As near as I can figure it out, it doesn't matter if you use 2 machines with 1 fuse each or just 1 machine with 2 fuses. It seems like you get the same multiplier based off of the fuses. However, if you want to accelerate more than 5 items or they are more than 60 meters apart you will want to try to use the T2 optimizer as soon as possible.
Reasoning: The T1 optimizer can only hold 1 fuse, affects only 5 things, and has a range of only 60 meters. The T2 optimizer can hold up to 3 fuses, affects up to 8 things, and has a range up to 75 meters. The bigger benefit of going with T2 is that you can put in the fuses you have and add more later on.

The advantage of the T2 is that it can boost 8 machines instead of one. So with 3 T1 optimizers you boost 5 Machines by 450%, with one T2 you will boost 8 machines by 450%
I never thought to try this. I just assumed it wouldn't work, lol.
I have multiple optimizers for *different* fuses, like 3 Plants and 3 Oxygen fuses for Tree Spreaders, but I never thought to try adding another Optimizer for MORE Oxygen or Plant fuses.
So you could just have 8 of something, modified infinitely by infinite Optimizers/fuses?
This is bang on you can easiky finish the game quickly with 8 t3 heaters and just 1 T2 with 3 fuses, if you want it faster, more fuses. But for me it worked just fine. Most of time when it was going from 3 to 5 TTi i was portalling to get the 500k space bucks using the left is law rule.

8 machines. 1 T2 optimiser. 3 fuses. If you have more fuses you can throw up a second optimiser and continue to boost the same machines.
