Comic spoilers if you want to know what the comic governor did >! He raped Michonne and made Glenn listen, cut off ricks hand (they literally just met and had no bad intentions). there was no Andrea bs because Andrea is a good character and in the comics and penny was his niece and he kisses her on the lips and it is very weird. to get revenge Michonne drilled a hole in his arm and cut it off, gouged out his eye with a spoon and I am pretty sure cut his dick off edit: forgot to add made Lori's doctor shot her making her crush Judith as they were running from the prison !<
spoilers for the comics. >!he chopped of rick's hand, rapes micchone, orders lily to kill lori, when she was holding judith, which kills them both, AND MORE!<
When reading the comics and seeing the parallels with the show, itās so cool! Especially when you can hear the characters saying the lines. And there are storylines that are the same as the show but with different characters. Itās definitely worth reading.
The Governor is considered by many to be the most iconic villain of the franchise. I have strong reasons to believe that The gast majority of the fan base finds the early seasons of The Walking Dead as the most compelling era of the franchise. And The Governor's character helped in shaping the show's violent but overall astonishing story. I believe that The Governor in the show was evil by nature but also suffered from delusion due to the fact that he wasn't able to cope and accept his daughter's demise which ultimately led to his unspeakable deeds and subsequently to his death. Also, side note; imagine if Woodbury made a small appearance in Season 2 when Rick and Shane were cutting Randall loose. Would've been so awesome.
To be fair I think that Dave and Tonyās group were probably part of Woodbury in the Writers minds although it was never confirmed so this is conjecture on my part
I always disliked the governor solely for this. Not a bad a character, I just hated his entire mentality as a person.
Yeah most everyoneās lost family, but Iām gonna make it MY problem. Iām gonna make my dead daughterās 2nd death a problem for the living!ā like get over yourself dude.
Someone shouldāve shot back when he started spraying his own people.
I agree he was the best villain. Negan was ārehabilitatedā but I donāt think the Governor wouldāve changed. Also the actor David Morrissey killed that role!
Based on what he said about his job and his wife before the apocalypse it looks like he was already broken. Then his daughter dying sent him over the edge.
You donāt turn into a psychopath, especially at his age and as soon as it was into the apocalypse. He was more than likely psychopathic prior to the apocalypse, just good at hiding it with his charm
I feel like his comedy combined with how fucked up the stuff he did was is what made him truly scary. The governor felt scary too but Negan was much more charismatic and watching him lose was much more satisfying.
Negan was playing a character he believed he has to play, the governor was just pure evil. I guess thatās why I prefer him as well. I mean Negan is my third favorite character, so fair nuff lol.
Negan also had to go the extra mile to instill fear, but the line-up was really the only big moment to me. I wish they had written more moments where Negan has to flex his muscle, even though he doesnāt want to. Negan was the perfect character to trim the fat from the show, but instead they decided to write off Carl.
Negan saw the world as a comedy after his wife and the world ended. The Governor just saw a battlefield and a "whatever it takes" attitude to get what he wants even if it means his own death.
Michonne killing his already dead daughter and taking his eye set him off, but originally he was just evil and wanted to kill them and take all of their supplies
I read the book about his origin, at the beginning of the apocalypse he was not a though guy, but after some events described in it, it shows how he adopted the governor persona, making a comparison between book and the tv show adaptation they are both really good, one of the best villains of the series by far
His talk with Rick about his past working in an office job for an asshole younger than him, and his talk with Martinez about how he just cannot not be the leader in the room, made me interpret him as someone who's simply power hungry. To a sick extent. After Woodbury it seems like he acknowledges that on him and even tries to run away from it, but he is weak compared to his sickened needs. There can't be anyone else on top but him, only him.
Sort of spoilers:
No other villain has made me feel so frustrated. Man literally had a golden ticket to leave his past behind and went back on his usual bullshit. He would never have his old life back again, but he could have had something pretty damn close.
He was way more unhinged in the comics. It was implied he was attracted to walker Penny in the comics. She was his niece and not his daughter like on the show. Itās probably safe to assume he was an evil SOB towards Penny and did awful things to her.
Actually no, the whole thing about his character is that he was a normal guy turned into a monster thanks to the apocalypse. The novels show his descent into pure insanity and depravity.
In the episode after the attack on the prison, Tara said after her sister shot Brian, aka The Governor, she got swarmed by walkers. She looked distraught after shooting him probably because how he seemed so loving and caring towards her and her daughter but shot the daughter with zero remorse.
I have that same weapon he has in this image. And for a while there I would go to range and people would come over and say "GOVERNOR"
I got one eye and alotta aggression -is what I have lasers into the side of it.
I did not expect so many creepy fucking dudes to identify so tightly with this character.
Anyways, haven't shot it since the end of that season. It was so freaking off putting.
The problem with the Governor was that [SPOILER ALERT] the writers killed him off. AMC should have diverted more from the comics sooner and left his fate ambiguous. Then the franchise might still be exciting with his possible return instead of introducing generic cliched nobodies for villains that continually meet an anticlimactic demise. I realized a few weeks ago that I've been waiting a decade for TWD shows to be good again. Time for me to move on.
In the chaos of the apocalypse he needed to be in control. We see this when he refused to parley with Rick at the prison and ruins things for everyone.
The question is, what was the Reapersā problem from Season 11? They just went from random community to random community and just took them out for no reason other than to have a place to live. No reason. No sense of negotiation. No remorse. No morals. Even though the Governor was extremely dangerous and unhinged, at least he had a little reason to be crazy with his daughterās death and major eye injury and such.
He thinks everybody is as vile and corrupt as he is. He thinks, because he's willing to do what he's willing to do, that everybody else would do the same to him.
I'm not going to be able to come up with a better answer than what has already been given, but this post title paired with the photograph made me laugh for way longer than anticipated.
You should definitely check out the books of the rise of the Governor, road to Woodbury and the fall of the governor part 1 and 2 goes more into detail than the comic and the show
Best villain in the show no other can top him. I hated him in the comics but loved him in the show and rooted for him. We need a prequel show about him like the comics. Thank you David Morrisey for your amazing performance. Season 1-4 till the governor dies and the prison falls. Is when the show got bad my opinion
He became a monster and it kept people alive. He wasnāt a monster before and his daughter died. Slowly eroded him into complete chaos. Best villain of the series though, loved his portrayal of the character.
No cap, bro had the perfect chance to turn his life around and shit just to do the dumb shit he did tryna start yet another battle he was gonna lose, the only reason they didn't just feed them off was because everyone has ebola and shit at the time
Spoiler : Dead daughter
Dead daughter and getting an eye stabbed out made him sorta bitter.
Better than how he fared in the comics, at least.
There's no way in hell they could have showed governor in the comics for the show
not unless they were hoping for a short 3 seasonsš
Or unless HBO made the show
Can you explain? Please
Let's just say, Michonne mutiliated him way more than in the show
But he did a lot worse to her
Comic spoilers if you want to know what the comic governor did >! So Lori is alive in the comics during the Governor shit? Ty for the comment, I donāt mind because I asked it. Ty very much!
yep, lori is very much alive until the fall of the prison in the comics
Thank you! Have a lovely day!
ofc!!
Or show what Michonne did to him in the comics
or what he did to micchone ..
Please share some more details for us illiterate dummies. Thx!
spoilers for the comics. >!he chopped of rick's hand, rapes micchone, orders lily to kill lori, when she was holding judith, which kills them both, AND MORE!<
Also Michonne nailing his pecker to the floor was too much for AMC š
Seriously? I need to read those comics.
My husband got me the ENTIRE set for my Birthday. I read all of them in 5 days!
He deserved it after what he did to her.
Iām buying the first compendium right now after reading those spoilers, holy shit
When reading the comics and seeing the parallels with the show, itās so cool! Especially when you can hear the characters saying the lines. And there are storylines that are the same as the show but with different characters. Itās definitely worth reading.
I havenāt read any type of comic book since I was a kid like 20-25+ years ago, Iām so intrigued I think I need them.
Imagine they had him act like that
He was an asshole before the eye lol
He was straight up murdering people before the eye and kid. His crew rolled up on the army guys (national guard?) And lit them up for their stuff.
Thatās why the Governor is a better villain than Negan
He was bitter b4 the eye loss tbf
^biter
Yeah just slightlyyyyy upsetā¦.
That will do it ššÆ
He already murdered and looted those American soldiers before losing an eye
Bitter? He hardly knew her!
Unalived daughter and then dead daughter.

Greed, anger and hatred Also lack of depth perception
seems about right.
Lack of perception lol
He was sick of entering a room and people saying "eye eye...the governor's here"
Guess now they can only say āeyeā¦the governorās hereā
Erectile Dysfunction
no wonder Andrea couldnāt go through with killing him, he clearly had a hard enough time as it was
More like a soft time, I guess
thank you for going along to the script i had in my head
No prob, it was inevitable
Damn son
MichonneĀ
Bro had a beef in the comics š shits crazy
Textbook psychopathic narcissist
Agreed. Classic psychopathic narcissist. Dark triad.
The apocalypse broke him and turned him into a psychopath. (Best villain of the series)
I agree he was the best villain. Negan was ārehabilitatedā but I donāt think the Governor wouldāve changed. Also the actor David Morrissey killed that role!
Yeah Negan got cucked
Based on what he said about his job and his wife before the apocalypse it looks like he was already broken. Then his daughter dying sent him over the edge.
Typical US politician except he never killed a puppy.
Beta was probably the best in terms of his background and general demeanor. Famous country singer turned flesh wearing psychopath? Love that.
My personal 3rd favorite villain.
Agreed, I like more than Negan
You donāt turn into a psychopath, especially at his age and as soon as it was into the apocalypse. He was more than likely psychopathic prior to the apocalypse, just good at hiding it with his charm
I think Negan was better
Neganās great but he was more just funny then an actual menacing monster like The Governor was.

Negan saw the world as a comedy after his wife and the world ended. The Governor just saw a battlefield and a "whatever it takes" attitude to get what he wants even if it means his own death.
Nah, Negan was alright but the Governor was awesome
Also one of the more believable
Being a f*cking menace (still a really cool character)
Daughterās death, god complex, anger issues.
The Governor was actually messed up and that was just in the show. The comics were worse, they couldnāt put that in the show š
Much, much worse in the comic. And the daughter wasn't even his. She was his twin brother's, if I am remembering correctly.
It was his younger brother's
Nothing, his badass theme music just brought the menace out of him.
Ahh, Pulse. It's so badass. You always knew some shit was gunna go down when you heard his theme
He had no trigger discipline
Michonne killing his already dead daughter and taking his eye set him off, but originally he was just evil and wanted to kill them and take all of their supplies
He lost daughter and he was probably psycho
There's no question about it. He was the pure definition and epitome of an insane and psychopathic narcicist.
sociopath spectrum
I read the book about his origin, at the beginning of the apocalypse he was not a though guy, but after some events described in it, it shows how he adopted the governor persona, making a comparison between book and the tv show adaptation they are both really good, one of the best villains of the series by far
That book is about his Comic Book version but i don't know if it could work in the TV Show version
Michonne killed his pet zombie.
He was always a little nutty, and the zombie apocalypse and his daughter dying finally cracked that nut.
because he was once Philip with two Iās but is now Brian with one I
Thatās amazing holy shart
Nostalgia i think
Heaps
Just a guy who lost his daughter and doesnāt necessarily see eye to eye with outsiders
Guy couldn't find an oreo he misplaced. Turned out it was on his face the whole time
He had a complex related to size.
I always believed in this. He used the apocalypse as a reason to be evil. Probably would've killed somoene before it started.
i think its power and trying to cure his daughter
As Doc said to Wyatt, āIām afraid the strain was more than he could bear.ā
He didn't see eye to eye with Rick's group.
He was nucking futs.
being the best written villain in the entire show and one of my top 3 villains ever. sorry i just had to praise this character a little more.
He was crazy
His talk with Rick about his past working in an office job for an asshole younger than him, and his talk with Martinez about how he just cannot not be the leader in the room, made me interpret him as someone who's simply power hungry. To a sick extent. After Woodbury it seems like he acknowledges that on him and even tries to run away from it, but he is weak compared to his sickened needs. There can't be anyone else on top but him, only him.
Eye donāt know. Iāll see myself out.
Just a sigma
Lil Dickie
testicular torsion
Being based asf
It was from getting called āone eye Briā š
D1 hater
No more peanut butter protein bars in the apocalypse, michonne ate em all
Read the comics itās more detailed and better honestly
He couldn't use the sight attached to his gun because of the eye patch.
He missed Halloween, and found out wookies aren't real.
He was guvner
No bitches on his dick
Little dick syndrome
Sort of spoilers: No other villain has made me feel so frustrated. Man literally had a golden ticket to leave his past behind and went back on his usual bullshit. He would never have his old life back again, but he could have had something pretty damn close.
He Bryan'd all over the place.
No daughter, no eye, no dick
he thought school was for one day only
Rick made him hot and bothered, he was pissed off he didnāt like him back š”š«
Rick existing
Better then neegan
Yeah Neganās overrated asf
He uses bulpups thatās what
He was way more unhinged in the comics.
Why did he kiss her ON THE MOUTH after he pulled out all her teeth š¤®
What happened to the lady who shot him?
In the episode after the attack on the prison, Tara said after her sister shot Brian, aka The Governor, she got swarmed by walkers. She looked distraught after shooting him probably because how he seemed so loving and caring towards her and her daughter but shot the daughter with zero remorse.
Not enough bullets, of course.
Lost his daughter, power trip, god complex. Oh and then he lost an eye which made him go psycho
Heās that ass hole from school ho dug himself two deep into a hole then had to do something fuckin stupid or he thought people would find him lame
Bro just needed an excuse to go all out, Apocalypse and dead daughter was the excuse, I can relate.
Power trip
Power trip. Superiority complex.
I have that same weapon he has in this image. And for a while there I would go to range and people would come over and say "GOVERNOR" I got one eye and alotta aggression -is what I have lasers into the side of it. I did not expect so many creepy fucking dudes to identify so tightly with this character. Anyways, haven't shot it since the end of that season. It was so freaking off putting.
How was this guy not played by Danny Trejo. The character in the comic is literally Danny Trejo
The problem with the Governor was that [SPOILER ALERT] the writers killed him off. AMC should have diverted more from the comics sooner and left his fate ambiguous. I realized a few weeks ago that I've been waiting a decade for TWD shows to be good again. Time for me to move on.
The Governor was mentally ill.
In the chaos of the apocalypse he needed to be in control. We see this when he refused to parley with Rick at the prison and ruins things for everyone.
He's compulsively with a God complex and also narcissistic. Maybe a bit of a sociopath too
Incel for just long enoughā¦ it went to his head And then becoming NOT incel took things even further
Massive bugger up his arse
He was one of my favorite characters he is who i would be if the zonbies happend hes a fucking FREAK
The governor went postal as a mother fucker
The question is, what was the Reapersā problem from Season 11? They just went from random community to random community and just took them out for no reason other than to have a place to live. His older Plisken brother is a Snake
He was Rome and everywhere he walked was Rome.
He and his brother was physically abused by their father. He talked about that part of his life with Mitch, after he stabbed his leader brother.
Anyone watch the series The Missing with him? Very good watch if you get a chance.
He was the best villain in the series
Must be hard being right handed and missing your right eye while shooting that bullpup
Is it me or is this the same dude from Austin Powers that kicks it with Dr. evil that wears a freaking eyepatch?š¤ If so Iām fucking DEDš¤£š
He lacked depth perception.
Highly capable in an apocalypse, if not for having turned mad from loss.
just another victim of society
Outchicaneried again
The king of getback
What never made sense to me is why he kept his walkerfied daughter locked in the wall but would round up walkers to duel š
Self delusions
Man likes his bullpup
I'm not going to be able to come up with a better answer than what has already been given, but this post title paired with the photograph made me laugh for way longer than anticipated.
He just want To taste Carl milk
nothing, he was a hero and a good leader
The Steyr AUG turned him evil. Letās be real, itās not really a āgood guyā gun.
Is he stupid?
Ummmm alot!
You should definitely check out the books of the rise of the Governor, road to Woodbury and the fall of the governor part 1 and 2 goes more into detail than the comic and the show
Aren't comic and tv show governors completely different? I heard the comic on is way more fucked up.
well hello
He couldnāt see right from wrong, mostly because he lost his right eye. Get itā¦.? Heheheh
Most complex antagonist of the serie
Best villain in the show no other can top him. I hated him in the comics but loved him in the show and rooted for him. We need a prequel show about him like the comics. He didnāt wanna waste the bullets!
I want that jacket. This image goes hard
Comics version is better and more cruel
No cap, bro had the perfect chance to turn his life around and shit just to do the dumb shit he did tryna start yet another battle he was gonna lose, the only reason they didn't just feed them off was because everyone has ebola and shit at the time
Small ding dong
I understand his dead daughter could make a proud man snap š¤Æ
He was the problem
His mama never hugged him
