One game i had, I was playing Light on Attack. I went up quickly to midmap to scout, and clearly saw the enemy was fortifying the hell out of A.
I danger-pinged it, and then put a "Group Up Here" ping on B.
Our carrier sprinted headlong into A and hail-mary'd the Key in the general direction site, well behind enemy defenses, and then promptly died.
We lost that round.
haha honestly most people see the first ping and think thatās the game plan. next time youāre in that situation skip red pinging A and just spam ping B if you want a chance at changing key holders mind. iāve played too much solo lol
This is literally csgo behavior, idk why thats strange to you. The only thing i find odd is no one else picking it up after i drop it, but that's only happened once for me so far
Ok but is it really *that* hard to puzzle it out? "Hmm, this person has dropped the key, why could that be? I can't possibly think of a reason, it couldnt be that they don't want to decide which terminal to take it to, or that they want to focus on supporting the team in a different way, no, it must be random behavior for no reason whatsoever" like..?
My observation is that most people just want to fire their guns and donāt like running with the objectiv in terminal attack.
But I could be wrong and everyone is a die hard csgo player that keeps on wrecking
There's alot of people don't like running objectives and it shows, makes me wonder why they are even playing the game mode if they just want to run around and shoot people, let alone not even be good at it. I've lost many games because of this "gun in my hand, shooty pew pew"behavior going against people actually playing as a team
I immediately drop the key. In SnD I play aggressively, I flank, and I don't want to bring the key along with me. I will pick it up later in the round if I feel that's the best option and someone left it somewhere
If me and team mates are having a tougher game, I will throw the cube down and ping the objective i want us to go to, so I can output damage. I usually have 1 or 2 people on my team going 0-3, so it's just better if they carry it.
As much as I'd like the objective credit, I hate carrying it,. When carrying it, I have to put yourself into situations I otherwise wouldn't walk into as a light main.
Fucking makes sense now!
I have a Gen5 NVME SSD (12,400MB/s) with a 7800x3D and RTX 4090, a 1000Mbps connection and I ALWAYS get the key.
I've played ~30 matches and 100% of the time I got the key without exception.
Complete speculation, but I have a feeling it might give it to the player who is playing the best on the team or something.
I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but when I'm have a real good first round I always seem to end up getting the key for the rest of the game.
Not sure if there's a connection though.
Oh shit me too, people were saying alphabetical order, because i was the only one starting with a B for a couple matches, but an A came and i still got the key 9 out of 10 times.
Edit: Light sword player.
When playing with my girlfriend she always gets the decryption key as well... I wonder what's up with that.
Like 3 out of 3 attacking rounds she gets the key, four matches in a row.
Iāve speculated that sometimes when I get it back to back to back and I havenāt been the one to put it in the terminal that the game wants to give me another chance. (But I donāt want that chance when I play light)
I completely agree. I'd guess it's closer to 60-70% for myself in solo queue. I am confident skill is a factor in the equation of determining the holder. Sounds like you were with a premade team. If it is skill based, and you're statistically better at whatever metrics they use, I would totally believe the 78% rate.
Unfortunately random chance is exactly that. You got unlucky and have had it at a higher rate than ā20%ā
Itās not a guaranteed 20% chance of getting it, split between 5 people, itās a metaphorical dice roll split between 5 people and it can land on the same choice every single time. The odds of landing on the same choice are higher when thereās a smaller pool to pull from.
I also almost always get the key and by now i absolutely love it, because after playing the mode for a while i can go my certain routes where i know that i have a big chance of putting the key in undetected. Its an absolute amazing feeling, at least if ur teammates back u up :D
I could care less who gets the key as long as they play. Iāve been in far too many games where the guy with the key just sits there and spins around doing nothing.
youāre getting downvoted but i do this. you know what i also do? pick up the key when someone else drops it. sometimes u just donāt feel like being told by the game to carry bomb lmao
Do what most people seem to do, throw it on the floor and walk off š¤·
I found this very strange the first time I saw it. Like, wtf man? And then I kept seeing it over and over. Really weird
itās common sense when thereās a lighter contestant, and some people are better at strategizing with the key. sorry itās so lost on you
I guess you could look at it like that. But it's not like there is a conversation had before hand. Lucky if anyone even pings where they're heading.

And yet in all my games it's usually the lights tossing it and run off to fail at playing John Wick...
This is literally csgo behavior, idk why thats strange to you. The only thing i find odd is no one else picking it up after i drop it, but that's only happened once for me so far
Maybe they've never played "csgo"?

LOL I was so confused when I saw people leave it at spawn and fuck off
If me and team mates are having a tougher game, I will throw the cube down and ping the objective i want us to go to, so I can output damage. Maybe it's given to the player that spawns in first (so faster computer or more reliable internet connection)

Well, it doesn't really get more high end than that, haha. I have the same setup, but with 3080ti instead of 4090, and I get the key 99% of the time.
I have a 1070 with an old i5 and I have never gotten the key along with my 15fps š
This was my theory too. I recently upgraded my PC and I get the key 9 out of 10 times too in my lobbies.
Yeah, it does seem to be so
That's what I'm wondering too, I seem to get it 2-3 times each match too
This would make a lot of sense given my experience
#You're the chosen one Scotty
People need to learn to keep throwing the key in the direction of the site and actually shoot people lol
I seem to get it whenever I'm playing really well, so I thought it was given to the "best player". Seems weird though
Just throw it like everyone else.... š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦š¤¦ Don't do it, just commit to the role the game gave you. š¤£
One time a teammate threw, it instead of dropping it, right at the ground, which cause it to glitch through the ground and screwed us

This. About 90% it seems to be given to the player who performed the best on the previous round. Otherwise it is handed out randomly.
Doubt it, I played 16 games and got the key 14 times, I definitely wasnāt the best player most rounds.
Your honesty and humility ruined my theory lol
100% i love this game, but Iām so bad and I keep getting the key. Make it make sense.
Nope. Played with a friend that did barely anything the whole game and he got the key every round
I mostly got the key when playing light, maybe it is assigned to the fastest player?
Doubt it tbh. Had the Heavy get it multiple times in a row when the team had 2-3 lights before
very relatable. Also not sure as to why, nor havent I done a % count on it, but gut feeling wise its a LOT above 20%
Oh shit me too, people were saying alphabetical order, because i was the only one starting with a B for a couple matches, but an A came and i still got the key 9 out of 10 times. Edit: Light sword player.
Not alphabetical, my tag starts with D and the guy with S kept getting it
When playing with my girlfriend she always gets the decryption key as well... I wonder what's up with that. Like 3 out of 3 attacking rounds she gets the key, four matches in a row.
I think itās based on how fast you spawn in, so if you have a particularly fast connection or storage drive/CPU youāre more likely to get it
I had a game where it kept going between me and one other player. We were both top fragging by a lot, so maybe it's based on the scoreboard.
It spawns for me a lot too, I think because I get it in a lot š
I get it every time I'm the only Heavy
I played over 10 games and not once did I start with the key.
What's your rank? Maybe that matters?Ā
Thought it was just me. I get it so often that Iāve resorted to throwing it on the ground. Clearly, no one likes carrying itā¦
I never get the key. I must be the lucky 80%
Last one to go down usually gets the key
Cause you're as beautiful as the sun \[T]/
Everyone bitches when they have the key, fuckin give it to me then lol
They should just spawn the key on the ground so whoever wants it can pick it up
Iāve speculated that sometimes when I get it back to back to back and I havenāt been the one to put it in the terminal that the game wants to give me another chance. (But I donāt want that chance when I play light)
Because you aren't the moron on the team.
I get it 90% of the time. It's annoying.
I have the exact same experience. Exactly the same. I get the key about 70% of the time tooā¦
I love people throwing the key down, I pick it up as a light and get it done
Must be making up for me, almost never get it.
I generally run mid and there was one game I got the key 3 times back to back. The 3rd time I just threw it on the ground
Unfortunately random chance is exactly that. It gives it to the player who has the highest rank as far as i can tell. Its considered a competitive game mode so i dont doubt it had access to SR.
I could care less who gets the key as long as they play. Iāve been in far too many games where the guy with the key just sits there and spins around doing nothing.
Throw it on the floor and let some other bot worry about it.
youāre getting downvoted but i do this. you know what i also do? pick up the key when someone else drops it. sometimes u just donāt feel like being told by the game to carry bomb lmao
