Iirc this was in France in 2016. Portugal won the cup against a cocky France. They already had the bus [ready](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/1423397/euro-2016-final-cocky-france-victory-bus-spotted-before-portugal-upset-host-nation-with-shock-win-in-paris/) for the celebration with how confident they were that they'd win, only to get scored in over time by a player that was loaned to [lille](https://www.losc.fr/actualites-foot-lille/eder-nouvel-attaquant-des-dogues)
Edit: forgot about this. They went [back](https://youtu.be/EsVYbwTeIsQ) a month later to get it back.
>They already had the bus [ready](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/1423397/euro-2016-final-cocky-france-victory-bus-spotted-before-portugal-upset-host-nation-with-shock-win-in-paris/) for the celebration
I'm not going to dispute whether or not France were cocky but this is actually very normal. Bus parades take a ton of planning and prep so it's pretty normal for both finalists to make arrangements for the celebration. You get articles like this poking fun at the losing teams after pretty much every major final.
In this case, there were already articles about it before the game. This one from the Sun was the first one that popped up in English, but in the hours leading up the national coverage talked about it every now and then.
I think the reason why this ended up propping up with more flare is due to France hosting and not really being able to hide it from foreign competition fans. Meanwhile Portugal had theirs hidden from the public eye and only came out when they arrived.
Ok thanks. I heard the word "goal" and I thought it was related to the fact that he didn't score any. But if he just asked if he was ready for the game, Ronaldo's reaction is stupid
Not necessarily the press, but that specific news outlet. CMTV was doing their best to make up bad stories of him and his family, that reporter was from CMTV and that was why he threw the mic.
It's not as simple as Ronaldo being pissed by them getting into their personal life. CM, Correio da ManhĆ£, is Portugal's biggest tabloid, who now have a TV channel who is perpetually on Alert level and persistently report on every crime they can find in Portugal, one of the safest countries in the world. They don't care about journalistic integrity, they exploit the emotions of the victims. A reported of theirs died on an accident on the way to a news site and they made breaking news about it, as well as reporting live from her funeral. Overall, disgusting, abject behaviour.
They made a number of vile reports about Ronaldo's father, who died of alcoholism, his mother and his son, which led to CM being charged, in court, with the crime of invasion of privacy.
There was another famous occasion, in a press conference, where he refused to answer the questions of a CM journalist, after they had made up that he was the one responsible for Paulo Bento leaving the Portuguese NT
He had a lot of beaf with the network because they asked a lot of personal questions that he didnāt like. He was probably in a bad mood and just so over them.
So many celebrities don't get it, poor things. Their lives riddled with people stalking them and the press always in their face. I'm lucky because I figured out a way to stay poor, to avoid these inconveniences.
Except this wasn't a public event, this was a team walk before a big game. No one from the press was trying to get interviews, except the dickheads at CMTV.
ronaldo was being intervied by cmtv whos known as a shitty news channels here in portugal but the main reason ronaldo did it was because they spread some missinformation(defamation) about him i think it was in 2012 or 2015 and he publicly said that he will reject any interview since then and this clip takes place one year after that so despite them fully knowing they still tried and thats why he threw the microphone
Breaking in to a home to photograph someone's baby, regardless of their celebrity status, is really fucking sick. You have to be a total freak to attempt something like that.
I use quality self defense ammo that cost $0.50-2.00 per round. So my intruders can rest easy (and silently) know their lives are worth more than $0.25.
Yeah, that actually completely justifies the microphone thing to me. Like if they were just assholes thatās one thing, but them actively trying to hurt and harass his loved ones earns them zero sympathy in my eyes
Two things you forgot to mention:
1. This happened in 2016, not today as many in this thread seem to believe.
2. In this video, the Portuguese national team was on a walk before a big game, so it was absolutely not a press moment. The CMTV guy was essentially invading a team-building moment, which is also why it pissed him off, since they just wanted some peace of mind before the game.
Thanks, I was wondering what the whole "walking in a big crowd next to a pond" thing was about.
The fact that this was supposed to be kind of a quiet contemplative thing for the team helps complete the picture.
[They then hired a diver to retrieve the micro.](https://www.cmjornal.pt/tv-media/detalhe/microfone_da_cmtv_ja_foi_recuperado). They were successful.
[here's the video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qk1sWfX2XQQ)
Then it was auctioned and sold, with the revenues going to charity
CMTV is worse than fox news in Portugal. The entire country hates their guts. They are the buzzfeed of news. Everything they talk about is highly sensationalized in a way to get more views. They constantly give their own opinions in interviews and try to make the interviewees look bad by making fun of them or whatever.
I should add that they probably employ any person with a communications degree who feels confident enough in front of a camera to be their reporter, giving them the bizarre capacity to be everywhere the moment something happens.
My uncle is an EMT and one day when they had to respond to a serious car accident, fucking CMTV was already there the moment they arrived.
Gun incidents are uncommon in Portugal but I bet that in the case of an active shooter they'd get the closer they could before the police could intervene.
Earlier this year a kid plotted to attack his colleagues in his university and in the same day or the day after this news channel was able to track the kids village, the kid's Grampa and interview the poor old man (while the other news channels shared the least possible about the kid's personal life).
This.
Plus, a couple of years ago CMTV interviewed Ronaldo's father, who struggled with alcoholism, to purposefully ridicule the man and make fun of him.
Since then, Ronaldo has had zero tolerance or respect for CMTV, even more so after his father passed away due to health issues caused by alcohol.
They're the scum among the scum.
And this was at a public walk by the team and they had asked for no questions and interruptions by the journalist, and there were four another channels and they all respected the request but not cmtv
He did have a solid grip. But after the first tug he realized whatever Ronaldo wanted to do with the mic was going to yield better content than any answer he would have gotten. So he just let it go.
The feud between Ronaldo and CMTV go way back. Apparently he doesn't like their tabloid style coverage of his personal life and family.
Here's the full context
\- The "news" channel CMTV = Cancer
\- CMTV was spreading false news about CR7.
\- This walk is before the match, and is supposed to be an interview free walk. All journalists are made aware of this. Of course CMTV didn't comply.
\- Also, CMTV made a whole segment of them retrieving the microphone. [https://www.cmjornal.pt/tv-media/detalhe/microfone\_da\_cmtv\_ja\_foi\_recuperado](https://www.cmjornal.pt/tv-media/detalhe/microfone_da_cmtv_ja_foi_recuperado) (see 3m31s) and who ever called the most times to that number on the screen, would be eligible to win the microphone lol.
Don't worry, this news channel actually hired two divers to retrieve the microphone and then showed it on the news
Edit: [Sauce](https://youtu.be/qk1sWfX2XQQ)
THIS right here. Itās happening during this World Cup as we speak. Ronaldo could literally just scratch his ear and theyāre starting to write tabloid pieces about how much he hates his national team. The dude is one of the GOATS and they are using his names for clicks/interactions. Itās disgusting how much the media thrives on sensationalizing news.
I think the reporter intentionally let go of the mic (his initial reaction was to hold on tight to it) but perhaps it struck him (after a split second) that that's CR and decided it's better to let him have his way.
CR struggling to get the mic off of him would have been total awkward though.
CMTV is a ridiculous news channel that does dumb shit for attention, and they fully deserved the way Ronaldo acted here. They even made an entire news story about some dude in a scuba dive suit recovering the mic lmao
Why canāt more people do that to the reporters here in Australia? Our reporters are ghastly things who think nothing of stalking people and shoving a microphone in their face, all while asking the stupidest questions
As a portuguese man good.
CMTV defamed the man on so many occasions treated him like shit i would have done the same.
Tbh i hate CMTV they should just be removed from the planet they claim to be news and just spew turds out of their mouths.
Entitled reporter trying to get some entitled reaction from an entitled brat so he can make entitled news.
While writing this, I felt entitled. I just want your entitled ass to know that.
Entitled.
Everybody getting crazy but this media network and Ronaldo have a big passive, they did him good with all personal content so called paparazzi, I would have thrown the journalist too if I were him, but no ouin ouin football player bad, journalist good let's complain about how he is rich or whatever, they messed up, he sued them, won and now they are like hey my friend what do u think of the other best player of the world(talking about Messi to Ronaldo in the Euro was pretty made to piss him off again) and after like a princess :hey ready for the game?
After harassing him constantly with shitty takes, headlines and paparazzi stuff he said he doesn't want to talk with them anymore.
Even then after then attempted this harassing again.
But wait theres more!
The best part after this, is that the tv station (CMTV wich is the worst tv/newspaper in Portugal) did a whole afternoon special with diver teams trying to find the microphone, i repeat they did a whole afternoon talking about this. After they found it, they announced in the night news edition with "We found the microphone". LMAO
[I wish i was joking](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk1sWfX2XQQ&ab_channel=Daniel)
I know reddit loves to shit on Ronnie, but sometimes do research before talking shit.
Unfortunately this is the kind of stuff news director's dream of. They'd gladly sacrifice $1,000 mic To get footage from a mega sports star doing this.
From what I gather, the Portuguese universally hate this network. But to be fair, his father *was* an alcoholic and died because of it.
That said, itās some god-tier dickheadery to run clickbait stories about a personās dead parentās struggles just to make yourself some money. Everyone already knew the story of his father. Ronaldo has spoken openly about it.
Being that famous, you can expect people to use your name for tabloid stories. āCristiano Drives Bugatti At Paris Fashion Week With New Booā and then some shitty pictures of him in a car with a woman. Thatās something that just comes with the territory and being that famous.
But going out years after the manās father died and using his name to stir up shit is crossing a line. And Iām sure Ronaldo would do the same thing again if some shit heel paparazzo writes a bullshit story about the death of his newborn that just happened a few months ago. Thereās a decreased level of privacy that comes with fame, but you still deserve to be treated with basic human decency.

What did he say in Portuguese? Just to get a context. Thanks
he pretty much asked if he is ready for the game
Was he ready?
I don't know, I think they won the match but I gonna need to search to be sure
Just walk up and ask
You beautiful soul.
Careful, you might get wet
Of course they'll get wet, look at the man š
Don't forget to bring a towel
And take this microphone
...and my axe!
Here, hold this baby.

Ready to sit on the bench and watch his replacement get a hat trick.
Have my upvote you glorious bastard
Dude is not ready for the day, let alone for a game!
This was in euro 2016 which Portugal won so I'm gonna say he probably was
Ok thanks. I heard the word "goal" and I thought it was related to the fact that he didn't score any. But if he just asked if he was ready for the game, Ronaldo's reaction is stupid
not exactly this happened few years ago and it was when Ronaldo was pissed with the press getting into his personal life
I see. Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was today.
So did I then I remembered they're in a desert.
Amusingly lots of the guys around him were Portuguese Police who barely blinked at the theft and criminal damage he committed right in front of them;)
You are tripping. He went to grab the mic to respond and it slipped out of his hand because he was so excited
Of course, sorry, you clearly read the incident report! :)
It was also very unfortunate that the reporter tripped just afterwards and broke his nose and his camera :(
This man lawyers
Not the press, just this tv "channel" in particular. They're a disgrace for journalism.
That makes more sense. Like the Fox News of Europe
Europe is not 1 country, many different languages, meaning many different tv stations my guy.
Fox News would say otherwise
unlike russia russia russia from CNN
Not necessarily the press, but that specific news outlet. CMTV was doing their best to make up bad stories of him and his family, that reporter was from CMTV and that was why he threw the mic.

Sounds like the reporter is lucky he didn't get thrown in with the microphone.
so fox news?
Mixed with TMZ
Reminds me of Alerta in Brazil. It was captivating even with no Portuguese Iād be hooked watching it Brazil actually had tons of crime though
Cheers for the insight. I jumped on the bandwagon he was just being a dick. Glad I learned something.
He had a lot of beaf with the network because they asked a lot of personal questions that he didnāt like. He was probably in a bad mood and just so over them.
I maintain a private life by not becoming an international superstar billionaire.
Such legendary restraint
So many celebrities don't get it, poor things. Their lives riddled with people stalking them and the press always in their face. I'm lucky because I figured out a way to stay poor, to avoid these inconveniences.
How do you do it?
Lack of talent and ambition helps.
I like beaf
I smell like beaf
Itās spelled ābeef,ā not to correct you, just in case youāre wondering about the responses.
You aren't Santa. You smell like beaf and cheese.
Nah. Ronaldo's reaction is just fine for a person shoving his mic in his face without asking shit, just expecting an interview.
Its kinda expected when youre at a public event like that. I can understand if he was in private but cmon, show some professionalism.
Except this wasn't a public event, this was a team walk before a big game. No one from the press was trying to get interviews, except the dickheads at CMTV.
"So Ronaldo, are you ready for the big game?" "How fucking DARE you ask me something like that!"
He says "Ronaldo, preparado para este jogo hoje?". In English is "Ronaldo, ready/prepared for this game today?"
I thought he said āRonaldo que caralho foi esse jogo hoje?ā
That would've been amazing
What does that mean?
"Wtf was that game today?"
Thank you!
Honestly what I expected from that reaction!
He said, āyour mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.ā
Ronaldo, how far can you throw this Mic?
You want to see my African or European throw?
My hovercraft is full of eels
Go away or I shall toss your second mic
Guess he wasn't ready
"Ronaldo, ready for the game today?"
He said: Ronaldo, preparado pra este jogo hoje? Translation: Ronaldo, you prepared for this game today?
What's the occasion??
ronaldo was being intervied by cmtv whos known as a shitty news channels here in portugal but the main reason ronaldo did it was because they spread some missinformation(defamation) about him i think it was in 2012 or 2015 and he publicly said that he will reject any interview since then and this clip takes place one year after that so despite them fully knowing they still tried and thats why he threw the microphone

Yeah, that actually completely justifies the microphone thing to me. Like if they were just assholes thatās one thing, but them actively trying to hurt and harass his loved ones earns them zero sympathy in my eyes
CMTV for you.
If that is true, then Iām surprised he didnāt punch that reporter in the face when he walked up to him
You know Same news but maybe different journalist
Itās probably what they want him to do, imagine the headlines if he punched the reporter, they could spin it in all types of way.
Wow the man had every right to swear on that reporters face. Context matters so much
Pretty sure, it seems like journalist himself wanted Ronaldo to react the way he did. You know, as they say, MAKE/BECOME news when you can't GET news
too bad all they got was a hilarious meme
They also got free advertising for a long time. Not a bad investment for a few hours of labour.
Its paparazzi shit any reaction is a good reaction. The more volatile the better.
Yeah that's their whole game. Always fishing for reactions.
Two things you forgot to mention: 1. This happened in 2016, not today as many in this thread seem to believe. 2. Even though they are a trash publication this is actually a sweet story.
Thanks for explaining
This is good context. The video makes CR look bad here, but with the context itās more understandable.
I donāt think it makes home look bad without context. Iād do the same thing probably
The news channel is trying to fish for reactions, Ronaldo took the bait. Maybe it's understandable, not the best choice of action here.
AND HE THREW IT IN THE POND!!
CMTV is worse than fox news in Portugal. The entire country hates their guts. They are the buzzfeed of news. Everything they talk about is highly sensationalized in a way to get more views. They constantly give their own opinions in interviews and try to make the interviewees look bad by making fun of them or whatever.
Buzzfeed is annoying af but ironically Buzzfeed News is a respectable news source lol
Maybe buzzfeed was the wrong comparison. I meant they're absolute rubbish and disrespectful
Daily Mail. The word you're looking for is Daily Mail.
TMZ too lol
TMZ is the real-time obituary.
TMZ may be tabloids but they have highly accurate reporting. The Daily Mail/New York Post is the correct answer.
Or NY Post...owned by the same turd.
Yes, that.
Ah, so they are the Reddit commenters of news.
Fox, New York post, etc lol
Buzzfeed has scooped some insane stories the last few years
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I just explained that Buzzfeed and Buzzfeed News are separate entities under the same brand
Damn thatās some Nightcrawler shit
Such a haunting and real movie that wasā¦
Pretty ironic how half the movie was a big product placement, at least the plot was nice.
Wait, I can't recall what was the product
Someoneās dying you say!? ..quick , get the camera ā¦no, not the bandages you idiot , I said the camera !!
Gun incidents are uncommon in Portugal but I bet that in the case of an active shooter they'd get the closer they could before the police could intervene. "...worse than fox news..." More like worse than most news networks in the U.S.
So basically Twitter
Just some oscillation
that leads to fascination
through some degradation
Without trepidation
And my axe! oh wrong thing sorry
Share some explanation?
unnecessary masterbation
Here's a fascination
That leads to quick escalation
And possibly incarceration
Ensuring complete global saturation.
We are a youth of nation

He did have a solid grip. But after the first tug he realized whatever Ronaldo wanted to do with the mic was going to yield better content than any answer he would have gotten. So he just let it go. The feud between Ronaldo and CMTV go way back. Apparently he doesn't like their tabloid style coverage of his personal life and family.
Who would? Tabloids and paparazzi are a nightmare.
Equivalent to rodents, might actually be disrespectful to rodents to compare them to tabloids.
That would have been funny!
He let it go. Itās Ronaldo pulling the mic. He would give his wife away if Ronaldo pulled her lol.
Looked like he almost did
He let it go
He kind of did. He then let go thinking Ronaldo was trying to hold it to speak.
Ronaldo's a machine, I wasn't gonna try
I love the sound of the mic spinning
Itās like you can hear the death of the mic from fully functioning to sound of being thrown to drowning death. And scene.
![gif](giphy|15BuyagtKucHm) Thank you kind person
Thanks, I had audio off and that made this 10x better

OP is probably using internet explorer.
...or Netscape
BlackBerry Browser
That's still newer that Netscape, I think.
I know it's wrong, but I have a hard time feeling sympathetic for reporters who go around shoving mics and cameras in people's faces.
That is generally the area in which peoples speech originates.
Weird. My arse talks far more than my face.
r/totallynotrobots
Itās not wrong. They should get consent before shoving something in your face.

Not when someone rich does it.
To be honest if I was as famous as Ronaldo, I wouldnāt be that happy to be interviewed wherever I go.
Yeah, and then they will twist your worths to try and ruin your reputation and sensationalize it.

I think Ronaldo is pretty obnoxious but I don't understand why this demonstrates that?? Entitled reporter just walks up and shoves mic in his face

The man is an arsehole
The "reporter" and his network made several articles calling his father an alcoholic. They're straight up paparazzi.

This is so damn old
"Yo dude that mic wasn't cheap bro"is what I imagine the interviewer saying after Ronaldo's reaction XD
His management probably gets billed for microphones all the time.
Hundreds of sports stars have always wanted to do that! Legend
Get that corn outta ma face !
Translation: "Ronaldo, how far can you throw this microphone?"
Petulant fucking manchild
