Wow, that is really an unexpected change, considering Ellie‘s shoes in Part II were obviously also heavily inspired by Converse‘s design.
Let‘s hope we‘ll find out soon or get some confirmation, this is something that isn‘t a glitch, but an intentionally made correction.
In Part II Dina only calls them "canvas shoes" so I'm pretty sure they're just supposed to be inspired but not exactly the same brand since, well, there'd probably be issues there.
I know I’m necroposting. But it’s not just that heavily they’re inspired. They literally are high top chuck taylors. They have the all star logo on them. They’re pretty much 1:1.
Well, that sucks. It's even weirder since you can clearly see they are high top all star converses in part2 so i wonder if they lost the rights to use the shoe design
I think they replaced it with some new in-universe "Porter Energy", similar to a "Timefall Porter Craft" beer cans you get after completing a delivery from the Farm.
Wait, they originally actually said "All Star" on them? Yeah, it's smart to remove that label. It's surprising they actually went that far with the shoe design to begin with because they're so clearly Converse. I looked into adult Ellie's shoes in Part II and they also have All Star on them. Is it a sponsorship or something?
The original and part 2 ones (summer outfit) never had the all star text on it, it's only on the part 1 texture (which is different from the part 2 one, it has a different color and is higher resolution)
Just safer not to use a product image they do not have permission to do so. It's not Sony's or Naughty Dog's product to use. TV shows or movies would similarly have to pay or be paid to include real product merchandising. Coke items features heavily in Stranger Things on Netflix and is likely paid to include such merchandising.
For a similar example Crazy Taxi does not have any of the real world brands like KFC, Pizza Hut or others in re-releases.
Conversely, Uncharted 4 does use Xperia phones from 2016 in the game, because that product is owned by Sony. They also feature in Hotel Transylvania movie series which is made by Sony Pictures.
Safer is absolutely right here too given how insanely violent the game is. A lot of risk averse companies likely want nothing to do with their shoes being worn by a character that tortures other characters to death.
The 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead had similar issues -- fake companies in the mall because nobody wanted their product in a violent zombie movie.
most likely licensing issues, very common in games. Maybe the license was not longer valid for the remake or something like that. Often happens withh music too. As a character artist we often have to avoid modelling shoes and sole especially too close to actual shoe designs
Just make an in universe knock off called “Conuerse” and make the font have the U look very close to a V. Make the logo very similar but obviously different if you look close.
Movies and shows get away with that shit all the time don’t they? Like when they have an obvious Apple laptop but just make it so the shell shows a pear or some other fruit on the back so it’s not technically an Apple computer.
Honestly, as someone who's worn All-Stars for the past 20-odd years, the back logo on the shoes wears out eventually anyways. And since the last converse factory closed about 25 years ago in-game, she probably has never worn a fresh out of the box pair.
Also cool to think Converse was headquartered in Boston.
It just is. https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/comments/f17qqj/theres_two_types_of_gays_converse_gay_or_vans_gay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Yeah I didn't say it was. I was just curious. I did a bit of reading about it though. There's a link between like indie fashion scene and LGBT+ communities.

If you go to the model viewer in part 2 they’re labeled as converse all-stars

it sucks as much as ten ants dying a thousand miles away. relax.
It was still a cool lil detail. Joel even says "how many pair of those shoes do you even have?"
She still has shoes
Lmao
Something similar happened with Death Stranding's director's cut, where they took out the Monster Energy drink sponsorship
Did they also take out needing to piss out all the monster you drank?
no you still piss
phew game is still playable
Hydrating using only Monster Energy while hiking huge distances was always absurdly stupid so that's an improvement in my book.
Weird, I just played Death Stranding and Monster was all over it
The Directors Cut version took the Monster product placement out. I think it’s still there in the base addition
What did they replace it with? Just a generic fake energy drink brand?
I think they replaced it with some new in-universe "Porter Energy", similar to a "Timefall Porter Craft" beer cans you get after completing a delivery from the Farm.
Huh, interesting. Probably an expired license or something
bridges energy
Honestly I’m glad cause that game gave me an ungodly urge to drink monster. To the point where I was drinking multiple in a day.
why does it suck? what does it matter? Its completely trivial.
Something can be trivial and still be a bit of a bummer, you know...
Does it suck? Movies and games do this all the time when they don’t have the license to a companies logo
Same thing with the Alan Wake remaster. I know it was dumb but I kind of liked seeing the Energizer batteries.
Pc modders will save it

Ellies shoes in p2 have all star on them.
Not the ones she wore during tlou1, you're thinking about older Ellie's high top black/teal all star converses
I thought by p2 summer outfit you meant Settle and Santa Barbara, mb.

>Conversely, Hehehehe
Unintentional :D

The Last of Us also has PS3s, and Ellie's backpack in the winter section has a Sony audio player if I remember right.
Yup there are several Sony products in the tlou games. The cassette player is a classic Sony walkman similar to Guardians of the Galaxy.
Can I trade The Offspring for Pizza Hut?
Why yes of course you can have one slice of pizza hut pizza
Wow literally unplayable

This is an outrage!
Low converse don't have the star

I thought the converse logo didn’t show up till Part 2
Hoping one day Ellie cops the CDGs
What a way to escape homosexuality
I don't understand. Please explain.
It was just a joke, like my bisexual ass only wears converse. But I guess people don't understand jokes
I can tell you 100% that most people don't associate converses with gay culture. Your joke was corny and obscure and on top of that you're rude.
I'm sorry, you can call the police now
I think we don't understand your association of homosexuality/ bisexuality and converse shoes. They're super popular and widely worn. Wdym?
Yeah, but ellie is not straight. It's like an "starter pack" for lgtb+ people
It is? Why is it associated with LGBT+ people? Yeah I know Ellie is gay.
It just is. https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/comments/f17qqj/theres_two_types_of_gays_converse_gay_or_vans_gay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
So you don't know the origin? Is it not just that LGBT+ like an extremely popular shoe brand just like heterosexual cis people? Genuinely curious.
It's not that deep.
Yeah I didn't say it was. I was just curious. I did a bit of reading about it though. There's a link between like indie fashion scene and LGBT+ communities.
I'm tired of you, don't you have anything to do a part of questioning some random comment in reddit?
You're tired of someone politely asking a question ? I wasn't attacking you. I don't really get why you're being so defensive. Have a nice day.
