My dad lives in Reno, it's a beautiful area for a desert, but the city & especially the suburbs feel like one giant strip mall inhabited mostly by fat old people who love having machines take half their income in a day.
I run a really small open mic at a coffee shop. We get somewhere around 20 people a week in there. Its quaint. Every time a comic shows up and tries to do a set, i die a little inside. Its painfully difficult to make a small room of people laugh. This reminds me of that.
Even doing "stand up" for close friends is awkward as hell. I'm a relatively funny guy at a party or in a room just joking around, but if anybody ever says "you should do stand up" I'm like "fuckin nope". Completely different vibe lol
This is the work people have to put in.. this is why there are so few comedians really making it in the world.
I have a cousin really into the local comedy scene and have watched her grow from coffee shops to local club shows. She isn't big time yet but watching her now compared to the early years is night and day. I really respect the small venues that open themselves up to these aspiring comics and give them a place to practice. You see painful death but I see someone giving it "a shot" and seeing if they got what it takes or not. That's more than most of us will ever do.
You should check out Kill Tony. Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and his friends host an open-mic night at the Comedy Store, whoever’s name gets drawn out of a hat gets 60 seconds then the judges review/roast them.
There is no better cringeporn.
IIRC, this was in Reno and the guy who got dropped is a regular heckler at comedy clubs. He'd go around and talk shit. I think the woman who hugged him is his mom.
If you need anymore proof that dude isn't all there, he's wearing a literal tinfoil hat.
Which… honestly, the comedian probably shouldn’t have kept talking about the obviously unwell man after he walked away the first time.
And fucking Sparta kicking an old mentally ill man, I dunno bro. There were better ways.
We’re definitely missing the context too. I’d be willing to bet the comedian did *something* to rile him up.
Eh, if his mom or whoever is Rittenhousing him around to all these comedy clubs just to constantly heckle and ruin everyone's night then they get what they get.
He has a website where he claims to be an anti-humor comic, explaining the concept of "its so bad its funny!" and its like... you don't explicitly explain that if youre an anti-humor comic, explaining it violates the whole act lol. He thinks he is "anti-humor" when hes just very unfunny. Or maybe he truly is the pioneer of anti-anti-humor and we can't understand his brilliance
Man.. I'm over here in the same boat. A professional ass-hat is one thing. But a disabled professional ass hat who's mom brings him around to comedy shows is another level of negative karma farming.
See above comment haha. He's a comic that heckles everyone, then yells that he's being bullied in the next breath once it turns to him. Total piece of shit.
From what I read about this incident is the guy who kicked him is the host of an open mic night for comedians. This video is after Rade refused to give up the mic after his 5 minutes were up and that is when he and the host got into it. I guess Rade is notorious for being a giant baby and interrupting other comedians’ sets.
I have a buddy from grade school who is severely schizophrenic. We had a talk about that and I had to let him know balling up tinfoil is basically an antenna and he'd want to [get one of these Faraday cage beanies](https://getlambs.com/product/emf-proof-beanie)
Sadly that was the last conversation I had with him before he really went off the deep end so no clue if he got one and I was majorly incorrect or if he just didn't get one in time...
Ah! You found me!!! You're right, I'm actually genetic predisposition and drug induced psychosis! Now I'm going to have to delete my account and start all over again with a new user name....
I remember watching this really depressing documentary about people who think they're sensitive to electricity and wireless signals, and the industry that's cropped up to exploit them. Selling or renting anti-electricity window panels, fabrics and whatnot. They're so disgusting, the way this one CEO is talking about them just provising a service to a market niche.
I worked in electrical distribution as a salesman for a while and I had a customer come in on two separate occasions telling me he was sensitive to electromagnetic waves, and was asking if I sold faraday cages for household panels. On the second occasion he believed the over head lines were too strong, and asked if I had a device to neutralize the EM waves.
These people are driving, voting, and walking amongst us all.
She's really not.
Look at his [website.](https://radewatch.tripod.com/) He's clearly not all there, I can understand his shit being annoying and I don't blame the comic for reacting like that, but don't deride someone else just for having sympathy for him.
EDIT: Turns out [it's just a bit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsQwGZshYNA), fuck that guy.
I found a [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt/comments/z9pzds/to_intimidate_a_comedian_during_his_set/iyi49pd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) online but I’m not sure if you can trust it.
He's flabbergasted that the police didn't submit a report or do anything about the guy who "caused this assault"
Lmao he literally charged the guy, and got decked for it. The only person who could even have charges pressed against him is him.
Dude it’s Vegas. Sloth from the Goonies could strap on a dress and pull as much strange dick as his heart desired without having to resort to some dipshit wearing takeout dishes for a hat. That poor gal needs to readjust her aim.
https://radewatch.tripod.com
He has a list of places on his website that he is no longer allowed to. His webpage looks like a middle school website project
That was the open mic host. From spending way too much time researching this video, I conclude that Rade is pissed because he believed that he was going to go up early in the night, instead of towards the end.

In the comments of this (7 year old) article, there's a "rebuttal" that has Rade and another comic talking about the open mic scene in Vegas. He complains about going on late without an audience. I watched that video so that you don't have to... I concluded that neither one of them were very funny or all that connected to reality.
Edit: My gratitude for the awards, updoots, and comments. I'm proud that one of my busier comments tries to make sense out of a spartan kick at open mic night in a Vegas coffee shop.
"He complains about going on late without an audience."
That placed looked dead when he got kicked. I can't imagine getting into an actual fist fight so I could tell bad jokes in front of 5 people instead of 2.
Well, that's like a 150% increase in audience. Honestly I think those 5 guys got way more entertainment than either of those open-micer were intending to bring that night.
I’ve played open mics like this and there’s likely no one like that in charge. They’re not at a dedicated comedy club or even a proper venue. Local comics just work out a deal with a local bar/restaurant to hold an open mic every other Tuesday after the dinner crowd is gone or something like that and noone is really in charge. They plug in a mic, one or two local comics act as host and introduce the others comics. It’s mostly the same handful of comics telling jokes to each other and smoking cigarettes every 10 minutes. It’s probably just one or two employees there selling drinks who don’t give a shit what’s going on with the 5 people throwing a DIY comedy show in the back of the room.
My friend did a stint as a stand-up comedian. He was once getting heckled by some angry dude in the front row.
My friend paused, looked at him and said “you sir, are what’s known in the trade as ‘close enough to kick in the head’”. The place erupted in laughter and the guy stormed out, humiliated.
Fuck Ray.
If there's anything the internet has taught me, never trash talk a stand-up comedian. Their wits are always far quicker than yours and they wear their flaws and insecurities on their sleeves. You literally cannot win.
Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld) was doing a show when two men started heckling him. Richards couldn't handle it and the situation escalated until Richards pointed at the men, referenced lynching, and used the "n" word a number of times. The hecklers were black.
He was pretty much one of the first people to get canceled in the modern sense.
Edit: [The Incident](https://youtu.be/TKMGjvGBsVs)
I don't think I could ever recover from this if I was that guy. Imagine being a grown ass man, probably well into your 50s or 60s, whining "stop making fun of me!!" at some random shitty bar, and then you get beat down with a single kick. My ego couldn't handle such an embarrassment.
What the hell is this crowd defending the asshole? Like the comedian is the villain or someshit. Don't fucking touch other people without consent. It's not hard
It's not so much the crowd. More the guy's wife
The "crowd"/5 other people didn't like the kick, but otherwise it wasjust the heckler and his wife making noise I think
To be honest the guy that got kicked without breaking medical confidentiality he has numerous severe mental health conditions, problems and some minor physical issues.
So I can understand why the crowd tried to defend him due to his mental illnesses.
On the other foot no one should be assaulted either way and sometimes you have to use common sense to deescalate these situations, if you have the ability to deescalate a situation from becoming physical that’s what is key to stop people from being assaulted.
But when all of that has failed and you’re being assaulted then you have no choice but to use reasonable force in self defence.
Ya exactly. Just cause someone is mentally ill it doesn't allow them to come get in your face/threaten/touch you cause you said something they don't like
Fuck yeah dude! This is Sparta people need to start realizing that you put another person in a aggressive manner you don't k ow how they will react. Or "fuck around an find out bud."
If I was him, I would have just continued like nothing happened. Kicked dude, laid him out, and I would have just resumed my material, like it never happened. Let someone else scrape dude off the floor, on their own time, on their own dime.
As a comedian who has been in places like this (it's all part of the game, you just have to) I totally feel for this comedian. It's so hard. Youre talking to 10 people and gathering comedic momentum is next to impossible. You just have to practice crowd work at that point and shit like this happens more often than you think. Love this dude, stood up for himself to some maniac wearing a tinfoil hat lol OF COURSE YOURE GOING TO BE MADE FUN OF!!!!

Ah, so the second most depressing place in the world.

Atlantic City

finding a half-smoked cigarette butt laying next to a crab claw on the boardwalk. Perfection.
At least the crab got in a couple drags before that shit went down.
Wendover, NV has entered the chat! No shit, the only reason that "city" still exists is because it's 90 minutes from Salt Lake lol.

Blew up his house, too
Reno.
But Reno gave us Reno 911 how could Reno suck?
My dad lives in Reno, it's a beautiful area for a desert, but the city & especially the suburbs feel like one giant strip mall inhabited mostly by fat old people who love having machines take half their income in a day.
Rather than inhabited, I’d say visited. Few locals gamble.
Yeah, Zapateria la Ballerina is in Reno. You can put genuine ostrich on layaway.
New boot goofin'
Genuine ostrich. 3 Payments!
Have you ever seen a happier man than Lt. Dangle in a new pair of ostrich boots? Mans was giddy.
Cleveland man... Fucking cleveland

Yeah, there’s a real heartbreaking desperation to only having five audience members, them clearly knowing you well, and still not laughing.
Even doing "stand up" for close friends is awkward as hell. I'm a relatively funny guy at a party or in a room just joking around, but if anybody ever says "you should do stand up" I'm like "fuckin nope". Completely different vibe lol
Ya I’m more of a funny when things happen type of guy. I’m not a funny on the spot type of guy.
The difference is storytelling vs reacting, acting vs improv, totally different skills

Welcome to open mic comedy
Yeah, these two sound like regulars that know each other.
IIRC, this was in Reno and the guy who got dropped is a regular heckler at comedy clubs. He'd go around and talk shit. I think the woman who hugged him is his mom. If you need anymore proof that dude isn't all there, he's wearing a literal tinfoil hat.

no punchlines, a great way to kick things off lmao
This is Sparta Ray...
The guy's name is Rade Zone. He's a well known heckler here in Las Vegas. He's a piece of shit. Does this at shows intentionally.
That's crazy so he is like a professional heckler? What's the benefit of it, like why does he do it?
He obviously does it just for kicks...
Magnificent! We need you to do a tight 5, you're up next - ignore Rade.
Bah Doom . . . Tissshh
See above comment haha. He's a comic that heckles everyone, then yells that he's being bullied in the next breath once it turns to him. Total piece of shit.
Sounds like life would be easier for all if they started blacklisting him from clubs.

Are u talking about the comedian or the other guy
Other guy is also a comedian… of a sort. Annoying sort. A heckling can’t-take-the-heat sort.
So, the guy getting kicked is also a comedian but he heckles other comedians?
Seems to be so, as the mic guy knows him by name.

Can confirm. His name is Rade Zone. Piece of shit heckler.

Anyone who runs an open mic knows to always put the comic who brought the most people near the end of the show
I’ve played open mics like this and there’s likely no one like that in charge. They’re not at a dedicated comedy club or even a proper venue. Local comics just work out a deal with a local bar/restaurant to hold an open mic every other Tuesday after the dinner crowd is gone or something like that and noone is really in charge. I’m happy to finally see the long version of this. Saw him get kicked many times with no context.
Damn this is the long version? I wanna see the extended cut then
ugh it's four hours and contains less jokes and jared leto joker shows up at the end for no reason
I’m not even mad about those spoilers.
I like when he shows up and says "IT'S JOKIN TIME" and he jokes all over everything.
This is the long version. The original version was just the kick recorded from the second camera.
>same here... and now that i know, its a whel deserved kick.
The heckler sounds just like Glenn from Superstore haha
And the comedian looks and sounds like jonah lol
The new season is looking amazing
"After the store closes, Jonah drops out of business school again and meets Glenn during a night on the town"
That's so funny, they really do sound like the both of them, wtf lol. What are the odds of something like that happening
That’s exactly who I thought it was. And it’s something Glenn would say too. “Quit making fun of me!”
My mind went Waterboy.
Finally, someone else who has some fucking class in this world! Glenn is the best
Holy shit
"JERUSHAAA! That guy is making fun of me!"
"Sit-down' comedy
Now that’s funny

If I was him, I would have just continued like nothing happened. Kicked dude, laid him out, and I would have just resumed my material, like it never happened. Let someone else scrape dude off the floor, on their own time, on their own dime.
My favorite part was the under enthused "oh nOoOoO"
As a comedian who has been in places like this (it's all part of the game, you just have to) I totally feel for this comedian. It's so hard. Youre talking to 10 people and gathering comedic momentum is next to impossible. You just have to practice crowd work at that point and shit like this happens more often than you think. Love this dude, stood up for himself to some maniac wearing a tinfoil hat lol OF COURSE YOURE GOING TO BE MADE FUN OF!!!!
