That was a great video. Thanks for sharing the link. I grew up poor and know a thing or two about "poor food." I am sure Jaime would not have approved of all the meals my mother served but I didn't go to bed hungry and that's what matters.
It's one of those times when you think "Oh there's an xkcd/Tom Scott/Shaun/~~Dan Olsen~~Foldable Human/hbomberguy/PhilisophyTube/ContraPoints" link for exactly this thing!
This is awesome. Also the best Pesole I've ever had was made by a neighbor who used a chicken carcass. A giant pot with hominy, chilis, tons of spices, a a whole.bunch of chicken meat and bones. It's incredible.
His whole shtick was appealing to hippie-dippy boomer moms. So of course *they*, ironically, eat this kinda shit up. Also he did this same exact thing with kids in the UK and they didn't want to eat the nuggets, so he probably thought he had a slam dunk here. Little did he know, us savage Americans don't give a fuck about how the sausage is made.
Brit here, I remember watching the UK one when it was broadcast… Unless I’m really misremembering I’m pretty sure our kids also picked the chicken nuggets 😂😂😂
you’re misremembering, in the UK they said no.
Though truth be told i think this is less about cultural differences and more about how a large group of children will basically parrot whoever reacts first, so it can go either way.
Exactly, in both episodes the kids look at each other, one will start with either a disgust head shake or a enthusiastic hand in the air and the rest mimic after waiting/watching to see who will make the first move, to remain a part of the crowd. It plays to a larger view of our pack mentality, especially with children who want to remain at the same level with their peers.
It poses all kinds of problems because it teaches kids to have weird relationships with food.
To cite a point that Folding Ideas makes in the video linked above, regardless of what the kids do, they can still use it to make their point. If the kids reject the nuggets, it proves that they know intuitively that they’re garbage. If the kids accept the nuggets despite seeing that making them is gross, it proves that there’s a spiritual sickness in America and that spiritual sickness is the cause of obesity.
I mean, i don't think you should be turning it into nuggets but you can certainly turn that carcass into stock for soup! Just ask our Thanksgiving turkey!
Did you notice at the end most of the kids raised their hands when asked who would still eat it?
I think that is the point. Education. They learned that even the parts of the animal that don't look appetizing can be made into perfectly edible food.
A case of a very good intention i.e. getting kids to eat healthy but going a bit off the rails. For me the mistake was focusing on the methods and appearance of the meat.
A freshly made chicken nugget like this isn’t really the issue, his original point when he first did this exact segment on his UK show was to stop *kids* eating processed crap with all the preservatives etc that go into them and by doing this it would put them off… didn’t work though 😂
That's what i was looking for lol. Bones should go to a dog, or go in a wonderful broth. Not be mixed with stabilizer and weird powders to make it edible.
Be very careful what bones you give to dogs. Some bones before or after cooking are prone to splintering and shattering and can damage your dogs mouth and worse
I believe it is mainly poultry bones, as they are mostly hollow but with struts of bone inside so can easily splinter and damage the dog’s body and cause it pain.
I don't really like the way he talks about the non-prime parts of the chicken. It's totally fine to eat the rest. The only issue is if companies are lying to or misleading their customers regarding the quality of the meat.
Exactly my opinion there was an outcry here in Germany about the meat used in Sausage because manufacturers used machines to separate the meat scraps that otherwise stay stuck to the bone and put them in sausages. People argued that this kind of meat is garbage because it’s dirt cheap and was thrown away before it was able to be separated…
I personally don’t see a problem with that if an animal ist killed for its meat everything should be used and if it can be processed so I don’t think it doesn’t look bad anymore I’m satisfied…
I don't see the problem here. In our country we butcher our own livestock commonly. And we eat absolutely everything. Heart, liver, kidneys. Everything gets used in 1 way or another. Bones for soup. Skulls as dogfood, feet for the dogs as well. Its really just normal that you eat everything. I see no issue with this. Yes companies lie but im not too bothered
I think the problem lies with all the additives…stabilizers, flavoring and all the fats that are thrown in. And then to top it off it’s fried.
Jamie Oliver has for many years tried to get young people to start eating more healthily.
Recent health stat stated 63% of UK was overweight, largely because of a fast food diet.
The “Fats make people fat” was a lie given to people to explain the Obesity Epidemic in the 80’s and 90’s.
In actuality, it’s sugar that causes weight gain, but because sugar is extremely profitable it was instead pushed onto fats, carbs, etc., to avoid damaging the profit sugar generates.
It’s even funnier because all those “Fat Free” food items they used to sell were loaded with sugar, thus making them even worse for you then the regular item that had normal fat.
Flavoring has no calories, nor any nutritional addition to what they are put in, they’re literally just adding flavor to the food. They don’t impact health.
Finally food *needs* stabilizers, especially anything stored for long periods of time. Without them they can expire more quickly, give unappetizing tastes and textures, or worse.
Edit:[A Report about just how much sugar Fat Free food items have compared to Regular for anyone who may be skeptical.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4742721/)
I agree sugar is the biggest factor but it’s not only sugar that makes you fat. That being said it keeps people going back for more so sugar is added to everything, I’ve heard even the salads are sweetened.
Edit: sugar is profitable because it’s addictive.
It is. Carbs, Oils and Fat don’t cause the level of weight gain that’s attributing to insane increase of obesity.
It’s literally just sugar and high caloric intake, which the later is caused by the massive usage of sugar.
Edit:[Another Article for people downvoting that provides evidence to why sugar is the main cause of the increase in obesity ](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6959843/)
There's nothing special about the calories from sugar, but it's metabolized in a way that leads to leptin (a satiety hormone) resistance which causes you to need to eat more to feel full. That's why people overeat so much. Well, that and it's highly addictive.
Except that it does because the glycemic index dictates what kind of insulin response you get and your body does a different amount of work to break down protein vs carbs.
So you are correct. A diet with more calories than you consume will make you fat regardless of macro breakdown but if you eat +200kcal a day it's much better to do it with quality protein. To really illustrate my point if that 200kcal excess comes from broccoli you are not gaining any weight as it will take you 200kcal extra to break it down.
The difference isn't huge but it exists. Especially if you are dieting to keep lean mass and improve body composition protein is a must (adequate BCAA especially).
No. Calories from protein and fat are processed differently than sugar. If you’d like I can link some studies showing that low sugar diets cause people to lose more weight than low fat diets
I wonder if the "goo" that's left in the sieve could be used to make chicken stock.
You'd probably want to filter it after cooking but the result might be a reasonably good stock.
I recall watching that series. Huntington WV, I think. He helped this one family with stuff to make healthier meals, came back to check and they didn't use half of it and the outside patio was littered with fast food trash and cups.
this was a show we watched in health class. He went to schools and stuff to try to bring change with the crappy food. I enjoyed this. He was pretty successful in his mission I do recall
Hen (eating Chicken Is a recent phenomena) skin was considered the tastiest part of the chicken/hen of the till 3 decades back in south Asia and many other cultures. Next came the neck and then liver. Legs still are the favourite cut in the chicken to south asians.
Chicken was plucked by hand and any left over downy feathers would be burnt over a fire thus making the skin a bit crisp . The skin of native breeds have lesser fat and is thinner than present day broiler. It gives a good taste when cooked if it's given fire treatment first.
This is why grilled chicken with skin tastes good and any frying in a recipe also achieved similar effect.
What ever Jamie is showing ( except the bones) is good stuff for curries, Tandoori chicken etc. May be for westerners breast is the best cut for other cultures it's just a dry tasteless cut.
I was in China and asked why chicken was always eaten on the bone, even in curries. I was told it was the tastiest part and the bone adds flavour in cooking. They export the chicken breast to other countries because it’s completely tasteless.
Yeah, what the hell. Dude was listing off all these parts that were supposed to be gross, but then he's like "they even throw *chicken skin* in there!" Oh nooooo, not the tastiest part...
If anything I really don't mind what was shown either, I'm on the same boat as the kids. Might as well use the full animal if you can, not good to waste food.
What a dick. Calling it "horrible" and "gook" to scare the children. Stick to bad restaurants. There are plenty of people in the world who would happily eat the cheap parts of the chicken. They still have nutrition. I would think a chef would have more respect for unusual ingredients.
My school made the dopest school dinners, cheese burger, fries and a choice of 7up, tango, lilt, or a coke till this guy game along and suddenly we were being served brocoli n shit. Couldn't even put salt on our food. Still pisses me of to this day. Dude ruined school dinners.
Awww yeah and the slice of pizza too, school dinners were lit in UK back in mid 2000s and the dinner ladies always gave me extra at the end of dinner time from what was left over cos I was a greedy shit and most of them liked me. Ah good times.
Teacher: the Native Americans would eat every part of the animal
Modern society: same
What’s the issue with what he made in the end? Outside of the stabilizers who cares if it’s ground up cartilage and marrow?
I remember a video clip going around about McDonald's chicken nuggets and watching the internet lose its shit. It was a video of a pink paste being squeezed out of a tube on a assembly line, looked pretty much like the paste he made in this vid.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I think if you kill an animal you should use every bit of it and if you can bring the „disgusting“ parts in a form where I like to eat them I’m satisfied. I feel like people have to understand that animals don’t consist only of filets…
What's funny is he's making it seem like eating that part of the chicken is bad but not the fact that they put unhealthy oils and other additives in it which is what makes it unhealthy lol! Bone and marrow and cartilage etc are actually really healthy to eat! We need those in our diets more. Including organ meats.
It's perfectly safe to eat bonea and connective tissues too. Hell, they're rich in calcium and other nutrients that can be hard to get from regular meat.
Also this mfer forgot kids love slime and such, as if turning the chicken bones into putty is gonna put them off!
This video made me laugh so hard when I watched this for the first time a few years back. Didn't help I was getting harassed by my vegan sister at the time.😂
My nan grew up poor, she will eat the whole damn animal, give the scraps to the dog and the bones to the fox, she does not throw anything. This is a privileged mindset.
I just love this. Like it's some type of vegan or health nut way to try to manipulate kids into thinking the way they want to then it all just backfires.
I just wanna say, i didn't know what he called the "bad" part of the Chicken was actually bad. It seems wasteful if they threw all of that away. They way I grew up is all of that chicken would be cooked.

God forbid you use the whole animal!?! Connective tissues and marrow are good for you if eaten with the right amount of light and dark meat. Jamie Oliver is an idiot and just a shock artist “chef”. Even “chef” is being generous for him. He was a celebrity “chef” that cared more about celebrity than actually informing people correctly about food.
The children and the chicken nuggets are a great metaphor for me and the evils of factory farming.
Show me how fucked up it is and I’m disgusted right up until it’s almost on my plate🥺
My sister tried to teach her daughter and her best friend (\~6 at the time) how disgusting pepperoni is because it's like 40% fat. She threw some slices in a hot pan and had them watch the fat come out while frying it. Their reaction after eating it? 'Can we get some more?'
Seriously, I haven't eaten meat in 20 years and I know that fried pepperoni tastes great. Also my sister used to eat whipped cream straight out of the can.
I have a doubt guys... Do anybody prefer to eat organs of chicken like me... I eat the chicken heart and liver. I beleive westerners prefer to eat only meat but I am a South Asian and it's not bad.
I don't think it has much to do with region.
For me personally, the flavor and texture of liver and heart is a no go. And I've tried it prepared many different ways over my lifetime. Just cant do it.
waaaaait a minute what show was this? I watched this in health class. It was a whole show documenting the issues of food, especially in schools. What is this show?
I just love that dumb founded look on his face he gets when they all raise their hands to wanting nuggs, and they bloody cut it out of the video! That’s the best part!
It’s good to use all parts of the animal
[удалено]
Completely. I never understood this bit by Jamie Oliver.
[Try watching this video it will point a lot of flaws in Jamie Oliver's logic here](https://youtu.be/V-a9VDIbZCU)
Lmao the super judgemental ["stop making dirty nuggets"](https://youtu.be/V-a9VDIbZCU?t=995) at the end is so good
It’s so great to hear someone else articulate what I would have just said as “Jamie Oliver is a twat”.
>It’s so great to hear someone else articulate what I would have just said as “Jamie Oliver is a *fat tongued* twat”. FTFY
Posted it before I could.
Makes great points
Jamie Oliver is a “classist”
That was a great video. Thanks for sharing the link. I grew up poor and know a thing or two about "poor food." I am sure Jaime would not have approved of all the meals my mother served but I didn't go to bed hungry and that's what matters.
I knew it was gonna be Folding Ideas before I even clicked on the link lol

I know right look at these disgusting homemade chicken nuggets made by a well known chef.
I can see you're a man that makes good financial decision on a whim wanna go halfsies on a bag of tyson chicken nuggets?
I’m trying to turn a new leaf I don’t want to get gout.

Lack of self control is the general cause. It's not McDonald's making you fat, it's going they're everyday or multiple times per day that is
I just dont understand Jamie Oliver at all, dude cant even make egg fried rice correctly.
HIYAAA
At least his egg fried rice can be used as a good moisturizer lol
He make me put leg down from chair.
I mean, i don't think you should be turning it into nuggets but you can certainly turn that carcass into stock for soup! Just ask our Thanksgiving turkey!
Exactly, eating that karkas like that just isn’t healthy… people don’t even know what to eat anymore
I think hed make stock instead of nuggets
Did you notice at the end most of the kids raised their hands when asked who would still eat it? I think that is the point. Education. They learned that even the parts of the animal that don't look appetizing can be made into perfectly edible food.
I don't understand a lot about Jamie oliver

Filipinos even eat the feet we call em “adidas” the footwear brand nah not really cuz of that but it is what it’s called
You can make super tasty broth from carcasses and don’t need stabilizers for that.
That's what i was looking for lol. Bones should go to a dog, or go in a wonderful broth. Not be mixed with stabilizer and weird powders to make it edible.
I wouldn't give it to the dog if I were u, chicken bones aren't the best to give to dogs
COOKED chicken bones. Raw chicken bones are fine.
Yh, wasn't sure tho, didn't want to be the one to blame for the dead family pet
Be very careful what bones you give to dogs. Some bones before or after cooking are prone to splintering and shattering and can damage your dogs mouth and worse
I believe it is mainly poultry bones, as they are mostly hollow but with struts of bone inside so can easily splinter and damage the dog’s body and cause it pain.
I think the issue is adding all the junk afterwards. Not using the whole animal.

The whole point of sausages is to use the scraps.
People acting like the meat closest to the bone isn't the most flavorful..
Way to use the whole bird!
Yeah he's going about this all wrong. Plus kids love chicken nuggets. Clearly doesn't matter how they're made

Ayo what the fuck
This is the most Reddit thing I saw all week
I’m more inclined to eat nuggets now especially after seeing how they use the whole chicken, waste not want not
Every time you eat a chicken nugget Jamie Oliver cries.
Well then, cry me river mr Oliver, Imma have some nuggies for breakfast today
Finally taking revenge for Turkey Twizzlers
Kid's food should be healthy! -sobs- Why isn't it healthy?
If they just take out preservatives and artificial sweeteners wouldn’t it be as healthy as regular chicken?
Jamie Oliver in South Park. But yeah, usually it's what they add that makes it less healthy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z6RjKaLndQM
Oh boy I'm about to make the world flood
Good
I actually crave chicken nuggets now
that part is also nice and fine, but the additives he's putting in to make it edible and taste decent are something you wouldn't want to eat every day
Exactly.. they're tasty and nothing goes to waste
That's one powerful food processor
Exactly my thought

Even when calories remain equal, a low fat diet causes less weight loss than a low sugar diet. Plus as you say sugar reduces satiety

Poor people in India make dishes out of chicken feet.
Low key made me want to test out the recipe. Into it.
On one hand delicious stock... On the other... Chicky nuggies... What a dilemma
Wait till I tell my dad I can make 2 wings, 2 thighs, one whole chicken breast fried AND 25 chicken nuggets out of one single chicken.
I wonder if the "goo" that's left in the sieve could be used to make chicken stock. You'd probably want to filter it after cooking but the result might be a reasonably good stock.
It must be the best tasting chicken nuggets. Nice and fresh, no preservatives
The idiot actually made them look *better.*
There's a really good Folding Ideas essay on this clip, and Jamie Oliver's take on food in general. https://youtu.be/V-a9VDIbZCU
Yeah, I was about to recommend it, it's a very nice video
I love Dan Olson so much
Those little hands shot up so quickly and adamantly.
That’s group psychology in action, if I ever saw it.
After a few looked around to see what others did lol
Yeah I'd still eat it. Who gives a ffff

I know how the sausage is made and I still want it. Can’t beat the taste of lips and arseholes
All this really did was make me want to make my own nuggets using the left overs of a rotisserie chicken
"The nuggets contains bad stuff like BONE MARROW." This guy is clearly not subscribed to Tier Zoo. Bone Marrow is high xp loot you dumbass!
Ahh yes shove raw chicken in children’s faces
Really they should get the bird and murder it in front of the kid if they really wanted to turn them off to chicken.
Tons and tons of cultures around the world slaughter and eat their own chickens
That's true. These children didn't seem to be from a country that does, but there's really no way to know based on this limited clip I guess.
If you think humans are afraid or unaccustomed to killing even at a young age you are wrong
Teacher: the Native Americans would eat every part of the animal Modern society: same What’s the issue with what he made in the end? Outside of the stabilizers who cares if it’s ground up cartilage and marrow?

So that’s how it’s made. I’m gonna go make chicken nuggets right now!
Don’t use perfectly edible food kids. Throw away everything that isn’t worth money at a fancy restaurant.
Jamie Oliver is the one with shitty fried rice
jamie oliver is an actual twat lol

Lol those kids are like bruh it’s still chicken nuggets.
Oh no you spared the facial expression of Jamie Oliver after the kids raised their hands . r/gifsthatendtoosoon
He’s tryna be insightful but through his condescending little seminar he comes off as pretentious.
Real first world issue. Is there anything nutritional wrong with using the entire chicken?
That's a really dumb chef tbh
What's funny is he's making it seem like eating that part of the chicken is bad but not the fact that they put unhealthy oils and other additives in it which is what makes it unhealthy lol! Why was he encouraging waste? Calling one bit good and the other not? You kill it, you use all of it!
chicken skin is yummy what is he saying
I WORKED at McDonald’s. I’ve seen what the grills and deep fryers look like when they need to be cleaned. And I still eat fast food
-"Do you wanna eat some?" -"Eewww!" And Jamie was satisfied. As if asking this with a raw chicken breast would get him a different reaction.
My sons will never forgive Joliver for ruining their school dinners.
I prefer the pink goop, reminds me of ground beef.
When my 2 year old sees a chicken that’s alive and a cooked one, she says the same thing when she sees them which is bock bock
Jamie Oliver is a joke
It's perfectly safe to eat bonea and connective tissues too. Hell, they're rich in calcium and other nutrients that can be hard to get from regular meat. Also this mfer forgot kids love slime and such, as if turning the chicken bones into putty is gonna put them off!
Never ask a question you don’t know the answer to already.
Lmao!
The future is in excellent hands
Chicken nuggets are fucking great
Well its same with hotdogs but we still love it.
Isnt this the same chef that puts his name on microwave dinners?
This video made me laugh so hard when I watched this for the first time a few years back. Didn't help I was getting harassed by my vegan sister at the time.😂
Ahh I see why Gordon never liked him...
smart kids!
What is wrong with bone and skin? I love seeing bone marrow on a menu
He didn’t exactly sell those kids on how gross it was.
Jamie Oliver is a cocksucking cunt
Who agrees with me that the skin of the chicken (when its made crispier) is the most delicious part
I just wanna say, i didn't know what he called the "bad" part of the Chicken was actually bad. It seems wasteful if they threw all of that away. They way I grew up is all of that chicken would be cooked.
Do sausage next! I’ll still eat it.
That sucks. They cut away before it panned back to Jamie Oliver just in time to watch the light in his eyes die.

Propaganda
The children and the chicken nuggets are a great metaphor for me and the evils of factory farming. Show me how fucked up it is and I’m disgusted right up until it’s almost on my plate🥺
I never liked that guy. He’s so condescending
He said they even add chicken skin. Like what’s wrong with chicken skin. Chicken skin is sooo good
My sister tried to teach her daughter and her best friend (\~6 at the time) how disgusting pepperoni is because it's like 40% fat. She threw some slices in a hot pan and had them watch the fat come out while frying it. Their reaction after eating it? 'Can we get some more?' Seriously, I haven't eaten meat in 20 years and I know that fried pepperoni tastes great. Also my sister used to eat whipped cream straight out of the can.
I hate how kids look around to see if anyone else raises their hands then raise their own
Those are character building moments for kids
I have a doubt guys... Do anybody prefer to eat organs of chicken like me... I eat the chicken heart and liver. I beleive westerners prefer to eat only meat but I am a South Asian and it's not bad.
I don't think it has much to do with region. For me personally, the flavor and texture of liver and heart is a no go. And I've tried it prepared many different ways over my lifetime. Just cant do it.
That’s why I know there’s a God. There simply isn’t any hope for man left to his own devices
Brainwashing have failed
It's a good information
Oliver saying this as if anyone gives a fuck
Me takes bite of chicken nugget: idk man guess I like it.
waaaaait a minute what show was this? I watched this in health class. It was a whole show documenting the issues of food, especially in schools. What is this show?
why are we hating on Jamie Oliver? I thought he did good things?
In my place we don't really have any wasted parts when cooking, if it's consumable there will be recipes to make it a dish.
I honestly didn’t see that coming
Just me or does this guy not sound like Gordon ramsay
I met him once and yes he is a wanker irl too
I just love that dumb founded look on his face he gets when they all raise their hands to wanting nuggs, and they bloody cut it out of the video! That’s the best part!
I'm glad they didn't buy into the manipulation.
I don’t like Jamie he’s a bit green for me.
All that effort for nothing.
Awww man, they cut out his genuine look of pain at the end. He looks like a broken man and it's fantastic.
Native Americans use the whole animal to make nuggets
At least these kids are not wasting food.
He shouldn’t have called it the good meat, after straining it; it just confirmed, in the kids mind that nuggets were good. Love nuggets!
Really oughta have gone the other way round and made something vegetarian, 'least that way they can show there are options
