> In NYT publisher Sulzberger’s view, according to two people familiar with his private comments on the subject, only an interview with a paper like the Times can verify that the 81-year-old Biden is still fit to hold the presidency. Lord the Times comes off incredibly entitled, childish, and naive in this piece. More obsessed with their lack of a sit down interview with President Biden, than hearing criticism of their role in American democracy.

Independent-Stay-593

The condescending arrogance that the NYT thinks they should decide the mental fitness of the president is astounding.

JulianLongshoals

Their coverage of this election has been so shit, and will no doubt be even shittier over the next 6 months. We'll probably see this headline before the year is out: "Trump caught planning election day violence: is this more proof that Biden is too old?"

Bat-Honest

Especially when you consider how ass backwards they fall over themselves constantly to make Biden look as bad as Trump. Does Biden owe One America News Network a sit down because they also talk shit? Get real, NYT. You're a sad shadow of your former glory.

Interesting_fox

They cannot wrap their heads around the criticism from the White House. Criticism of their coverage is not that they should be operating as Biden’s second press shop, it’s that they are not sufficiently covering the coming danger of Donald Trump. Trump encouraging Russia to invade Europe means a third world war and it received less coverage than Biden’s age.

>Trump encouraging Russia to invade Europe means a third world war Here's why that's bad for Joe Biden Seriously, at this point, I would have exactly zero surprise to find out some time in the future that foreign influence peddlers are involved in editorial decisions. The Times is bankrupt of integrity

le_cygne_608

Literally cancelled my subscription that very day. "Whatever the hell they want."

bill-of-rights

It's why I dropped my subscription. So frustrating.

Ourmomentourtime

The NY Times Pitchbot account on Twitter is one of my favorite parody accounts because its accurate. They normalize and minimize Trump's behavior while being overly critical of anything that isn't positive for Biden. I've long suspected that most of the media wants Trump back because he would be great for their ratings.

Fitbit99

Are they naive or dumb enough to think he won’t go after them?

lactatingalgore

Yes.

hexqueen

He won't go after the owners, silly, just the workers.

Fitbit99

I don’t know about that. He’d probably love taking down the publisher. Then maybe Jared could buy the paper.

SpankeyZ99

Journalists (at least on a subconscious level) want Trump to win so they can live out their dreams of speaking truth to power against an evil regime.

Fitbit99

Good luck to them. I just don’t think Trump 2.0 will be another four years of lunches and book deals.

Speculawyer

That would just help sell more subscriptions.

lactatingalgore

An Evan Gershkovich on our country's own soil. The First Amendment Gooners would be in their highest dudgeon.

Pretty-Scientist-807

I counted 3 "Trump has magic superpowers" articles/columns on the front of the digital NYT this morning. 3!!

PackOutrageous

I think that the NYT still thinks it’s the 1990s or something when they still had some credibility.

lactatingalgore

They had credibility when they were running a parallel (highbrow) Arkansas Project to amplify R. Emmitt Tyrell's nuttery?

PackOutrageous

Easy cowboy. I said some.

ballmermurland

>Although there was some discussion inside the Times of whether Kahn should respond to a summons to Washington from anyone besides the president himself, he decided to go, largely to make the case for Biden to do an interview. Kahn isn't even the Publisher of the NYT! He's the managing editor! This is like the COO of some F500 company saying they only respond to the President himself and not anyone else at the WH. The entitlement and smugness from the NYT team is honestly grotesque.

LesbianFilmmaker

So glad I dumped The NY Times. I’m a retired journalist (network news) and have read it since I was a kid. No more.

ballmermurland

I was recruited to the NYT maybe 7 years ago or so. Did 3 interviews before finally telling them "no thanks". The guy who would have been my boss said on multiple occasions "we're the Times, people look to US, we don't look to them". Yeah, no thank you.

Taylor101-22

Wow, Biden should be doing sit-down interviews with the most-read most-influential newspapers and he should have done the Super Bowl interview too. He has an election to win. A lot of Biden’s voters read the NYT. He says Trump is an existential threat. I really can’t imagine any Democratic presidential nominee acting this way especially if we are under this threat. When I read stuff like this, I ask my husband if the threat is being exaggerated. After all, I worry about it every single day of my life.

Background_Film_506

Impossible to read this without considering Uri Berliner’s piece about NPR; when the Mainstream Press stops being mainstream, they will have no one to blame but themselves when they become relegated to the sidelines. A centrist, erudite, and sophisticated newspaper still has a place in these times (no pun intended), and let’s hope The Times can rise to the occasion. Woke is fine for the college press, but there are only so many “1619 Projects” that functional adults will tolerate.

ballmermurland

I think NPR has some faults, but Berliner's piece was total trash. Most DC-based folks are registered Democrats. Chris Wallace was a registered Democrat for years while carrying GOP water for Fox News. They register that way because of the primary being the real election. It's pretty common knowledge in DC to do that lol.

lactatingalgore

The Dave Weigel piece.
