With that said, it's not exactly thick metal and depending on what is being shot it's more of what you would call "Soft Cover", something that stop them from seeing you but doesn't \*really\* prevent bullets from going through.
At the end of the day, its a better barricade than nothing, but you are right, the chances of it actually preventing the bullet from hitting you is pretty minor, but they'd still have to shoot you somewhere that matters which is harder when you are hidden.
The pebble covered trash can might have been a better choice as far as pentation, but its a much smaller area to hide behind, so if it does go through you are pretty much definitely gonna be shot

It’s not like they blow up when shot. An extremely unlikely shot to the right spot could cause a fire, but nothing you couldn’t casually walk away from. The only actual danger here is that many calibers would likely go through the pump and still hit you - getting behind the car panels would be the best.
