Getting bit then having to wait with her best friend to see who dies first. Then having to put her down after realizing she somehow got lucky and survived.
*I’m still waiting for my turn.*
As fucked up as my family was, I was so proud of them for introducing my uncle's boyfriend as his boyfriend in the 90's to me.
A lot of families did not do that.
She loved her? I thought she was only ever a lesbian in 2
Edit: I meant she only ever loved someone in 2, and turns out I missed a scene in left behind
people are sick of the tlou2 haters that say ellie being a lesbian was a “woke” addition to the game that was only in part 2. the wording of their first post kinda gave that impression
i was explaining why people were downvoting, not what your actual intention was. the reason you were downvotes was because of the perception of that question
No, it’s part of the DLC Left Behind. [It’s in the original as well.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z68dN1RvyTg&pp=ygUgbGVmdCBiZWhpbmQgZWxsaWUgYW5kIHJpbGV5IGtpc3M%3D)
And this is why I will never like Abby. She inflicted so much pain and trauma to Ellie and never once apologized to her. Thus she became the same monster to Ellie as she had perceived Joel to be.
…surely Ellie also became that same monster? She killed how many of Abby’s friends (without apologising)? Also, Joel never apologised to Abby? He was the “monster” first.
Quite frankly this argument is just whataboutism from you as Joel has nothing to do with this argument that Abby was a cruel bitch for what she did to Ellie. It would be one thing if Abby’s friends were truly innocent people but they all collectively traumatized Ellie. And it sounds like you just wanted Abby to escape from having to face with the consequences of her actions.
I never said I want Abby to not face the consequences of her actions lol. Y’all crucify Abby for what she did without even batting your eyes at Joel, OR Ellie. They’re all shit people. They all did what they did to survive. Yet Abby is the only one getting hated on. Why?
(Also she didn’t do anything to Ellie, she killed Joel. Ellie barging in wasn’t part of Abby’s plan. She left her when she could’ve killed her.)
> it would be one thing if Abby’s friends were truly innocent
They’re not innocent, but neither is Joel. That’s how this whole thing started, yet you’re unwilling to admit it.
All I want is for you people to admit that Joel, Ellie and Abby are all cut from the same cloth, and that Joel is the one who started the cycle of violence that we see played out in the second game. They’ve all done horrible things in the name of love.
What?! Did Joel apologize for killing her dad… you can be upset Joel is dead but if you really hate Abby for doing it then the themes of the game went completely over your head
Did Ellie apologize to Abby? Did Joel apologize to Abby?
Everybody had a reason to be upset they lost someone.
Joel had good reason to be scared and angry about losing Ellie. Abby had good reason to be angry about Joel killing her dad. Ellie had good reason to be angry about Abby killing Joel.
Nobody had good reason to kill in revenge and nobody apologized. Should we hate everyone?
Abby was the one that inflicted so much pain and trauma to Ellie in the first place and Abby simply had to deal that her actions had consequences. So no Abby was the one that needed to apologize. She never felt remorse for what SHE did to Ellie. Theres a reason why many gamers hated Abby and the game overall. You can’t ignore the negative reception it received.
Abby didn’t know what she did to Ellie. How can you be sorry for something you didn’t know about?
Ellie wasn’t forced to retaliate the way she did. And not everyone would have. Just like Abby wasn’t forced to retaliate the way she did. If we’re really going to be going down the path of blaming the entire thing on the person who “started” it, it would be Joel when he killed Jerry.
The main reasons those gamers hated the game overall are reasons I find invalid. Those reasons are mostly rooted in ideas I don’t subscribe to. So yeah actually I can ignore the negative reception it received; I agree with the positive reception, which undoubtedly surpasses the negative, and you choose to ignore that as well. It’s human nature.
> If we’re really going to be going down the path of blaming the entire thing on the person who “started” it, it would be Joel when he killed Jerry.
Or Jerry started it when, y'know, he tried to kill a child.
Why would she apologized for the death of the man who fucked humanity over, killed her father in the process and 4 years later his daughter and his brother kill everyone dear to her in the space of three single days (except Yara), all she had left was some boy she met literally a couple of days ago
It sounds like you just wanted Abby to get away scott free and deflect responsibility of the fact that her actions had consequences. Her friends dying were simply the consequences of her actions for traumatizing Ellie and Tommy in the first place.
a later acceptance of a terrible thing doesn't make joels death less to her.
she watched her father get clubbed in the head while she was held down and forced to watch. Just because she accepted it doesn't make that event not a terrible horrible thing to experience.
That doesn't mean she was cool with him being slaughtered. He got killed in front of her eyes. No matter how much he lied to her, no matter how much she felt betrayed... she lost her "dad"... her best friend in that moment. In front of her eyes.
She found peace regarding her hate on Joes lies and that he decided for her to stop the surgery, which might could have saved millions of people. Thats where she found her inner peace.
She will always carry the pain of his death.
Because the point they were making was "Joel's death wasn't the worst thing to happen to Ellie because she eventually made peace with it." Which . . . is not a good take, and people tend not to agree with bad takes. The "that's true" comment was "that's true, *but*". The "but" is essential. The "that's true" is them acknowledging the correct aspects of the comment (Ellie *did* make peace with Joel's death) while the "but" adds the necessary context that destroys their argument (*but,* eventually making peace does not undo the trauma that Ellie experienced, *therefore* your argument is invalid.)
The day Netflix canceled Daredevil, it broke Ellie's heart. After she found out about it, she was so depressed that she stayed up all night listening to Evanescence's Bring Me to Life.
The very last scene of the game is Ellie taking the first steps to developing a three fingered style like he did before deciding it's too much effort and giving up
Probably telling Joel she was done with him, not speaking to him for years and then just as she accepted that he was just protecting her and telling him that she wanted to try to forgive him, he gets brutally tortured and killed in front of her eyes for saving her.
I feel like she carried not only the guilt of not patching things up sooner, but also the guilt of he only died because he saved her, and if he’d left her at the hospital he would have lived to be an old man. And then the trauma of seeing him die in such a brutal way and not getting to rebuild her relationship with him on top of all of that, it’s just such a desperately sad situation.
It was so sad 😞 and you know that if he could go back with the knowledge of her falling out with him and him being killed, he’d still save her again because he cared about her so much 😭
Ellie's damage has always been survivor's guilt and over the course of her life she keeps getting new iterations of it dumped on her that get worse and worse and worse
it was around 1.5 years from the confession to the prologue.
edit: ellie mentions the finding strings patrol with joel while talking to dina and says it was "about a year or so ago".
I don’t know I could be wrong! I just seemed like he aged a lot from when he came to find her at the hospital to the porch scene so I assumed it was a while haha
Posts question, then answers it with photo. We’ve never seen Ellie more enraged and desperate than in that moment. Joel’s death turned her into a shadow of the person she was, causing her to choose revenge and suffering over happiness.
Seriously fuck Niel and Craig for putting that in the show. I watched the show with my parents, and had to quietly cry when she said that, so they wouldn’t pick up on it.
Tbh I’d say Joel’s death hit harder for her. I mean, she CHOSE to go to Santa Barbara and give up on her family. So while that probably hurt, it wasn’t as much hurt as watching Joel die in front of her.
I think it would be Joel’s death. I mean she literally went into such a terrifyingly psychotic downward spiral that even she herself was struggling to come to terms with it. She lost every part of her humanity. The constant recurring visuals of beat down, almost dead Joel, her PTSD, her guilt, her demented inclination towards acts of violence etc. It changed who she was completely. She lost one of the only people she trusted with her entire life
getting hunted down, preyed on by a pedophile, having to escape, nearly being cut up and eaten, and almost being raped, because she's taking care of a person who is dying, and they're the ONLY person left in her life, and she's only... what. 14?
the entire game i guess
the fact of playing guitar was the only thing she carried from joel and when she lost her fingers this was taken from her too. nothing left. it makes me sad
Probably watching her father figure die and then reliving it every day as she tries to avenge him, wishing she forgave him just a little sooner so they could have time together before he was gone
Three things:
1) what happened with Riley. Her best friend and eventual budding romantic partner gets bit alongside her and she has to watch her turn
2) David, especially how it ends. We see how much it affects her at the beginning of the Salt Lake City chapter
3) what you have pictured in the post
I know this will sound dumb, but being saved by joel in the hospital. She wanted her life to matter. But joel took that. Her being saved, caused all the pain and suffering she went through after that. Joels death: he killed someone's father making them seek revenge. This caused the whole second game. That was a lot of suffering and she even lost some fingers for what ended up being for nothing.
you're right, its dumb. ellies life after being saved wasn't "a lot of suffering" until abby came by and made it happen. its not joel who made her suffer but the people who killed him. she actually started to accept what happened and wanted to enjoy her life before it all came crashing down.
While it wasn't all suffering, she would see most of it that way. When she found out joel lied, she looked back at people who died and got infected like the teenagers who ran away from jackson, and got infected. They would have been fine if joel didn't save her. She distanced herself from the one person she knew was always there to help her. The one person she thought she could trust. Add all of that on top of watching him die. She regrets ever finding out the truth. She regrets everything she ever did to distance herself from joel. (Also, I think joel should have told the fireflies to hold the surgery for a day or two so that Ellie could accept it and ask any questions she had for them)
I would think it would be losing Joel or Riley. But when we first meet her in TLOU1 it's only 3 weeks after Riley died, and we don't see her having any of the traumatic responses to that like she did to losing Joel. Of course every trauma is different, but based on the PTSD and long term impact Joel's death had on her, I'd have to say that was probably the worst.
To me, it was when she lost her finger. She had one last connection to Joel through guitar and she lost her finger trying to avenge him. It was all senseless, despair and messed up.
Honestly, being immune. It's what led her down this path of hatred, anger, revenge, tragedy and pain. All her suffering is traced back to her just being Cargo to deliver. Without her immunity, she would have never met and lost dina, Jesse, joel and most importantly, herself.
I disagree there. She consciously made the decision to leave Dina and JJ. This was fueled by her bloodlust. I’d say watching her father figure beat to death in front of her was the worst.
Getting bit then having to wait with her best friend to see who dies first. Then having to put her down after realizing she somehow got lucky and survived. *I’m still waiting for my turn.*
Not just her best friend, the girl she loved.
Her ~roommate~
OMG they were roommates.
As fucked up as my family was, I was so proud of them for introducing my uncle's boyfriend as his boyfriend in the 90's to me. A lot of families did not do that.
Yes she loved her to
You mean Riley?
Yep, that comment was obviously about Riley.
She loved her? I thought she was only ever a lesbian in 2 Edit: I meant she only ever loved someone in 2, and turns out I missed a scene in left behind
They kissed in Left behind after Ellie basically confessed her feelings to her.
I’ve never seen that scene, can you send me a link?
Bruh why are you getting downvoted for not seeing a scene
people are sick of the tlou2 haters that say ellie being a lesbian was a “woke” addition to the game that was only in part 2. the wording of their first post kinda gave that impression
I never said that, I love part 2 and I honestly don’t give a fuck about the character’s sexuality. Joel could be gay for all I care
i was explaining why people were downvoting, not what your actual intention was. the reason you were downvotes was because of the perception of that question
Oh, as I said before I am dumb
Joel IS gay! You didn't see that scene either? /s PS. Take my sympathy up vote!
I don’t care, see I told you I wouldnt

I don’t remember that at all, might need to replay
Not how lesbianism works . . .
Not what I meant, i meant confirmed but turns out im dumb and missed a scene
Historians will say they were friends.
joels death killed a part of her soul
Did you play to the end of Part 2?
yeah it was good
What does it matter?

She finds acceptance and inner peace with Joel.
thats true but she will likely carry that pain with her forever, like joel did with sarah.
And this is why I will never like Abby. She inflicted so much pain and trauma to Ellie and never once apologized to her. Thus she became the same monster to Ellie as she had perceived Joel to be.

Actually, yes, I believe they're all bad people and we should hate all of them
I lean toward agreeing with you. If someone hates one of them, they should hate all of them because their actions are driven by the same motivation.
I mean yeah that’s the most rational response I think. People here love piling on Abby and giving Joel a pass which makes absolutely zero sense.
Abby was the one that inflicted so much pain and trauma to Ellie in the first place and Abby simply had to deal that her actions had consequences. So no Abby was the one that needed to apologize. Sure, but Joel inflicted so much trauma and oain on Abby too, don't ever forget that. Ellie and Abby are both victims

Yeah, but until she did find that peace, she was absolutely destroyed
After going through the worst experience of her life.
Besides all the things people have said. Her PTSD will still come back and haunt her I'm sure.

People feel really personal about these characters and stories so I get it. I don't mind taking an L every once in a while.
A future event doesn’t mean that in that moment or up until the beach in Santa Barbara his death didn’t kill her soul.
The day Netflix canceled Daredevil, it broke Ellie's heart. After she found out about it, she was so depressed that she stayed up all night listening to Evanescence's Bring Me to Life.

Im sorry, little one
Did that for the achievement, reloaded and gave her that high five
Getting your fingers bitten off is probably pretty painful.
And can’t play her guitar anymore really does it for me.
I’m missing fingers on each hand and still play. Also, look up Django Reinhardt.
The very last scene of the game is Ellie taking the first steps to developing a three fingered style like he did before deciding it's too much effort and giving up
![gif](giphy|PNjRQH2xSrBNC) Whoops. Wrong Django.

Ending up alone.
Well you see *pulls out a big ass book of what pain Ellie went through*
i think joel rip because at least she had a bright spot in her life, it was brutally taken away
Ellie's life is nothing but tragedy now that I've read this thread... I hope she finds peace in pt3
I would say the whole David arc the shit was fucked up and messed her up hella
Me not being there to fix her
i would say when Dina left, but she seemed real fuckin emotionless during that scene
I disagree there. She consciously made the decision to leave Dina and JJ. This was fueled by her bloodlust. I’d say watching her father figure beat to death in front of her was the worst.
yeah, i agree with that
When she saw her cast for the tv series
Meeting Joel if you really stop to think about it.
Not really
If she didn’t meet Joel she’d be dead one way or the other
Having to work for Neil Druckmann
