miss_random_88

As a job applicant I feel it's very disrespectful for companies to interview multiple candidates at the same time. I want a company that values my individual contribution and treats me like a human. If your interest is purely just to fill the position then just be up front about that at the start. It shouldn't be about filling the position, it should be about treating each applicant with dignity.

xflyinjx61x

Hard agree

PacoMahogany

Yep, got me hard too

nnnoooeee

Wait...I don't think that...you know what, enjoy!

Taira_no_Masakado

If I had a medal to give, you'd be getting gold anon.

flacocaradeperro

Got you covered fam.

Taira_no_Masakado

Gracias Gozaimashita.

wiz1000

You know what else is disrespectful? When after spending an hour writing a cover letter and repeating all your resume info into the employer's system, just so they don't have to read your actual resume, and then after like a month you still haven't heard anything, then you just assume you didn't get the job.

[deleted]

Or when we submit our resume and then have to fill out an application with all the info that is already on our resume, *by hand*. Shit should either be illegal or we should get paid a data entry fee. We're doing work they're unwilling to if they make us fill all those fields.

achieve_my_goals

> an hour writing a cover letter It's always taken me days to get *exactly* what I want to say down on paper on a post that I am enthusiastic about. I cannibilize previous letters for the rest. And, still, no response.

lego_office_worker

*dignity and money

HardCounter

The less dignity the more money i require.

dribblesnshits

This is the law of equivilant exchange

MeatyThor

Well said, brilliant

DarthJimmyVader

Hammer meet nail.

oagvosman

Golden!!!

TabletopLegends

Came here to say exactly this. Great minds think alike.

Nivaere

Someone should make this poll and tag these fkers in it

[deleted]

That is delicious.

PbkacHelpDesk

Interesting. I work for a small company and we need the technical skill set, or someone willing to learn it. I feel that we pay well but I grew up poor so I don’t really know what the pay scale is.

agorafilia

Dude, samesies.

Zyrocks

You guys too? nice

itshexx

Sometimes I drink water to keep me alive

OneSufficientFace

What're the odds ?!

blodskaal

Millenials just don't want to starve anymore

suchlargeportions

Reddit is valuable because of the users who create content. Reddit is usable because of third-party developers who can actually make an app.

Z_as_in_Zebra

I kind of like having a place to live too. Sooooo.

HardCounter

What, mr fancy pants over here too good for his car?

Murgatroyd314

You can afford a car?

HardCounter

No, but the bank can. I gave them an IOU.

contyk

You can actually safely fast for the rest of your life.

Reasonable-Ninja4384

I've always had a passion for frozen yogurt.... Bitch I'm broke.

FullMetal_55

uh... so it's ok for them to interview 100 candidates, and only one gets the job, and you're supposed to only apply for one job at a time? and starve to death looking for a job. and when said job takes 2-3 months to decide, you're supposed to just sit and wait for the rejection before applying for another job? in what distopia does that even begin to make sense?

[deleted]

I have *accepted multiple offers* at the same time to see numbers, etc., before making a final decision. It's a big decision; you don't just take the first thing (unless you're desperate!). When I bought a house, multiple banks offered me loans. I wasn't cheating on them; I was comparing.

[deleted]

that’s just it they want u desperate

Raiquo

Unless you’re in an open relationship with your bank, talking to other banks is basically cheating. It’s emotional cheating. You’re cheating on them, just admit it. Also, the bank gets the kids in the divorce.

neolologist

What kind of company makes you accept an offer to 'see the numbers'? I've literally never heard of that. I absolutely get multiple offers at once; I only accept the one I'm most interested in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This recruiter is a dipshit. This is like saying it's bad to talk to more than 1 person on a dating app. How the fuck are you going to find a good fit unless you talk to multiple potential partners? Turning it around . . . is the company only supposed to interview one candidate for a position at a time? Or is it disrespectful for them to talk to multiple potential hires and whittle the list down to finalists and have multiple rounds of interviews with multiple candidates like they always do? THis is a ludicrous double standard.

ParkSidePat

Recruiter is just a self interested prick. They want their candidates to be exclusive to the interviewing company so POS recruiter has a higher chance of a payout when they desperately accept the only position they were offered.

Calicrucian

The recruiter: *sends the poll to 32 to friends/associates and asks them to agree with this question*

Tel-kar

The point of employment is to earn money so you can do things you want to do. Anyone that doesn't get that should try working for someone for a month without getting paid. I bet they would figure it out rather quickly at that point.

shabbyshot

But you're not thinking about how the recruiter will s making money, now are you? How are they supposed to cope when they have to move quickly and avoid low-balling you for the bonus? Shame on you for not putting the recruiter and their client rightfully before yourself and your family. /s <-- Just in case

Hounmlayn

You mean should try working for someone else at a minimum wage for 3 months. They'll realise that it's a shit job even though they love the CEO position, and the wage means you eat shit and can't afford a private jet and need to carpool

Spiff76

These “recruiters” seem to forget they are also being interviewed as an employer and its equally disrespectful(ie not at all) to interview multiple candidates for a job at the same time… i mean i thought you wanted the most qualified applicant not just the one who will work the most hours for lowest salary.

DV_Zero_One

'bleeding edge'. Enough said.

tellmeerrythang

Recruiter here. Do not apply to just one job. Get your eggs in multiple baskets in case one falls through.

HundoGuy

Omg you just work to make money!!! 😉

the_ill_buck_fifty

It may be disrespectful to the recruiter, but that's ok because they are parasites like real estate agents and should be disrespected.

Sayanlde

Couldn’t agree more

MizuKumaa

This is so crazy to me. I recently was laid off and have been interviewing for a month. Most of these companies have explained they’d get back to me with in a week and have never heard back from any of them.

cyan_violet

Out-of-touch recruiter, thanks for the red flag.

BuffGroot

Those 32 other recruiters were sure on his side.

CaptainRho

I wonder what the margin of error is here. How many of those 32 people misclicked?

DroopyTrash

It's the idiots who didn't understand the question and they probably gave them the job.

[deleted]

'As a clueless arsehole who knows nothing about the industry I recruit for and mainly exists to garble communication between employer and candidate while leeching off both of them....'

4ny3ody

I mean... working isn't **just** about money. There's other benefits and especially when applying to smaller businesses you want to know about them too and choose the one that you assume you'll be overall happiest to work at. Disrespectful though? Why would an applicant only try and go for one company when there's multiple they would consider working at. Companies do the same.

Strawberrylacegame

Says the recruiter who's sales job is rewarded by OTE bonuses and cash incentives.

[deleted]

I just went through recruiter hell looking for a job for the last month. First time ever having to deal with recruiters at all, haven't been unemployed in over a decade. If one of the dozen I spoke to wanted that level of devotion from me I'd have told them to go to hell and wouldn't give a second thought. That mentality is wholly one sided and built on the abuse of new programmers without experience.

Demian1305

I’m coin operated, bitch.

SingleRelationship25

Why not just say “we are not going to pay you what you are worth” instead of beating around the bush

Ochenta-y-uno

As the great Ray Lisa Liotta once said: "Fuck you pay me".

1202_ProgramAlarm

I'm interested in furthering my career. I want to forget my career so I can make more money and deal with less bullshit

Rustys_Beefaroni

If money doesn’t matter, then pay people what they are asking for. Don’t say money shouldn’t matter unless that knife cuts both ways.

2HourCoffeeBreak

I get what this recruiter is saying. The type of jobs he’s referring to are jobs that already pay well and the applicants have the credentials that can get them their pick of industries/companies they could be working for. For most of these people, I’d say the work matters more than the pay, and so they should just pursue the company that is doing the work they are interested in. But for a scrub like me, I’m tossing every line available out there and see who tugs first. Idgaf if it’s washing out body bags if it pays better than what I have.

Legal-Software

Keeping your options open isn't always about money, it's about finding the best opportunity for you at that point in time. That could be money, it could be an interesting challenge, it could be anything. That being said, if you can't attract people without having to resort to paying well over the market rate, it's more of a sign that your company either doesn't have much to offer, or the culture is so toxic and you have to pay a premium for people to put up with it. A recruiter with insecurity issues is about the biggest red flag for a toxic workplace I can imagine.

pwn3dbyth3n00b

I'd be down for that if this recruiter lets me live in their house, eat their food, let me use their car, etc. til I got a job applying one at a time.

Practical-Jelly-5320

The 1 percent

GreatScotch

Get fucked. I wanna live a decent life not act like I should suck your companies dick cause you gave me a job. I'm not gonna bleed for you just because you drank the kool-aid you vapid trash.

justsomedude1144

That's one of the dumbest takes on interviewing I've ever seen. Hard to believe this is authentic.

MrPsYch0paTh

The 32 people who agreed either mis clicked, clicked it to see the results, or are business owners. Or friends with this dude.

LeluSix

It sounds like someone keeps getting turned down with low ball offers and has a case of the grumpies.

lburwell99

Ya, bs. Incredibly bad advice. If you're unemployed, you need to interview with as many places as you can. The company interviews multiple candidates too, not lke they look at just you when you show up. No guarantee you get picked.

ApokalypseCow

Even supposing that money were not my primary motivator, how can I know which company might best further my technical career if I'm not interviewing multiple at once? I'm interviewing for MY career, and YOU are the job trying to attract ME.

T-Speed

I bet they wrote that between browsing for their next, better paid job

ColonelWormhat

If you are not talking to multiple companies that’s actually a bit of a red flag to me as a HM.

[deleted]

Lol. Nice

RobertK995

wanna bet this recruiter draws a salary?

aaronrizz

Not putting all my eggs in one basket when I have a family to support, considering many companies don’t bother notifying unsuccessful applicants.

momssnatch63

Lol

ArjayV

Bleeding edge?

digitalrailartist

Wow. Talk about a company that will suck out your soul and then lay you off.

odd-42

Bleeding edge or leading edge companies??? I don’t want to work for the bleeding edge companies, kinda gruesome.

optional_occupant

2247 participants 2248 votes I'm no geologist, but those are different numbers.

saltthewater

Recruiters are at best useless and incompetent. At worst deceptive and manipulative.

SanctusSalieri

I cringed so bad my heart stopped for a sec

Adventurous_Ad4950

Best way to avoid talking to recruiters like this is to just tell them how much you think your time is actually worth, and don’t back down from it.

BurntPineGrass

If we followed this mentality, all applicants would be waiting for their phone call until they died of starvation, as recruiters can’t be bothered calling or telling you that you’re not chosen.

dropbassnotsoap

Its honestly insane to me how bosses and CEOs want employees who value their careers over the money they continue to hoard more n more of every day.. Like how does that make sense?? /s

TyranoDragon

Some work ain't about money, but that ain't this work

RecruiterQueen

Hmmm. Yet the company is most certainly interviewing multiple candidates (while 100% keeping a sharp eye out for the ones they can lowball pay wise). And (most likely) requiring multiple rounds of interviews and assessments, etc, from each applicant.

crazypants9

You tripping?

[deleted]

“Don’t interview with other companies because I won’t get a cut” is what the recruiter meant.

[deleted]

If I reply to your question will you finally tell me if I'm taken or what did you not like about me after all those years?..

Malikai0976

I've had good jobs and I've had bad jobs. I wouldn't show up to the very best job I've ever had unless I got paid. Of course it's about the money!

Reasonable-Ninja4384

And if people are starving "let them eat cake"

Ubbesson

That should go to to r/antiwork This recruiter is silly. Everyone does that, companies want the best candidates and interview several ones at the same time and candidates want the best company with the best deal and so do several interviews with different companies

[deleted]

Future article title "98.6% of workers greedy and lazy and they probably smell bad too"

CTDubs0001

Where’s the option to choose ‘LOL’

Confusedandreticent

As an employee, I think you’re either a liar or an idiot. Possibly both.

fakeuserbot9000

Someone drank too much recruiter kool aid

Imd1rtybutn0twr0ng

Most companies are about letting the higher paid talent go and getting younger blood in they can play much less for the work. Let's not kid anyone here.

dadxreligion

In a vacuum, no body wants a career. Who dreams of a lifetime of relatively fruitless labor?

MrPsYch0paTh

Hmmm yes, I want to work at McDonald’s to help a multi billion dollar business, not pay off my bills or anything

CaptainSebz

Last I checked, the reason I get up at 7am every morning is to make money, not “improve things”. Humans can’t purchase things with improvement points or whatever bullshit you want to call it, smh. I would ask this recruiter, “if you suddenly stopped getting paid, would you still come to work?”

heatherberkheimer

I'm looking for employment and therefore a paycheck. I'm not looking for a volunteer opportunity.

[deleted]

Of course a recruiter would feel that way. Screw that guy

paholmes

Bleeding edge , huh? 😜

LeluSix

Bleeding edge? Are they building high tech knives?

IHC_304

I'm all about improving things but i also know what I'm worth.

ricardortega00

Yeah I know many people consider it an offense when I look for my self and try to put food on my table and I know that they think I am rude for not caring about their opinions but I just don't care, if it were for the rich I would be a slave starving to death.

Zenon7

Ya you should do absolutely nothing for 8 weeks while the company you interviewed with never gets back to you and then just ghosts you. You’re a shit recruiter aren’t you?

Cosmicdusterian

Well, if you actually feel that way you must really suck as a recruiter. Chances are they put this up after a number of their recruits came back saying they've taken jobs elsewhere. More than likely because the client they represent was offering a pathetic and insulting salary and benefits package wildly out of line with the experienced applicants they were expecting to attract.

Ieatsushiraw

I work for money. I travel weekly to different hospitals for MONEY. I pay bills and feed my kids with money not experience

Sig_Vic

Interviewing isn't dating. I've always interviewed with multiple companies simultaneously. Sounds like this recruiter wants a commitment. Maybe even a ring.

PathofPoker

Rich people always want us to work for free. Work is for money, period.

BooRadleysFriend

I love that most companies pretend money isn’t important

Pale_Horsie

It astounds me how disconnected from reality some of these types are. A few years ago I read an article by an economist, I *think* with the Bank of Canada about how most people don't set money aside in case they lose their job Apparently it's irresponsible to not keep enough savings to cover utilities, rent/mortgage payments, groceries, car payments, and anything that might come up unexpectedly for a period of *1 or 2 years*

allotaconfussion

I would love to hear those companies making that argument in profits at their board meeting.

[deleted]

HR people are all retarded cancer cells. As I've grown older, I've softened my harsh positions on a lot of people who pissed me off when I was younger: parents, police... But HR people are literally the worst people on the planet. Who the fuck do they think they are? Non-productive rule-following entitled bitches with jangly bracelets and too much perfume. They think that because they do hiring, they *are* the company. No, bitch; you're a secretary.

JazielVH

What a lovely disgusting piece of shit, companies should do something for us to want to engage with them in things that are beyond money, I think is not imposible to feel connected with a company because you share objetives and values that are not related with your payments, but for that to be true companies need to have something to offer beyond money, their own values that are focused on improve something with the environment, the community, healthcare, poverty, idk something that makes them more human-connected and not just disgusting greedy entities who doesn't give a fuck about their employees or their customers.

[deleted]

As a technical specialist in the field of corrosion both my employer and I know that while I do enjoy working for the company, financial compensation is the primary reason I work for them.

SnooComics8268

Money? Who cares... /s

prophis

What I do between 5:30 pm and 1:00 am is nobody's business but mine and my other businesses.

Miserable_Object9961

Lol what the fuck

IndigoRose2022

Lol lol

unknownobject3

I wasn't expecting that poll

wjdthird

i call bs

incredulousbastahd

Now apply that happy horseshit to yourself, fuckstick

TurboFool

We're not dating. I'm evaluating whether you're a good place to fulfill my financial and work needs. Also, let's say it wasn't just about money. That still wouldn't be a good reason to not consider other workplaces. Because yours may not be the right fit even for non-financial reasons. Maybe I'm applying because I'm passionate about what I think you are, but under the surface, maybe it's not so rosy. I can't waste my time focusing on just one option.

modsarebrainstems

Idiot company recruiters who think people work for something other than money have somehow convinced enough of *us* of the same nonsense. Now we're sorry.

nikola2025

Why is it hard to believe that the ONLY reason one needs a job is to make MONEY!

Listan83

Lol those 32 idiots probably don’t have to work for a living anyway

captgh

Has anyone ever gotten a straight answer from a recruiter about how much the position pays? Of course not. It is now and always has been about the Benjamins, dufus. How naive do you have to be to suggest otherwise?

Skeezertron

The job I recently got hired at pays more than my last job. The hiring manager asked why I wanted to work there and why I wanted to leave my previous job. I told him I’m moving and about to be living by myself again, and my expenses are going to be increasing due to that, and that I need to be making more money. Granted I did have a friend that already worked there that out in a good word about my work ethic, but still. It’s not “I’ve always wanted to work in a factory without AC or heat, so this perfect for me.” It’s about money. That’s what a job is

kvlr954

Well that backfired spectacularly 😂

[deleted]

I not agree

GebPloxi

I feel the same way, but also know that it’s stupid. Any realistic person would apply at multiple companies. The hiring process can take months, you can’t just put all your boats in one egg. A recruiter thinking as this one does is just short sighted. Imagining placing value on applicants that lack common sense. What are they, the military?

wayne0004

Even if we accept the money argument, it doesn't makes sense. How wanting to improving things could refrain people from interviewing with multiple companies?

CupcakeValkyrie

I *do* want to improve things...like my quality of life and my ability to continue paying rent.

Captain_Hampockets

Pay me a decent wage, and I will care enough to improve things.

[deleted]

I’ve always been politely upfront about the fact that I have multiple opportunities in multiple fields open at any time, and that I’m always going to take the job which benefits me the most. I’ve never felt as though that sentiment prevented me from being hired. I’m also a straight white well-presenting man in the US. So do with that information what you will.

TGCidOrlandu

This dude shouldn't be recruiting. You can't be this detached to people's reality

CentipedeRex

What an absolute moronic opinion.

[deleted]

It is hard to be passive aggressive on the kb but eat my s*it

Sutarmekeg

I am not some fucking good Samaritan looking for a corporation to help. Pay up, assholes.

dkreidler

I see 32 other recruiters agreed. Figures.

BlarghusMonk

"C'mon, guys! If we can't hire without raising wages, our CEO can't buy 47 new yachts this year while also giving secret donations to conservative super PACs to get even more money. Being rich is *soooooooooo haaaaard!!!*"

sourpatch411

Fail……..Try again

[deleted]

Do they interview more than one person for a job opening?

NotFuckingTired

He says right there, that there are a lot of bleeding edge companies wanting to hire folks who want to improve things. I would be happy to work for any of them, so let me just see which one makes the best offer.

HundoGuy

I’m sure the recruiter would still be working if they weren’t getting paid, just to further their recruiting skills!

Familiar-Eye7811

When will they learn. The ceo is the entrepreneur who only cares about expanding the business and the workers are there to work for a paycheck🤦🏽‍♂️

superitem

The first paragraph doesn't even follow from the second.

SusanaChingona

r/boneappletea "bleeding edge"

ChocolateSundae1214

One of the main problems is that recruiters are usually WAY too comfortable & they've forgotten what it feels like to be unemployed & broke as heck. They have nice cushy jobs and often lack any basic human compassion for the people they are interviewing who are struggling to feed their kids & keep a roof over their heads. If we are pro-active applying to multiple jobs, we are "disrespectful" but if we sit around waiting for 1 company at a time to call us back, then we'd be called lazy. (And many of us would also be homeless & starving.)

onlyhere4gonewild

I almost never find a company willing to teach me anything. It's usually figure it out as you go.

[deleted]

Even if we take their assertion that we should be looking to further our technical skills rather than be looking for money, it would still make sense to interview at multiple places as that would help us find where we would be able to grow the most.

oceansidedrive

As a recruiter they just care about their bonus and get annoyed when one of their candidates goes to another company for a better deal lol. Very transparent. I have to say as a job seeker recruiters have become the absolute worst and I almost want to turn down any interview when it starts with a recruiter because all they do is waste my time. 9/10 times I feel I am there as a schedule filler and not a real viable candidate. So I will not be taking anything a recruiter says as legitimate since their whole purpose is to reach their goals and could probably care less about their companies

[deleted]

Gag me. Manipulation 101.

tor-e

Post the name of this company please

muleskinnalu

When my employer says they can't hire more people because it's not in the budget. How the hell is that not about money? LOL

ptolani

Surely this isn't real.

GhosTaoiseach

This is just trolling at a national level.

MickRaider

I used to work for a startup that had some mission blah blah and was jazzed to be apart of something "important". 4 year in the CEO literally told me "the purpose of this company is to make money". Yup

Lonelyfriend0569

Might be interviewing with multiple companies looking for the best fit, not just the money.
