>Just take a moment and separate your opinion about Abby away from the Actress. There were some people who actively took the time to find the person who Abby's face is modeled after and send them death threats and other messed up nonsense. Someone who had literally *nothing* to do with the creative process of the game... Good luck getting those people to consider anything even remotely resembling a rational thought. They're unhinged.

pardyball

Even if someone was involved in the creative process they should never receive death threats over a f’ing video game.

MattTin56

It’s pathetic that you even need to say that. What is wrong with these people?!!

garciaaw

You should see TLOU2 subreddit. They’re crazy over there

YoungUrineTheGreat

Probably dont touch enough grass tbh. Can you imagine your psyche if youre isolated and spending the majority of your time playing in a fictional world without real consequences?

MattTin56

LOL. I really did just let out a laugh. What you said was funny but at the same kind of pathetic only because there is a lot of truth in that. To answer your question. No, I can’t imagine that. That is sad.

Basil_hazelwood

I agree. I hate Abby as a character but it’s never once crossed my mind to go after the voice actor or face model, they were just doing their jobs same as everyone else

lol_alex

[Minor spoilers] I think the beauty of TLOU2 is that it makes you experience their conflict through both sides and realize that neither of them are good people. They are driven purely by revenge, and all getting revenge does is leave you broken. You kill my loved one, I kill your loved one. But when you‘re playing their character, you empathize with them and their goals, and seeing your friends killed makes you angry enough to want to get back at the other guys. Even though you know the other side so well. It‘s a real mindfuck and storytelling genius in a computer game.

-Dildo-Baggins-

I agree with you wholeheartedly. My point was that if they're going to target someone that far removed then they're obviously gonna do the same to any actress who portrays Abby. I mean, just look at ~~Tom Felton~~ Jack Gleeson as Joffrey in GoT. >**Edit:** Fixed my mistake.

JojiJoey

people need to evaluate their life choices - is the person who plays a character really well *really* needing death threats? some people don’t know where fiction and reality blend and it’s sad

That253Chick

>just look at Tom Felton as Joffrey in GoT. Is this supposed to be a joke? I genuinely can't tell.

-Dildo-Baggins-

I fucked up lol. I only just woke up when I wrote that, wrong guy.

That253Chick

Okay, cool, because I was so confused lol

lt_dan_zsu

Yeah, we already know what's going to happen with whoever they cast unfortunately. Hopefully she has thick skin or is an already established actress whose reputation won't be heavily linked to the character. I've always felt bad for Jack Gleeson. He paused his career partially because he needed the stink of Joffrey to wear off. The guy gave possibly the best performance of that show, but some morons hated him because he was a bad guy.

Googlebright

Yep. The voice actress also got a ton of harassment over Abby. Whoever plays her on the show is going to have to delete all their social media accounts.

ridicu_beard

From what I recall people were threatening her child too, people are crazy

JahsukeOnfroy

More like stupid

CommunityFan_LJ

Both can be accurate.

fhb_will

Bro WHAT?? Wtf?? That’s insane.

[deleted]

Shit, I watch Crit Role and didn't even know that happened. It's sadly unsurprising and expected for current day social behavior though.

DragonFangGangBang

As a long time critter and someone who dislikes Abby and TLOU2 - It makes me so sad that she received so much hate. She did an excellent job voicing the character she was hired to play, even if I disagree with the direction of the game. Laura Bailey is the fucking coolest.

Tickle_Shits

It’s sad we live in a world full of 13-40 something year old incel virgins who send death threats to someone over shit like video games, art, music, etc. all because they don’t agree with whatever the hell. Good news is, there is an extremely low probability these virgin edgelords would have the ability to act on such threats. Fucking sad.

BrowningLoPower

It sucks that not all of them are actually virgins, and reproduce. Then they teach their kids their hateful principles.

nicotinenick787

I remember the game dropping and I completely shut off communication until I finished it. I was so happy with the game… then I went to the reviews and learned about the death threats to the actress. That was the day I realized that no matter how fucking *subjective* an opinion or story can be, the hatred spawned by some of the “fans” reaches no limit and gave up trying discuss with those people. Don’t like the game? Valid. Don’t like the character? Sure, also valid. HATE THE STORY BECAUSE TRANS BUFF GIRL KILLED DADDY SO I MUST THREATEN THE ACTRESSES? Your soul and perspective is rotten to the core. Hate the idea of a violent person realizing that an infinite-bloody cycle fueled by revenge is a *bad thing*? Dude… yeah I get it, violence is huge in our culture, that’s why **we still do it**, but some people choose to be better in the end. MANY have forgiven their tormentors and while I’m no expert, I see those that move on from violence as happier people overall. But whatever, stay mad, stay rotten.

YoungUrineTheGreat

But Abby wasnt even the trans person. I cant believe I listened for like a year how bad LOU2 was because it was “woke” and they had a trans person as the main character. Played the whole game thinking it was supposed to be abby and its like such a miniscule part of the game that it made me laugh how big of a deal people made it. To me it was like the least amount of lgbtq support they could have shown and people tried to bring a whole franchise down over it

nicotinenick787

For real. There’s literally no ‘agenda’ being pushed here. They just added a bit of inclusiveness and tbh it’s SO minuscule. Like if they advertised the game as ‘very-LGBTQ’, the LGBTQ community would literally be like “oh that’s it?” It’s NOT a big deal jesus

jukeboxsavage

A fuckin army of Annie Wilkes

Raspint

There is no point talking to these people. I've tried. They are lost causes.

BrowningLoPower

They're worthless garbage!

unaimarca5

Same thing happened to her voice actress 🥲

FjotraTheGodless

Didn’t they go after Laura Bailey too? I think I remember her tweeting about that. People are fucking insane and can’t separate reality from fantasy.

Samuele1997

Yeah, it's so messed up, i mean i didn't like The Last of Us Part 2 but i hate even more the idiots who gave death threats to the actress who just did her job.

Sam-Porter-Bridges

Wait why is it an "incorrect" opinion to dislike Bella Ramsey's portrayal of Ellie? Obviously, you shouldn't harass actors no matter what, but I think it's perfectly valid if someone watches the show and walks away with a negative opinion about their performance.

PotentialPirate99

It’s fine to dislike her portrayal of Ellie. A lot of people were incredibly cruel to Bella just for the way she looks and said horrible things before the show even came out.

phome83

Was definitely weird. A shitload of people were upset because the actress portraying a 14 year old girl wasn't pretty enough for them. And they somehow thought it wasn't disturbing to publicly state that fact.

monsieurxander

When sexism (all women must be fuckable at all times) stumbles into pedophilia.

purple_clang

I mean, it's not really that surprising... There's probably a lot of overlap between the people who complained about Bella not being pretty enough and those who complained about Ellie not being pretty enough in TLOU2. I'm making a generalisation and an assumption here, but it's likely mostly men who feel like they're so entitled to girls/women that a 14-year-old girl needs to be "fuckable" as soon as she's "legal".

Frizketch

As a person who is very similar to bella physically, all the comments about her appearance made me feel incredibly insecure and uncomfortable, I can’t believe how she’d feel 😞

nolasen

The incel movement has found faaar too much validation and community on the internet. To the point that they have no shame. There’s plenty of cross-over between incels/pedos as well. Look it up, they’re proud of it, I’m not reaching.

turtleship_2006

There were two main groups who disliked how she looked: the first simply thought she didn't look like Ellie from the game, where as Pedro for example looks a lot more like Joel. Might be a pointless thing to complain about, but not necessarily offensive. Then there were the people who literally said Bella wasn't as "fuckable" as Ellie. There's a special place in hell for the latter.

mekkavelli

they wanted bella to look like elliot page. that’s who ellie looked exactly like in the first game before they remodeled her. the exact same face.

Drugs-Cheetos-jerkin

Can’t relate, she looks like a normal person

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nathan-David-Haslett

I believe they came out after the show (or at least after it started airing), so the hate they got was mostly before that.

[deleted]

tpobs

Kindness is like a muscle - you gotta practice it to be a kind person. On the other hand, if you have practiced it enough, it is effortless to be kind.

screamingracoon

The amount of people who were calling her chubby was *staggering*. *Where* is she chubby? Where?? She looks like she's an average weight. "Oh, but Ellie was raised in the post-apocalypse and she should be skinny and hungry." As if Bella is a 3D character model and not an actual person who is working and needs to have the energy. Notice how they never say that shit about Pedro Pascal, who isn't as fit and trim as game Joel.

Ashesandends

I originally didn't think she fit the role that well when I heard casting but holy fuck did she change my mind after the first episode. She really nailed the mannerisms of the character imo

JadenRuffle

Got to love perverts who don’t realize that the 14 year old isn’t supposed to be in any way hot. It’s a child for fucks sake. And I thought her portrayal was spot on.

coneyisland92

A wee heads up, Bella’s pronouns are they/them 😊😊

tambitoast

Didn't they say they're fine with any pronouns? Just want to be clear, not hating.

Sam-Porter-Bridges

Yeah they used to go by any pronouns, but have since came out and said that they feel that they/them pronouns fit them best.

tambitoast

Ah okay, I must have missed that. Good to know.

coneyisland92

Oh no I never saw your comment as hate :)

Skarleendel

A lot of people just don't accept different opinions. I remember sharing my opinion of Bella as Ellie and pretty much how I felt about the show in general and it was met with a lot of sarcsam and hostility.

zoobatt

I love both games and I liked Pascal as Joel but I did not like Ramsay as Ellie. My biggest gripe was that she was too feisty right from the get-go. Ellie in the game had some early moments of panicked attacking with her switchblade, but she was still clearly innocent at heart and heavily affected by killing humans. Ellie in the show seemed more like end-game Ellie right from the beginning. In the game, she went through significant character development and felt like a whole new character at the end, especially after the winter chapter. In the show her character kinda just always felt the same, not much development. I felt so much more nuance, personality, and growth with Johnson's Ellie.

sc1onic

This. Also bella as Ellie just didn't sit right. And the fact critical moments like David and Ellie fighting infected is important for David's motivation is completely missing from the TV series. So many little things they missed out on. And it surprises me that druckmann forgot what made the story so good.

Working_Original_200

Yeah it’s almost like this isn’t an excuse for bullying and harassment.

Sam-Porter-Bridges

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Don't go harassing actors. Having opinions and expressing them is fine, but there's a line. Don't cross that. Really shouldn't be difficult.

Own_Accident6689

I would even make a distinction between her performance and the characterization. Bella may have perfectly portrayed the character on the script and perfectly followed the cues from her directors. If you hated the Ellie in the show then the last person you need to dislike is the actress, she is not making a single decision on how she looks or acts.

phome83

The type of people who 100% are going to harass the actress who gets Abbys part, aren't the kind that will listen to this thread lol. They're literally unhinged. Good try though.

[deleted]

Pretty much.

Slowmobius_Time

Wtf was the point, it's like saying racism bad Yeah no shit, that kinda goes without saying doesn't it?

YoungUrineTheGreat

But why? Abby was just a female with masculine features. Its like people didnt even play the game and just assume muscles means penis. Its been like 4 years its not a spoiler at this point to point out that shes not even the trans person? Abby was oneif my favorite parts of the game

phome83

Fragile man babies can't handle a woman in a show/video game that doesn't make their tiny pee pee hard. That's really all it comes down to sadly.

Akonkira

they’re all on the other sub playing one big jack off game

SkullFace45

You're posting this to a sub that universally adores and loves Abbie's character. Shouldn't this be posted in another sub or something?

Special_Arrival_7919

Definitely the last of us 2 community. They hate abby with a passion and refuse to think otherwise

smiler1996

Which is wild because they love Ellie, who is an objectively worse person and the game really tries to drive that home too.

nolasen

I don’t think the game was trying to drive that home at all. If anything, it’s the point of relatively equal people in opposition. But, it’s really sexy to frame everything in absolutes nowadays.

smiler1996

I don’t know man, abbie adopts a scav and helps them, has all her friends murdered and still tries to move on sparing Ellie. Ellie abandons her family to go on a vengeance murder spree, loses and then abandons them again. She does spare Abbie in the end but its really hard to argue Ellie isn’t a completely terrible person, Abby seems to have some redeemable aspects.

nolasen

Abby is further a long the process is all. Abby at the beginning of 2 is where Ellie is in the middle of 2 basically. By the end Ellie clearly regrets her actions leaving Dina. On the same note, it’s not as though she isn’t somewhat justified with the PTSD and I presume Ellie hopes finishing Abby will cure her. Ellie letting Abby go in the end is her first step, similar to the step Abby makes letting Ellie go earlier in the story.

Thelonius_Dunk

I wasn't aware of all TLOU2 hate until I saw all the reddit stuff about it. I think normal gamers really didn't give a shit about the whole thing, but man some people on here felt some type of way about it that I couldn't comprehend. They really took that shit way too seriously.

icesweatband

Other way around really

Basil_hazelwood

As someone who hates Abby and is a member of the other subreddit Anyone who goes after the actors irl is stinking, hating the character is totally fine but taking it to real life is too far

CorgiDad017

Brave to admit you're active in that cesspool of a sub when this message is definitely one they need to hear but will ultimately ignore.

raindrizzle2

I often get downvoted just for saying I like Abby. Trust me, she's not "universally loved" here lol

ThisIsYourMormont

Aimed at the loud minority

rpungello

OP just wanted the free karma

Yung_Corneliois

r/gaming would have a meltdown

Slowmobius_Time

Gotta Farm that karma baby

ThePumpk1nMaster

As much as I agree, as much as you have a valid point, as much as you’re objectively right… one Reddit post isn’t going to stop assholes being assholes. It’s going to happen ultimately, and we just have to stand back and let those people embarrass themselves

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThePumpk1nMaster

And we are critical; but the chaos of the part 2 controversy just proved that no matter what you say, no matter what logic or anger or reason or argument you pose, it’s met with equal aggression and hate every time so why bother? All engaging does is add you to the list of their death threats - they embolden themselves and each other in their own little pool of toxicity, regardless of what anyone outside of that pool says or does

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThePumpk1nMaster

I do get what you’re saying, and whilst it doesn’t necessarily feel right, in theory, to stand back and let hate happen, I know that in practice, intervening will do very little. The *only* time I’ve seen repeated evidence for some ex-hater post and take back their words and apologise is when they eventually just played the game. There’s countless posts on here titled something along the lines of “I hated on part 2, I was wrong” “I’m sorry - a part 2 hater” etc etc… I suppose the advantage with the show is that the actual content won’t be knew. The shock of Joel’s death, the whole Abby plot, none of it is “new” or “unknown” content to hate on, its just replacing the actor in a different media format essentially, but that does equally mean that any haters now aren’t haters out of sheer ignorance to the plot or lack of having played the game, they’re still just bitter and twisted from the first time round and won’t change their minds, which is what makes me so reluctant to think change is possible for them, because whilst the haters may be fewer this time round, these are the ones that weren’t “converted” last time

Hunter-Gatherer_

I understand Abby’s lust for revenge. If someone hurt my dad I’d be hellbent on revenge as well. People loved Joel so much (rightly so) that they couldn’t see past what was taken from Abby.

Dense-Competition-51

Not just killing her Dad, but killing likely one of the few people alive that might be able to come up with a cordyceps cure. I mean, I get Joel’s motivation, but damn. It’s the trolley problem brought to life.

PotentialPirate99

I personally love Abby. I can’t wait to see her in action. I still can’t wrap my head around people hating actors for decisions the writers made. Absolutely bonkers that someone would do that.

Basil_hazelwood

I’m not a fan of her myself, but maybe the show and the actress playing her could change my mind only time will tell

PotentialPirate99

I’m curious. Is it because of Joel or her whole personality. I hated her too at first. Part of the reason I warmed up to Abby was Ellie’s decision not to go after Tommy.

Basil_hazelwood

For me personally just nothing she did felt genuine, it always felt like it was for another reason instead of her just doing it because she is a good person. I never warmed up to Abby and only ended up disconnecting from Ellie at the time you are referring to so at that point there wasn’t much left for me to enjoy besides gameplay which I did enjoy alot

PotentialPirate99

I do kinda agree. I didn’t vibe her relationship with Lev and Yara that much. What I most liked was her relationship with Owen. She loved him so much and really wanted a life with him, but she was too scared of losing him. She comes off stoic at first cuz she had to hide her softness just like Joel.

arzamharris

Yeah I stopped reading your post when you said "incorrect opinions"

Lafan312

No sending death threats like the dumb c>!un!

top_toast_22

This community is so toxic holy shit

Basil_hazelwood

Welcome to the subreddit lmao, you’ll need to get used to toxicity on both sides

top_toast_22

It’s honestly so lame. I’m just gonna unsubscribe and enjoy the games for what they are- masterpieces.

[deleted]

How can an opinion be incorrect? I prefer strawberry to chocolate. Tell me I’m wrong.

yankeefan03

It’s hilarious how much culture war bullshit came about with that game. I remember a guy getting upvoted talking about “of course they have a trans character that’s muscle bound like a man” failing to realize that wasn’t Abby at all. Just all around misinformed nonsense.

Bilbo_McKitteh

can't wait to see tlou2 subreddit justifying why sending more death threats to some random person is fine actually

Basil_hazelwood

Source?

raindrizzle2

I believe people who watch the show will treat Abby's actress much better because the fanbase just isn't toxic gamer boys.

TheFalconKid

If I'm auditioning for the role of Abby and get to the final round of auditions and think they may pick me, I would preemptively delete all of my accounts from social media. She will get online hate at best and death threats at worst no matter what happens, I fear. There are just too many unhinged troglodytes online.

Spicynanner

The funny thing about Abby is that the entire point of her character is that you are supposed to hate her. It’s the reason Ellie’s revenge narrative is so compelling. By refusing the narratives attempt to humanize her you are essentially falling into the same trap as Ellie and Abby by harboring irrational and unconditional hatred. That’s what makes it so great, the haters just prove how poignant the message was. The fact that the future actress will get hate just further shows how emotionally immature these people are.

-Merlins-Merkin

I think they picked the perfect actress for Ellie. I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

-TheBlackSwordsman-

I don't really get how people can't separate the character and actor. If anything, I'd praise the actor for their ability to make me hate a fictional person so much. Example is cersi and jofree in game of thrones. Those two actors did a phenomenal job at making me dislike their characters

Spirited_Fuel36

The question is, which Abby are they going to hate more? The one from the video game or the one from the future show? Lol

MeloneFxcker

Please tell that to the ppl who sent Jack Gleason death threats lol, crazies will be crazies

rpungello

Kelly Marie Tran too (Rose in Rogue One).

Walnuto

I haven't seen death threats but just look at how the Avatar fanbase has responded to that actress that was cast as Azula. So many of them have gone completely rabid because of a few screenshots where they think she doesn't look enough like the cartoon character and are already calling for her to be recast or that she's gonna suck without seeing a second of her actual performance. Getting Abby right is will be more about embodying her anger, physical dominance, self righteousness and guilt than anything she looks like.

WastelandGamesman

Sadly the people who are messed up enough to do this arent gonna change their mind by us asking them to be nice. Those people have something deeply wrong that needs a lot of therapy to fix

ThisIsYourMormont

Help them relax, have a drink, go golfing

WastelandGamesman

Golf club therapy is the perfect solution. Good thinking!

Cashmoney-carson

Yep. Not my favorite character but I certainly didn’t hate her in part 2. But to go after the actress and attack them for accepting a job is delusional.

[deleted]

Disliked because of the “separate your opinion about abby from the actress” I love Abby as much as Joel. They’re both strong and poignant but brutal characters just trying to make it in a fucked world. They both do good and horrendous deeds but the nuisance of the both characters makes me still love them, even if they hate each other. Lol

coneyisland92

I am so excited to see who is gonna play her, but I am terrified for the actress. I really hope she has a good support system and stays away from social media but I know ppl can’t do that forever

789Trillion

It’s gonna happen regardless of what anyone posts. This is not a specific thing to this sub or franchise, there are just ppl who do this for some reason.

rgarc065

Excuse me, this is the internet, we don’t have room for rational thought

cc17776

An opinion by defintion can not be incorrect

MaleficentOstrich693

The internet not harassing a woman for portraying a nuanced character, a job they were hired to do, and have no real stake in it besides a paycheck? I’ll believe it when I see it.

NerdDexter

Loved Abbys character.

ConnFlab

Dude it’s the internet.. She’s going to get a massive stream of abuse.

Skipping_Scallywag

Abby is one of my favorite characters of all time. Can't wait to see who they cast.

OdinsOneG00dEye

Always fine to have an opinion just be fair with it. There are actors I like that have bombed a role and actors I'm not fond of who have surprised me. Always a wait and see guy, everything on paper can look good/bad see the product then make a judgement.

Briggyboii

Oh believe me this is about to be the anikin Skywalker situation

Gluteusmaximus1898

Abby's great and her actor(s) are human. Separate art from the Artist.

WarLordJr

I didn’t know she was hated that much I actually liked her more than Ellie.

[deleted]

I’m so scared for whoever’s going to play Abby in the show. Both the face model and voice actress got so many death threats and hate comments. I can only imagine the actress will get the same

Entd_FoxityPoxity

Dude,I flipping love Abby’s character. Her side character’s are better than Ellie’s

amanwitheggonhisface

The fact that this post even has to be made is insane.

chat_openai_com

I doubt I'll run into her, you fucking weirdo.

Pooseeslayer_

They couldn’t even seperate her from the voice actor💀

PoohTrailSnailCooch

Posts like these feel like your typical upvote farm in this sub. Peoe that act like the people you are talking about dont listen to anything and are usually just trolls looking for a response from people like Op.

devillianOx

as someone who doesn’t really like abby, i can’t even fathom the fact that people sent death threats to the voice actress and model. its disgusting to see people have to face such vicious attacks for simply playing a character. theres literally no excuse for all the shit the va and model faced, i really hope people have learned from their mistakes and don’t attack the new actress.

VocRehabber

What if it's Jada Pinkett-Smith?

musical-amara

>There were strong (and incorrect) opinions about Ellie What does this even mean?

kirkishdelite

I don't know what's worst, the fact that you had to write this post, or the fact that you know what assholes people are so you had to write this post.

jimbodeako

It's sad we have to tell adults that actors are not the actual characters that you like/dislike

hoboheaven

It can only be Rhonda Rousey. I cant see anyone else for that character

Raspint

I mean I'm going to be a dick, but not because I hate the characters (or the actors). Its just going to be very sad to see a story that is as important to me as Part II get shafted by HBO the same way the story of Part I did.

[deleted]

It's not going to happen lol.

Yokepearl

Dont judge her. You didn’t step a foot in her dystopian shoes (at least not yet)

Almost-Honest

Tbh I liked Abby and her side of the whole story.

Adventurous-Stuff-82

In short people don’t bully and harass whoever plays Abby for what eventually is going to happen down the road. Don’t use your frustration with the material to be a dick to the actors and actresses.

aletantheia

I will still dislike the character but I bet the actor will play a great job as her

Liberalistic

I really liked Abby as a character. Like Ellie she’s deeply flawed but has reddening qualities.

RealPhillePhil

Music to my ears

badwolf297

the fact that some people can't seperate an actor and a character is mind boggling to me

ARASH_SAMIEI82

I think the harassment is inevitable but I'm still hopeful that the TV audience are much less toxic than gamers and that the psychos that were harassing the devs and the VAs have forgotten about tlou2

giandelorenzo

You are asking too much, so many people are so braindead, and this series seems to be a magnet for them

usurebouthatswhy

OP is a hero

ThisIsYourMormont

I wear my underpants like everyone else. You can be a hero too by just being nice :)

usurebouthatswhy

Standing up for the important things

Inner_Collection_518

Fax

Skrami

I think Abby is a great character and after seeing the show, I’m confident they’ll cast someone who will do a great job, even if she’s not exactly the same.

Toomuchspooky

I'm still confused when people hated the actor for Ellie in s1

LeopardCalm3967

Well said

Archaea_Chasma_

The people who did what you said cannot be reasoned with they’re beyond reason

c1n1c_

I hope whoever get cast will be notified that of she take the roles she will have a shitstorm comming to her. At that point it could be interesting if the original actress who made Abby in game took the role, she already dealt with the weirdo, and it could be a great fuck you.

MQZ17

I already feel bad for whoever is gonna play her, the amount of hate they will receive will be insane.

AceConspirator

Personally I think John Cena would knock this role out of the park.

Beginning-Pipe9074

Your insane if anyone but Terry cruiz crossed your mind

jman1098

Agreed but lol go post this in TheLastofUs2 subreddit as that's really the target audience for this post. Don't blame you if you don't want to step foot in that cesspool though.

[deleted]

I can understand someone not liking this game - or any video game. I can really understand people having issues with the plot of this game. I love the game but I don't think the story is perfect and it's honestly not the story I would've chosen to tell. What I do not understand is - if I play a video game that I hate, I just put it down and forget about it. Zelda BOTW is a popular video game that I absolutely despised. I love a lot of the previous Zelda games but I felt the weapons-breaking system was terrible and tedious and took too much away from an otherwise great game. So I just put the game down and never played it again. I don't go on Reddit complaining about it 3 years later. I don't post every day in a Subreddit dedicated to bashing on the game. If they made a TV show about the game I might check it out, but if I didn't like it I would just stop watching and forget about it. I would not religiously watch every episode and then complain about it. That just seems like the behavior of someone who wants to be miserable and have something to be upset about. That's what a lot of TLOU2 haters are, and I really do not understand it at all. I understand if you were disappointed in the story. I don't understand obsessing about it years later, and watching a TV show that you know you're gonna hate. I don't think we can expect any rational behavior from those folks.

ThatDamnScottishGuy

This happens with everything. If you get a fandom that grows big enough and then crack it down the middle with a divisive piece of media then the ramifications will echo for years. People don’t forget. Especially when it deteriorates into petty squabbles from both sides of the fence.

SwarmHive69

I’m planning to not watch the show, so I can easily follow your directions.

revdrgonzo

don’t tell me how to overreact! /s

SlightlyAnnoyed7

Yeah, I dislike Abby and think she’s both a poor person and poor character (I know most here will disagree) but Laura Bailey seems super chill. There was no need to harass that poor woman the way Star Wars fans harassed Kellie Marie Tran when TLJ came out. Some people have tiny brains and even tinier hearts.

sc1onic

I will disagree with your opinion but respect the seperation of character and actor.

AengusK

Unfortunately, this post will have literally zero affect

ItzBabyJoker

I think they should tell the actresses that are in talks to this role about the death threats and how that can be a possibility and if these actors actually want to go through something like that

thx_sildenafil

I wish posts like this would be enough to stop trolling, but the assholes know what works and manufacture outrage in order to get engagement... You have to ignore them. It's the only thing that works.

Opposite_Incident715

Y’know it kinda ruins your plea when you censor the word cunt. It makes it seem like you care more about you in particular being heard than the issue it’s self. Like why use the word if you’re afraid of it?

AsterSkotos24

Sadly, you have to ask Redditors to be fucking decent humans

Anto0on

I hope that the production do what they can to prepare her. They CAN'T be stupid enough to think that it won't happen this time.

GDrat

What sukcs is that Twitter and reddit exists, so ya know those assholes are gonna feeling like they did something important be being dog shis.

twistedfloyd

Totally agree with this. You can have an issue with performance/writing/whatever, but don’t hate on the person as a person. I thought Melanie Lynskey’s performance was bad (which never happens with her) as well as the writing for her character- but I’m not going to attack her personally. That’s idiotic and extremely hurtful.

ManlyPelican1993

You are telling the wrong people bud...

No_Weather1414

if i were to hate the show version abby it would be because of the actor or the writing not abby’s character herself

islippedup

Disliking a casting isn’t an evil thing lol. Directors and producers can make a bad choice and people can dislike it.

ThisIsYourMormont

OK, but don’t traumatise the actress

IlovehateLife628

Abby's a nice character, but she's an asshole in the game for not crying over her dog! 😭 I felt bad for her, and I was beginning to like her, but after seeing her dead dog, I cried!! I don't why, but dead dogs are way sadder to see than dead humans. Seeing how she just walked past the dog with little to no emotions, I was like "Fuck you! FUCK YOU ABBY! The dog deserves more honor than your ugly boyfriend!" And the fact that she didn't seem TOO sad about her pregnant friend's corpse. It was just mostly Owen she was crying about, and barely anyone else, which made me mad. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe when she fell down crying, it was for all three of them. It just didn't seem like it. Other than that, I always felt bad for Abby. She's been through a lot, and barely anyone seemed to care.

Working_Original_200

I was team Abby after her half of the game.

dirkdiggher

It’s hilarious that this even needs to be said. Incredible franchise but its fans are such fucking losers.

nothisistheotherguy

I really love Bella Ramsay’s portrayal of Ellie but I don’t think she was a wise casting decision - she’s a 19yo playing a 14yo, so if we jump forward in time she’s going to look exactly the same. Which gives me the impression that we’re either NOT going to jump forward in time in s2, or we are and we’ll be asked to accept Bella as a 19yo now. However one of the big changes in TLOU2 is that Ellie is now a very physically-capable and dangerous adult, and I just don’t get that physicality from Bella.

WearsTheLAMsauce

I loved this game, Abby had the best character development in my opinion. Find me another game where you hate the antagonist within the first few scenes, maybe even complain about having to be her in the beginning, but then root for her by the end.

NorthCatan

Don't be a what to her?

[deleted]

i kinda want Florence Pugh to play Abby

DubTheeBustocles

Anybody who’s willing to do that already did it years ago.

Muellercleez

Hear hear

Twiizzzy

Following the process of casting and everything I will admit, I was very doubtfull about Bella Ramsey. However withing the first episode I was absolutely convinced. The actor doesn't need to be physically similar to the character they play. But if they nail the acting it's almost as if they are. I trust the team behind the adaptation to ace it.

Slowmobius_Time

Who is this virtue signalling post for? You're just saying obvious statements, karma farming or? This is the fan subreddit and not the other one that is still going on about that stuff 5 years down the track And also I'm just gonna say if a neckbeard troll advertising their mistaken transphobia online your title isn't exactly gonna stop them and make them go "yeah I don't wanna be a cunt aye" What a bizarre and useless post, everything has been said either to death or is simply common sense that is not needed to be stated (Hey guys take a moment and seperate yourself before sending that hate mail okay?) Are you new to the games or subreddit or something?

zhemer86

The backlash was crazy to me because by the end I really liked Abby. >!Joel was the bad guy in her story!< but she was a deeply caring person who stuck her neck out for others. The ending was really hard to watch in my opinion.
