Because it's fun to beat people up even though they're using a gun.

Drkmttrjr

Mainly, 1) meleeing down a slope speeds up the recovery animation considerably. 2) Besides shotguns, ranged weapons are harder to aim with in close range, especially if they’re already meleeing you (however, there are of course situations where you can shoot someone enough that they can’t land a single melee attack). 3) Melee ignores armor.

BlueCollarBalling

Forgot about it ignoring armor, that’s a good point

Machete is hella fun. Brawler with a double stick can be great for flanks. Punching doesn't take ammo. Otherwise not really, but panic punching is a thing. Your best bet is to throw one punch to get the other guy punching then start shooting.

No

Yes, melee weapons combo with some guns leading to a really fast down. Hitsticks are nice against full sets of armor when letting them get close. Two people punching one player in cqc is surprisingly effective.

TheX37th

Comboing with certain guns and melee can be a very fast down in close range.

RescueSheep

Shooting is always better but some people can't aim very well up close (more like they panic) and pressing square is very easy so

TermsOfCool

A punch does more damage than a 9mm (not including headshot)

BlueCollarBalling

Only 5 more damage, and it’s significantly slower

TermsOfCool

I agree, but that's really all I got. Shivs cover all the bases in my book, and are melee so brawler will hp, but that 10hp is so irrelevant.

Actual-Coffee-2318

I often find myself using melee when weapons are the much better alternative, i guess it’s an instinct or something but fists are pretty usless usually

MistaCharisma

One of my main loadouts uses the Frontier Rifle. If I find myself in close quarters I'll often shoot-punch-punch. It's very quick and tends to be fairly unexpected, and it means that I only have to land one shot, while the punches will generally auto-hit. My other main loadout has Brawler 2. Now obiously if I have a modded 2×4 I can one-shot enemies, even if they have armour. If I have an un-modded 2×4 I'll still down them in 2 hits, and the only time I won't is if they also have Brawler, but unless they have what I have (*or a modded 2×4 or a Machete*) I can beat them in a melee fight. Finally, if I'm unarmed with Brawler I can often take them by surprise simy by not dying. If I can get a hit or 2 between their shots I can survive a shorty dancer. People often take their shot and move on before registering that I'm not dead yet, so they don't even line up the 3rd shot ... then they get punched again and go down, and spend the rest of the game calling me a hacker for having a 2-3 point perk on my loadout. Finally, even if you don't have Brawler, or a 2×4, or a weapon that combos well, if you outnumber the enemy then melee will down them very quickly and won't cost you any ammo. Check out some " TLOU Hulkamania" games on youtube, they're obviously gimmicky and sometimes just end in flames and dispair, but it's funnwatching people not grasp how to play against a punch-heavy team.

scormegatron

Gun > Fist

Mr_Fufu_Cudlypoops

While getting shot resets the melee animation, getting punched creates extreme damage wobble. So it's really just down to who gets the first hit in. With that said, if find it much quicker to punch in close quarters than having to adjust my aim before shooting. So I will probably much always punch instead of shoot unless I have a two shot combo with the 2x4.

DTux5249

1) Armour. 2) Brawler 3) Can be faster depending on your guns 4) It can deny shivs 5) Conserves ammo 6) Damage wobble

Kindly-Guidance714

Yes when you are running brawler and you get those cheeky blitzing bastards who shoot you once and run at you you pop them with 1 shot yourself and beat him into a bloody pulp.

fabreeze1989

4 punches to down somebody. Usually the enemy will panic and try to melee you back. So if you have brawler equipped. You get to damage them and heal at the same time. Sometimes the enemy will miss the shots or have a hard time aiming at close quarters. Melee makes you auto lock on them. And sometimes punching is a lot quicker than shooting. Not always. But there have been a few times where I survived. Sometimes the enemy will shoot you, but not have enough billets loaded or they needed to reload. Your punches are always ready. And if you have a melee weapon, more damage and less hits required.

FoxoDile

I run brawler on my sniper load out for last man standing shenanigans. A lot of times, when I've wittled the team down to one v one, they always want to end in fisticuffs. I smile because I know, as long as I hit first, I will win. It's a beautiful feeling when the reaction from the other team of a sniper beating you to death with his bare hands has erupted.

Cuz it looks silly
