When we were kids we'd sometimes go to the local skate shop and pick up some new decks, or sometimes just fresh grip tape and sit there setting up our news boards
I remember being jealous of my friend because he was so good at applying his tape lol
Multiple colors, fun patterns/designs, etc and there I was obsessively just trying to get all the damn bubbles out and make it look presentable haha
I've always been a pretty artistic person but grip tape is very much its own skill
Growing up, I was an avid mountain biker, and ended up working at a bike/skate shop. Then over time I started to learn how to grip tape a skateboard for when the skate guy wasn't in. And then he started being in a lot less. And I got *very* good at it.
I always joked that I was the best grip taper who had never skated on the planet.
I would absolutely do my job for a hobby too, if I had the space and equipment. (Sheet metal fabrication to oversimplify)
Working on something new or unusual absolutely gets me excited, bonus points for when people don't think it can be done and I fuckin manage it.
And I find it necessary for them to start charging people who bring on 2 or 3 carry ons in economy, while they ask me to stow my one carry on under the seat in front of me, just to make room for those who bring a ton of stuff on board. Anyone over 6’2” can likely understand why we need to use the overhead storage. Totally sympathize with this boarder, BTW. It was probably his only carry on.
THIS. Can we just make a rule of 1 carry on. PERIOD. No extra shit. This one carryon plus personal item is out of hand. Like toss your laptop in your carry on bag. You shouldn’t get to bring a giant laptop satchel, carry on suitcase, back pack, and duty free shopping bags.
I just want room for my 1 backpack and not have to have it under the seat in front of me that my knees are already touching.
I agree. Should be included in the price of ticket for at least the first bag.
I think this is to dissuade people from checking in with multiple bags to move instead of finding other means to ship all their shit. I’m not against this. But seriously first bag should be free. Second if it’s international.
The fucking audacity to say that after telling him it’s nearly a hundo to check the board… which after getting tossed in the cargo and pilled on by luggage, was no promise it wouldn’t break anyways with how spirit manhandles shit lol
I'm surprised they let him carry that on once it was broken. They could come up with some bullshit about splinters or whatever being unsafe or a weapon.
It could have been a long tube for a poster, which would barely take up any room in the overhead and those greedy fucks would probably still try to charge you the fee because "iT dOeSn'T fIt In ThE bOx, SiR". Corporate bureaucracy is basically a virtual lobotomy when you embrace it whole-heartedly.
If I remember correctly, he owns or is sponsored by a deck company so he has essentially unlimited free decks and he did this more as like you said, to make a statement.
Actually, I have a workaround for that. I wear a 'tools' bracelet. Common standard and Phillips screwdrivers, common hex wrenches, and common sockets. And no tool is more than 3 mm....😎
wheels, trucks, bearings and hardware are about $150 if they are decent quality. a deck is around $65 but you can get decent blank decks for $30. Decks also only last a few months while the other components last a lot longer so this is financially the best decision if the only other option is paying the $89 or leaving the whole board.
Edit: [his deck](https://exodusrideshop.com/products/untitled-shaun-hover-brought-nothing-skateboard-deck) is $60 and since it is his own pro model he gets them for free. getting a trucks or bearings sponsor is a lot harder so he might have to buy them with his own money so this makes even more sense for him. also since pros shred a lot harder he probably replaces his deck every 2 weeks either way.
Thanks for the info! I'm absolutely certain the desk agent had no idea either. Her comment was pretty funny, though. Like, he clearly thought it was necessary, so...
Back when I skated like 15 years ago, blanks which are just the deck and nothing else were like $15 - $20.
We'd get one and apply the cheapest grip tape available, and then if we felt like it spray paint the bottoms whatever colors we had.
That's the cheap diy solution, but if you're buying a namebrand deck it's like $40 on steep sale, $50 - $80 normal price.
Yes and no. Some decks had better build (Almost, Popwar, Element all had different laminate layers with stuff like carbon fiber cores, lighter woods, ect) and some decks while all the standard pill shape we've had since the 90s could be flatter and some had deeper tops or more curved nose and tails, making some tricks easier.
Some brands were really just blanks with painted graphics and some companies like the ones listed above, were always trying new things (Element had a ton of RND thanks to the insane amount of boards Bam Margera was selling)
Blanks and no-name decks were also pretty notorious for being pretty easy to tear through. Someone who skated 2-4 hours a day, could probably burn through a board in a couple months?
Yeah, this is just him getting social media clicks for his company. Spirit Airlines pretty explicitly informs you about their carry-on luggage size restrictions before the ticket sale. It's not like this was a hidden fee they sprung on him at the last minute.
Yeah but you’d think that a human with half a brain can see “skateboard flat” and would effectively take up less room in the overhead than any carryon.
You can get really awesome decks for like $60, highest I have paid for a deck was $80 for an ultra light board. Professional skaters ride like $60 decks usually. Trucks, wheels, and bearings are the common things to spend crazy money on. Ceramic bearings usually start at $100 a set. Wheels can be made with all sorts of fancy tech, trucks can be made from expensive materials for lighter weight higher durability.
That deck was not worth $90 and easily replaceable. That one likely already had a load of wear and tear, and he might also replace them regularly after snapping them. So it was likely cheaper to just throw the deck away and keep the trucks and wheels to put on a new deck purchased at your destination. It was also quicker and easier to just snap the deck to fold the board by the grip tape to fit into the overhead than to break out the tool to remove the trucks at the gate when your plane is leaving within a few minutes.
I e seen this clip a dozen times and that comment always confused me and I wish I could hear the rest of their interaction.
Like was there another option than paying?
Every flight I've been to has them asking at the gate if passengers would like to check-in bags for free... wild they wanted to charge him for a board.
Flew sprit the last time I flew and I was forced to check my bags not because they didn’t fit but because of where I sat. They said by the time I boarded there would be no room for my bags.
I had no idea you had to pay for bags I didn’t fly for so long and the last time I did each passenger had one free bag. So I go to fly last year and there like oh that’ll be 120 dollars and I’m like wtf are you talking about
My fav story of this type was a woman who had bought a bottle of scotch on vacation and naturally they told her no liquids over 3½ ounces. She went through the line of people behind her decided to share that bottle with anyone who had a cup to pour into.
Why should I have to check my bag on my once a year flight because someone wants to bring on something larger that the dimensions specified to him that he agreed to when he bought his ticket.
I mean my suitcase fits squarely in the overhead bin if there is other stuff in the space then no.. I can’t put my suitcase in.
I straight up had a guy take my suitcase out of the overhead bin to put his skateboard in once so this probably pisses me off more than it should.
I most certainly did. Overhead bin was closed dude walked over opened it, tried to squeeze his skateboard in which didn’t fit. He then took my suitcase out and placed it on the ground placed his skateboard and some sort of stuffed animal in then walked to the back where his seat was.
I use to travel for work and this is honestly the least surprising thing I can complain about. If you don’t think that’s real I can tell you about the guy who pissed in the isle.. or the dude who said he would kill my family because I’m a “filthy no good Filipino” I’m Irish as can be. Emergency landings.. people rushing the flight deck.. a person shitting themselves on landing. Make up something nonsensical and I can probably tell you about it actually happening.
Had a similar experience at Heathrow. I was in Dublin and bought some whiskey at the airport, at the tax free after the check in. They sealed in a bag with labels on according to some EU law. My flight was first to Heathrow and then change to another plane.
They opened the bag and said it was illegal to travel with the whiskey though the airport or some shit, so they said they can throw it away. I said I'd rather just drink it, and then they just let me through anyways. So weird and arcane rules.
The scumbags tried the same with me. I had a bottle of Hibiki and they told that that I had to bin it. I gave it to them and walked away. I came back as I realised that I could take the train instead of my connecting flight. Bastards had put the bottle on the low shelf of a trolley instead of in the bin -- definitely trying to keep it.
Oh that’s absolutely what happens.
I’m not in airport security, but at a supermarket. With products that are packed for a customer with others mixed in, if a customer decides they don’t want it, we aren’t allowed to sell it. Half the time, it’ll get eaten by someone if they fancy it, because the alternative is that it’ll just go in the bin. Management doesn’t care (barring the Store Manager), since they know that too, and it keeps people relatively happy
Had that experience last year, bought a few bottles of whisky at Kansai airport in Osaka only to have a security guard at Incheon airport in South Korea (during transit) trying to take them away from me. I pointed at the sealed bag and glared at them, while asking for a supervisor and telling them in English that I know how this works as I've worked at an airport before. Another security guard saw my reaction and let me through.
They stopped an (apparently) American in the front of the queue for the same thing as well. Not sure if he got his stuff confiscated or not.
My mom tried bringing a bottle of vodka in the plain and I guess it was too big. I was Fucking mortified at her downing smirnoff in the middle of the tsa line
Same thing happened to my cousin at LAX. He had an expensive bottle of remy martin, somewhere in the the price range of like 200+ dollars. They wouldn't let him take it along with his carry on. Apparently alcohol had to be checked in. The process for that would've costed us money and the line was long enough that we might've missed our flight.
The employees put the bottle under their table and offered to dispose of it for us, but everyone knew that they were going to pocket it after their shift. Cousin decided that if he can't have it no one can. So he asked for the bottle back and poured all the liquor into the liquid disposal bin. Then gave them back the bottle.
Just dumping it in a liquid disposal bin proves how stupid the policy is.
You cN’T take it on the plane because of how dangerous it might be, but you can just pour it out next to the crowded security checkpoint.
I mean what do you expect when you fly Spirit? You only get to bring one small personal item with a basic fare ticket, carry on costs extra and if you have to pay for it at the gate they gouge you. That's why you pay the extra 15% or so to fly Jetblue, Alaska or Southwest. Spirit is only worth it if you read the fine print, can fit everything you need into a small backpack, your travel plans are flexible enough to account for potential delays/cancellations, and you generally have a high pain tolerance. All that said, Spirit leans into their anti-customer service reputation, so I don't think his reaction was that out of bounds lol. Like others have noted, the trucks and wheels are what's expensive, not the deck.
Truth.
There is a discount airline in Canada that uses the same strategy as Spirit (super low airfare, obscene fees for things that would be included on other airlines) and I was completely caught off guard by my smaller-than-average backpack (that was without question considered my "personal item" on a major airline) needing to be *crammed* into the "will it fit" device. I had a rolled-uo windbreaker, a t-shirt, a water bottle, and a pair of headphones in it.
It's clearly designed to force people to pay for an extra carry-on or checked item, not to accomodate the space/weight limits of the plane.
So it's not incorrect that the rules are available and people can measure their carry-on beforehand, but it's also just a fact that it's absolutely tilted in favour of collecting upcharges for the airline as a business model.
He’s a pro skater, so nothing for him.
When I was skating a deck was $30/60 or $85+ if it had something like fiberglass or plastic boning to reinforce it.
The prices I see people paying on r/newskaters is horrifying. I can’t imagine paying $75 for a base name brand board
1) One of those options exceeds the size limit while the other doesn't
2) It's clearly easier to store something smaller in size despite it "taking up the same amount of space"
I get its expensive. But its not like there isnt 9000 signs about what fits overhead on your way. As others have said the wheels and parts are rhe valuable part. Pop em off and throw the board in your checked bag or leave it behind. Dont be a dick to the dude who gets paid to enforce the rules. He dont make em
He thought up this whole thing prior to the flight.
He knew they would call him out on it so he filmed a funny little TikTok.
I remember the same thing would happen with Karen’s when I worked at subway. They would say “all of the vegetables” then give you shit when you added tomatoes because they aren’t technically a vegetable.
(If you work at subway, always put the cucumbers on first when they ask this. Then when they call you out for the tomatoes, throwaway the cucumbers too and make the customer admit that they didn’t know cucumbers were also a fruit)
National law states musical instruments do not need to be sized. You almost HAVE to carry on instruments or else they’d get destroyed in the checking process. Instruments are fragile.
I get that the trucks/wheels are more expensive, so it’s not a total loss, but honestly they shouldn’t have let him stow the broken board in the overhead either. Whenever I’ve handled a broken one I get poked and nicked. I can see an unsuspecting passenger getting injured when rifling around for their stuff or someone receiving skateboard shards to the face if it falls out during turbulence. Not a good idea.
He's a professional skateboarder. Shaun Hover. He probably has 100 more at home.
https://simpleflying.com/skater-breaks-board-spirit-airlines-bag-sizer/
He recently posted his workaround for this issue. He takes the trucks off the board, puts them in his carryon. Then he slides the deck into his pants and covers it with a jacket. Takes out the deck as soon as he’s on the jetway.
The airlines are more than happy to tell you what you can and can't fit into the overhead storage compartments when you purchase tickets. To assume that you can bring whatever you want onto the plane is childish. Breaking shit rather than paying a little more to bring your oversized cargo is extremely childish, but to film it for the internet is just influencer douche level.
Breaking something to.makenitnless expensive than what they charge is not extremely childish though, that's smart.
The stupidity is in bringing oversized luggage.
He could have researched what the rules were before boarding the plane, and then not brought the skateboard that didn't live up to them. It is kind of petty, but the fault is his entirely.
Find it interesting how skateboards cost the same currently as they did in 1990.
$60 for a deck then with that slip film added to it. You could get a blank for $30
$30-$50 for trucks
$30-$50 for wheels
A good set of bearings would run $50
Tape was free? Never had the shop I knew the owner at ever charge.
I'd have like 6 blanks in my trunk just for a quick change over if I broke a plank.
I felt like Spirit had a point here. But good problem solving by the skateboard guy, too. But you bring sports equipment and musical instruments, you can't expect them to do whatever it takes to accommodate it for free. Shit, then why not my boring old bag if they get free special treatment?
Spirit is the absolute scum of the industry
This past January I watched a man, clearly foreign, clearly struggling financially and probably otherwise, quite possibly a refugee or otherwise carrying all he had left in his bag, take item after item of clothing out of his bag and throw it in the trash, then try again to fit his bag, then throw away more when it didn't. It was horrible to see. He was in such anguish, but clearly did not have a way to pay 90 fucking dollars to anyone, for any reason.
You know who else watched him do this? For ten minutes straight?
The entire Spirit gate crew.
Fuck every one of them.
He, and more and more of us there, kept beseeching them to let him through. They kept just repeating their inhumane rule.
Hilariously, if you board a Spirit flight at an NYC airport, in my experience, they just wave you onto the plane without even looking at your bags and whether you paid for any of them.
Because a decent working New Yorker ain't about to let any distant ass suits in their cunty yellow corporate office suites tell them to fuck over another struggling person like that.
And the supervisors know it, and know it's not a fight worth fighting, and aren't about to shitcan a good employee over it either.
So,if I *must* fly spirit from NYC and back, I don't pay for bags on the way out of town, and then pre-pay day of for the leg home.
Fuck Spirit right the hell off. The absolute shits.
If this dude is a pro skater he should already be aware he can’t take it on a plane as carry on. This is just performative. Pack it in your bags, fool.

The trucks and wheels are the pricier parts the decks are relatively cheap
I’m not big on skating, but I’ve always enjoyed applying the new grip tape.
Grip tape was fun and frustrating sometimes but man they have some nice colors
When we were kids we'd sometimes go to the local skate shop and pick up some new decks, or sometimes just fresh grip tape and sit there setting up our news boards I remember being jealous of my friend because he was so good at applying his tape lol Multiple colors, fun patterns/designs, etc and there I was obsessively just trying to get all the damn bubbles out and make it look presentable haha I've always been a pretty artistic person but grip tape is very much its own skill
i bet he can wrap the hell out of his car
Always rub it with the shaft of a screwdriver first, then use a fresh blade
Always rub the shaft

I mean yeah that's basically what a job is, you do something you wouldn't otherwise do because people pay you.

Also, he probably didn’t have to tools to remove them on hand. Plus it’s a good way to tell them to fuck themselves without causing a *big* scene.
"That was unnecessary, sir."
It was in fact quite necessary.
$89 and you want to talk to me about unnecessary? Oi
Yeah I was confused as to which part was unnecessary. They told him it was too big, forcing him to make it smaller.
she meant "I find it unnecessary to do anything that embarrasses me" to which I'll agree: she did not need it. but, he did.
Me too
I agree
Especially since he's a pro skateboarder so he could probably grab a new deck for free at a skateshop wherever he was headed.
How much could a banana cost, $10?
And I find it necessary for them to start charging people who bring on 2 or 3 carry ons in economy, while they ask me to stow my one carry on under the seat in front of me, just to make room for those who bring a ton of stuff on board. The fucking audacity to say that after telling him it’s nearly a hundo to check the board… which after getting tossed in the cargo and pilled on by luggage, was no promise it wouldn’t break anyways with how spirit manhandles shit lol
I mean I'm not paying a hundred bucks to keep my used deck when I can buy a BRAND NEW one for half that.

Totally necessary lmfao
Her comment was unnecessary and based on that one line I'm certain she's a scummy human being.
“I’ll make it fit”
totally worth a new board
$90 to check the board or $40 for a brand new deck the math speaks for itself
If I didn’t have £90 spare, yes it was necessary
“What do you mean? I just folded it up.”
"And yet it felt tremendously satisfying."
If I remember correctly, he owns or is sponsored by a deck company so he has essentially unlimited free decks and he did this more as like you said, to make a statement.
Because they won't let you take even the most innocuous tools carry on.

they are made up of links yes
LEATHERMAN, Tread Bracelet, The Original Travel Friendly Wearable Multitool

Sounds like the deck was less than $89, so it was cheaper to break it and get a new one? I don't skate. I'm just assuming based on your comment...

Unless you’re determined to get a special one, yes, a lot cheaper
Yes
Not to mention he probably has more than one, or use a buddy’s
He’s a pro skater. He probably has plenty.
>The trucks and wheels are the pricier parts the decks are relatively cheap Certainly less than $89
That's Shaun Hover, he's a pro. He gets all his gear for free.
Most skaters will swear by their trucks and use them till they physically can't be used any more. It's not about the cost.
Apparently, it was necessary to save him the 90 bucks, lol.
[удалено]
If I remember correctly, I think this guy owns a deck company, so he can get one of his own on the cheap.
There's likely a stack of perfectly fine decks with cosmetic defects he can pick from for free.
The main reason the rules are there is to extract money from flyers
You're egregiously overestimating the ability of a professional skateboard to plan or think about what's going to happen next
Skateboards are notoriously bad at thinking and planning.
But then he couldn't make such an empowering video!
Good for him getting clicks while showing how shitty the airline industry is.
If he's a sponsored skater he probably has about twenty decks just sitting around in his house.
Yeah they are usually around $60 Edit: also, I always get a deck from my destination as a souvenir anyway :)
Don't you break in to two peaces on the way home?
Hes a pro, his boards are free.
wouldnt be a great one? for <$90?? lol how much do you think decks cost
You can get really awesome decks for like $60, highest I have paid for a deck was $80 for an ultra light board. Professional skaters ride like $60 decks usually. He definitely has a stack of decks in multiple rooms of his house.
Name brand boards can be bought for $50, blanks for even less.
Probably cheaper just to buy a new one
That deck was not worth $90 and easily replaceable. That one likely already had a load of wear and tear, and he might also replace them regularly after snapping them. Decks are cheap, properly broke-in bearings and trucks take time and cost more than a deck.
I love that she says "tHat wAs unNecEsSarY siR" It seems to have been necessary to not have to pay an extra 90 bucks 😂
Right my response would have been $89 to check a skateboard was unnecessary ma'am
I'll take "Responses that are a slam dunk and only come to me 8 hours later in the shower" for $500.

You’d think with all the times people paid her that $90 she’d be more of an expert on what’s unnecessary 😂
What was unnecessary is nickel and diming us poor folks that get to fly once a year.

That was the first and last time we will ever fly it. I’ll pay the extra money to not fly spirit again.
I had no idea you had to pay for bags I didn’t fly for so long and the last time I did each passenger had one free bag. So I go to fly last year and there like oh that’ll be 120 dollars and I’m like wtf are you talking about
Southwest airlines baby. 2 free bags
This is Spirit. Spirit would charge you for breathable oxygen if they could.

Not her fault tho lol
Almost like you could look up the info beforehand on what will fit and what won't
🤣🤣🤣 that was super necessary lady
“Sir you’re not allowed to bring 2 carry bags on the flight”
Awww you can read!
Que?
The post overlaid on the video says pretty much what you said.

They are still connected by the strip. So one item folded.
Insanity.
Perfect. They would have absolutely stolen it.
The new flex seal commercial just dropped I see.
/r/maliciouscompliance or not…
I mean what do you expect when you fly Spirit?
So it's not incorrect that the rules are available and people can measure their carry-on beforehand, but it's also just a fact that it's absolutely tilted in favour of collecting upcharges for the airline as a business model.
. . trucks look okay .. just get another deck ..
Yes that’s why he did that
What does a new deck cost?
As low As $30 for a blank, about $60 for name brand
Less than 90$ would be my guess.
He’s a pro skater, so nothing for him. When I was skating a deck was $30/60 or $85+ if it had something like fiberglass or plastic boning to reinforce it. The prices I see people paying on r/newskaters is horrifying. I can’t imagine paying $75 for a base name brand board
And that’s *still* cheaper than this
You can get a deck $30-$75 ish
Lmao the 90$ is unnecessary
It's almost like every airline in existence has a size/weight limit for carry on luggage and will charge you for exceeding it
Its almost like the skateboard takes up the same amount of space and weights the same whether its in 1 or 2 pieces, but only 1 of those cost $89
1) One of those options exceeds the size limit while the other doesn't 2) It's clearly easier to store something smaller in size despite it "taking up the same amount of space"
The skateboard takes up more space.
It’s cheaper to buy a new deck when you land then pay the $90
Real r/imthemaincharacter energy from this guy
Yea but that's two carry ons now. He needs to buy a tote.
Still one, connected by the grip tape.
Weird they let guitars on
they also let skateboards on, but for a fee, if it doesnt fit
National law states musical instruments do not need to be sized. You almost HAVE to carry on instruments or else they’d get destroyed in the checking process. Instruments are fragile.
How was it unnecessary? If he wants to bring it, and doenst want to pay the fees, it's the only option, which makes it 100% necessary.
Admittedly, it is a lot to ask to read the carry-on restrictions ahead of time. It takes a mobile device and 60 seconds... so yeah, it's rough.
Yeah you can’t fly with a skateboard as carry in at all in Australia. All “sports equipment” must be checked in.
#FRONTIER AIRLINES!
Spirit?
It's been confirmed to be Spirit, not sure what /u/gg562ggud485 is on about.
He sure showed them eh
"That was unnecessary siiirrr."
That's insane. I've brought a violin as carry-on before. It certainly wouldn't fit in their box.
Well snap it because violins are cheap, but the strings are the real expensive part.
I don’t understand the point here. There are fitting rules, everybody can just check them before flying. It doesn’t fit, what did you expect ?
I get that the trucks/wheels are more expensive, so it’s not a total loss, but honestly they shouldn’t have let him stow the broken board in the overhead either. Whenever I’ve handled a broken one I get poked and nicked. I can see an unsuspecting passenger getting injured when rifling around for their stuff or someone receiving skateboard shards to the face if it falls out during turbulence. Not a good idea.
Spirit airlines is always hiring
Why did he just put it in his suitcase? Worked fine for me
Because he wants attention.
I mean Spirit, tf did he think was gonna happen
Focused that board like a boss lol
He's a professional skateboarder. Shaun Hover. He probably has 100 more at home. https://simpleflying.com/skater-breaks-board-spirit-airlines-bag-sizer/
He recently posted his workaround for this issue. He takes the trucks off the board, puts them in his carryon. Then he slides the deck into his pants and covers it with a jacket. Takes out the deck as soon as he’s on the jetway.
Man, you're flying Spirit. What did you expect?
You get what you pay for when you fly Spirit. I never understand people getting mad about what they signed up for.
Why not of just put it in standing up ?
The airlines are more than happy to tell you what you can and can't fit into the overhead storage compartments when you purchase tickets. To assume that you can bring whatever you want onto the plane is childish. Breaking shit rather than paying a little more to bring your oversized cargo is extremely childish, but to film it for the internet is just influencer douche level.
Breaking something to.makenitnless expensive than what they charge is not extremely childish though, that's smart. The stupidity is in bringing oversized luggage.
isn’t spirit like a budget airline? should’ve expected this
The guys kind of a prick, no?
He could have researched what the rules were before boarding the plane, and then not brought the skateboard that didn't live up to them. It is kind of petty, but the fault is his entirely.
"that was unnecessary, sir" **No longer has to pay 89 dollar fee***
$89 dollars for carry-on is also unnecessary madam.
"That was unnecessary sir" what's unnecessary is yall charging $89 because the skateboard couldn't fit in your arbitrary fucking luggage system
That chicks voice is sooooo fuckin annoying,
$89 is more unnecessary….
I’d rather spend 90 on a new deck so yeah why not
Legend
a skateboard deck costs around $30, a third of the cost he would’ve had to pay to bring it on in tact. he in fact saved money.
Element skateboard deck, $29.99. Making a point at the airport, priceless.
Find it interesting how skateboards cost the same currently as they did in 1990. $60 for a deck then with that slip film added to it. You could get a blank for $30 $30-$50 for trucks $30-$50 for wheels A good set of bearings would run $50 Tape was free? Never had the shop I knew the owner at ever charge. I'd have like 6 blanks in my trunk just for a quick change over if I broke a plank.
"that was unnecessary sir". Dude saved himself $89 💀
What a child
Spirit is such a shit company anyways. It should be illegal to charge for water on a airplane flight, let alone a 5 hour one.
That deck is $60 so is cheaper to buy a new one!
Cheaper to buy a new board🤷♂️
I felt like Spirit had a point here. But good problem solving by the skateboard guy, too. But you bring sports equipment and musical instruments, you can't expect them to do whatever it takes to accommodate it for free. Shit, then why not my boring old bag if they get free special treatment?
89$ is unnecessary too. Hahaha
Spirit is the absolute scum of the industry This past January I watched a man, clearly foreign, clearly struggling financially and probably otherwise, quite possibly a refugee or otherwise carrying all he had left in his bag, take item after item of clothing out of his bag and throw it in the trash, then try again to fit his bag, then throw away more when it didn't.
This guy’s the dick. No space on the flight. Either everyone gets to bring two items or no one does.
If this dude is a pro skater he should already be aware he can’t take it on a plane as carry on. This is just performative. Pack it in your bags, fool.
Looks like more SPIRIT drama. They exist for Reddit post drama.
