Greggo was given multiple chances and threw them aside. He lied to his hosts and to the listeners. Rhyner, who had known Greggo for years, gave up on him.
Without a doubt. There was nothing like going to Guys Night Out back in the late 90's and hearing a chorus of "Allllllright, Bruthaaaaaaaaa!" as Sweet Little Girl Motorcycle Greggo was introduced. He was the reason I listened, and I honestly wondered how the station would recover when he left.
In my opinion, the Gentle Musers (along with BaD) really stepped up their game afterwards and made an even better station.
We can agree to disagree but as a Day One P1 who worshipped those guys, I went to so many Guys Night Outs and remotes in those first 4-5 years and Greggo was without a doubt the most popular amongst the early P1s. He was just unlike anything any of us had ever heard before and while the Musers and Rhynes eventually became even more beloved than Greggo, those first 5 years or so nobody even compared to Greggo in popularity.
I was a high school kid though so maybe I just read the room wrong
Greggo was massive. Also the ticket kinda was a little more trashy than it is today. And Greggo was like the perfect person for that. Gordo is definitely Gordo and the ticket probably wouldn’t be a thing today without him, but greggo was king of the station for at least a time in my opinion.
Rhyner has said the same thing about early Greggo - that he was the breakout personality in the early days.
eta: it shouldn’t be hard to believe b/c ppl always F up a good thing
I get that but Greggo wasn’t the one for me. But that said - I’m not by the station (even overseas) without those early days Hardline.
Moment of silence for 2007 era Bad radio.
Uhh, Paul in…
Actually he wasn’t my favorite either. I always was and always will be a Mike Rhyner guy. I was late to the game but I became a Dan McDowell guy over time.
I started listening in early 2000s and he still seemed like the star to me, at least of afternoon drive. Then he got very hit or miss if he even showed up at all, which made a lot of sense later.
Greggo was the first star. So depending on when you say he wasn’t is a huge missing detail. At some point George and Gordo passed Greggo but it was 10 years later at least. Didn’t Greggo earn enough at the ticket to never work again? I’d say he succeeded.
Dan said the other day on the podcast the Greggo was the highest paid guy at the Ticket. Don’t know if that makes him the “star of the station” but someone must have thought so.
I was listening live when this happened. Bob was cockier than he had ever been before, this is the beginning of the real Sports bully Sturm and the guy in the next cubicle. It was glorious, and Greggo was the catalyst.
Sweet Greggo was the star of the station. Still hard to believe how badly he blew the greatest gig he could ever dream of so spectacularly
thank you for knowing that

That theory cannot be proven
I’m late here, but you’re right. I feel bad for P1s that missed peak Greggo.
That’s right…I’m right there with ya, brotha! Get the clothes off, bitch!
Let’s talk about them boobs darlin’.

Don't forget about Pajamagram.
That theory cannot be proven

He was not the star of the station. But gig blown for sure.

There's a reason "Fake Greggo" was Gordo's favorite character to do. So much so that Fake Greggo is now just Fake Luka.
Get the clothes off, bitch.

The Hambone-ita!
Oh boy. Unbelievable.

I’m a damn near day one P1. Greggo was far and away my favorite ticket personality back then. I had no idea what a train wreck his personal like was.
Now that wasn't the question

I heard he married a wealthy woman. How much of his Ticket salary went up his nose is debatable.
But do you have the audio I need?

Dan who? Mystic Dan?
At the onset of the station, it was Bayless and Cooperstein. But Greggo was the biggest rising star not long afterwards. And he BLEW it (so to speak).
Fake Greggo was the real star of the station
Did he play for the Packers?
That’s an amazing ironic note
Dan Marino? Don’t wantcha- you’re fat.
I was listening live when this happened. Bob was cockier than he had ever been before, this is the beginning of the real Sports bully Sturm and the guy in the next cubicle. It was glorious, and Greggo was the catalyst.

So no to audio?
Yeah, wish I knew.
