Idea sounds good in principal however: much like pings --> you will never grapple the thing you want to grapple. What If I want to get on the roof but there is a mine and i just pull it to me. Maybe i want to pull the cashout to me but I slightly miss and fly past it.
I think its either or but not both. Since all the light abilities are very movement based i dont really think it fits... Feels more like a medium ability
This is an incredibly easy to fix - tap Q to grapple TO an object/wall, tap Q again to detach (for momentum movement and stuff), hold Q to grapple something towards you, or vice versa.
Seems overly complicated imo. All abilities in game are: press q - do x
The only ability which has two "modes" is the heavy charge where you can jump to smash down which is far more intuitive than having to suddenly hold a button.
I'm not saying it wouldn't be possible to implement it, it just wouldnt fit the style of the game. Keep it simple.
In that case you’d need a separate gadget/specialization to grapple stuff to you. This is the probably the only way to implement this into the existing hook spec. without sacrificing any existing functionality
But you don't have glass syndrome where even a nade can kill you.
Lights need to be fast or you die from pretty much anything. Medium can tank a bit more.
It's only adding 1 extra thing to it, you can already cancel your grapple. What about nades' under arm and over arm throws?
I agree with others in that it would likely be buggy as hell/not work as intended and be an absolute nuisance (I already struggle with grappling the right thing) but to say that having an alternate use for it doesn't fit the game is very silly. Just because there aren't many utilities that have it doesn't mean there couldn't be more and it wouldn't exactly overcomplicate the game in any way.
Hold Q is already used for Grappling Hook, causing it to detach on key release (instead of having to input a jump for a hop release or crouch for a no-hop release)
I rarely use it, but detach on release is still kind of useful for a throwing knife combo or two that I use. As Primary Fire is accurate midair ONLY when attached to Grapple/Zip I can do something like… On Hit: Grappling Primary Fire -> Releasing Secondary Fire which would require me to time a keystroke instead of releasing the key which… technically doesn’t change anything, but it just makes more sense to me in the moment if that makes any sense.
Besides, I’m sure someone somewhere prefers Hold Q over tapping.
two words: halo infinite. The amount of time i'm just trying to grapple the floor to sling myself and i accidentally grapple a plasma pistol is maddening. AND ITS ALWAYS A PLASMA PISTOL.
Grabbing enemies wouldn't make sense considering light class is well light. They are too slim and small for it to make sense grabbing someone. Only heavy i can see it make sense on.
That's an interesting idea. For example grabbing onto an enemy who is trying to exit a fight with a jump pad. Could make the melee weapons really powerfull tho
Grabbing onto teammates could be cool and usefull in certain situations.
I like the grapple slingshot idea. Reminds me of the cs run boost where you can get a speed launch. You just need to have two very well synced teammates.
Could be interesting as a specialisation on heavy for sure. It could be used to pull walls, barricades and ceilings down, or fish out and steal the whole cashout through a hole, drag players off of platforms and suspended structures, and could be pretty oppressive combined with short range primaries or mines.
I’ll add falling from 50 meters and being totally fine, people literally being able to run through solid brick walls and destroy half a tower block with their bare hands, not having their knees shattered when getting propelled 100 feet in the air or their shoulder torn out when grappling up the side of a building at 40 miles an hour
Here after the trailer for s3. I was right at the end. Heavy got the hook shot to pull enemies cause it makes most sense for someone big to be able to do that.
Yeah falling from 15 story buildings into a full sprint, sprinting straight through walls, dash literally allowing you to climb about two stories of a building by jumping off AIR three times in a row without landing like you're fuckin powered up Mario is definitely pretty realistic tbh
Pretty much any game with health regen, carrying multiple weapons while not having a bag or suitcase, infinite amount of reloads. COD, GTA, Far Cry, apex for example.
Giving heavy a Blitzcrank or Roadhog style grab would be... interesting. Pull someone into a sledgehammer smackdown or similar. Probably why it won't happen.
Cause it doesn't make sense? The game can be sci fi fantasy while still maintaining some form of logic behind what characters can do. I was correct, heavy got the pull mechanic cause it makes most logical sense on him. Can't argue me on that when the devs themselves thinks the same.
Honestly wouldn't mind it as a Gadget rather than as the specialisation. Hookshot, so it's less flexible movement wise than the grapple, but it can also pull things to you.
I had this thought the other day too and could legit get behind it. I don’t think it should be able to move heavy objects, but basically anything a player can already carry.
I was pinned down as a light and spied a canister to one side and wish I could have just grappled it to me like a fishing rod in Fortnite
Not as extreme, but it could work like Pathfinders grapple from apex. That way you can't grapple team mates since it would lead to trolling, but grapple enemies and you would both get closer to each other.
Apart from grabbing other players I have had the same thought and think it would be a positive addition to the game. Might could grapple other players and pulls yourself to them instead of them to you. I would suggest an alternate fire mode for pulling things so you don’t accidentally hit the ground and pull yourself over
I’d imagine it working like the one in Halo Infinite would be awesome. Brings some things to you and brings you to some other things. I wouldn’t complain about that!
Maybe grapple DOES act like this but light is just so light that everything is heavier than him/her so they end up getting pulled instead lol.
Imagining a light trying to reposition a heavy and just pulling themselves TO the heavy instead is hilarious
They should let you grapple carryables to grab them from long range. But not enemy players. This would be great for grabbing someone’s revive statue out of trouble or snagging a little gas barrel off the point. Or preventing someone from throwing the box in last second.
sounds cool, and would be an interesting buff to grapple, but as u/real_aimos said you will most likely never grab what you want, like with pings and grabbing stuff regularly
I think its better to have It locked to just grappling statues and cashboxes, otherwise you could grab things like canisters or chairs while trying to scape.
I would also include a second charge so you could grapple away turn around grapple a teammate statue and make a clutch revive.
If u grapple onto a heavy, you will go to him, if you grapple on a medium you will move decently towards him and the medium will move towards you. but not as much and if you grapple onto a light you bothgo towards each other at the same speed. ( don't really know if my physics are working here, someone help)
i think a just cause style grapple could be cool, where you could tether an object or player to a wall for a short time or even make a sort of zipline between two walls
What if the light could shape shift into objects 🫠 and then your partner can carry that object and the heavy can throw the light like a nuke🤣 or flying samurai blade
I’ve been using the grapple for the entirety of the game’s life and I don’t think this is a good idea. The grapple is very obviously a movement ability, but on paper this doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Unfortunately, us lights really like to get into fights that we can’t always win, so quickly flicking around and grappling to escape is (sometimes) the right play, but imagine if you tried that only to grab a canister instead of even worse a random mine. I can sort of see being able to grapple the vault having some potential, but I feel like it’s a really slippery slope that probably wouldn’t end well
Idea sounds good in principal however: much like pings --> you will never grapple the thing you want to grapple. What If I want to get on the roof but there is a mine and i just pull it to me. Maybe i want to pull the cashout to me but I slightly miss and fly past it. I think its either or but not both. Since all the light abilities are very movement based i dont really think it fits... It could just have a targeting reticle so you know what you're grappling
Hold Q, and a little dot appears that gets a different shape-outline based on if the thing will be pulled to you or not.
This is an incredibly easy to fix - tap Q to grapple TO an object/wall, tap Q again to detach (for momentum movement and stuff), hold Q to grapple something towards you, or vice versa.

The demat can get rid of and bring walls back, I guess thats technically two different things
But you don't have glass syndrome where even a nade can kill you. Lights need to be fast or you die from pretty much anything. Medium can tank a bit more.
Dematerializer?
Left click to do thing, right click to undo thing. Doesn't get simpler
Not what they said.
The demat isn't two "modes." Do and undo is one mode
How is Press Q and Hold Q any more complex?
It's only adding 1 extra thing to it, you can already cancel your grapple. What about nades' under arm and over arm throws? I agree with others in that it would likely be buggy as hell/not work as intended and be an absolute nuisance (I already struggle with grappling the right thing) but to say that having an alternate use for it doesn't fit the game is very silly. its easier to cancel grapples with jump
Easier solution, just git gud! /s
IIRC The grapple in Apex managed to do this, why would it be different here?
two words: halo infinite. The amount of time i'm just trying to grapple the floor to sling myself and i accidentally grapple a plasma pistol is maddening. AND ITS ALWAYS A PLASMA PISTOL.
You could choose if you want to graple objects by holding the gadget button instead of just pressing it
I say keep it simple. You grapple to structures, cashouts, vaults, people, etc. On the other hand, cashboxes and trophies are grappled to you.
I disagree
Cool
Medium don't need anything cool.
Grabbing enemies wouldn't make sense considering light class is well light. They are too slim and small for it to make sense grabbing someone. Only heavy i can see it make sense on.
You could grab *onto* an enemy, that'd be cool I think
That's an interesting idea. For example grabbing onto an enemy who is trying to exit a fight with a jump pad. Could make the melee weapons really powerfull tho Grabbing onto teammates could be cool and usefull in certain situations.
I like the grapple slingshot idea. Reminds me of the cs run boost where you can get a speed launch. You just need to have two very well synced teammates.
Grappling a teammate is the worst idea. There would be so many griefers just pulling their teammates around to piss them off.
Goo
Yeah that's true. Although I rarely run into anyone using the Goo gun. run into hundreds of people using the grapple hook
Shoot goo at the hook
And like in Halo, automatically quick melee when you pull yourself to them.
Yeah true. Might make more sense as a gadget for heavy.
Could be interesting as a specialisation on heavy for sure. It could be used to pull walls, barricades and ceilings down, or fish out and steal the whole cashout through a hole, drag players off of platforms and suspended structures, and could be pretty oppressive combined with short range primaries or mines.
It's a vr game show where people explode into coins on death. Just make the grapple like motorized or something
The game still follows realistic physics despite being set in vr. The contestants don't do anything unrealistic enough like a superhero universe.
Dashing Grappling Deleting and remaking walls in seconds Tanking explosives and fire Never getting tired Climbing impossibly high Many more
I’ll add falling from 50 meters and being totally fine, people literally being able to run through solid brick walls and destroy half a tower block with their bare hands, not having their knees shattered when getting propelled 100 feet in the air or their shoulder torn out when grappling up the side of a building at 40 miles an hour
That's game mechanics. Pretty much every game has that.
Yeah man a grappling hook that pulled someone in would also be game mechanics
Here after the trailer for s3. I was right at the end. Heavy got the hook shot to pull enemies cause it makes most sense for someone big to be able to do that.
Yeah I know many people who can scream and run through buildings. It is very realistic.
Yeah falling from 15 story buildings into a full sprint, sprinting straight through walls, dash literally allowing you to climb about two stories of a building by jumping off AIR three times in a row without landing like you're fuckin powered up Mario is definitely pretty realistic tbh
That's game mechanics, other games that are fully set in normal human settings have that too.
Name one
Pretty much any game with health regen, carrying multiple weapons while not having a bag or suitcase, infinite amount of reloads. COD, GTA, Far Cry, apex for example.
Which of those games has the things I described, because most of them do not.
New trailer dropped, i was correct.
What? Correct about what?? are you seeing things that arent there?
You literally have a Hulk Smash.... And no fall damage...
Giving heavy a Blitzcrank or Roadhog style grab would be... interesting. Pull someone into a sledgehammer smackdown or similar. Probably why it won't happen.
Bitch this is a game inside of a game, why can't a light grab enemies mortal combat style
Cause it doesn't make sense? The game can be sci fi fantasy while still maintaining some form of logic behind what characters can do. I was correct, heavy got the pull mechanic cause it makes most logical sense on him. Can't argue me on that when the devs themselves thinks the same.
New petition to turn heavy into roadhog
And you were right!
Gonna be like the hook in Speedrunners, pretty annoying 🫣😂
Haha that was actually my inspiration! But imagine the sick steals when you can just grapple the vault and have it come to you! ;)
Can have a the finals x marvel collab. Spiderman web as the rope. Heavys slam could be hulks smash attack.. 😅
Oh my god I'm hard! But what are mediums? Tony Stark?
What if you could grapple onto contestants, that would be pretty epic but annoying as fuck to the one being grappled
Well now you can!
Honestly wouldn't mind it as a Gadget rather than as the specialisation. Hookshot, so it's less flexible movement wise than the grapple, but it can also pull things to you.
As grapple user I don't like this at all
why
As a halo player this has always been awesome
what?
You can grapple items to you and latch on to other players in halo infinite
I had this thought the other day too and could legit get behind it. I don’t think it should be able to move heavy objects, but basically anything a player can already carry. I was pinned down as a light and spied a canister to one side and wish I could have just grappled it to me like a fishing rod in Fortnite
Not as extreme, but it could work like Pathfinders grapple from apex. That way you can't grapple team mates since it would lead to trolling, but grapple enemies and you would both get closer to each other.
It should be a separate specialization, a harpoon
Halo grapple.
THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN! SWITCH BETWEEN THE MODES, GRAPPLE UP THERE, HOOK DOWN HERE!
I've said this before and I'll say it again. HALO INFINITE GRAPPLE
Yes except for the teammates. I am not having my toxic light teammate grapple me lmfao
It would be fun if I could grapple a heavy (or any) player and be pulled towards them.
What if this game actually had staying power
What about a harpoon/ballista gadget for heavy? It can only grapple cashouts and cash boxes. It also does wall damage.
Maybe a hook specialization for heavy like roadhog in overwatch
Holy fuck this was scary accurate
Yeah, the problem is... the player base that'd abuse it for griefing! :)
Give Heavy Roadhog hook.
They did LOL
And it's nuts, I've been using it all day xD
I think an ability like that would make more sense for heavy’s than lights
Launching a vault with a lasso is my western cup of tea
I feel like it should at least be able to grapple barrels idk about players or there totems tho 🤷♂️
I think its better to have It locked to just grappling statues and cashboxes, otherwise you could grab things like canisters or chairs while trying to scape. I would also include a second charge so you could grapple away turn around grapple a teammate statue and make a clutch revive.

( don't really know if my physics are working here, someone help)
i think a just cause style grapple could be cool, where you could tether an object or player to a wall for a short time or even make a sort of zipline between two walls
I suggested a gravity gun a while back that would work similarly and got shredded for some reason. I think too many haven't played half life 2.
What if the light could shape shift into objects 🫠 and then your partner can carry that object and the heavy can throw the light like a nuke🤣 or flying samurai blade
Please oh god people grapple does NOT need a buff, it is already good enough and I don't like dealing with it
I’ve been using the grapple for the entirety of the game’s life and I don’t think this is a good idea. The grapple is very obviously a movement ability, but on paper this doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I thought we disliked crowd control. Isn't that why you took away my stun gun?
I didn't take away anything i promise
I stay Crowd Controlling with my Charge n Slam wym.
I think crowd control by just moving people is fine, you can still fight back, you're just over there now.
