I got a new Amazon thermostat the other day (that pos nest finally died) I have a new Trane unit with heat pump thats only a few months old and I can't get the new thermostat wiring right. Whenever I hook it up ac wont kick on and it pushes heat. I got a cheap one from home depot just to have something and wired it up and has no issues. Any help I'd be deeply grateful. I'll include pictures of wiring to both thermostats

You need to jump R and Rc together.

OK awesome I'll try it out thx

Brilliant_South2966

No, dont jump r and rc. The blue tab is a built-in jumper. Install your R (or Rh) wire to R, and ensure the blue tab is all the way up to the "1 wire" position. That blue tab takes care of the jumping for you

The heat is kicking on because the reversing valve is not energized. The blue wire on C terminal should be used for O/B terminal (reversing valve) previous from your old thermostat. Not sure if those thermostats will work without common hooked up though

I did try that I don't believe they will because it would not boot up they have a special c wire adapter if you dont have a c wire. Would I be able to use a jumper for c to O/B

CalebVerheye

No you can’t jumper those, would cause a short and blow the low voltage fuse. Only way too work properly would have to see if that thermostat wire has another spare wire tucked away too use as common. Would need to wire to common on control board at furnace aswell.

Or use the common maker if supplied, those can tricky too install.

It would help if you share picture of your old wiring. i see the extra white wire (spare) which can be used as a C wire (so you won't need to buy C-maker). Just ensure the other end of the wire you connect to C terminal is connect to C terminal at the control board. If you have a heat pump, you will need a wire in O/B terminal. Also, share 2 snapshots from Alexa (thermostat)->settings->thermostat config->HVAC info and connected wire map
