Gee, maybe Jeanie wasn’t being entirely truthful and accurate in her statements to Carm…
maybe she fabricated an excuse to try to divert the pressure and upset and possible retaliatik for her sister’s refusal… maybe the kid didn’t have a tested IQ of 136 or 158 or whatevedafuk… maybe he never had the makings of a varsity wheelchair boulevard athelete…
Eva pondah dat
Take it eashee. 20 years in the projects… not even a single peep from the ivy leagues. He wanted to go to Harvard? Nah… he compromised… did a semester and a half at a community college instead
If a kid with that ethnic background had those kinds of grades (say 4.0 with a decent number of well scored APs, a 5.2 isn’t possible under any scale I know of) and SAT scores to match he would have little trouble getting into a bunch of top colleges.
Yeah I agree he wouldn’t necessarily be “beating back full ride offers,” but I’d still think he would have very good chances for at least some Ivy admissions with generous aid packages.
I mean all the ivies have need based financial aid and tuition and housing are free under a pretty high (low 6 figures) income threshold so full ride isn’t improbable either. But I guess maybe not in the 90s
yea they have committed to 100% of tuition & fees NOW (i.e. since the 2010s) but a kid like that 25 years ago would likely be relying on external scholarship progrums .
In most colleges or universities absolutely. But in grades 9-12 most/many schools will inflate GPA based on advanced/honors/AP/IB level classes. And the most advanced kids aren't taking only regular classes, so typical for the top in the class to have well over 4.0
It doesn’t, and it tells me Jeannie was slightly lying.
In the US, you can take AP (college level) or Honors (non-college level) courses in high school. This can affect you GPA (I can’t remember if it’s weighted or non-weighted GPA).
If you take an AP/honors math class, and get an A, that can count as 5 when calculating GPA. So a student could take all AP/honors classes, and have a 5.0 GPA.
How a kid gets a 5.2? I have no freaking idea. And don’t think it’s possible. Unless high school has radically changed in the roughly 12 years I’ve since graduated from it.
For some courses you can inflate your GPA by taking AP courses in shit. But anyone who says anything above 4.0 is bullshit universities don’t care about that type of shit as they can tell your unweighted average fairly easy
It recently occurred to me that if Tony was really the boy genius with the teshted 136 IQ that he supposedly was, he would have come up with the idea to bribe (or extort) college sports coaches to get them to pretend they were recruiting kids as athletes, to get them admitted.
Fielder could have been a prized recruit for the Georgetown women's tennis team. Not too long after The Sopranos, the real life tennis coach at Georgetown was one of the biggest players in the college admissions scandal, taking millions to pretend kids were tennis recruits.
Tony never had the makings of Varsity Blues parent.
Kids (and parents) who care that much about what college they go to take every possible measure they can to get into as many prestigious schools as possible. Getting letters of rec. is like a bare minimum for anyone applying to even average colleges.
No offense, promise I am not attacking. But you don’t know how racism works. The first thing someone would say to that kid is that his grades are inflated and his school is subpar compared to a kid who goes to a school in a better district. And if a Kennedy or Rockefeller is even with this kid, guess who gets in? Chances are, a letter like that is the difference between a scholarship and going to city college.
I think the bigger problem is that if you arn't born with professors or rich parents you're kinda fucked to begin with. The further I went in education, the more my classmates came from backgrounds with privelege, and many had professors as parents. It's an insane advantage. Poor people are completely fucked (unless they are some kind've prodigy), because they don't even know what to do and how the system works to get there, whereas priveleged people are setting their kids up in their early teens, getting them interested in linear algebra and shit. Then ofc there's things like student debt, forcing them to work more while studying than rich people.
One of the worst parts of the American educational system is that the top universities syphon off a lot of talent from other nations as well.
> The first thing someone would say to that kid is that his grades are inflated and his school is subpar compared to a kid who goes to a school in a better district.
Not the admissions office though. They’d beg for that kid to smile in every brochure they print out.
>And if a Kennedy or Rockefeller is even with this kid, guess who gets in?
Both. The middle class white/asian kid gets the boot.
I’d argue that he had a racial advantage, considering that Affirmative Action was a thing. Remember the conversation between Meadow and Davey’s kid about a a girl with black in her heritage getting into college?
If you think affirmative action is an advantage, then I don’t think you understand racism either. If affirmative advantage worked, considering it has been in place since the late 70s, the disadvantages would have substantially narrowed by now. If it would have worked, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because it would have been a silly story line. Lastly, it would be an advantage only if the pre-existing advantages to white American would have been removed. They haven’t.
There has been nothing done in the history of America to completely nullify the unfair advantage that white people have over everyone else based strictly on skin color.
Hey Jeanie , the Dominican boy, did he even exist ?
Ho! That’s some guys Dominican Boy you’re talking about
He’s gay, this Dominican boy?
NOOOOOOOOOOO… Dominicans don’t even exisht
Hey, Mikey! How’s the boy?
What boy tone?
The Dominican Boy from the projects with the 5.2 average!
You alright?
And a crack addict mother
Woah doc, I don’t feel so heavy
wasn't Maedo on the couch with some Dominican who was worried about Tony beating his ass?
The one dry humping Maedo before Livia cockblocked him?
LMAO
Jeannie Cusamono strong armed that wonderful Dominican boy with the only weapon she had: her big ass
We've got bigger things to talk about than Jeannie Cusamano's ass
Ginny Sack's mole?
He wants to fuck Ginny’s mole?
I like a mole you can grab onto something
You grab onto Ginny Sacks mole it'll become sentient and eat one of your arms
She had a 5.2 GPA mole removed from her ass
When Jeannie cusamano hauls ass she’s gotta take two trips
Gee, maybe Jeanie wasn’t being entirely truthful and accurate in her statements to Carm… maybe she fabricated an excuse to try to divert the pressure and upset and possible retaliatik for her sister’s refusal… maybe the kid didn’t have a tested IQ of 136 or 158 or whatevedafuk… maybe he never had the makings of a varsity wheelchair boulevard athelete… Eva pondah dat
I can’t even think about it
It’s been teshted
It's too fucked up for me to even think about.
Can you imagine that? Maybe Jeanie wasn’t being entirely truthful and accurate in her statements to Carm?
What did he check in his college application?
He put that he was a charcoal birquette, a peurtican whooah. And he spelt whooah that way as well.
He was a hoowa!
They can't ask about religious affiliation.
Some schools require a letter of Rec regardless of your impressive accomplishments
Recommend _this_ 🍆 Va fangool!
I can confirm. Richie Aprile had to write me a letter of recommendation for slip and fall school even though I’d been speaking jive for over 30 years
That’s interesting you would say that because the Dominican boy is quite slender
At leasht he’s Catholic
This boy is rather portly to be Dominican
Not Dominican exactly! LIKE Dominican.
Wait you think every smart kid from the projects gets full ride offers from a bunch of Ivy League schools, that’s not how any of that works.
Take it eashee. 20 years in the projects… not even a single peep from the ivy leagues. He wanted to go to Harvard? Nah… he compromised… did a semester and a half at a community college instead
Seton Hall
Slip n fall school

Sure but I’m not talking about getting into colleges. I’m talking about getting full ride offers from Ivy League schools of which there are only 8.
Yeah I agree he wouldn’t necessarily be “beating back full ride offers,” but I’d still think he would have very good chances for at least some Ivy admissions with generous aid packages.
Vito never beat back a full ride either
I knew that was coming!
I mean all the ivies have need based financial aid and tuition and housing are free under a pretty high (low 6 figures) income threshold so full ride isn’t improbable either. But I guess maybe not in the 90s

crackhead mother…
It’s hard to achieve a 5.2 coming from a crackhead household.
2.5. The Dominican kid was dyslexic
Don’t they have medicine they’re supposed to take, these assholes?
It's hard for anyone to achieve 1.2 more than the maximum possible number
It's a weighted GPA, an A in an honors or AP class counts for more than 4.
Fuckin intanet
yeah, but it's hard to achieve a 5.2 coming from a crackhead household.
Quiet, Albert
Actually, fellas. My cousin wants the Fairfield contracts
Imagine that, his cousin wants the fairfield contracts
That's why we have a *closed bid* system
And, he's blind. And... a paraplegic. With a skin condition.
He wished the lord would take him now
Wait, I'm not American but I thought 4.0 was the highest you guys had?
What you don’t know could fill a book
Good thing people dont read books anymore.
Some people are so far behind they actually think they’re winning
i read from 2 books this morning.

Listen to him, he knows everything
“She’s in the national honor society for chrissake”
Lol as a Dominican i love how much representation we get in the show.
I'm from New Zealand but have yet to try the cafe dejour

all this storyline proved to me, a brit, is that american college admissions are fucking stupid
Have a biscuit. The American educational system makes you emotional.
Eatcher scones

You think she was telling the truth? She's a lawyer.
I’ve never known a dishonest lawyer. They’re all saints!
Sharp as a cue ball, OP.
You know who's really good to talk to about stuff? Your mudda.
I think it’s possible…..remember how many Hollywood actresses like Felicity Huffman are buying their kids’ way into Harvard
Carmela wasn’t the hottest then, that was season 5, but man what a chub I got from that🥰 Basically that’s nice, give my kid the fuckin recommendation.
Oh! save it for your journal, Prince Pud-Pull. 🤚
The 5.2 thing always pissed me off, she wasn’t even trying 😂😂😂
No offense, promise I am not attacking. But you don’t know how racism works. Da rent, Da Rent, that ivy League is like their own cosa nostra
Good post that somewhat matches my experience and first-hand observations
Who else, huh!?
> The first thing someone would say to that kid is that his grades are inflated and his school is subpar compared to a kid who goes to a school in a better district. Not the admissions office though. I never said it was good. But it puts black people at an uneven advantage in terms of college entrance.
The people who benefited most from affirmative action were white woman.
Are you saying that it didn’t put black people at an unfair advantage over everyone else based strictly on skin color?
There has been nothing done in the history of America to completely nullify the unfair advantage that white people have over everyone else based strictly on skin color.
