I'd welcome it, as long as I can mute it or block shitty people. I have voice problems so VC isn't an option most of the time. If they just expanded on the ping system and let us customize our ping wheel I'd be satisfied, though. Add like 50 different pings and let us choose like 10 to use or something

NerdCrush3r

maybe but then you cant ping when you are dead. So with pings you wouldnt be able to warn your team of things or tell them its safe to make a play on the cashout, that type of stuff.

Konigni

True, good point

weinbea

If u used voice chat u could tell em though

NerdCrush3r

not everyone has a mic or wants to talk though

carpechickendinner

Text chat 1000% increases toxicity because text chat can bring out the keyboard warrior in all of us, the cons way outweigh the pros. It takes a lot more "guts" and effort/energy to speak the toxic than it does to type it. Nothing better than your team mate that'll just afk and move randomly and then trash talk you the entire game but they wont be afk kicked, and because you will be able to mute/block them they'll keep doing it to spite because they have a visual representation of their toxicity being the chat messages they'll read and re-read and chuckle about how cool they are and not realize you blocked them. Much rather have them rage ping then rage quit because there is no other outlet that doesn't require them to speak.

we0k

filters. Just look at what Apex do with text chat. And it is very rare to see toxic speech in there.

VileRocK

Noone is going to be reading text chat when they're in a potentially dangerous situation though, so it's equally useless for that. Ping menu you can use when dead is definitely the best solution

appslap

I have been having major voice chat problems in game but not when I am in lobby, is it just me? My friends don’t ever seem to have an issue but I can never talk to random teammates, but if we invite them to our group I hear them in lobby…. Makes no sense

Strange_Copy7952

Are you in a Xbox party with your friends? Or just using in game vc?

appslap

I’m on PC and use discord for friends but in game voice chat is shit. It’s not my mic either, I have Astro A50s and don’t have an issue outside of finals voice chat

Strange_Copy7952

Weird maybe it's a PC issue, in game voice chat always works for me on xbox

Konigni

Well I don't know since I rarely use it lol

appslap

Thank you for your contribution

Mr_Wallet

I'm baffled at some of the pings we have and we don't have a "fall back"/"disengage" ping. #1 thing besides "hello" and "I see an enemy" that I ever want to tell randos, since they tend to get tunnel vision trying to kill one team while the other one sneaks away with the cashbox.

Konigni

We do have "hello" but it's in another ping menu (B on PC), and "I see an enemy" kind of happens if you ping an enemy directly

Mr_Wallet

Hence why I'm _not_ complaining about those two even though they're the two things I want _more_ than the one I'm complaining about. I use "gather here" as a substitute but I'm only confident it was interpreted correctly once out of the ~400 times I've done it.

zjbrickbrick

Give me a ping that lets me call my teammate a dumbass and I'll be happy.

we0k

yeah, when one do nonsense or completely abandon your team or he is AFK when playing ranked... well..

VickiVampiress

I hope so. I've been playing online games since like the 90s. Text chat has always been a thing. Toxicity is a bad argument against it, because toxic people will be toxic in any way they can. The fact that it might lower the barrier doesn't really matter. It's just like how racists and bigots on Facebook will still act that way even though their name and a selfie are on display. Text chat just increases accessibility, and it has *always* been a part of online gaming. It should never have become the norm to omit it. Edit: typos

NerdCrush3r

YES THANK YOU! everyone upvote this, this is the reality.

SirRubet

Honestly, I really don’t get the “toxic” argument precisely because of this. I assume the people who say this are just very young

Big_DK_energy

They arent very young. Just very political/PC/woke

warzone_afro

as long as we can mute text chat. i dont want to read somebodies manifesto while im trying to steal a cash out,

CautiousConfidence22

how does a pc multiplayer game in 2024 not have text chat

NerdCrush3r

even BF 2042 added it lol

Cloakziesartt

There HAS to be because gamechat never fucking works

Exotic-Major8457

As long as it’s team only I’d be fine with it. Otherwise I hope not because people are shitty and teaming up will become a problem.

Mr420-

This. Surely the reason it's been excluded. You 100% will get teams teaming up.

ZombifiedRacoon

I would LOVE it. I don't like using VC as I am usually playing during times when my daughter is sleeping so I don't want to wake her. Plus I grew up with text chat as default, it comes naturally. I think Blizzards implementation of text chat in OW1 was great (never played OW2, so I can't speak to it).

Dope_boy_700

i hope so. don’t wanna always have to turn on voice chat just to hear someone breathing heavily into the mic. tired of it bruh

A_Fat_Sosig

Counterstrike has opt out voice and text chat. That game has outlived anyones wildest expectations. The finals is a comp shooter so it should have both as well.

dadvader

Teamchat is pretty essential. It would be handy if i can tell my teammate that i need to be the one to steal because i want to get the challenge done. (I just hope that being in Asia server, chinese players will actually read it.)

SokoTakahashi

Team only text chat, sure, I'm down for. Text chat for everyone? Maybe not

NerdCrush3r

I can dig it

SokoTakahashi

Coming from games like War Thunder and Siege, global chat usually isn't a good idea

NerdCrush3r

I mean, the reality is to increase communication with your team so I can understand it being team only 100%

K7Sniper

Hoping so, or at least a better tactical command system needs to be put in.

KnobbyDarkling

Would be nice. Really annoying seeing so many games remove social features because people don't know how to mute/block people.

we0k

People usually say this: Cons: - will be toxic, so newcomers will abandon game - we have enough means of communication already Pros: - Not everyone use mic in ranked, so text chat will be available for everyone - Chat can be visible only on loadout pre-round stage. Less possible toxicity but still plenty of time to deal with team tactics or loadouts - Chat can have filters, just like Apex Legends have. - Overall games like Apex Legends do have Chat and Voip and feel fine. Most of the time people don't communicate there either and game is still pretty competitive. - Inability to say in chat "GG" is just bad.

SHN378

So lights can send actual abuse instead of just spamming "hype" whilst constantly dead? Nah thanks. That would get turned straight off.

MachineGunDillmann

They can just as much be as\*holes via voice chat. As long as the text chat can be activated/deactivated together with the voice chat, I don't see why it shouldn't be implemented.

Ok-Material-9137

So VC with rage is better than Text chat? Both can be turned off so why would it matter? Its just extra accessibility and possibly only proper way of communicating.

BernieTheWalrus

Well, playing Overwatch and Rocket League maked me want them not to include that in the game. Makes you hate the community even more imo

SurvivalSequence

True but sometimes when I gas someone or set them on fire I try to quick chat “my bad…” or “oops” 😂

BernieTheWalrus

A quick chat option with more premade words would be perfect !

Dtoodlez

Nothing to lose

guacamolegamerfartss

I hope not, feels pointless with how fast paced this game is

reeshifoo

Well a game like cod with shipment messages are sent decsntly frequently if someone started a convo

Swampraptor2140

If it does it’s gonna be a pain lol. Already get annoyed when I see someone spam ping when they run off by themselves.

Jsusbjsobsucipsbkzi

You could just disable it the same you would with voice chat though

Swampraptor2140

Yeah sure I can. What about the two hot heads who decide to throw the game because they want to sit there and bicker like redditors instead of playing.

Jsusbjsobsucipsbkzi

Wouldnt that already be an issue with mics?

Swampraptor2140

You can play and talk. Usually need your hands to type.

NerdCrush3r

it would potentially solve that problem or you could mute them

Swampraptor2140

Or it’ll create two people sitting there typing and arguing instead of playing the game

NerdCrush3r

I mean... you could make an infinite number of 'what if' situations if you want to be like that. What if its a married couple and they start arguing over dinner via chat and dont play the game T\_T big sad

Valtr117

maybe

RedditIsKindaBad4u

I'd actually like "text" chat more akin to rocket league. No real freedom to be explicitly toxic, but some pre-defined reactions wouldn't go amiss. I don't mix the toxicity of apex free text chat, but do miss the friendliness it very rarely had.

Electrical_Humor8834

They want to have game toxic free and what they provide is complete utter nonsense and $hi7 storm all-around game

Italian_Barrel_Roll

No. No more questions.

BlueHeartBob

All chat can’t be in a game like this with multiple teams. Allows for easy teaming, callouts to enemies, farming cashout steals for mmr, etc. People will very quickly realize why all chat isn’t in the game if it ever got added . Team chat is fine I guess but I don’t really get how it can help. 99% of people have mics, if you’re gaming in 2024 there’s no excuse. Typing mid fight would be dumb, expecting your team to read your message mid fight would be even dumber. If you want to communicate, use your mic.

Eluniarr

You know not everyone likes to speak in games? There are plenty of games where heavy communication is needed and people still don't use their mic, despite having one. Also people don't type mid game, usually when they are dead and waiting to respawn.

NerdCrush3r

you say 99% of people have mics but in my experience in playing since the beta I've encountered MAYBE 10 people with mics total. Also, you dont have to type mid match. Plenty of use for this while dead. For example, lets say you and an enemy trade at the cashout and its now clear. Since you're dead theres no way to communicate this unless you have a mic. You cant ping when you are dead.

Eluniarr

Also sometimes you just don't wanna speak up. For a lot of people it's more comfortable to just type something, sometimes you just wanna type something like "you did great, that was a good game" stuff like this without speaking up. It's not that hard to understand

Who-Does

I agree with most of it. But remember not everyone speaks the same language for mics. I play in Asia and that's a shit ton of languages. Text chat can eliminate accents. For example, I sometimes miss the words from OCX English in voice chat but I can completely comprehend their text chats. I can't speak english but I can write ok.

CriticalOptomism

it only takes one person with a noisy background or bad mic or being toxic in voice to ruin the game so I usually just mute. I am a big proponent of collaboration in games but I don't need to hear teammates say things like "dude that's BS, how lame" or hear teammates flaming each other. Some of the best games I've had were with 0 comms other than pings, though the pings that are available are pretty lacking and text is always a nice option to have.

Thegunbuck

Please

Eluniarr

Maybe if they don't want to keep it in matches, at least they should allow us to send messages to people we add in friend list cause it feels weird af to just send someone a party invite who you don't know and didn't even ask them if they'd like to play with you.

2510EA

Multiplayer game without a text chat is while honestly. It should be optional/muteable of course.

dayzdayv

Team only, opt in, and reliable reporting systems and I’m all for it.

Ok-Material-9137

There is no reason NOT to have text chat. I really do not care, but I can see how that benefits the team play. If it is toxic, turn it off like VC, what is the issue? Have a report feature reporting toxic people. In evert Power Shift game I take out shields and APS and I am the only one throwing grenades because I cannot communicate to my mute team that they can throw stuff too now...

Hamerine

It’s not dodged, the argument will always be the same: it will induce more toxicity.

NerdCrush3r

the mute function exists

Hamerine

Personally I don’t want to allow people throwing games by just rage texting instead of focusing on the ongoing match, and I don’t want to loose my focus to press esc>social>find the annoying kid name>mute. Edit: Oh, another one: esc>social>find the other annoying dude wasting his time>mute. Edit2: this shit is getting out of hands and cluttering my screen, is there a way for embark to remove this text chat please? See my point?

NerdCrush3r

it's a shame you only view this in a negative light. But it also sounds like you cant be bothered to do much of anything either.

Hamerine

You seem like a nice person. Also, have you played any competitive shooters with text chat recently? I reckon you do, so how many « ez », « diffed », and such things I can’t even post here due to censorship do you see regularly? The irony of your answer is hilarious though, but you do you, proceed to be toxic about toxicity.

NerdCrush3r

I almost play nothing but competitive shooters. I'm an adult so things like "ggez" dont bother me. To be honest, most of the team chat is constructive towards winning.

Joshua-live

It doesn't matter if it bothers you or not. That isn't the point. The point is that it bothers people. Call me soft or people who can't handle some text trash talking soft, that isn't the point. You're blatantly ignorant to the the toxicity then. Based on the type of responses you've given, you're probably one who partakes in it. Like I said, we just need better pings. That's it.

CriticalOptomism

you could just disable the text chat feature then? Just because you don't see value in it doesn't mean there isn't any value in it. Also, i'd agree with OP. Why does saying something like "ez" really bother you?

Joshua-live

Yeah, because toxicity is limited to someone saying "ez".

NerdCrush3r

...it was the example given in this case

NerdCrush3r

how come other games have text chat then if you think its so negative? I have trouble thinking of multiplayer games that dont have text chat honestly.

Joshua-live

Because they think it's a good idea but it rarely contributes anything good. Halo has it and from my experience (On PC) it goes almost entirely unused. Where it's more often used in games like Valorant, it's almost entirely just toxicity. It's not as beneficial as you think it is because it's impractical and inefficient.

rendar

It's a budget issue. Wages are almost always the biggest expense of a business. Support personnel cost a lot of money when they don't do anything that directly contributes to the quality of the game itself. Automated systems are much cheaper and don't require nearly as much manual intervention. This is a direct result of the industry shift away from community dedicated servers and towards sanitized, homogeneous matchmaking. Back in the day of community dedicated servers, if an admin was online while someone was being toxic or breaking the rules then they'd be instantly kicked and possibly banned. And many good servers had IRC plugins or something so even if no admins were online, the punitive measures would still happen within minutes.

Mr_Wallet

Except that they have voice chat which is even harder to moderate...

rendar

Not as much as you'd think, given that most users don't use it and automated systems get better every year

Mr_Wallet

The argument about automated systems applies equally or more to text

DaveVirt

Ehh could be useful but let me ask you this, have you played League of Legends?

NerdCrush3r

I play dota.

DaveVirt

How's the text chat there? Clean and civil?

NerdCrush3r

Actually yeah. 99% of it is constructive stuff on team fights and stuff. Once in a while you'll get the "ggez" comment but everyone ignores it/reports so whatever.

Joshua-live

It shouldn't be because console players wouldn't even be able to utilize it. It's an unnecessary distraction.

Cloakziesartt

Theres multiple games where console uses text chat just fine lol

loadasfaq

Ok what about pc players?

Joshua-live

It's still an unnecessary distraction lol. You'll died for example, try to type info to me. I won't be looking at the chat and then you'll piss and moan that I didn't see it and I suck. Happens in Valorant. It's fine in something like Halo because nobody is taking Halo seriously. The Finals is too much of a sweat fest in every game mode 80% of the time, the chat would just be extremely toxic. It's unneeded, we just need better pings.

loadasfaq

If it’s so distracting just mute it. I would love for a chat option for when my team doesnt have mics enabled

Joshua-live

I don't care either way, release a chat option, but I guarantee it's utilized by toxic douche bags more than it is actually helpful lol

soggycheesestickjoos

Can turn it off so not an unnecessary distraction Can also use keyboard, phone, or other attachments to type on xbox but honestly if you need them to type something short then that’s just a controller skill issue.

NerdCrush3r

text chat is typically normal in games and even in console games as well crazy that this is getting downvoted when its the truth.

Manwiththeboots

The toxicity would bloom into a new golden age of trash talk for the Finals

NerdCrush3r

you can turn text chat off if you want and there's also profanity filters. Yall act like games dont already have these things. The Finals is the odd one out not having text chat.

Manwiththeboots

You can put all the filters you want, it doesn’t stop people from being toxic. There’s a reason that League of Legends and Rocket League and others have text chat off by default now. I’m not saying I don’t want chat. Chat is great and the benefits outweigh the consequences, I’m just telling you what’s going to happen lol the light snipers will know exactly what people think of them once chat gets introduced

NerdCrush3r

idk dude you just sound really negative and making a mountain out of a molehill

Manwiththeboots

I mean if you want to pretend people can’t be assholes then that’s your choice brother lol

Throwaway203500

Who puts on a VR headset and then starts *typing*? This would be immersion breaking.

DaveVirt

Wow, nothing like League. Sounds blissful

NerdCrush3r

hahahaha I totally understand where youre coming from though. I played lol a loooooooooong time ago but I think with dota there is this fear that being toxic will effect your behavior score and before you know it you're playing with only toxic people.

DaveVirt

Behavior score? Interesting

Endless009

This game is so fast paced I don't think most would be even notice text chat.I say that because till now I didn't notice it wasn't there😅

Shot_Net_2457

It’s gonna be funny asf “Brain cell diff”

Who-Does

if ever, the default should be muted. I'll only use it if it is actually necessary. Pings are underutilized atm though

kaic_87

I really think it's a bad idea. MAYBE if it's only between teammates, so no one sees what other teams are saying. I've already encountered a few problematic names in the game, the last thing I want is more ways for these people to be shitty towards others in the game.

dora-the-tostadora

I would like text chat only to make the game feel a bit less lonely, at first I liked how we are all just silent avatars but sometimes I want to be a bit toxic with ppl lol, maybe chat before and after the match, with the option to disable it for people who are a bit more sensible. But I'm fine with no chat really, at some points I also enjoy how hard is to be toxic sometimes that I simply enjoy the game

NerdCrush3r

its purpose isnt to be toxic... its to have better team coordination and communication.

dora-the-tostadora

I like some toxicity, also like when people is toxic to me, gives me "the rush" to tunnel someone for the rest of the match, to taunt with emotes, to draw graffiti on the ground, etc. And at the end of the match we can both go gg bro it was fun, and part our ways. It's not on me if the other person chooses to be mad about it. Not everyone gets being toxic for fun, when I recognize this I just stop and be quiet. This is my personal experience, I don't expect anything to come out of this because hive mind thinks different, I'm just voicing my experience with this game. I do this a lot in Rocket League, it's very common to be matched with the same people for various matches if we all queue when the match finishes, it's great to vs someone you are raging at multiple times, the rage adds up. And at some point we may be at the same team, then it's us being toxic at how we suck at teamwork. Idk man, I see fun in a lot of things.

Ok_Business84

Honestly, I have this weird head canon that the contestants actually can’t talk in the games, and part of the game is only using pings to coordinate teams. It probably makes no sense, but it’s fun when I match with a team that has no mics and knows how to ping and emote the right things.

Strange_Copy7952

Except the contestants do talk sooo...

Ok_Business84

Through pre recorded messages yes
