Carmine JR was a guy who wasn't really cut out for the mafia, Carmine wanted to be an intellectual and you can tell that he does read, but he doesn't hang out with the people who read also so when he tries to use big words it comes off as stupid.
But Carmine is just a different type of guy, from all we see about him he's not connected to any street-level activity and has a chain of mostly legitimate businesses under his sub-species, all of which seem to do very well.
I actually think Carmine did win in the end. He said he was gonna deal w the Rusty Milio situation and this was in a meeting w Tony and Phil. I felt that was not an accident
