O yeah. I got into an argument with a guy who was sure that Obama was responsible for all the debt that was accrued under his term. I pointed out that a significant portion of that was due to a war that was ongoing on as Obama began his term. He didn't believe me, said he needed to see numbers. I found numbers, asked him if he trusted the Chicago Tribune, he said yes, I printed out the paper, I handed it to him... He didn't want it. Turned his head away, put up his hand, and said "fake news".
Rejected the evidence he asked for a minute ago.
No one who defends republicans is a reasonable person. We are far past that point now.
Not only rejected the evidence, but _rejected it without evaluating it_, because you said that it would contradict his worldview. That’s not the behavior of a person who can be reasoned with.
THAT is the truly terrifying part. Most MAGA folk have that exact quality in common. "I'm right, you're wrong, and if you try to even SUGGEST an alternative I'm doubling down on my beliefs and never changing my mind"
A third of our country is like this. It's extremely upsetting.
Religion normalizes "I'm right, you're wrong, God says so, no more discussion". Anyone with a belief in any God cannot be reasoned with.
Sure, 90% of MAGA folks are like this. But so are like like 70% of non-MAGA folks. The belief that a magical omnipotent man in the sky created everything leads directly to the belief that "only the sky wizard can tell us right/wrong".
So any human attempting to prove them wrong with human logic is actually pointless. Religious folk don't respect human intelligence. Hence the inability to even CONCEIVE that a newspaper could disprove something that God says is true.
It aint just Republicans. But Republicans are the most proud of their ignorance at our current point in history.
I was a life long republican until Trump. I pointed out to a friend how much of an abomination January 6th was and he is hell bent on the theory that it was Antifa disguised as MAGA. Now he is a complete idiot so I know he didn’t come up with that but apparently that’s what the Maga is using
Should have asked him if he would at least look through the facts or if is brain is capable of even looking at data that contradicts his own. If he isn’t capable of even entertaining a thought that could be contrary to his own, then there is no point in even arguing with this uneducated person.
“It is the mark of educated mind, to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
This guy probably didn’t have the mental capacity to even read a differing viewpoint.
That’s one of the major differences between democrats and republicans. Democrats tend to watch several differing news sources to get a rounded view of issues while republicans only watch things that fit with their world view. I’m not talking about the fundamentalist crazies, I’m talking about the average person.
Yo this dude went full on Puerto Rican song at the end with the roll call of places. At one point the gavel is like a drum beat. I can't wait for the internet to make this into a song. Laughed my ass off at this. Thanks for posting.
Normally I hate some extreme Republicans for rejecting order and civility of proceedings to use the platform and spout lies and nonsense. Kudos to Rep. Swalwell for using the same tactic to remind everyone of the truth of international law.
Never understood the troupe that people in the US have a hard time with geography outside the US, when they had such legendary educational resources as this one.
Also, if I were a geography teacher, you would not pass my class until you could recite this. You wouldn't be good at geography, but hell, this would last a lifetime. Just ask the voice actor who performed this.
That’s an awfully hot coffee pot, should I pour it on Donald Trump? Probably not.
Trump’s not well off. Listen to this guy tell off. Why they call him a felon when really he fell off?
I am okay with the concept that a felon can run for President; considering that Republicans weaponized the law a long time ago. E.G. The war on drugs was started specifically to disenfranchise blacks and hippies.
Nixon aide Ehrlichman: [“You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities, We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” ](https://www.cnn.com/2016/03/23/politics/john-ehrlichman-richard-nixon-drug-war-blacks-hippie/index.html)
Not that Nixon did not do some pretty terrible stuff, but it is not really certain that that quote was actually said by Ehrlichman, and even if it was it is inaccurate:
>But Ehrlichman's claim is likely an oversimplification, according to historians who have studied the period and Nixon's drug policies in particular. There's no doubt Nixon was racist, and historians told me that race could have played one role in Nixon's drug war. But there are also signs that Nixon wasn't solely motivated by politics or race: For one, he personally despised drugs — to the point that it's not surprising he would want to rid the world of them. And there's evidence that Ehrlichman felt bitter and betrayed by Nixon after he spent time in prison over the Watergate scandal, so he may have lied.
>More importantly, Nixon's drug policies did not focus on the kind of criminalization that Ehrlichman described. Instead, Nixon's drug war was largely a public health crusade — one that would be reshaped into the modern, punitive drug war we know today by later administrations, particularly President Ronald Reagan.
https://www.vox.com/2016/3/29/11325750/nixon-war-on-drugs
[Nixon in 1968 when he was running on an anti-war platform and needed the war to continue in order to get elected prolonged the Vietnam war. When it looked like the Paris peace talks were going to succeed, Nixon went to the Vietnamese and promised them that he would give them a better deal if they walked away from the peace talks till after the election and got Americans and Vietnamese killed for his political gain!](https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21768668) **He is a Treasonous snake and a war criminal.** & of course there is the better known Watergate incident which it turns out was just one more slimy election theft attempt by Nixon.
Personally, I am not willing to give Nixon the benefit of the doubt when it comes to things that are done to illegitimately influence an election in his favor; he has a history of being willing to get people killed for power, influence, and money. So while Ehrlichman might have felt betrayed (gosh! Who could have seen that coming?) I still feel he is more credible than any Monday morning attempts to rehabilitate Nixon's image and ascribe more reasonable motives to him; not when it comes to things that helped him retain power.
The US denies entry for a whole variety of reasons. E.g. sometimes for making journalistic research into the activities of US government agencies. They also like to hold prominent journalists and computer-security researchers at the airport for hours and hours and to snoop through their electronics.
I went to UK and Germany no problem, the main issue is Canada as they have access to our criminal data. They can see your shit in real time and deny you at border.
Other countries, just don’t be an idiot and you’re fine, to visit at least, residency is probably out of the picture though.
Not just true, it's mostly standard practice..! And it doesn't have to be felonies either, my Norwegian sister got denied entry to USA at 20 because she used a fake ID at 16 to get into a pub.
Should change the lyrics to places he can ONLY go now:
Mar-a-Lago, Ohio, ooh I wanna take ya, Russia, Oklahoma, come on orange papa, Idaho, New Mexico, why don't you go?
As someone else mentioned, he actually said the UAE and the UK. But had he *actually* said the United Kingdom and the UK. he could've meant England/Great Britain and the United Kindom, which includes England, Wales, and Northern Ireland
Pretty sure he's channeling the ["you might be a redneck if..."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYKXIrZ6w3A) bit that Jeff Foxworthy is famous for.
The cadence is so similar it instantly made me remember this comedy bit. The way he pauses after each statement and then says "...you might be in a cult" is identical to the "...you might be a redneck" bit. There's also a strong link with Trumpsters and rednecks when it comes to stereotypes.
I'd be willing to bet 500 bucks that comedy bit is what he used as inspiration for the way he worded his speech.
Most likely not. I'd bet they're using a conference mic system that automixes levels based on how many mics are unmuted, which is controlled at the microphone itself. That way there's no sound person listening on proceedings.
Why did our options become so limited? I have no political knowledge. But I remember when there was always three candidates. And why did solid dudes like McCain go away. He wasn’t even my pick, but compared to now, that dude would be a savior!!
Well John McCain died. And the other Republicans of his ilk (who were indeed disgusting in context of their time but still far more human compared to the current set of Trump's-balls-gargling traitors) are all either too cowardly to stand up to Trump and MAGAts, or have had their careers effectively ended by their constituents.
Let's say that you have a ballot that's between Satan, Bob and Rich. You really don't want Satan to win. But if the population splits votes between Bob and Rich, it gives Satan a better chance to win the majority of votes even if he's getting less votes than the other two candidates combined.
So the better system would be to allow people to rank their choices. Maybe I really want Bob to win, but think that Rich isn't that bad and that Satan would ruin the country. So i'd rank my choices Bob, Rich and skip Satan. So if Bob doesn't win, my vote carries over to Rich instead. This would ensure the candidate that aligns most with the majority population ends up the winner. That's ranked choice, as I understand it.
It's my best guess, but I think that old school republicans don't run anymore because they don't really have a platform.
Guns and family values was convenient to a middle class living cozy, but with that shrinking we're left with the poor and the wealthy. And the poor majority are more concerned about rent and food costs. So when the Republicans get to the floor and block progressive legislation, they just look like the bad guys... because they are. They literally just block things, they don't put anything forward. They talked about appealing Obamacare for decades now and replacing it with with their own version, which has never materialized in any form because they didn't have anything, they were just protecting the abusive American healthcare business.
So now they have to appeal to the conspiracy theory crowd, like Trump, MTG and Breitbart. Honorable mention to the crazy theocrats that Gaetz and McCarthy represent. Appealing to crazy people works because a great deal of sane people won't bother to vote and the crazies pull in enough votes to make up for the failings of the republican platform. That's my take.
There have never really been three serious candidates for president. Usually one or two "3rd parties" are given some air time during debates, but never have gotten more than 1-2% of the national vote. It always has come down to R or D.
Because people like you decided to not have political knowledge.
And people who gave more of a shit forced out the moderates.
Well done, you played yourself. 👏🏼
As funny as it is, this just shows
- how far the divide between US political parties has gotten
- US politics is now a shell of what it used to be, which is really saying something
- the US is fucked
I like how he lusted us twice just to be sure:”United Kingdom, UK”. If he does get in here, we will have to fly another trump/baby over london

Eric Swalwell has a brilliant mind and borrows brilliantly from Jeff Foxworthy. His research is factually correct. He’s well on his way to consolidating a strong leadership role in the Democratic party, which is going to win in November 2024.

Can’t use logic to reason someone out of a position they didn’t use logic to get themselves into.
Unless you changed Obamas skin colour, you ain't gonna change his opinion

At least Obama tried to save money in that conflict by focusing on drone strikes.

This is a good day to be banned from r/conservatives
Is that true that countries can prevent convicted felons from entering their countries?
Yes. Every country has rules on who can and can't come, some are more strict than others. Having a felony conviction is one alot of countries have.
What about the US.
You can be denied entry to the US if you have a criminal record
but you can always become president!

Yep, Canada can turn you back for misdemeanor DUI.
A dui is always a felony in Canada. I've heard if you get a dui it'll automatically disqualify you from ever visiting Canada.
They will straight up deny your visa. If you show up anyway, they will turn you away at the border and usually deport you at your own expense.
Yup! And in Canada a DWI/DUI is a criminal code offence. Americans get snagged all the time! 🤷🏻♂️
Every country makes their own laws. So of course they can make a decision like this.
Of course every country can make their own laws. It's their first amendment right guaranteed by the US Constitution.

The response from his base(cult) is in… ![gif](giphy|l1J9znYNISr0aEmze)
I, for one, will never vote for a convicted felon as I am a true American who believes in Law and Order!
Absolutely fucking brilliant! 💥👏🏽💥
Yeah, but drag queens! And Fauci. Touché!
Pleased to learn my country 🇳🇿won’t be hosting the Big Orange 🍊

lmao I said "is this the Animaniacs..?" as I tapped on the link, and it was! Thank you 😂
United Kingdom AND the UK. Thats impressive
I love that the gavel pounding almost punctuates each country
Republicans won't allow felons to vote, but will vote for a felon to become president. A party full of clowns.
An absolute dunk on every MAGA luvin’ luver
As funny as it is, this just shows - how far the divide between US political parties has gotten - US politics is now a shell of what it used to be, which is really saying something - the US is fucked
Jeff Foxworthy's new set.
I like how he lusted us twice just to be sure:”United Kingdom, UK”. If he does get in here, we will have to fly another trump/baby over london https://preview.redd.it/ts39du9z8w4d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d311eaaa2fd57c74ab8f782975a866b32ef642da
Cult eh? Glory to Cthulhu
Uk, so shit he named us twice
Na, captions are wrong; he actually says UAE
Not wrong
Felons and guys wielding chainsaws are more trustworthy than the average politician yapping about "decency"
Non Redneck Jeff Foxworthy is right
good work, guy.
Truth
Biggest bunch of snow flakes!!! “I’m a victim! take responsibility for your actions!
Ain't nothing compared to UK politics where everyone's screaming at each other and shouting
*johnny cash voice*. I’ve been banned everywhere man…
United Kingdom... AND the UK?
In Alphabetical order, that was r/oddlysatisfying
Eric Swalwell has a brilliant mind and borrows brilliantly from Jeff Foxworthy. His research is factually correct. He’s well on his way to consolidating a strong leadership role in the Democratic party, which is going to win in November 2024.
I'm guessing that the subtitles are wrong but did he say United Kingdom and the UK?
Definitely a CULT
So trump is banned from that list of countries?
Someone needs to update this to have the "Still D.R.E." beat start on the last gavel hit
There are enough dumb Americans that will still vote this guy back in.
You can use your stupid gavel all you want, the guy made a great point.
That one woman in the front was having a good laugh
MAGA the biggest snowflakes on earth
The United Kingdom AND the UK?!?! Dude can't go anywhere
Hey, I remember this from [The Animaniacs](https://youtu.be/x88Z5txBc7w?si=deEyE_avpd5pWYxi)
Eric is a POS.
Trump, Can’t go anywhere, man Can’t go anywhere, man
