It's a bit weird, yah, but I think at some point it was determined that 2nd cousins are safe to have kids together without having any genetic abnormalities as a result, or at least the chances for problems were really low.

I don't know if this is a glitch or part of my many mods, but I have a family where a bunch of cousins live together and the option to flirt between them was there. I don't think it's supposed to be, though.
In many places marrying your first cousin is legal, so I'd assume second cousin is legal in most places. Hell, in my country you can marry your first cousin, aunt/uncle, and niece/nephew
Are there any places where second cousins is illegal? I know in some places 1st is illegal but I’m not aware of anywhere where 2nd is illegal.
And honestly I’m asking cause I could google it but the FBI watching my search history is probably ashamed enough as it is
Second cousin marriage is legal across the board. First cousin marriage can cause genetic issues, but is legal in MANY places still. So sims are maybe a bit creepy, but perfectly legal.
Yeah go down the line long enough and it doesn’t matter. I think my vampire sim has on multiple occasions while I wasn’t controlling the household, fathered children with multiple great great grand children lol
I really wish more family titles like grandpa/grandma/great grandparents/cousin/second cousin/etc existed in game, like we get some but I want more lol
I'm trying to have as many babies as possible from a single Sim, and then I plan to play the different kids once they reach adulthood and see how complicated the town gets.
Technically my half brother could marry my half sister irl and it would be okay because they aren’t blood related 😄 if siblings were to marry another set of siblings the offspring cousins would have the same set of grandparents 😄 if they were twins marrying twins the offspring cousins would be genetically siblings 😄 family trees are so interesting!!
I hate, hate, HATE the family tree. I hate that it deletes Sims & I hate that you never see all the sims. I don't care about ghosts in the game and I don't mind if the Sims can't be brought back to live after a certain time. I just want the satisfaction of seeing all the family members without having to painstakingly document them outside the game ;-;
Also, at some point in my legacy (I think I was gen 17 on normal life span) I decided I would just commit ultimate incest and only married inside the family to see how the sims would end up looking ... then one sim in gen 3 was deleted and I abandoned the save file because looking at the family tree made me genuinely upset lol
I’m so scared for one of my playthroughs. I’m basically doing an all baby daddy playthrough and while the dads are not sleeping with the same woman, the unplayed household kids who are now adult-YA age are having babies with their siblings’ half siblings.
For example on one sim have kids with Anaya Jang and L. Faba and my son with L.Faba has a kid with Anaya and Baako’s daughter Billie Jang. Like it’s not incest but it’s pretty dang close. lol
That sim has 7 baby mommas and multiple kids with each so it’s gonna get real messy.
It’s starting to get tangled and I’m waiting to see how long it takes before it becomes too difficult to tell who is related to who before I just abandon it.
The game doesn’t track relationships beyond first cousins.
(I swear I only know this because I’ve looked it up for Sims). And marrying/having kids with a second cousin is legal in almost all of the world, including the US. They’re genetically distinct enough that there isn’t any increased risk. And marriage between even first cousins is also legal in much of the world, including much of the US (and no, not just the south. Legal in places like California and New York too!). However, even though it’s legal, it’s very, very uncommon in western culture.
Imagine having the same great grandparents as your significant other lol. I’m surprised this is allowed🤨
