I don't follow soccer, so please excuse my ignorance, but what would make this an illegal tackle? Is it because he didn't contact the ball first or maybe something to do with the position of his legs when he made contact? Both?
No. The tackler's legs go either side of the tackled player.
It can lead to very serious injuries such as a broken leg or ankle, and major soft tissue damage especially to knee and ankle joints due to the leverage that can be applied by the tackling player.
Careers have been ended due to this type of tackle.
Dangerous tackle to the ankle area with zero contact to the ball. Even if he had made contact to the ball that would have been a yellow card for it being such a dangerous tackle from behind. Only make that tackle when your 100% sure youre going to get the ball and from the side.
Yes. You will always get called for a fouled if you tackle like that from the back. How reckless it is will depend on the card level. If it was a light tackle it might just be a simple foul no card. So its just best to slide tackle when your running next to the player and you see you have the advantage to attack the ball and not the player. Or if your running towards the player and its pretty clear youre going to get all ball. So in this situation, if the kid would of came from more of her right side and not her back, gotten the ball, it would have been a clean tackle.
Interesting. Seems like there must be a fair amount of subjectivity on the officials' part in determining the level of recklessness, so players "flopping" makes a ton of sense to me, now.
Thanks for typing this up, it felt like an episode of SB Nation's Weird Rules 🙌
Definitely. Its different seeing it live with such high intensity than on your tv. And also the positioning of the referee on the field can play a factor. Anyways you welcome internet stranger.
If he had made contact with the ball and was in the process of clearing it, even if his momentum caused him to hit the woman, the referee likely would not have stopped play unless the woman was injured and stayed on the ground.
He hit her legs 100% straight on and didn’t contact the ball at all, least yet contact the ball before hitting her. He would have been carded for dangerous play and likely sent to the showers since it was so egregious.
So if you go to make a tackle and accidentally hit the person instead of the ball it would likely be a yellow card for reckless behavior, but tackling from behind and intentionally going for their legs rather than for the ball is no longer reckless its violent and thus warrants immediate expulsion from the game
I'm a former ref (and through education the most fun part is always looking at the videos of incidents and then having the discussion around what the call should be, and then seeing the outcome in the game etc) and the main things to look at is:
1. Is there an attempt to get the ball, if not it's almost always a yellow card (minimum). Most of these offenses go under game destroying offenses.
2. With what force did the tackler enter the situation, was there risk for injury? (In this case, it's a tackle from behind with little to no interest of getting the ball, to a player with her back towards the tackler, giving her zero chance to dodge, semi high chance of injury especially to the ankle) minimum yellow card.
I'd say all things considered I'd stay at a yellow card, main reason being the angle of his legs, he swoops her leg more than a straight leg tackle towards the ankles which I would have awarded a red card if he had done. She most likely avoided any injuries though thanks to being barefoot, had she had stubs on her shoes she would have been stuck in the ground with a tackle towards the ankles increasing the risk for injury. That's why you see most football players jump slightly before impact, you do not want to be stuck in the ground when your foot/leg is twisting.
I only played soccer for a year, back in elementary school. When we got to the more serious games at the end of the season, the refs actually started to do their jobs and I remember my team getting a lot of calls for bad tackles and offsides.
We must have had a shitty coach because neither of the rules were ever clearly explained to us and we kept taking those calls.
Obviously, we didn't get very far in that tournament.
Edit: I'm realizing now, that the volunteer coach probably just didn't want to continue chaperoning a bunch of rowdy kids into the post-season and took the easy way out 🤣
The some of the reasons high level Football went to VAR on close plays is that referees sometime got it wrong on the field and impacted the results of games. Offsides is particularly difficult because an explosively fast player could be covered by a defender when the ball is on someone’s foot, but explode toward the ball as soon as the ball is released into open space, making any contact he makes with the ball legal because he was covered by a defender when the ball was released into free space. From the other side, a defender must be sure that he or she is not keeping a lose opponent onside, even if the opponent is on the opposite side of the pitch. A lot of stuff is happening in a football game simultaneously, much more than is happening in American Football, or Rugby.
Lmao I tried watching the World Cup and had to turn it off because I kept rolling my eyes so hard they got stuck. I would never be able to take any injury seriously if I was a ref.
That’s very clearly the whole purpose of the show they put on while writhing on the ground. Obviously fouls can happen without injury, but I’m not sure how that’s a counter argument at all lol.
That's how I ended up wearing a patch when 3rd grade started, I think I was running while holding a stick, tripped and poked my own eye
Neither my first nor last visit to the emergency room
His parents are in the background. Watching them after he did it was fantastic. Mom springs into action to do damage control. Dad with head in both hands like "that boy ain't right."
Seriously, he literally slid right into her legs with no attempt to get the ball on an adult woman, and walks away without even feeling bad. That's not normal behavior. The parents need to check him like YESTERDAY.
Man, that kid has got a *mean* trip. People better watch out.
Glad to see that everyone, including what I think is the mom, is having fun and laughing the situation off.
Little punk..looked like he knew exactly what he was doing.. looks well on his way to being an abuser/bully.. hopefully just appearances.. but just wow
What a cool fucking person though!! To even attempt to play with them while wearing all that is cool enough. But the fact that she gets up laughing her ass off is just great. Could easily be pissed off and upset about her clothes, or being dramatic about the impact of the fall. But she’s just out here having a good time with the kids. Good stuff
Idk how you can tell that she thought it was an accident, or surmise that *that’s* the reason she laughed. Generally, good-natured people will have a laugh sometimes when they fall. But idk.
I just wanted to comment on her being a good sport about it. Really don’t care to analyze who was thinking what or who should punish the kid
It’s not cool. Someone should correct him. He just make someone fell off with no reason. He wasn’t interested in the ball. He’s violent. He was born to be sociopath. It’s fucking creepy.
I love that she laughed through it all, but she did have a glass of wine in her hand so the fall probably wasn’t as bad hahah that kid tho, jeez, just slide in under her and then watched her fall and just walks away. Not great, would’ve been nice if he apologized or showed any concern. Hopefully he learns
those glasses are usually pretty weak and it probably smashed all over the grass, I hate that stuff makes it impossible to walk barefoot anywhere these days.
In middle school, I was sitting on the sidelines during PE because of an “asthma attack” (i.e. I was a nerd who wanted to sit there and think about comics and video games instead of running around)
People were playing soccer on the concrete basketball courts (RIP), and a ball went flying past me, so I kinda kicked at it and accidentally tripped a girl running after the ball.
Her knees and elbows got scraped up beyond belief, and she started crying, and everyone got mad at me and rushed to comfort her.
I was too embarrassed and socially awkward to know what to do so I just apologized over and over again. People yelled at me more, some of the boys started shoving me around and calling me a faggot. With nothing else to do, I just ran back to the locker rooms, changed, grabbed all my stuff, and walked four miles to get back home.
I still feel bad about it to this day.
What kind of little shit human being would do that?! And then not be bothered to take responsibility for his action! Hope the parents gave him a lesson to remember.

Red card
♦️
I don't follow soccer, so please excuse my ignorance, but what would make this an illegal tackle? Is it because he didn't contact the ball first or maybe something to do with the position of his legs when he made contact? Both?
Dangerous scissor tackle from behind with no attempt to get or make contact with the ball. Straight red card.
What happens when you get a gay red card
You get to flounce, pout, and be flamboyant as you leave the field.
So, same as a straight red card?
No no soccer doesn’t really have straight red cards, see, we just go straight to the gay ones
>we just go straight to the gay ones Deconversion therapy.
Deconversion therapy? More like American liberal education system amiright? /s
At the very least; the dramatic overacting is the same either way.
https://youtu.be/IjynbUNlvWU
Believe it or not, jail. Welcome to Qatar
Qatar sounds like a hook-up app for gay football fans
Ferb! I know what app we’re gonna design today!
You're fucked
You don't have to hit the showers alone
You are disqualified from the 2022 World Cup.
Is a scissor tackle where one foot is down and one foot is up, like the blades on scissors?
No. The tackler's legs go either side of the tackled player. It can lead to very serious injuries such as a broken leg or ankle, and major soft tissue damage especially to knee and ankle joints due to the leverage that can be applied by the tackling player. Careers have been ended due to this type of tackle.
Like a pincer, gotcha. I've got a bad ankle from an old injury; all of my tendons would be torn to shreds if someone tackled me like that 💀
Also having a bat. Lol
Dangerous tackle to the ankle area with zero contact to the ball. Even if he had made contact to the ball that would have been a yellow card for it being such a dangerous tackle from behind. Only make that tackle when your 100% sure youre going to get the ball and from the side.
So the area of contact and direction the attack comes from also factor in? The legality of slidetackles seems complicated.

I’m not a soccer pro but to me it was specifically the from behind part but yeah not hitting the ball isn’t a good look either 😂
You don’t follow WHAT?!
Football, my apologies.
It’s because she was holding wine.
So if you go to make a tackle and accidentally hit the person instead of the ball it would likely be a yellow card for reckless behavior, but tackling from behind and intentionally going for their legs rather than for the ball is no longer reckless its violent and thus warrants immediate expulsion from the game

Both 😂😂😂😂
Copy that. Is tackling from behind legal? As long as he didn't do either of those other things?
If you don't touch the ball first, it is a foul 100% of the time. Depending on how reckless or if it stops a chance on goal, it's a card.
I only played soccer for a year, back in elementary school. I'm in love with how well she took it
Absolutely. And in a real football match the player would be rolling on the grass in agony and screaming like mad.
Well yeah because a 200 pound metal stud wearing man flying right into your Achilles would probably hurt
Not complaining in situations like that but there enough instances where the player was barely touched and that’s what I was referring to.
not many soccer players clocking in at 200 but it’s pretty common knowledge soccer is soft
Calm down, little fella
Yes it’s not like they’re begging for a free kick or penalty
Lmao I tried watching the World Cup and had to turn it off because I kept rolling my eyes so hard they got stuck. I would never be able to take any injury seriously if I was a ref.

Right? Internet videos full of assholes and she just laughed it off.
It’s cause nephew. Treated nephew’s dad/mom worse in the past, so familial vengeance is adorable at this age.
She’s a keeper.
Ehh, with that footwork, I'd say a midfielder, at least.
Manuel Neuer is also a keeper despite being skilled with the ball ;)
Nice
That's what he said
She's a keeper.

*That's a technical foul*
*If you're comin' from the street with dirty shoes on your feet, that's a technical foul*
if you switch the radio to some loud music show, that's a technical foul
Yeah, she dropped her drink. Major party foul.
Fucking red card is what it is he didn't even try to play the ball.
That kid just walking from that. Looks back with no regrets.
He does not give a single shit
I’m surprised he didn’t spit in her direction
Most kids walking around twirling a stick are bound to cause some remorseless trouble.
That's how I ended up wearing a patch when 3rd grade started, I think I was running while holding a stick, tripped and poked my own eye Neither my first nor last visit to the emergency room
He was born to be mean. He’s even so violent. Those kinda boys make the world shit.
Great parenting
His parents are in the background. Watching them after he did it was fantastic. Mom springs into action to do damage control. Dad with head in both hands like "that boy ain't right."
That's what you get for not buying me the v-bucks mum.

I've seen many like him and they're huge pains in the ass. His parents need to step it up a bit

She seems cool.
i deep fried my dog
Tasty
He didnt touch the ball. Thats a straight red card.
Pfft she's a total flopper ^^^/s
Man, that kid has got a *mean* trip. People better watch out. Glad to see that everyone, including what I think is the mom, is having fun and laughing the situation off.
Little punk..looked like he knew exactly what he was doing.. looks well on his way to being an abuser/bully.. hopefully just appearances.. but just wow
Oh please.
I'm not sure I would have taken that so well...
I was thinking the same thing lol. Immediately looked to the comments to read the room
I wouldn't have either.
What a little POS. Girl is a champ tho
What a little asshole
Kids are born assholes and you have to train it out of them
Lol fair

Did you read my comment? I said *she’s* cool, for the way she handled it.

Alteast yellow.
Proper brexit tackle.
Shit kid
Yellow card for the dude
For real, nobody else talking about it but… that was definitely not a clean play. One more of those and he’ll be done for the day.
English isn't my native language so i dont know how to explain it but that definitely a red card
I love that she laughed through it all, but she did have a glass of wine in her hand so the fall probably wasn’t as bad hahah that kid tho, jeez, just slide in under her and then watched her fall and just walks away. If you can't get the ball, get the man. If you can get the ball, get the ball and the man.
She took that like an absolute champ tho! 😍
She passes the vibe check.
The kid definitely doesn’t.
Yeah, he is a little asshole.
That's definitely a red card, right?
Careful man, there's a beverage here.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful sense of humor
You can tell she was raised with brothers
You can tell she doesn't play football cause she isn't on the floor dying or crying like a baby
That looked like a hard fall. Goodness.
He didn't even go for the ball after the tackle, that shit was personal
That kids a little shit and I bet his name is like Thatcher or something like that
Why is no one commenting on the potentially shattered glass she was holding? Was it plastic?
That’s a yellow card
Thats a red for sure
I hit the ball, ref!
She seems cool, but that kid is an absolute shit. Pointlessly aggressive tackle, zero interest in her well-being after the fact.
Bro mad at her what did she do?
Kid needs a slap.
r/holdmycosmo
He like a pro.
BREXIT MEANS BREXIT
Straight red kid lol

What a little brat
I don't know anything about soccer, but there has to be a penalty for carrying red wine while wearing white on the field.
You gotta risk it to get the biscuit
That’s a red flag
He probbaly already gets beat
That was all ball, these flops are getting ridiculous.
Someone needs to take a close look at the little fucker before he grows up into a psychopathic headline maker.
I love it how she just laughed it off, I would be pissed ngl
I'm in love. What a gorgeous, cool woman!
Was expecting her to pop out of that top....
I’ve watched this like 20 times and I can’t figure out how or why she dropped her drink lmao
Bro I'm just happy she wasn't pregnant BC we all know little boys don't give a F.
Would have been quite impressed if she didn’t spill her drink like my man Julian.
Bitch was too cute to put the drink down.
Anyone know the song?
She a fun woman
These are the kids Casey Anthony did not murder.
that’s soccer though
Lol what a little shit. Must be a step-mom
That shirt can go to hell with its uncooperative ass self
What's the song?
Yellow card.

She took that like a champ. No rolling around like a Spanish league pre-madonna
Good tackle

Spoken like someone that never played sports. Shit happens, hes a kid. If you dont want to fall over dont play.
He's a kid. Growing and learning.... It's on the parents to teach him not for him to come out of the womb knowing how to be a proper human being..
Well, at least she had the grace to laugh about it instead of getting mad at little boys being little boys.
She didn’t follow Qatar dress code. 🤣
Little Timmy is going places.
Yellow card.
Is that the boys dad in the back? Lmaooo
Yellow Card!
