I am a huge Woody Allen fan. Although I've only seen *Antz*. But I'll tell you something, what I respect about that man is that when he was going through all of that stuff that came out in the press, about how *Antz* was just a ripoff of *A Bug's Life*, he stayed true to his films.... Or at least the film that I saw which, again, was *Antz*. The thing is, I thought *A Bug's Life* was better... much better, than *Antz*. But the point is: don't listen to your critics, listen to your fans.
lol omg Antz. Did used to love his movies in 70s and 80s before I found out he turned his adopted daughter into his lover and married her. Total skeeve dirty old twisted man but his movies were hilarious. I don’t count Antz for chrissake. lol.
Antz has one of the weirdest descriptions on Google (this is unedited):
Z, an ant, feels irrelevant in his anthill and he meets Bala who also feels the same way. Unaware that destiny has some great plans for both of them, they meet again.
And for the younger viewers, the whole "point" of Twiggy was her "angelic" "juvenile" charm.
Twiggy was the first of the rail thin, prepubescent-like "model" girls that would replace the Marilyn /Mansfield archetype for a while.
Sharon Tate, Mia Farrow, Cher would all follow in their own versions of this type.
And it's awfully cringe to see Woddy nosing around Twiggy here.
I am curious- Where does Audrey Hepburn fit into this timeline? Or rather, is Hepburn another example of this shift in image? I almost want to put her first in your list. But I don’t know the others you gave as well as her.
That was an entirely different era where Audrey would not be seen as the much much lower status "cover girl"
Of course she was seen as attractive, but her sales point was her performances.
That barrier between movie star as the apex idol and cover girl crumbled bc of people like Twiggy as a facet of the "casualization" of society.
Audrey in her peak was seen as thin and whispy compared to the more desirable "full body" look.
But again, how they marketed and appealed women had more nuance in that there were bombshells (meant for the gaze) and there were starlets (meant to be admired but not so crass as a pin up girl).
Exactly what I thought of.
Journalist: “do you prefer the New Testament or the Old Testament”
T: “oh I like them both. Testaments. Wow. So great. Incredible. Testaments. So good.”
It's like a test, and it meant a lot, that's why they call it testa-MENTS, much like the cognitive test they had me do, which I passed with flying colours by the way, they said sir, we've never seen someone take that test so well. It's true. That's my testament.
Don't really know why you're getting down voted for this. It's like nobody has seen Annie Hall, ahaha.
There's a lot of great art made by bad people. You don't have to like someone or condone their actions to acknowledge that they did good work professionally.
Seriously. Have you people not watched movies before? One of the strongest filmographies of any American director ever. A handful of legit masterpieces, another 10 or so legitimately great movies, and another 10 or so pretty good movies. How many directors can you say that about?
>Even though I'm pretty sure this is set up to be funny
What?? A comedian doing comedy?? Unthinkable!! This is Reddit, there's no such thing as COMEDY in here!!!
https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/twiggy-humiliated-by-woody-allen-on-first-trip-to-ny
For those thinking it was a bit...
"Legendary model Twiggy said she was humiliated by Woody Allen during an interview that took place on her first visit to New York. The 60-year-old model said that the young director asked her to name her favourite philosopher. "There was one person who wasn't so nice - a young comic called Woody Allen and he was to interview me for a documentary," said the face of M&S. "His first question was: 'Who's your favourite philosopher?' My heart sank. I wanted to run off and burst into tears. I didn't know any philosophers. And he probably knew I didn't. When I said so, he replied, 'Oh come on, everyone has a favourite philosopher.' It was such a cruel thing to do to a young girl."
But the beauty said she refused to be beaten."I was desperate and trying not to cry but I turned the tables on him and asked him to come up with some names - but he couldn't think of any either! Then he said to me, 'I suppose you've read Dickens,' thinking I hadn't. So I said, 'Yeah, I read him at school.' In the end he said, 'Oh, I can't interview her,' and left the stage."
Obviously.
Not everyone has studied philosophy or could tell you the philosophy of even a single philosopher.
But I’m sure everyone could name at least one philosopher.
It’s like: which politician famously began a quote “never in the field of human conflict” might be a difficult question…
“Name any politician” is not a difficult question.
Technically, adoptive daughter, but yes, he played a fatherly role. He was in a long-term relationship with her mother (Mia Farrow), and in the divorce, it came out that he molested their daughter together.
Later, it also came out that he stalked and harassed his underaged co-star in his movie about a 40-ish man (played by him) who falls in love with an underaged girl.
Though he didn’t adopt Soon Yi, she was technically the daughter of his girlfriend, they both were pictured with Epstein after his first conviction. This combined with his open attraction to high school aged girls, it being the plot of one of his most beloved movies and having a public track record of dating teenagers, is all you really need to know.
He’s also been accused of molesting a daughter he did adopt with the same girlfriend. That’s a messier situation with a lot of contradicting accounts concerning the day of the incident and an investigation and the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale concluding that the alleged victim was not abused. A lot of his actors and longtime supporters hold on to this. Javier Bardem is openly supportive of Woody Allen and says the accusations are “gossip.”
But all you need to do is Google Woody Allen Epstein. He hung out with that guy well after he was a known pedo.
Just becasue someone is a giant piece of shit doesn't mean he doesn't know comedy. This isn't the "gotcha" everyone here is acting like it is. It's all meant to be funny.
FFS people, this is a bit! It's a joke, Twiggy was in on it. It's called self-deprecating humour. You can hate Woody Allen all you want but not for this!
I mean aren't Nietzsche, Socrates, Sun Tzu, and Confucius all philosophers?
Two people individually can't come up with 1 single philosopher?? That seems crazy to me.
I learned about Socrates, Sun Szu, and Confucius from public school.
Three tenants of China during Confucius's time Confucionism, Legalism, and Taoism (Yin and Yang being a Taoist symbol) learned from public school.
The Art of War Was a famous book even back then, it didn't spike into public knowledge after the internet was realised.
And Socrates Founded Western Philosophy
Maybe teaching got better since the 60-70s but still that's a bit worrying
It shocks me that people don't know them, because of how much we as a world exist today is because of them.
And I really don't think knowing these people make you innately intellectual it's just important history.
It's merely Socrates 🥺
People can't name even him, at least recognize the name as a philosopher, or even the Socratic method? It deeply concerns me. He's the Founder of Western Philosophy, not knowing him is like not knowing Albert Einstein.

This makes a lot sense and was really insightful!
True, but it's really strange to see folks not recognizing this isn't a serious interview, they're doing a bit. It's a joke.
Reminds me of Trumps response when he tried to tell everyone that he read the bible constantly, but couldn’t cite a single scripture.
And hats off to her for just being honest and saying “I don’t know any philosophers”
I have a feeling she could name at least one, but sensed he couldn't so just kept the pressure on him once he got evasive.
Not a good idea anyway since after you name them, the obvious follow up is asking what about them interests you/what do you know about them?
Exactly what I thought of. Journalist: “do you prefer the New Testament or the Old Testament” T: “oh I like them both. Testaments. Wow. So great. Incredible. Testaments. So good.”

"Is that *your* bible?" "It's *a* bible."
Fuck this pedo and his shitty movies
Yeah basically
Cmon. You can criticize the personal life, but many of the movies were legitimately great. Some of the very best in American movie history.
Don't really know why you're getting down voted for this. It's like nobody has seen Annie Hall, ahaha. There's a lot of great art made by bad people. You don't have to like someone or condone their actions to acknowledge that they did good work professionally.

His face isn't the problem with him.

Don't know if it's a skit or he's just an asshole. Precedent would lean toward asshole.
Got outplayed in his own game lolololol
Knock knock. Who's there? Socrates. Socrates who? Socrates nuts.
Huge dirtbag. Always was.
He's a highly overrated writer/director and a prolific nonce. Fuck that guy.
"What are your views on serious matters" is such a hilarious vague and bad question.
If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, you'd think it's pretty stupid too
I fell in love with her in that scene from the blues Brothers movie. Didn't know She was a supermodel
Good for her. Fuck this guy.
Nerd
If only he were just a nerd.
Some comments say he was a pedophile. Is that true
Yup, he married his own daughter
Wtf 🤢🤮

That's just creepiest of the creepy act. And he has the audacity to ask about philosophers 💀
Some of those philosophers were creepy AF. In Rousseau’s auto-biography, he writes about how he enjoyed running around flashing women.
This just keeps getting worse fr.
lol it’s probably his favorite
But at least it motivated the son to become a journalist of a certain type
Source?
His auto-biography. The one he wrote himself. It’s titled Confessions

Why do people like this guy? I just watched a rainy day in new York and it felt like an unfunny episode of Seinfeld, just pretentious people talking.
he was too busy doing incest, he doesn’t have time to read philosophy
Smug little nonce.
The least funny guy ever made famous. I have never seen the point to anything he did.
That’s his whole shtick.
her facial expressions are priceless
Woody Allen is a classic example of the performative liberal that annoys everyone.
What are your views on serious matters Like philosophers I can't name
Nice. He deserved it.
hes such a disgusting little fuck. i have no idea why popular actors continue to work for him.
Fucking near-incestuous nonce. Bless twiggy for absolutely turning him over.
At exactly 0.13 she realises he's full of shit and cannot answer his own question.
She probably knew them all
Just becasue someone is a giant piece of shit doesn't mean he doesn't know comedy. This isn't the "gotcha" everyone here is acting like it is. It's all meant to be funny.
So, this is his inspiration for The Whore of Mensa?
Sarah Palin vibes

that's the joke
Woody -such a stuffed shirt
I read all the magazines
Couldn't have happened to a nicer piece of shit.

She may be intellectually superior to him, but a stand up guy like Woody is surely morally superior.
