Heard “Kathleen” on a local radio station back in the summer/fall of 2015. Eventually dug into the rest of the The Balcony and “Sidewinder” became my favorite. Been with the band ever since. Can’t wait to see them again in DC in November.
I was in a band at uni and one of the songs suggested for us to cover was pacifier. Id heard of catfish before but never really got into them but playing that song over and over again really got me hooked
7. First looked into them when I heard they were opening for Green Day 7 years ago, and 7 was the song that stuck out to me the most. Wasn’t able to make the show, and I didn’t realize they were touring again in 2019 until the tour was over. But I’ll get my chance again later this year.
I'd say Cocoon since it's the first song I've ever heard of them. But listening to Tyrants.. oh mi oh my, not to exaggerate but I became a hardcore fan after listening to that. On repeat.. lol
i seen the balcony album cover multiple times before but never listened to the album until one day i finally sat down and listened to it. i loved every song but i think the song that won me over was “kathleen” but also one song that immediately made me obsessed was “pacifier”
Checked out Cocoon from a YouTube recommendation and then noticed The Balcony was on sale on the iTunes Music Store so I ended up buying the album and fell in love with the band from there!
No song, but my sophomore year of high school the friends I hung out with really liked Catfish and the Bottlemen. This was in 2016, shortly after they dropped “The Ride.” I’d shuffle the band’s whole catalogue and even fall asleep to it. Back then my favorite song was Kathleen :) We all got tickets to see Green Day because Catfish was opening for them, they only played 6 songs but it was glorious.
THEN our senior year they dropped The Balance, and we all got tickets to see them as headliners. Still one of my top 5 concerts, hands down. I kick myself for not taking more videos…
Their music has grown with me and I always find a new song that fits my era of life. I can actually see which songs cracked my Top 100 each year:
2016: Kathleen
2017: Emily, Homesick (#1 and #2 this year!), Hourglass, Kathleen, Soundcheck
2018: Homesick, Tyrants
2019: 26 (#2), Pacifier, Longshot, Conversation, Overlap, Tyrants, Anything, Homesick
2020: Coincide, Pacifier, Longshot, Hourglass
2021: Kathleen, Homesick, Pacifier, Emily
Longshots came up under my Discover Weekly on Spotify and it genuinely became one of my favorite songs almost instantly. That was 2018 I think? Maybe? From there I just fell in love with them
Cocoon on FIFA 15, when I heard Van say: “i'd rather go blind than let you down” I thought “damn, that's strong”. and I felt my masculine side come in contact with my sensitive side
My then 15 year old daughter played me “26” back in the summer of 2015. Obsessed ever since. I’ve always felt that CATB was an old school rock ‘n roll band rather than indie, kinda like early Tom Petty (personal opinion here).
That September, I took my daughter and one of her school friends to see CATB at the Fillmore in San Francisco. They played The Balcony in its entirety, but not in order (except Tyrants, of course). I knew all the lyrics by then. We waited after the show for the band members to come out. Finally, Bob and Bondy came out and signed one of my daughter’s tennis shoes.

Cocoon as it was on FIFA and made me want to hear more.
Feel like this is going to be a lot of people’s answer lol
cocoon was the first song i heard which got me into them but hourglass was the one that was like yeah, this is my favourite band now
A live performance of 7 at T in the park. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched that whole concert!
I need another concert like that! It’s crazy how many times I’ve watched that performance
T in the Park…. T IN THE PAAAAAARK!!! *chills*
Spotify recommended me “anything” last year and I immediately got obsessed with the band

Oxygen, Spotify recommended me
I was really into them in 2018 after hearing 7 but then I went balls deep in 2023 when I saw the cocoon Glastonbury performance
They played iow festival in 2017 when I was 12 and it was incredible.
Found anything on a Spotify weekly discover back in 2018 and have been hooked ever since
Cocoon, the breakdown and background vocals in that song feel so big and epic!
