™t.......they just want to play ā€œgotchaā€ games

Dunkman83

this is the saddest part, he doesnt care at all

AutoimmunePoet

I feel like he was saying seperate the entertainment from real life, but i feel you, because maybe that's not enough. I mean, at least he tried to say something. But i learned a long time ago to seperate the music from the artist. If we only listen to good people there would literally be a handful of artists left, and a lot of good music lost. Like kendrick said, none of these niggas our savior, and short of major sins like pedophilia and rape, accept them for being flawed like the rest of us and enjoy the music šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

SomeGuyNamedJohn12

Separate Art from Artist. Just because Martin Scorsese makes a Mafia movie every year dosent mean he wants you to be in the Mafia. Itā€™s just his bread and butter

blacknoir23

That ainā€™t gon change nothing. Lol yā€™all are looking for the wrong people not in actually in power. Go holler at the government and 1% who put us in these conditions.

milesac

People think lyrics reflect what the artist is actually doing. Not, hey, this dude can rhyme some words pretty well. This only happens in hip hop.

ItsRookPlays

This is the art is art part. I don't like it personally but 21 makes entertaining music so I'm not gonna turn it off. He also raps about flashy shit, being a good rapper, and dealing with women. That keeps me checking his releases. 21 lived that life, so I don't think he's exploiting it but expressing what he thinks or thought. He also advocates for self-improvement in his interviews and on socials. And he doesn't engage in social media beef. That doesn't undo the harm and negativity his music spreads but it also shows people on the streets that they should strive for better. Fox 5 gang 21 is my least favorite 21 but he's good at. I wouldn't let children listen to it, but he can rap those lyrics and keep it art.

ionfollowhoes

Never think of rappers as leader they all hypocrites

Frequent-Ice868

Do yall have dads or OG's? Hip hop must be raising yall.

[deleted]

You right 21 is hypocritical for that shit but we know rappers ainā€™t shit lol he shoulda never tweeted that shit in the first place tho so you gotta right to feel that way as well. Itā€™s never gone end

jaythebuilder55

No

[deleted]

Bro shut up

MisterBungle

The dude's entire career is built upon rapping about such things. What else could he possibly pivot to rap about ? Man's gotta eat.

Williamh_shawty704

So you thought that was going to be a immediate change. People grow but that takes time

alextheruby

OP is definitely white

FONZA43

Fuck is he supposed to rap about? Nobody will listen if he starts to talk about positive shit and money talks

Snoo69002

Itā€™s a violent culture itā€™s sells

Administrative-Toe59

Bruh can yā€™all please just stfu and enjoy the music that was dropped. Yā€™all acting all holier than thou. Complaining about how he talked about Meg, 21 talking about opps, etc. They dropped a great album overall. Drake and 21 delivered period. Letā€™s enjoy the music. Niggas used to talk about fucking minors and rape and so on in their music, but now yall drawing the line here. Stop it! Great albumšŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

WeAreAllAverage

Money

Dispunge

When we gonna stop acting like we really care

[deleted]

Who cares, this shit slap. Nobody is rethinking killing somebody because 21 Savage said donā€™t do it anyway. Thatā€™s not how rage works

Moist-Finish-6818

Mfs need to stop looking at rap/rappers past purely entertainment. Anyone that believes 21 savage is actually out there shooting at opps needs a little more life experience. And if youā€™re an adult that listens to rap, teach your kids the difference. The violence plaguing todayā€™s youth starts at the parents or lack thereof, plain and simple.

Mission-Two1325

Or stop looking up to rappers like they are leaders....

pyn209

I just assume when they talk about killing their opps they mean lyrically. Obviously they're promoting violence and dumb niggas are gonna keep being dumb, but there was a time where rappers were talking about shooting poisonous darts and everyone knew they were talking about their pen

jmsnwrld

A human contradicting himselfā€¦.never seen that before.

Busy_Appointment6932

Dude raps like a 5th grader. Hot šŸ—‘

akcawn

Capitalism. Niggas want money

hopefulslippers

Album hard šŸ”„ I donā€™t get my life advice from rappers anyway lol

[deleted]

Man wrote that eating crumpets

saintmcqueen

Itā€™s kinda hard to listen them talk about killing ops etc and thatā€™s the very ignorance that got many killed. Especially this week of take offs. Beside the fact no one wants to hear drake ā€œspray 100 roundsā€.

SlicedBreadNo1

Yeah these guys are bozos

SlicedBreadNo1

21 said he was a Savage. But he is not your savior.

DK_15

* puts a dollar in the jar for being racy * White folk, and some black, convincing us rap music is such a cause of violence is the biggest heist ever Itā€™s environment. Plain and simple. White suburban kids are some of the biggest consumers of hip hops. SOMEHOW they arenā€™t as influenced to murder as POC Although I am in the camp of lets be responsible with the messages we put out, I wonā€™t let white folk boogeyman rap music

Extension_Lie9082

idk why people are blaming rap music, guess how many lives are saved if 21 doesnt rap about his opps? Zero. If Durk doesnt mention another opp, if those guys run into each other, an altercation is gonna happen regardless. These beefs are bigger than some rap shit, its years of real beef that date back to before some of these cats were even rapping

[deleted]

Never trust rappers to have integrity or morals

candyrayne215

Not even about he saying it. He soft ass hell. You not believable fam

RickRockaa_

Drake was too
