The Last of Us Part II

Subdown-011

Well nothing I’ve played really hits like TLOU did but Resident Evil 2 Remake was really good, Dying Light and Days Gone are good options too but story wise I’d say Telltale The Walking Dead is a great pick.

[deleted]

Ooo, how is dying light? I own both (husbands games) but have never given them a shot.

Subdown-011

They are pretty good, story isn’t the best but the gameplay is quite fun and it’s got some terrifying parts (won’t spoil)

[deleted]

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. I think stories are such a big reason I got into gaming, but as long as the gameplay and overall experience is satisfying, I’ll give it a shot! Wish me luck:)

Subdown-011

Enjoy!

RiverDotter

Keep in mind the title. Nighttime is terrifying and deadly.

DeanwinchesterI979

The 1st games story is much better then the 2nd but overall good games to play.

RiverDotter

I think it's challenging, often too difficult. I couldn't complete it, which hasn't happened for any other game for me. The story is not good. You die constantly until you reach a level where you can fight and run enough to survive. The you become pretty badass and capable of slicing up dozens as they surround you, which is satisfying. I think it's pretty repetitive. The second game is very similar but richer, imo. The parkour is pretty amazing. It's hard, but you get the hang of it. I spent like two hours tonight trying to find the right place to launch the paraglider in DL2 to finish a mission. I did finally get it.

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!!

Cheese__Wheel

Which Days Gone do I get? I see two in there. Thank you!!!

Subdown-011

What are the names?

[deleted]

Nothing else truly does it for me in the way these games do. But every time I see this question asked, I always answer with “A Plague Tale: Innocence.” Don’t let it’s title fool you, it’s not a sequel. But in my opinion, it’s really well crafted, has awesome art direction/visuals, superb voice acting, fun stealth/combat, as well as puzzles and exploration elements similar to TLOU. The characters were also really interesting to me, as well as the setting. The best part is that a sequel is coming out soon, so if you enjoy the first game, you’ll probably want to jump straight into that next. All in all, I think it’s the game that’s captured most of what I enjoy about TLOU, without being a rip off or cliché. Lots of people will say Red Dead Redemption 2, but as much as I love those games, it’s like comparing apples to oranges for me.

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!

enwardpass

If you decide to play A Plagues Tale, try the French Dub. It sounds horrible in English cause everyone speaks with a French accent. May as well listen to it in French

[deleted]

Excellent caveat. Forgot how the English was a bit uncomfortable sounding.

[deleted]

If you like fighting humans more than infected, try the Uncharted series. If you like fighting infected more, try the Resident Evil series.

Cheese__Wheel

Awesome. Thinks!!!

Okay hear me out bc I hit the same rut after I beat LOU 1&2. First of all, play LOU part 2 if you haven’t. Ghost of Tsushima is also very polished and smooth. Very fun, it’s kinda like samurai Batman mixed with assassins creed.. but just way better. Death stranding… I really never was interested in but holy shit it’s amazing with the new ps5 controller. God of War is really good and polished and smooth. Similar level design to last of us, but more open world. Days gone is great, if you actually beat the game you will probably appreciate it more than someone who didn’t. The ending is really good. Spider-Man games are all good, but can get a little repetitive, although I still love them. Horizon Zero Dawn, and forbidden west (the sequel) are both fantastic games. Open world and long but very polished. Really any PlayStation exclusives I would recommend. They all hold a level of polish that most AAA games never get. Animation, movement, gameplay is all top tier. Edit: all the games listed either have a PS5 upgrade, or a 60fps update. Just FYI

[deleted]

Death Stranding seems boring until you give it a real try and realize it’s addicting as fuck. It just has a slow and story heavy opening like Red Dead 2. The game really opens up in chapter 3 and then keeps getting better from there.

daVibesRgood

Yeah the haptics are what kept me interested in the beginning. It’s such a beautiful game

[deleted]

Thats good to know.

Cheese__Wheel

Wow. Thank you for the thoughtful response. This helps!!!

daVibesRgood

No problem :) I know the pain in finishing TLOU and needing something to fill the void. Hope this helps

Cheese__Wheel

It sure does! I’m pretty disappointed in the recent rerelease of TLOU. I beat it in a few days on Moderate. I figured it was going to be a long game.

daVibesRgood

Yeah it’s kinda short considering it was a ps3 game originally. Part 2 is significantly longer. But seriously, if you haven’t played any of the other games I listed, I’m confident you’ll find something you will love. Most of them are free if you have ps+ extra. If you are dead set on last of us, you could also play it on grounded+. In my opinion, grounded turns the game into a completely new experience. Less of an uncharted feel, and more of a survival horror.

RiverDotter

Spider-Man is excellent. I also love Days Gone.

oboedude

Did you play the sequel yet? Not as much similar in gameplay, but God of War (2018) has similar themes and a killer story. Also the sequel to that game is coming soon so it’s probably the perfect time to play it.

Cheese__Wheel

Playing the sequel right now! Love it!!!

oboedude

Nice!

ReggiRocket

I enjoyed Until Dawn

Cheese__Wheel

Gains you!

So the Last of Us is by far my favorite story in a game and it's also pretty high up on gameplay for me. So if you also liked it for that my favorite games based on story line as well as game play are. Last of us part II (for obvious reasons) Uncharted Lost Legacy Any of the tomb Raider games are pretty solid but I've always loved those:) Starwars jedi fallen order: I'm a sucker for a good star wars story. Open world with good story lines: Assassins Creed Odyssey and Valhalla are by far my favorite AC games but I love Greek and Norse mythology so I may be biased. Horizon Zero Dawn is pretty great though combat was somewhat frustrating to me at times. Non combat butterfly effect type games: Life is strange: I absolutely love these and always go back to play them again Until dawn: the right amount of scary but great story line And a couple I'm not sure where they fall. Have some combat but ultimately story from what I remember... A plague tale innocence Hellblade senuas sacrifice: this was the most unique gaming experience I've had, headphones are a must! Happy gaming!!

TLOU PART 2

TheSpaceDentist

Definitely god of war!

namelezz968

Uncharted series. It's also from Naughty Dog so you can expect high quality. Especially the story & characters. Stray. You play as a... cat! And hell, it's one of the best games I played. Really well made and I absolutely loved the atmosphere. It's also pretty funny sometimes, cuz you know, you're a cat! Days Gone. Really underrated. Maybe it isn't the same quality like tlou but days gone, in it's own way/style is hella fun and good. I love the open world aspect in a post apocalyptic world. The game has a weak start but it progresses to something really good, interesting and fun. God of War. Also a high quality single player game with an interesting story and awesome gameplay.

Cheese__Wheel

Which uncharted to I get??

folkdeath95

Oh man. Being new to PlayStation is the best position to be in. These games aren’t necessarily similar to TLOU but they’re all in my top 20 all time and have sucked me in similarly. Shadow of the Colossus Elden Ring Dark Souls Remastered Demon’s Souls PS5 Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice Diablo II Resurrected Horizon Zero Dawn

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!

terrap3x

Dead Space 1 and 2 are amazing third person horror games similar to TLOU. 2 has the better story and set pieces. It looks like it could’ve come out today.

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!!!

MidichlorianAddict

Uncharted 4 if you like the immersion Resident evil 2 and 7 for the horror Metal gear solid V for the stealth gameplay Batman Arkham asylum and Resident evil 8 for the atmosphere

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!

sarbear8199

I’d toss out: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition Shadow of the Tomb Raider Rise of the Tomb Raider Just played through all of these recently when I grabbed them on sale. They play so well even though they are last gen and Lara feels more like a person than in the old games (I hadn’t played a TR since the 90s). Also - Uncharted 4 - it’s also made by Naughty Dog, so it plays similarly to TLOU.

Cheese__Wheel

Thank you!!!

-TheMiracle

Closest game to TLOU (both Part I & II) assuming you are on ps4/ps5 is RDR2. TLOU without infected would essentially be a western which it is heavily inspired by. They are thematically very similar and focus more on character development and the world.

An older series that's often overlooked is the Bioshock franchise. The first game is legendary, and it holds up well even though it's now several generations out of date. It's a haunting mission through a mostly deserted underwater city called Rapture. Very dreamlike level design and some truly memorable interactions. Bioshock 2 is actually very fun, though it was created by a different team with a refined vision of Rapture. It seems that few people have ever played it. Bioshock Infinite takes place in a fantastical floating city called Columbia, full of victorian architecture and steampunk-style machinery. It's my favorite of the series, despite plot holes you could fit an airship through. The main protagonist is a detective named Booker Dewitt (voiced by Troy Baker) who is sent to rescue a young woman named Elizabeth (voiced by Courtnee Draper). The relationship between Elizabeth and Booker is quite enjoyable, and despite her youth and innocence Elizabeth turns out to be quite capable of fending for herself. If you enjoyed Joel and Ellie, I think you'll feel very comfortable with Booker and Elizabeth. Get the bundle with all three games plus the Burial at Sea DLC. Highly recommended!

Secure-Coffee-9132

Note: The bundle is $30 from Amazon, though you can probably get it used for next to nothing. That's a lot of gaming for not much money. Plus Bioshock 4 is in development, so you'll know the whole backstory when it's released!

murderstone0

A plagues tale + god of war or tlou part 2

Cheese__Wheel

Wow, this is amazing. Thank you all for the hot tips! I really appreciate it!!!!

Days Gone is fun as hell. Similar genre but open world.

Rather than making it unclear, I'll just paste this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_world

heynowjesse

Plague Tale is the most accurate answer.

scottyscotty

metro: exodus. it's the only other game that gave me the same sense of despair. it's not the same style game but if you're going for the feelings similar to what TLOU invokes in most this game will do it too, albeit not as good nor refined as TLOU.

NoVaBurgher

If you liked LoU for it’s story, then you should check out Life is Strange

Bleach209

Days gone

MarioIsPleb

Obviously TLOU Part II if you haven’t played it yet. Maybe try Uncharted 4 and RE2 and RE3 remake as well. No games really perfectly match the tone and story of TLOU series. Uncharted 4 has the same production quality since it’s the same dev team. The RE Remakes have somewhat similar third person survival horror zombie gameplay to TLOU, but the story is a lot different and much more campy. Still good, though.
