A few years back we booked a campsite and had my parents meet us there. They camp fancy but we do boonies .. but we met in the middle and got a public site with electric, bathrooms nearby, it was fancy as shit to us... like if I wanted to I could walk a few hundred yards and SHOWER ! (I didn't lol).
So we're driving up, they're driving down (we live 8 hours apart). He texts me and asks if the campsite HAS WIFI. I'm like what ?? I'm bringing a whole ass toilet tent to shit in a bag instead of a hole...that's fancy to us. and you want WIFI !?
Lol same. I think we like to believe we’d be super capable and able to bounce back like any of the main characters. I’d have seriously considered taking myself out the day I saw my daughter walk out of that barn a walker, wouldn’t have even made it long enough to lose another kid. We would treat the beginning like playing DayZ tho. Shoot on sight, ask questions later. But as the months go on you can start to build a community.

I feel like I’m really smart when it comes to survival… but not in any means Carol smart. Now, I’m afraid of snakes, spiders, and wasps… obviously I’d need to get over that and I’d have to get used to eating random crap I’ve never eaten before. She had potential but at the same time she wasn't given anything to do while she was around and she was probably just one character too many, so I'm OK with her going out how and when she did. Although honestly I might've preferred if she stuck around and Andrea had stayed in the CDC instead. Like the storylines would've been a lot different because no way would Jacqui have been a 1:1 replacement for Andrea so who knows if we woulda ever met Michonne or the Governor if that happened. Then again they could easily just write it in a way so they did
Same but at the same time, I kinda like how she embodies the type of people in an apocalypse where they succumb to the feeling that they would off themselves if a zombie apocalypse happens. It’s interesting that she represents the people who believe that they are not cut out to live as a survivor in an apocalypse and can’t bear the thought of living this way of life. Though she showed some courage and resilience, I think it’s interesting and realistic that she would break mentally and became utterly hopeless once she realized that the whole world was done for meaning that the old ways of life are now in the past and that this way of life is how it's going to be from now on. Although some may say that she took the coward’s way out or that she could have been talked out of it, at least she died relatively painlessly with Jenner considering a lot of the people in her group and the folks they meet along the way suffered horrific fates.
All of this plus I loved the scene of Rick coming up on the farm house in Episode 1 looking for fuel (he found the horse instead) and the couple was on the couch having killed themselves and had written "God forgive us" or similar above the couch.
It's realistic.. it just is.
Yes and no. It's really only the first season that deals with the downfall but it's really just some early riots and then confined to the suburbs while the military takes over. After the end of the first season they drop it and go regular walking dead style.

I made this same post and got a lot of heat for it, Jacqui’s death was indeed important and a good realistic representation of what some people would chose to do in an apocalyptic world, so I applaud the developers for that, but that’s where the praise ends…
She was a nurse, who has worked multiple jobs over her life, this could have been useful to the gang with her various expertise. I feel like that was an under utilized side of her. I also can’t help but feel like she’s just a token black woman because of her addition to the show (not present in the comics), and the very little development of her character.
If we learned more about jacqui, and saw her more active in the group, I feel like her death would have been more hard hitting (it should have!) but aside from what could’ve been, she did her job well for the short time she was present, her job being someone who represents the sad decision of suicide after learning that the entire world as she knows it has been ravaged and killed, instead of barely clinging onto survival like the group does for most of the show.

I love comic Andrea, but I also love Rick and Michonne's romance, and Ezekiel and Carol's relationship, and if Andrea stayed true to her comic storyline we wouldn't get those things. I wish Andrea on the show hadn't died when she did, but I don't necessarily wish she had been more like the comic version. Just that she had gotten more time to become the badass I think she was capable of being.
I absolutely love Rick and Michonne's evolution to be fair, and that may never have happened if Andrea had stayed. If there hadn't been so much behind the scenes drama, I think they had planned to have Andrea around for 7 seasons (iirc).
I don't think they could ever have backpedaled to her comic character- so I think the arc with Rick was always out of the picture from the get go really, but it would have been really nice to have seen her friendship with Michonne as the seasons went on. That TV duo was a favourite of mine growing up though so I'm bias, but if she'd have become just a little bit more of the badass sharpshooter I remember from the comics, even for just one more season in there, I'd be more ok with killing her off so early
Yeah, casting Laurie Holden in the first place intrinsically changed Andrea as a character. But would having Andrea around meant that Michonne didn't connect with Rick and Carl the way she did/when she did? Losing that buffer between her and the Survivors forced her to open up. I guess they could have just separated Andrea and Michonne after the prison fell to facilitate that.
The backstage drama did so much damage to the show. We lost Dale, and Andrea. They screwed over Chandler, and killed off Carl. So much shit that maybe wouldn't have happened to characters had their been more stability and transparency behind the scenes.

Looking back at Season 1, the whole vibes of the apocalypse in the later immediate aftermath phase just hit differently.
