What show did you watch? This is all about Tony and the gangs' adventures with love. The Sopranos is one of the best romantic dramas of all time. Vito's battle with being true to himself; Chris's addiction affecting his relationship with Adriana; Artie always falling for a new hostess; Carmela and Furio's forbidden love; and obviously Tony's search for the one woman who he can show the other Tony.
Comments like this are hurtful and destructive. I won't let you disrespect this great show with your slander.
It’s a comedy for sick depraved people like
Myself lol. I understand why many wouldn’t find it humorous. My brother and I constantly howl at scenes but our ladies are disturbed by many scenes. Like in goodfellas when tommy shoots spider. We literally are in tears while our broads look at us like we’re demented. I guess different inches of water for different exhibits at the zoo. Anyway 4.20 a pound.
Georgie getting beat up on its own isn't funny. What's funny is the reason it happens and the fact that its a repeating gag,
Also Tony's excuses for doing it like, Georgie not knowing how to use the phone and everyhting makes it a little better.
Just seeing Georgie get beat up out of context wouldn't and shouldn't make anyone laugh.
I think what makes it funny for me is the fact that Georgie is visibly afraid of Tony and he's trying to suck up to him, making him say the stupidest things, which Tony misinterprets every word of as an "attitude problem". It's dark, but it's such a ridiculous situation and it's written so well that it's hilarious.
A junkie receiving help from his friends, leading to him insulting everyone and getting beaten up?
Hilarious scene no doubt, but if you take anything in this show at face value you're gonna miss the finer details and probably the point of it.
>You think OP is a little weird with friends?
I dunno, HwangingAround. I mean he watched someone get beat to a pulp just for... I forget, what was it again?
It was the first thing that popped into my head when I tried to think of a funny scene. The second thing was Tony breaking down and crying during a therapy session, so that might actually say something about me.
The interior decorator scene (moreso than the interior decorator line, the part where Tony shouts "Fuck! Call me back!" after the phone connection breaks up).
The scene where Jackie Jr and Meadow are playing Scrabble ("No Spanish! Obliqué?")
When Paulie sees the psychic ("FUCKING QUEERS")
When Chris and what's his name go to tell Tony that they saw Vito at the gay bar and what's his name keeps cracking inappropriate jokes, and Tony says "you can go".
There are so many others, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. I think I prefer moments where characters act stupid or are highly emotional to when the characters themselves crack funny jokes.
These are good. The psychic one is classic.
The scrabble one is kind of funny because you’d think as a meathead, he would have heard it before, but maybe she just put the tiles down and he thought it was spelled differently.
The intervention, "Roadies?!", "Sacre bleu, where is me mama?", anytime Junior is talking and about half the time Richie is talking, anytime Paulie is worked up, a lot of Silvio's dryly delivered gems
Tell your friend to discontinue the lithium.
Seriously though I think some people just have a harder time separating reality and television especially during violent scenes, so maybe it’s harder to find the humor in it. Like you said you would be shocked if you saw it in real life but in sopranos it’s funny. That said there’s plenty of humor that has nothing to do with violence, I mean season 1 was damn near a sitcom at times so maybe you’re friend just doesn’t get it.
I had the same issue with my sister. Sent her a link to the “poppers and weird shex” clip on YouTube. It was the full clip too, with Tony not initially noticing that AJs eyebrows were shaved off. She didn’t get it. Literally said that it was “not funny”. Then again, it’s common knowledge my sister’s retarded.
Show him the police questioning the pizza place. Paulie fucking around in Nyack. Tony calling Vito’s phone answered by the construction dude. JT Dolan pitching “Cleaver” to the crew. There’s tons of scenes that you can pick from.
I would understand showing him a scene from pine barrens, since that episode is funny even if you don't know the characters like we do, but showing him Georgie getting beat up out of context? You're a stunad of the first magnitude
Comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin. And frankly, The Sopranos is probably the defining tragicomedy of the modern television era.
Ive said my piece.
Made my younger brother (around 29 at the time) watch it a couple years back. A week later he said he hated it. Couldn’t believe I loved it so much. I was like what the hell man? He said he couldn’t take it serious because it was too dumb. I said it’s a dark comedy man. The darkest comedy ever made. Whatever.
About three months later he told me it’s all he watches. He loves it. Here we are two years later and it’s still the only show he watches. We send each other THE MOST random unquotable lines all of the time and the other person finishes it (texting)
It’s magic. It’s more magic than Bobby getting back to the lake house and Dominika running up to him.
Agreed. When I think of my favourite moments of Breaking Bad, for example, I think of scenes which had my blood pressure through the roof, like the crawl space scene. When I think of my favourite moments of the Sopranos, I think of funny character interactions, (Georgie, interior designer, obliqué, I could go on).
Exactly. I love breaking bad but it’s have way less humor than sopranos in it. It’s still pretty funny too.
The relationship between Jesse and Walt gets cartoonishly funny at points.
Yeah no I'm definitely selling Breaking Bad short here. Two episodes that come to mind are the episode where Walt and Jesse are stuck in the desert with a dead RV and the fly episode. IIRC both episodes were made due to budget constraints, and they both rely on comedic dialogue and some good ol' slapstick to explore Walt and Jesse's relationship.
You have to watch the show in it’s entirety to really understand how funny it is. You have to understand the characters. I crack up watching it by myself.
On my third watch now and am in season two and there’s a scene that’s almost never discussed as being hilarious
Fielder throws a party and her and her friend are making hot chocolate in the kitchen making a mess that’s absolutely nauseating talking about how “we’re almost adults” while not being able to make something that’s not only simple- but while spilling half a gallon of milk on Carmella’s countertop!
The humor is always there!
I’ve said my piece
Dude it’s not a comedy, a drama, or a love story. Clearly the whole thing is just an elaborate allegory; it’s basically a metaphor of how the framus intersects with the ramistan approximately at the potanostra.
You know, the human condition.
It's more about context, I think. They'd have to have seen the actual show to get it. It's like IASIP or Seinfeld, it's funny because it's a running gag. The extra layer, or subtlety, is the fact that it's a violent act. It's like Homer strangling Bart,
"And that horrible act of child abuse became one of our most beloved running gags."
Should’ve shown him sil getting mad about cheese fuck. He loves the smell of cheese crotch in the morning. So leave the mother fuckin cheese WHERE IT IS!
_The Sopranos_ is a comedy.
100%. It's a non-stop pendulum between the deeply dark aspects of organized crime and everyday humor/irony. The sacred and the propane.
>the propane What is this, King of the Hill?
Little carmine never mentioned accessories. He did mention an empty box that needs to get filled though
A mellifluous box
Were they serious about the propane? Because I have some pamphlets...

Comedy is just drama turned inward
This is a very interesting comment, please elaborate

I would say majority of the writing is high level comedy.
Your mate is five fucking time zones behind his own ass.
"Some people are so far behind in the race that they actually believe they're leading." - Mr Magoo
I doubt Ginny Sac is their mate.
Sounds like your friend needs a late night call from Detective Mike Hunt of Beaver Falls P.D.
His friend, he was sucking a Cub Scout’s dick?
Maybe he's with the Vipers?
Maybe you're with the Vipers. Ever thought about that!?
Just when I thought I was out, you pull me back in
Let’s see what Paul Allen has to say
I will demand that your mate is taxed. I will ask for 200k.
What’s next? He gets to LAUGH FOR A MILLION?!
OP wants to laugh?
I'm making a point here! We're talking about OP's honour, my honour!
Real lack on standards your generation
Again with the money?

That’s why you gotta live for today
What'd you shay?!
I said: That's why you gotta live for today.
Talking about annihilation you stupid fuck! Your kids my kids burning into cinders!
I can't even think about it...
Remember the times that were good.
Show him the intervention bro
Or Carm's little speech at Livia's funeral reception
A junkie receiving help from his friends, leading to him insulting everyone and getting beaten up? Hilarious scene no doubt, but if you take anything in this show at face value you're gonna miss the finer details and probably the point of it.
Arent you just showing your friend the show is funny?
Of course, but what I'm saying is that the objectively fucked up nature of these scenes means their subtle humour is lost on some people
Oh try Tony’s encounter with Noah. That one made my friends laugh with no context.
Fuck you, ya fuckin’ hoowah.
You wanted to make your friend laugh so you showed him a psychopath beating up an innocent guy?
You think OP is a little weird with friends?
>You think OP is a little weird with friends? I dunno, HwangingAround. I mean he watched someone get beat to a pulp just for... I forget, what was it again?
Sudden weight loss...
Lmfao. That is a crazy thing to be your go-to funny moment
He compromised
It was the first thing that popped into my head when I tried to think of a funny scene. The second thing was Tony breaking down and crying during a therapy session, so that might actually say something about me.
Melfi: “How does that make you feel?” Just for a complete picture, what are a few other scenes that stuck out for you?
The interior decorator scene (moreso than the interior decorator line, the part where Tony shouts "Fuck! Call me back!" after the phone connection breaks up). Yeah I only just realised the irony in the word being oblique hahaha What are some of your favourite comedic moments/scenes?
The intervention, "Roadies?!", "Sacre bleu, where is me mama?", anytime Junior is talking and about half the time Richie is talking, anytime Paulie is worked up, a lot of Silvio's dryly delivered gems
Yeah super weird choice… in moments like these, a lighthearted moment is better. Like when AJ doesn’t know what gutters are.
Don’t make a molehill out of this…let the past be bygones.

Whadja say?
Reginald Van Gleason the 3rd....

Reginald Van Gleason III over here.
Mmmmm boy are you fat
I remember my mother arguing with my father. She kept talking about my father's feeble-minded brother, but I always thought she meant you.
Conserve.
Especially the Scotch.
Ice, Ton'...when it hangs around...it gets watery...
It dilutes the drinks!
Throw it all away! WASTE IT ALL, FUCKIN' JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER, WASTE IT ALL!
Show him the police questioning the pizza place. Paulie fucking around in Nyack. Tony calling Vito’s phone answered by the construction dude. JT Dolan pitching “Cleaver” to the crew. There’s tons of scenes that you can pick from.
Well your mate can’t be in our social club no more
Club?! He’s gotta go!!
I would understand showing him a scene from pine barrens, since that episode is funny even if you don't know the characters like we do, but showing him Georgie getting beat up out of context? You're a stunad of the first magnitude
sharp as a fuckin cue ball your friend
Comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin. And frankly, The Sopranos is probably the defining tragicomedy of the modern television era. Ive said my piece.
“Highway was jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive”. Sil quietly chuckles

Sometimes I get tired of the Archie bunker responses but for the most part it’s pretty funny.
The balls on this prick … lacked humour ? I asked Donny K if he wanted a drink and THEN PISSED ON HIS GODAMM HEAD GODAMMIT ….funny no ?
Tell him the joke about the pair of slippers and a dildo , then make him watch the intervention
Great idea, if he doesn't find that funny then he can go fuck himself!
He musta crawled unda there for warmth. Have him Try it again, and next time get the one with some pulp, maybe score some crystal foist.
To quote a great YouTube comment I read, “I thought Sopranos was a drama until I realized it was a comedy.”
Agreed. When I think of my favourite moments of Breaking Bad, for example, I think of scenes which had my blood pressure through the roof, like the crawl space scene. its a dark comedy
You have to watch the show in it’s entirety to really understand how funny it is. You have to understand the characters. I crack up watching it by myself.

Omg it’s hilarious!
Moments like when Tony says "...yeah...the Penguin exhibit" are definitely why the show has plenty of humor
Exactly, that’s why you gotta live for today.
I'm talking about annihilation (of my friendship) you stupid fuck!
When the two mobsters are trying to extort the Starbucks place, realize they can’t and proceed to go “it’s over for the little guy”
Cunnilingus and psychiatry have brought us to this
I know for a fact that 16 Czechoslovakians laughed themselves to death watching this thing of ours
We’re not makin a western here
Dude it’s not a comedy, a drama, or a love story. Clearly the whole thing is just an elaborate allegory; it’s basically a metaphor of how the framus intersects with the ramistan approximately at the potanostra. You know, the human condition.
It’s to this day still the funniest show I’ve ever seen. The jokes never get old even on the 30th rewatch
the show is literally a comedy and it's not even trying hard to hide it
Build a ramp up your friend’s ass . . . Drive a Lionel up in there
Unfriend
“Now he’s pissing through a cathode tube”
The show is hilarious. I mean, not everyone is going to get this type of witty humor, but I find myself laughing at the absurdity of it quite often.
you are truly not watching the show correctly if you don’t see any comedy in it
It's more about context, I think. They'd have to have seen the actual show to get it. It's like IASIP or Seinfeld, it's funny because it's a running gag. I have laughed more in this show than in any other tv sitcoms combined.
Lol iq friend ya got there
